Talks signing the desperate.

Talks signing the desperate.

Joe gets Twitters all the time asking why the Bucs don’t pick up (fill in a name) and, generally, the name is thrown out because the Twitterer has heard of said player.

Joe’s almost universal response is, in so many words, “Why is the guy unemployed?”

Bucs coach Dirk Koetter addressed this phenomenon today.

The subject was general discussion about Vincent Jackson’s injury and indirectly reinforced what Pat Kirwan of SiriusXM NFL Radio fame said week: guys pulled off the unemployment line in mid-October are not an answer.

“There aren’t many Pro Bowlers on the street,” Koetter said about signing players who can’t find work. “Guys that are on the street, they are on the street for a reason.”

This is why, Koetter explained, teams often sign guys this time of the year not so much for their talent but for their familiarity with a specific offense or defense, such as a history with a specific coach.

So, what you’re saying is, Devin Hester is a viable option?

  2. BigPoppaBuc Says:

We’re just going to have to gut it out. Shepard, Shorts, Dye, Humphries and Louis Murphy are going to have to get it done. If they can’t then our choices in the off season get much easier. I really liked V-Jax but we can finally rip the band-aid off and move on. I really think this time next year we’ll be singing licht’s praises. He should have plenty of cap to work with and another good draft.

  3. Blake_Bucsfan Says:

While I agree with the general premise of a player being unemployed for a reason, Jacquizz Rodgers was unemployed prior to the start of the 2016 season. And he’s worked out alright, granted, Quizz has a history with Koetter.
I don’t think it hurts to scout unemployed or hell even some cfl guys, I don’t hate Dontae Dye, but he’s no Adam humphries.

  4. Dewey Selmon Says:

I hope our kicker doesn’t get hurt. You just can’t sign a kicker off the street…

  5. tmaxcon Says:

none of these players who are hurt is a surprise. it should have never gotten to this point… you have to be realistic and realize that 22, 93, 83, stocker, mcodonald etcc… are part time players and depth should have been addressed prior to season. you can’t scramble on week five to fill multiple spots that you gambled on and lost… bucs gambled at dt, wr, rb, te and de with injury prone players none of this should be a surprise…

  6. Bucdup08 Says:

    Josh Gordon!!!!!

  7. Ben the Ga Buc Says:

Time to make some trades. It doesn’t have to be any high rounds. We gotta get some bodies in here, especially at WR.

  8. Blake_Bucsfan Says:

@bucup Josh Gordon is in rehab.

  9. Blake_Bucsfan Says:

Trade McCoy for De’Andre Hopkins. Lol xD

  10. Lamarcus Says:

In a bye week we was suppose to heal but it’s depressing bye week

  11. Kobe Faker Says:

Yikes, koetter the clown strikes again

Foot in mouth itis! Last week he said most of the injuryed will be ready. Shut up you wavering 2 faced newbie

Im getting seasick with all his inconsistent gibberish

  12. 813bucboi Says:

licht has to make a trade…..call up the steelers, colts, jets, redskins and Chicago….each team has a sorry back up with some talented wr depth….go after Sammy coats, donte moncrief, Brandon marshall, desean Jackson, pierre garcon, alson Jeffery….

the bears trade Brandon and a 7th round pick to the jets for their 5th…I know he said the jets would be his last team but marshall has been on record saying that he loves everything about jameis….plus money talks….GO BUCS!!!!

  13. 813bucboi Says:

    @blake…I would love that….hell i’ll take jalen strong….GO BUCS!!!!

  14. Capt. Blighe Says:

The problem is Jason Licht, anyone with a brain knew VJ wouldn’t last 6 weeks.
And did they sign anybody in Free Agency NO ! and we are way below the cap.
Do you think Josh Norman would help, NO JL didn’t even try.
Ritchie Incognito was begging for a team but we have the highest character 6-10 team in the league and he is beneath us. All Ritchie Incognito has done is become the second best guard in the league and model teammate.
But we sign Sweezy who had a back injury when we signed him.
But everybody on JBF says we have a great GM. WRONG You suck JL and I didn’t mention our crappy 2nd round kicker

  15. STLBucFan4Life Says:

you know who else has a history with Koetter, knows his offense, and is available… Roddy White. He can’t be any worse than Jackson has been playing with one wheel, can he??

  16. Capt. Blighe Says:

BTW Right now we are 6.6 million under the cap. Thats just for 2016.

  17. Stpetebucsfan Says:

    Capt Blighe

I root for the Bucs and for the Lightning. I been with the Bucs through the losses.

ONE thing would run me off in a New York minute. I’ll stop rooting the day the Bucs go for common filth like Incognito or Hardy.

You’d probably want us to sign Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi if he could play at a high level.

    Thanks but no thanks.

  18. tmaxcon Says:

    Stpetebucsfan

invognito has better character than the pay check thief McCoy or friends and family lovie smith

  19. tmaxcon Says:

at least incognito earns his pay

  20. Capt. Blighe Says:

I don’t want to be Impeccable Character 5-11 anymore.
We need Help and Incognito bullied a 300lb man. BOO HOO
    This is the pros.

Kobe faker is a 15 year old high school student. He mows my lawn every Saturday wearing either his Freeman or his Piscatelli jersey. He has a horrible acne condition hence his constant presence on this site….combating lonliness. Other than that a pretty good kid, he also has a helleva stamp collection.

    I can’t stop laughing…………………LOL

  22. Rojas Says:

Desean Jackson ? We could use a burner.

  23. DanTheBucsFan(Atlanta) Says:

    Mark the tape.
Another injury to a WR and we will be seeing Mr. Underwear Football (KB) on our team again.

  24. DanTheBucsFan(Atlanta) Says:

I’d go as far to say that you’ll see KB resigned long before we see the likes of Roddy White or other receivers you all keep throwing out there.

  25. Trubucfan22 Says:

Hopefully shorts and Murphy will be active in the near future. I like both of them to be honest. Either would make a good #2 opposite Evans, then we would still have the other one and Humo and Brate to run routes. A decent 5 receiver unit. Without those 2 the prospects are bleak and rather sad. I sure hope those boys are ready to go this sunday….

  26. nate12345 Says:

cowbooys been winning without dez bryant.. maybe hes available….

  27. godzilla13 Says:

Former Packer James Jones (6-1 208) is available? He is a great possession receiver and could fill in for VJAX. Check out his numbers from last year.
