McDougald Chosen For Center Stage By Koetter

Safety Bradley McDougald

Interesting dynamic going on inside the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ locker room.

Dirk Koetter seems to have settled on a method to motivate his team psychologically.

It started in training camp with messages to “Start Fast,” part of a graphic presentation that appeared on digital signage displayed to players. Guys would see their scheduled for the day on a TV screen, then Koetter’s impact message would roll-in — a constant loop.

Then it moved to “COMPETE” last week featuring Jacquizz Rodgers bursting through two Panthers defenders, and it was the opening screen on player tablets used for film study.

Now it’s McDougald staring the football into his hands on his interception against the 49ers. The message? “FOCUS”

Last year, Lovie Smith was dialed into a season-long message of “California Dreaming,” since that’s where the Super Bowl was played. And, of course, there was always Lovie’s infamous, “Real football starts in November.”

Thankfully, Koetter is more on point.

    I really like that method

  2. BigHogHaynes Says:

10 games to play with 6 games to win to show improvement over the last REGIME!!

  3. Getaclue Says:

I love this and I feel like the team is starting to buy in and believe

  4. tmaxcon Says:

the only thing dirtbag lovie was dialed into was stealing money for the Friends and Family retirement fund.

Dirk is not perfect and I believe he will get better but his attitude and demeanor is so refreshing.

    @bighogheinous

They already showed improvement when the Head Coach stayed awake during the scouting combine!!!! They already showed improvement winning 3 games in 7 tries when it took coach my scheme 18 tries!!!!! IT is so refreshing know that the “right” coaches are now in place!!!!! Just sit back and watch really coaching bigfraudheinous or be quite and watch “the folding illini”!!!!!!!

  6. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Big Hog lovie won 8 games in 2 years that sure is some fuzzy math you got going on there, lovie sucks as an HC and is burying himelf in Champagne….

  7. ToesOnTheLine!!! Says:

Smart move by Coach K…everyone likes an ‘atta boy for a job well done. I think a personalized message like coach is sending also comes across more “real recognizes real” to players vs. hot air cliche phrases.

  8. Erik w/ Clean Athletics 'The Kwon Alexander of Bucs Fans' Says:

I think Koetter will end up being the best coach in Buccaneer History when it’s all said and done.

The open-minded mentality of our coaching staff combined with already established successful approaches will enable us to hopefully continually improve and evolve.

I predict Koetter and Bucs get 4 – 5 Superbowl victories in the next 10yrs.

  9. Hawaiian Buc Says:

“10 games to play with 6 games to win to show improvement over the last REGIME!!”

So Lovie gets 2 years to Koetter’s 1 year? Ok, that sounds about right, because no way can you compare Lovie to a capable NFL coach. He must be judged on a curve.

  10. Lord Cornelius Says:

S will be an interesting position to watch rest of the year. I feel good about our LBs & 3 CBs that play (Grimes/VHIII/Jude). I think Jude can hang at the nickle CB for the future.

We will need to draft a CB to groom behind Grimes. And I want a pass rush still. I think Spence will be good but you can’t have too many great D-lineman.

I’d be happy to see us draft a premier DE or DT, and then spend another later pick on either DE or DT to groom (like 5th or 6th rounder). Use a round 2 or 3 pick on WR & S. Draft a developmental corner in 4th. Super bowls

  11. grafikdetail Says:

give Lovie a freaking break & some respect!! he may be behind the time with what’s going on with football today but he’s not a dirtbag and is one of the few truly decent human beings left in this crappy world… and he was a damn good coach & made it to a Superbowl with Rex Grossman at QB… who other than Dilfer may go down as the lousiest QB to ever play in a Superbowl…

i like dirk too but we don’t have to bash a guy that did so much for the Bucs organization to show how happy we are to have dirk here…

  12. orlbucfan Says:

DK understands that this is the 21st century, 3rd millennium. He is using the high tech tools available now. Kudos, Coach Koetter!! No surprise that the players are paying attention. Their coach is talking to them via the tech tools they know first-hand. This ole wrinkle of a Bucs fan salutes him and them!!!!!! Let’s go get us a much-needed home victory Sunday!!!! Go Mighty Hi-Tech Bucs!! 🙂

  13. 813bucboi Says:

enough with the lovie bashing….dirk has 5x the talent lovie never had and that is what it all boils down to….I cant say for sure any improvement has been made….we got blown out by the cardinals and broncos….costly penalties are still happening….we beat 1 team over 500….

the last 2 games have looked great but we played against 2 very bad teams…win all 3 of these homes games and i’ll see improvement and vote very confident on the next dirk poll…..

during the 3game losing streak people were blasting dirk and smitty….now that we’ve beat 2 team that we were suppose to beat people want to sing praise…BS……you have to wait until December before a judgment can be made regarding improvement….GO BUCS!!!!

“dirk has 5x the talent lovie never had and that is what it all boils down to…”

LOL- um 813 – Lovie was the coach LAST YEAR. Licht is good at identifying and procuring young talent – but has he REALLY improved the talent level 500% over last year’s roster????

I count 3 new starters – Hargreaves, Grimes and Ayers (who has played 1 1/2 games as a Buc)

Its exactly those type of ridiculous comments that explain why nobody can take anything you say with any degree of credibility.

  16. 813bucboi Says:

@pickgrin…..he has actually….those 3 starters are taking the place of 3 people who were starting last year….throw in d.smith as a starter and n.spence as a talented rotational piece and there you have it….5 new players that make the defense a lot better….

are you suggesting that dirk has less talent to work with than lovie?….you have no credibility and the comments you make are based off your one sided uneducated opinion….

the fact is dirk has way more talent than lovie ever had, but somehow he’s still getting similar results….blow outs, penalties, poor clock management….we beat 2 teams that we were suppose to beat and made one a lot closer than it should’ve been….you make yourself sound very foolish with your comments….GO BUCS!!!!

  17. Scurvy Dogs Says:

LOL but still, those 5 new players do not equal a 500% increase in overall talent. I think that was pickgrin’s point.

  18. The Buc Realist Says:

I don’t know who has more excuses!!! Coach my scheme or the last of his Sheep!!!!!

    Go America!!!!

    And Go Bucs!!!!!!

  19. Maze Says:

Hopefully the NFL never has finally woken up and won’t be hiring any more coaching has been head coaches. Those past two seasons were so embarrassing being a Bucs fan. Surprised Lovie didn’t hire his wife to be the head cook too

  20. Lord Corn Says:

Lol 813 looking silly as hell as usual.

Keep making up weird sh1t dude.

  21. Lord Corn Says:

5x the talent! Lmfao I’m sorry I can’t get over it.

We’ve had WAY more injuries to play through compared to last year. Our entire f*cking D line , #2 WR, and top 2 RBs all gone most of the last few weeks when we’ve won. But we have 5X the talent ??

    Ok

  22. 813bucboi Says:

@lord….my point is that dirk has more talent…PERIOD….but some how he’s producing the same results….

@realist….you talking about excuses….@lord says,”We’ve had WAY more injuries to play through compared to last year”….now if that aint sorry excuse it don’t know what is…..everyone team has injuries….

I used the 5x as an example to show that dirk has a lot more talent than lovie ever had….that’s a fact….GO BUCS!!!!

  23. 813bucboi Says:

the bucs may have the dumbest fan base in the nfl with comments like this by @lord….

We’ve had WAY more injuries to play through compared to last year….

what team doesn’t endure injuries during the season….better yet what team cries about them….it stupid comments like that, that keep me coming back…keep it up fellas…GO BUCS!!!

  24. BucinJAX Says:

It appears that both BigHog and 813 have some serious math deficiencies. Anne math teaches logic. Makes we wonder.

grafikdetail, the lovie bashing seems to me to be responding to BigHog, and then to 813. I’ll bet nothing would have been said if BigHog hadn’t repeated his inane mantra.

  25. BucinJAX Says:

    And, not Anne.

  26. Pickgrin Says:

    813bucboi Says:
“you make yourself sound very foolish with your comments”

LOL – you’re right 813bucboi – I bow my head in shame and deference to your superior football, Buccaneer and math knowledge……

  27. pick6 Says:

i think it’s fair to say Dirk Koetter has 5x the talent that Lovie did last year….

    ….on the defensive coaching staff

  28. 813bucboi Says:

LOL….you cant hide the fact that dirk has more talent to work with….PERIOD….GO BUCS!!!!

  29. pick6 Says:

just off the top of my head, lovie could have had darrelle revis, mark barron, and mason foster to bolster his talent levels….he made the call to boot all 3 and hand-picked less talented replacements because he could not see a way to make them as effective as other coaches made them

  30. LB Boogies Says:

Ummmm…didn’t Lovie handpick his team, to include jettisoning Donald Penn and others on the o-line? Did he not bring in McClown at QB? So it’s Dirks fault that Lovie was terrible at personnel, which was consistent with his approach in Chicago? WTH are you guys smoking? I live in Denver and it’s not good enough to erase history and actual facts…or math. Math is hard, but don’t prove the fact that you clearly don’t understand it well.

  31. 813bucboi Says:

first of all licht deserves just as much blame for letting them walk….second, besides barron the other players you’ve named for on a fast decline….revis is getting beat like a drum and recently admitted father time has caught up with him….foster…I wont even bother….he plays sparing for the redskins….so your 1 and 3….wrong as usually….GO BUCS!!!!

  32. Ndog Says:

813 you might want to check those penalty stats again my friend. Plus no Doug Martin, no VJax, no ASJ, no Mankins, no Jackson Smith, and a kicker that is struggling mightily. Plus Dirk beat Carolina who Lovie was 0-4 against. Dude you can’t really believe the crap you and big goof ball are spewing.

  33. Maze Says:

    Dumb and Dumber

  34. BigHogHaynes Says:

I’ve been trying to post for the last 45 min to no avail! Is it something I said! TRUTH!

  35. BigHogHaynes Says:

GO BUCS. GO BLM. STEP-UP AMERICA!

  36. The Buc Realist Says:

    @bighogheinous

I heard that every time the Bucs Hit or Sacked commie kaepernick that they yelled out “social injustice” and commie would look around for it!!!!!

also, No need for America to step up, as it is the best in the world!!!! Now the people need to step-up, people need to treat people better!!!! Because of greed and anger and racism, some in this country are not living up to the frame work of this great nation!!!!

  37. Piratic Says:

@813bucboi: Get your head out of your BigHogHaynes!

  38. Kevin Says:

Koetter is the man with the plan. Give it time it will happen
