Just A “Strain”

October 5th, 2016
Ready?

Ready?

Bucs fans paying attention (not you, Gerald McCoy haters) are exhaling this morning.

Good news is in the air.

Gerald McCoy’s MRI on his injured left calf is nothing too serious, reports Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Just “a strain,” Rapoport says, and McCoy is a possibility to play on Monday Night Football at Carolina.

(You might even be able to watch McCoy at Joe’s massive Watch Party at Abe’s Place in Clearwater. Details here on the FREE 8 wings and pints of the new Jason Light Ale.)

McCoy limped off the field Sunday and things didn’t look promising. He was not at practice yesterday.

Dicey call for the Bucs on Monday night, which precedes the bye week. If McCoy’s calf isn’t ready, then that will affect his renowned get-off. And without that burst, it’s not really Gerald McCoy. It might be wise to let McCoy sit this out and get an extra week of healing.

However, with the Bucs’ season practically on the line, Joe suspects McCoy will play if doctors say he’s healthy enough.

    THANK YOU JESUS!! best news I’ve heard all week!!

  2. tmaxcon Says:

    It does not matter whether it’s a strain Mr softee will miss 6 to 8 games still. He was just setting up his excuses. This team will never win until the losing cancer is removed. McCoy is a paycheck cashing loser make no mistake about it

  3. ndog Says:

    Here we go AGAIN with the playing hurt and the excuses as to why he is not effective. Meanwhile Aaron Donald was just voted Defensive Player of the Week again. Ugh we just cant get the elite players on this team anymore. People wonder what why I get on McCoy it is because he is and was supposed to be exactly what Donald is.

  4. Clintro Says:

    The McCoy haters crack me up.

  5. Bucsfanman Says:

    So ridiculous! SMH
    He’s the best DT we have. How about that tmax? I’m trimming it down for you. When he’s on the field, our DL is better.

    Great news!!!

  6. Lord Cornelius Says:

    Hell yeah. I still would like to go DT next year in draft. Teams with nasty front 7 that pressure the QB win

    1-DT/DE
    2-DT/DE
    3-WR
    4-O-line

    Do that and sign starters at WR/S/CB

    14 superbowls

  8. The Buc Realist Says:

    Smoke screen!!!!

  9. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @tmax,

    You obviously want attention, because you can’t possibly be this much of an idiot. When was the last time he missed 6 games? He’s been one of the most durable DT’s.

  10. Bee Says:

    No matter how you feel about GMC, he misses a lot of games. We need elite players that don’t miss games. Once we get those players on this team they’ll be better. I wish we had Donald instead tho. He’s a game changer

  11. mike Says:

    gmc got hurt? What? I’m shocked. Once this guy is healthy, he is going to dominate.

  12. 813bucboi Says:

    its decent news…clint McDonald and a. spence worked pretty well together….great news would be ayers and doug returning….GO BUCS!!!

  13. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Come on, Joe. There is zero chance we beat the Panthers monday night. Better to sit McCoy until after the bye than to risk greater injury.

  14. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Bee Says
    “No matter how you feel about GMC, he misses a lot of games.”

    That’s total bullspit. You obviously know nothing.

    McCoy has missed 3 games in 4 years, dude. Get your facts straight.

  15. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    @tmaxcon

    See my above response.

  16. LakelandBuc Says:

    We’re 1-7 during our last 8 games with GMC, it don’t matter. It’s not like we’re missing”Mean Joe Greene”.

  17. Defense Rules Says:

    Bonzai … Good luck trying to set Bee and tmaxcon straight. Haters are gonna hate. Agree we should sit GMC for the Panthers game, or at least use him very sparingly … our DLine needs him (and Ayers) big time for the 11 games after that. And Lord Cornelius, you’re missing one position in in your draft priorities that we have 2 holes at right now: Safety. And it’s killing us. Licht should’ve drafted 1 safety this year in the 2nd or 3rd round (Ryan Smith has potential, but I really believe he’s much better suited for CB than Safety). We might be able to afford 1 FA starter for safety, but affording 2 would be a stretch I think.

  18. Mike Johnson Says:

    Bucs need McCoy and Doug M badly! Especially to beat Carolina. Remember, the Panthers will be fired up after that loss to ATL. Riverboat Ron will have there Defense ready. You can Bank on it.

  19. DB55 Says:

    Hawaii

    you know how we always arguing about double teams, etc? You MUST go to buc dot com and see Anthony Becks film study on McDonald. If gmc played like that I would never say a bad word about him. #doubleteams

  20. DB55 Says:

    Has McCoy ever had 6 solo tackles in a game? Or 6 tackles and 1.5 sacks? Btw where’s Henry Melton and AJ Francis? Sooo many question….

  21. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

    DB 55 right on man……im just over his loser mentality that comes off on the guy, the bucs have not won crap with him so to trade him away for some new blood with a new way and new attitude is what is needed becasue he isn’t going to change send him to cleveland for some of their picks

  22. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @DB55,

    McDonald was fantastic on Sunday. I won’t take anything away from him. However, it’s kind of like how a backup QB comes in and typically does well, but as the games go on they fade. I have my doubts McDonald can play anywhere near that level week after week. If he can, that’s fantastic. Neither he or McCoy are the problems with this team.

    McCoy has had several games with 1.5 or more sacks. He had a 3 sack game against Atlanta. He’s also had a few games with 6 tackles. However, as I’m sure you know, that’s not his job to get tackles as a 3 technique. He’s on par with Warren Sapp when it comes to number of tackles. He is going to funnel it to other players, not to mention that they tend to run away from him.

  23. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @Dusthty Rhothdes,

    Yes, that’s the solution. Get rid of a Pro Bowler for picks. It’s worked out so great for us in the past. Talib didn’t win in Tampa, until we got rid of him. Michael Bennett didn’t win in Tampa, until we got rid of him. Legarette Blount, same thing. You see, only an idiot gets rid of talented players, yet keeps scrubs. That’s what we keep doing, and morons keep thinking it’s the correct solution. You just can’t fix stupid.

  24. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    As I keep telling people, the problem with this team isn’t the good players, it’s that we have too many not good players. No one or two players is going to win you games. It’s doesn’t work like that. There’s a reason football is called the ultimate team sport. A team like the Patriots loses the best QB of all time, and goes 3-1. You know why? They have other really good players, great coaches, and continuity. All things we probably don’t have (coaches is up in the air at this point). Winning teams build around their great players, losing teams get rid of their great players for picks. People were calling for Tomlin to be fired a couple years ago and that Big Ben was done, now look at where they are. You can’t keep trying to start over, because it just doesn’t work. You may think you have all the solutions, but if your solution entails getting rid of good players, then it’s a stupid solution. But I know, you guys have it all figured out. Funny thing is, you will be the same people claiming we were idiots to get rid of those guys when they become starts with other teams.

  25. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @DB55,

    I’m not ignoring you, but my comment is awaiting moderation:(

  26. DB55 Says:

    Agreed wouldn’t trade for picks but how about another top 5 player at their position? Looking at you Eric Berry, Tyron Smith, Geno Hayes and Kelvin Benjamin (wishful,lol).

  27. ATrain Says:

    sit McCoy and get Ayers back… I willing to bet when Ayers comes back the line will look different.. Look at the first game and look at the last three…

    Atlanta just beat the Cats….

    BUCS can beat the Cats if the Defense comes out and plays with heart and nastiness.

    Jamies will eat up their secondary because they are young.. Jamies is a young QB he is telegraphing his throws.. He will learn those new CB for the Panthers would see it coming..

  28. Dooshlarue Says:

    GMC impressed me week 1, but i see the annual pattern emerging again and i believe he is a big part of our locker room issues.
    I would love to rid our team of him and his bloated contract, but who in the hell would want to take on his contract and an annual injury protocol.

    We can beat Carolina without Ol Softie…….but we dam sure need Doug Martin.

    And TMax………keep on keeping it real.

    Go Bucs!
    The season aint over and were 1-0 in our division.

  29. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    “i believe he is a big part of our locker room issues.”

    ——-

    What is your basis for this assumption? How often have you been inside the Bucs locker room? No go ahead, tell me why. Why does he keep getting elected captain? Why do the coaches, front office, and media who is there every day say the opposite? So you believe that you know more than them? You must have stayed at a Holiday Inn last night.

  30. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @DB55,

    High paid player for player trades in the NFL are very rare. The last one I can remember was Clinton Portis for Champ Bailey.

    How about we just add a top player without getting rid of McCoy? Believe it or not, it is possible. The top teams do it every year. We have been drafting well, but that just takes time for everyone to develop. There are good free agents available every year. Trading McCoy for Eric Berry wouldn’t make us win more games. We would then be thin at DT, and would still struggle. We need to add good players, not add one and then subtract one.

  31. DB55 Says:

    I stand corrected! McCoy did it in 2013 and 2014. Against Carolina 8 tackles and a sack. Impressive!

  32. Mike Johnson Says:

    Like your thinking here hawaiin Buc.

  33. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    Anyone that thinks we are better without McCoy needs to be punched in the face. Hard.

  34. DB55 Says:

    I’m here for my punch in my face, please. Thank you.

  35. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @DB55,

    In all seriousness, you really believe we would be a better team without McCoy? Seriously?

  36. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    Aren’t you the same person that was complaining we got rid of Talib?

  37. Dooshlarue Says:

    Hawaiian, i respect your insight on this board more than most others.
    But jesus man, when it comes to Ol Softie 93 you really lose credibility.

  38. DB55 Says:

    Nah Hawaii I loved Talib. Schuks I even liked Barrett ruud but that’s another story.

    I think his mindset is all wrong for this team. He needs to be on a team where he’s not the leader just a big role player. We need more McDonald’s, Ayers, jaboo’s who refuse to lose. Imo.

  39. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @Dooshlarue,

    Yeah, I lose credibility because I like our Pro Bowl DT to continue to be on our team. Gotcha.

  40. dusthty rhothdes Says:

    what has mccoy done for the TEAM since he has been a buc? helped us to top 5 draft picjs

  41. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    What has the team done for McCoy since he’s been a Buc? The players I mean.
