Dominik: Don’t Blame Jameis

October 3rd, 2016
Not Jameis' fault, says former GM.

Defends America.

A lot of folks, including Bucs coach Dirk Koetter, are angry this morning at America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, for throwing two early picks that turned into two Broncos touchdowns and may have cost the Bucs the game.

It seems a familiar face around Tampa Bay thinks this is lazy logic.

While former Bucs rock star general manager Mark Dominik agreed the two picks by Jameis sure put the Bucs at a disadvantage, Dominik, who hosts a Sunday wrap-up show with Zig Fracassi, heard exclusively on SiriusXM NFL Radio, seems to believe the Bucs had plenty of time to come back but a previously sound offensive line collapsed and doomed the team.

“Jameis Winston was getting knocked all over the football field,” Dominik said. “I felt bad for him. Every time he has [the ball], I think he can make a play. He just got hammered and hammered and the offensive line had no run game which was the demise for Tampa Bay.”

Dominik has a point, though Jacquizz Rodgers had no issue running the ball in the times he got touches with that same line.

Shoot, even after Jameis’ second pick, it was still a one-score game.

Problem was, due to the offensive line’s collapse, Jameis couldn’t get anything rolling. Geez, 16 quarterback hits? Five sacks? That’s crazy.

  1. DB55 Says:

Not crazy, been going on all season even into last season. Biggest liability is Dotson which got me po’d cuz he just got paid. Oh well, it’s a Bucs life for me.

  2. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I 100% agree that Dotson is a liability.

The only problem is, we cannot replace him right now.

  3. Buc1987 Says:

    Dotson’s been a liability.

  4. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Licht would have run a better draft they could have both Lael Collins and Laremy Tunsil…in addition instead of a kicker draft a WR, the needs of this team were not a kicker nor a CB that might be good, licht has screwed this team into the basement

  5. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    Psst

Jack Conklin is currently the 2nd-highest graded RT in the NFL
He’s surrendered a grand total of 5 QB pressures

  6. 2Players_1ChoreographedCelebration Says:

Dot was up against two of the premier pass rushers in this game today, being Von Miller and Shane Ray. Show me a tackle who can lock down those two the entire game, and I’ll show you an All-Pro, not on the wrong side of 30 tackle who hasnt been mired in the mediocrity of the Bucs franchise is entire career.

Our team is garbage with a garbage mentality and garbage history. The right tackle didn’t lose this game, it was our sh!t organization, from top down

  7. D-Rome Says:

…but a previously sound offensive line collapsed and doomed the team.

The offensive line has not been sound this season at all. They now lead the NFL in QB hits at a whopping 39 through four games. It turns out the Pro Football Focus stat geeks were correct about the Bucs O-Line. One of the worst in the league.

  8. 2Players_1ChoreographedCelebration Says:

That’s cute. Conklin was drafted ahead of where the Bucs were at 9. Any other fantasy picks you wish you woulda made of players not available to the Bucs? Oooooooo that Khalil Mack sure is good, too bad we didn’t trade up and get him a few years ago.

  9. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Winston is not blameless. No member of the team or staff is blameless. I hope they realize that and get their act together after the bye week.

On the bright side…a lot of backups are going to play Monday night due to injuries. Now is their chance to prove they can be starters. Who knows? We might find a diamond or two.

  10. DB55 Says:

    Luv

We talked about Conklin on draft day. I still that that was our pick before he got snatched from us. Oh well, at least vhg3 is playing lights out. I don’t think he’s given up a yac yet.

  11. LUVMYBUCS Says:

I don’t wanna here no one say Dotson is a liability.
Remember the conversations before the draft??

MOST of the the folks on this board ..was like
“We DON”T need to draft a RT in the TOP TEN”.

  12. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    DB55

I’m just throwing jabs at the sh!t talkers

  13. Buc2015 Says:

I was as disappointed as anyone w/Jameis’ game yesterday, but here’s a little perspective:

Starting QBs vs. Broncos This Season

    Cam Newton, Car 18/33 (54.5%), 194 yds, 1 TD/1 Int, 69.5 rtg
    Andrew Luck, Ind 21/40 (52.5%), 197 yds, 1 TD/1 Int, 64.3 rtg
    Andy Dalton, Cin 21/31 (67.7%), 206 yds, 0 TD/1 Int, 72.8 rtg
    Jameis Winston, TB 17/35 (48.6%), 179 yds, 0 TD/2 Int, 40.1 rtg

In other words, that D is stout, had put the clamps on three veteran Pro Bowlers (including an MVP) already. Jameis was a tad worse but he’s also the youngest, least experienced of the group, with arguably the worst supporting cast of the four. In any case, I’m confident he will bounce back ….. though it sucks that we’ll be facing another good team desperate for a win, at their place (like Arizona). Gotta turn it around somehow ….

  14. John Ensch Says:

Demar Dotson should have been cut last season before he could do any more damage to the OL. It’s easy to see that Jameis is trying to do to much. He needs to just play and not put the whole team on his shoulders. Why is it we always end up with a defensive coordinator that is a has been. Mike Smith’s defensive glory days are long gone. There is always a public reason a head coach gets fired and then there is the real reason they get fired and I think we are seeing that now with our defense. Jason Licht should have been sent out the door with coach Smith.

  15. 2Players_1ChoreographedCelebration Says:

Okay, but wasn’t there much more moaning and groaning over the pass rush and secondary? Haven’t the Bucs invested quite a few high picks in the O line recently?

Hindsight sure is 20/20 when you can cherry pick players the Bucs shoulda woulda coulda gone after

  16. Chris Says:

Conklin went before the Bucs pick so yeah.

Licht needs to answer for the extension he gave Dotson when he could t unseat cherlious.

  17. rayjay1122 Says:

Did anyone really expect that our OL would stop the Denver DL? I sure did not due to the disparity in talent. Von Miller is a beast who abused Newton in the Super Bowl and the others on their line are also stout. OL is not our biggest weakness but Denver has a great defense which just outmatched the Bucs offense. Simple as that. If we had of played a flawless game, we may have been able to have kept it close enough to pull off an upset with a little luck but who really thought that would happen? I am not going to quit supporting the Bucs but I am going to stop watching their games until they get their act together, not to be a fair weather fan but because I am seriously unable to watch this crap without it very adversely affecting me and quite frankly, it is just not worth anger, depression, sadness and drunkenness. I mean, they had me so peeved last night that I was ready to quit watching NFL football as a whole since it is also depressing to see how many team are competent NFL franchises compared to the frauds in Tampa.

People dont realiize what a HUGE part JON ROBINSON in the bucs 2015 draft

“Jason Gump said to me he wanted to try to run the 2016 draft. I packed by sh!t and hauled a$$ to Nashville” Jon Robinson

“Jon is smart, works hard, and is team oriented. He showed a strong commitment to finding the players and specific types of players we needed, digging out information on their individual personal characteristics, and understanding the projection of how each player would contribute and fit into our program,’’ Belichick said of Robinson. “He did many ‘extras’ that went beyond the normal duties in his job. Jon patiently worked his way up through the Patriots organization and was unselfish in his team-first attitude to do whatever he could to help us win.

“Jon educated me on the changes in the landscape of scouting and we made adjustments in our process as a result of his perceptive comments.”

Robinson, set to make his first trip to the NFL Combine in Indianapolis as general manager, joined the Titans after spending the past two seasons as director of player personnel with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Agree with you Buc2015. Add in our injuries and it shouldnt have surprised anyone.

  23. Tampa Tony Says:

Are we still taking Dominik serious as a talent and football evaluator?

  24. celly Says:

I expected the Bucs to go 2-3 before the bye, with those 2 wins coming against the Falcons and the Rams.

So far, they’re one win outside of what I expected them to do. And we still have a winnable game against the Panthers. The season post-bye week should be better. Key word is should.

We’re a young team that has played against 3 STOUT defenses.

  25. feelthepewterpower Says:

Denver has dominated the best offenses in the NFL. Buccs are no where near the level of the Patriots, Panthers, Colts, Steelers, etc. You could see the train-wreck coming.

  26. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Just think that licht is horrible at his job and cannot see the forest from the trees and I dont care about the stupid kicking gamble its whatever except that was not what the bucs needed, just like they did not need VH3, the bucs needed DE, $, and WR or a #2 WR, and if tunsil was best player available they should have smoked him out and grabbed him, he is doing great for the woeful phins

  27. Buc1987 Says:

Celly…that’s what I expected too. That’s why I more stunned from the Rams game than I am over a game I knew they’d take a beat down.

    They needed that Rams game.

  28. 2Players_1ChoreographedCelebration Says:

Nah f!ck that nonsense. You’re not the only one who follows the draft. You can play armchair GM all you want and you seem like a good guy (girl?) but naming players that weren’t even available to the Bucs who ended up being good like some kind of wizard makes you come off like an arrogant ass.

Was VH3 the right pick? Maybe, time will tell. But this is a broken team. The losing culture had bred losers. A rookie RT wouldn’t have changed that.

  29. Broy34 Says:

Allllllll of you guys miss the big picture. Until this team gets a coach in here that demands respect and inspires they will not win games because they do not get the Demarcus wares in free agency. The true leaders. Meaning young players and first time coaches over and over. Pay the big bucks being Illini or gruden out of retirement or get a big time college coach. Koetter is terrible. His playcalling was ABYSMAL. Jaquizz did juuuuust fine and he even has biased feelings towards the guy yet went sims. And the man in the booth licht is number one to blame. While fuller is KILLING it we have a bottom 5 kicker and another second rounder just got waived. We draft fuller we’re 2-2

  30. LUVMYBUCS Says:

By the way Dallas has invested how premium picks on the OLINE?

    Examples:

    1st Round (#9) Tyron Smith (2011)
    • 2× Pro Bowl (2013, 2014)
    • First-team All-Pro (2014)
    • Second-team All-Pro (2013

    1st Round (#31) Travis Frederick (2013)
    • Pro Bowl (2014)
    • Second-team All-Pro (2014)

    1st Round (#16) LG-Zack Martin (2014)
    • Pro Bowl (2014)
    • First-team All-Pro (2014)

Believe me rookie 4rd pick QB Dak Prescott (now 3-1) – is not complaining

  31. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

luvmybucs spot on and then they stole another 1st rounder in collins and now they have a rookie qb and rookie rb tops in the league…..licht possibly did good with smith and maybe marpet but go grab collins when he was available and go get tunsil who dropped to you, similar to the way sapped fropped back in the day but licht whiffed and a cb is not helping this team right now

  32. thegregwitul Says:

Enough of the Lael Collins talk, the kid wasn’t signing with a team if he was picked in the 7th round. So sick of these arm chair GMs just throwing out every name as if this is Madden and the Bucs have open call over every player in the league.

News flash; some players want to play for other teams and other players are not available for the Bucs to select as each team has a limited number of draft picks.

As for Jameis, he’s a young QB with great potential that seems to be trying to do too much at times. It doesn’t help that the Bucs don’t have a consistent ground game and the team needs some kind of speed to open up the field. I don’t have a lot of hope for next Monday, but hopefully the bye week can get some of these guys healthy.

  33. ShutTheBucUp Says:

There was absolutely nothing positive to take away from this game (or the Rams game). Denver was struggling and still wiped the floor with us. Trevor Siemian and Paxton Lynch still looked like franchise quarterbacks against the Bucs defense. This team is probably going 4-12. There isn’t enough mental toughness, talent or depth to get this team over the hump. The 2nd rounder (that we traded up for) to get a kicker set this team back, like it or not. Those picks could have been spent on pass rush and a speedy receiver. Instead we got a headcase kicker. The FA lineman we spent millions on hasn’t even hit the practice field. Sorry, but I don’t see how any reasonable human being can look at what this team has done so far and think we can turn it around.

  34. Ndog Says:

So I agree with no excuses and all but seriously how many teams, can be down their entire dline, left guard, starting running back, 2nd round tight end, #4 and only speed wr, starting fb/te, backup fb/te and beat the undefeated world champs?

  35. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    2Players_1ChoreographedCelebration Says:

Like I said that was aimed at the sh#t talkers

  36. GhostofSchiano Says:

Just read a story that the Bucs are up to 11 total injured players. Six of which would be starters if healthy. I know injuries are part of the game but this many in such a short time. Too soon to say the “Gruden Curse”?

  37. ptwalk Says:

Buc2015 hit the nail on the head. That does it for me. Very good observation.

  38. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Don’t blame Winston……..Winston would blame Winston. Pressure didn’t cause the two Ints…….
Now, was there more blame to spread around…..yes, we had no running game so you could expect a fierce rush from a great defense.
Our defense was somewhat better in this game……without the 3 turnovers, we could have made it interesting if not a win.

If we can somehow beat Carolina (doubt it) we are right where we should be after 5.

  39. 2Players_1ChoreographedCelebration Says:

Not gonna doubt that drafting o linemen has its benefits to young QBs. But is Dallas a complete team? Hell no! I’d say they’ve been beneficiaries of playing weak ass teams the first 4 weeks.

Also – Lest you forget that Dak doesn’t pass downfield. Only player with less passes 20+ is Jay Cutler. And o yeah, he also has a premium running back and premium wideout. You can play the “let’s compare draft strategies” game all you want but the point is the Cowboys created an environment for Dak to thrive. Jameis sh!ts the bed because they do not

  40. 2Players_1ChoreographedCelebration Says:

  41. Pat Says:

Denver did their damage to our o-line in the second half which just happened to coincide with us being behind in the game due to those early picks therefore everyone knew we were going to pass the ball. Denver is truly the last defense that you want to spot 14 points. So… it circles back to what Winston did at the beginning. Don’t forget people… it was already going to take a very well played game on our part to begin with…and even then it would be tough. Koeter along with Winston and the entire Bucs team knew this going into the game. So…. to come out at the start of the game and play like that on the part of Winston was unacceptable. Again… Right back to Winston. This is not lazy logic this is a exact logic

  42. Buc1987 Says:

Everyone keeps breaking down this game as if they thought the Bucs were going to win coming into this game. YOU know damn well you had it chalked up as a loss, and it really doesn’t matter how it happened. Yet everyone still wants to speculate on the what if’s.

Well what if Winston threw 4 picks against a team that was already going to beat them coming into the game? What if?

Bottom line. Denver’s a much better team than ours yet some of you expected a different outcome and I have no idea why when most of you predicted a Buc loss before the game was even played.

But carry on and continue to make too much out of a loss that was already predicted by 90% of the posters on JBF. Hell even Joe was already calling them 1-3 before the game was even played.

  43. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @ 87

You are right that most of us were expecting a loss….including me, but you can’t deny that if we didn’t turn the ball over things might have been different.

  44. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    87

BS I put money on that game – and I took in L.
I expected to see a more competitive game from Jameis.
Not watch him throw away yet another game – in the 1st half.
    I’m not the pampering/coddling type.

  45. Buc1987 Says:

TBBF…well “what if” we got some turnovers of our own, from say our defense?

The game might have been different that way too. I mean they were playing against a rookie in his first start.

I’m by far not making excuses for JW, but he easily could have had 4 picks in the loss. It really is that simple for me. They were going to lose and Jameis would throw his usual picks.

  46. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Agree….there are many “what ifs” Their rookie QB beat 3 other pretty good teams…..and, our defense hasn’t caused turnovers all year.

We do, however have a good punter.

  47. shouldhavedraftedefiert Says:

Eh, that was one of the top defensive teams, a very good dline and 2 all pro corners. Jamies will get hit, it’s not an excuse. Koetter could have adjusted but he doesn’t adjust during the game and they came out scared after the half. He’s a rookie head coach and it’s showing. Not going to Rogers shows his stubbornness and inability to adapt. Not letting Jamies go gunslinger down 13 points with 15 minutes to go was coaching scared. It’s going to ruin Winston. Letting Jameis be Jameis is ok as Joe said if it’s wake forest (lol) but tied up on our own 30 trying to zip it into a non-existent throwing window instead of checking down or throwing it away is Koetter’s fault. This team will be fine, it’s not going to be 40 yards touchdowns all day, those are very rare days. Once Winston learns that and settles the fuk down he’ll be fine.

  48. Buc1987 Says:

LUV…..that’s your fault that you put money on it. So you were part of the 10% that actually thought they could stay with Broncos.

Where were you last week? I could use some money if you’re throwing it away.

  49. Buc1987 Says:

TBBF…Anger is a pro bowler. lol

  50. Kevin Says:

This team.is juat cursed flat out. Its seems like nothing can ever go theyre way. Its like one of those dreams.your trying to.run but your feet are stuck.in thick mud, or your goving it everytjing but your tires are just spinning. Something.is really wrong with this team. Its like the Bucs, the Browns and a few other teams are just the chosen ones by NFL suits to be a lousy team. I dont know wtf?????

  53. Buc1987 Says:

The Bucs play Seattle later on this year. I expect the Bucs to lose and Winston throws 3 picks.

There now it’s out there in the open. My prediction. So when they lose to Seattle, no matter how they lose, I’m fine with it. Just like Denver. Maybe that’s how I stay a fan so long. Cause we had posters on here last night saying that the Denver game was the dagger for them. They would no longer BE Buc fans. Not random posters either. Regulars and it makes me shake my head and wonder what they thought the outcome would be coming into the game. Surely they too had this game chalked up as a Bucs win.

All I’m saying is I’m fine and dandy. Fine and dandy with Jameis Winston as wll as the state of the team. Needed the Rams win, but oh well.

  54. orlbucfan Says:

@Tbbf: totally agree. If Denver didn’t get those gift wrapped 14 points, this game would have been a dogfight to the end. Add on 6 more courtesy of the fumble. That totals 20 points. You give an average NFL team that many points, they will probably win. You give a SB winning team WITH NO MAJOR INJURIES 20 points, they will slaughter you. Which is precisely what happened. Denver didn’t beat the Bucs; Tampa Bay beat itself. BTW, Aqib Talib is still a hot headed lowlife. Good riddance then and now!

  55. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    Buc1987

So I’m expecting U to put at least 5 dimes – on Seattle to beat the BUCS.
    Is that right?

  56. LakelandBuc Says:

Lousy drafts, lousy free agent signings, lousy coaching = Lousy team

  57. Bucsfanman Says:

Anger is easily the most consistent player on this team! Pro-Bowl bound for sure ’87!

I took 2 things away from this game:
    1. Without a run game this offense is terrible
    2. We have not progressed through 4 games, in fact, we appear to be regressing

We can beat other football teams if we don’t first beat ourselves. You can’t keep giving teams point-blank shots after turnovers, especially the champs, and expect to win!

  58. Buc1987 Says:

Well LUV …what’s the spread for the Panthers game??lol

  59. LUVMYBUCS Says:

Whatever it is— I’ll drop at least a dIme on it.
Carolina is yet another beatable team.
Unless Jameis Christ — flops in the 1st half again. lol

    Right now we got +6

  61. Buc4Lyfe79 Says:

    Sorry ass GM
Lazy ass talking head…even from HD tv land, Buc fans could see the holes and running lanes that were open last night. Problem is the tap dancer wanna be we have starting at tailback who prefers to dance up to the line instead of putting his head down and RUNNING RIGHT AT IT smh…

  62. Buc1987 Says:

I’m still seeing an 8-8 team, possibly 7-9 cause of the Rams loss.

  63. Eric Says:

    Here is our problem:

Bucs won/loss record during Dungy/Gruden era:

    111-97 (7 playoff appearances/Super Bowl)

Bucs won/loss record with all other coaches:

130-289 (three playoff appearances, one win – many years ago)

Glazer morons fired both those guys. And the brain dead locals lead the charge.

  64. gotbbucs Says:

Backed up INTs in your own territory will lose you most games.

Winston needs to be better. We need way more fire power on the offensive side of the ball to compete also. Vincent Jackson will be gone next year and we need to draft or sign a least two new WRs. We’re pretty obviously still a couple years away from being consistently competitive, and that’s if they make the right choices in FA and the draft.

  65. rayjay1122 Says:

I am still on board with our Bucs. We lost to 3 superior teams and we are rebuilding as usual. I think that most of the regulars on JBF who were typing about jumping ship or throwing in the towel were just frustrated, angry and embarrassed and at the time felt like packing it in. Most of us once we calm down and have time to process the reality of the situation, come back to our senses. It is like a parent disciplining their child while angry which is not well advised due to the chances of being too severe and possibly harming him or her.
There are though a ton of people on the open threads that you never see on any other article, ripping into the Bucs and other people who they disagree with.

  66. Brian Says:

The failure to go with Rodgers as primary back doomed them yesterday. Anyone with eyes can see he is better than Sims in that role. Sims is flat out horrible as a primary back.

  67. BucFan20 Says:

The one common excuse. We are always rebuilding.

  68. Tampa Tony Says:

I’m starting to believe this franchise is cursed as almost every player who leaves here is successful elsewhere.

Bucs are just a bad woeful franchise that waste the time of all their fans

  69. Chris Says:

Lol, so you’re fine with Jameis throwing 30 picks this season n? Because that’s what he’s on pace for . That’s unacceptable . He’s regressed, and it’s not just this game. If this were another QB ( see Mike Glennon) you guys would be burning him in effigy. Not saying Glennons the answer, but my God you guys put blinders on for your college players. Call it what is , he’s a turnover machine helping with the demise of this team . We will not beat Carolina, San Diego, Dallas, Kansas City, etc. We will be a double digit loss team for 23 rd time in our history.

  70. Chris Says:

And Jameis calling for the pitch from Simms???? This isn’t freeging smear the …..

  71. iamkingsu Says:

One high draft pick on the OLine. And just shift a few into different positions and the Bucs will be fine there. Then just draft speed! Then we’ll be set. It’s not going to be a long process

  72. iamkingsu Says:

    @chris

Naw before that. Can you tell me WTF was Brate doing not blocking anyone?? He motioned to Von Miller why he didn’t he at least touch him??

  73. LargoBuc Says:

I don’t think ppl are mad that the Bucs lost, it’s more of how sloppy the product on the field looked. Again.
This offense has been predictable. Jameis is struggling mechanically as he has all season and not addressing the WR poition is really hurting us. Top that off with not having a running game to lean on.
And the defense. The D line is up and down. We dont get enough pressure. We miss alot of tackles. And the secondary is as bad as ever. I guess it dosen’t matter who is calling plays on defense if you cant cover and cant tackle. It just looks bad ATM. I know how goid Denver is but as bad as we looked during the first quarter, there isn’t one gane after the bye you can look at and call a gimme. @SF Yea the west coast is almost always a loss for us. @KC Against that secondary? Plus Alex Smith will have the ball out before we can even react. @SD See SF except Philip Rivers will pick our decondary apart. CHI We are at home but Jay Cutler is 3-0 against us. @DAL I doubt we are going to be allowed to beat the Cowboys in their house.
This team has alot to prove and multiple issues to correct. Its not too late and we have a chance playing the reeling Panthers on Monday night. It seems unlikely but this game has to be where you turn it around. Even if we lose I will be relieved if we can just correct the sloppy play and the mistakes.

  74. CreamsicleBananaHammock Says:

There’s more than enough blame to go around

Jameis HAS GOT TO STOP TURNING THE BALL OVER. Period. I’m as big of a Jameis fan as there is, but the turnovers, especially early, are killing us. Has he thrown a pick on his first throw of the game in every game this year? 3/4? Unacceptable

The defense HAS GOT TO GET OFF THE FIELD. I read somewhere that most (all?) of our possessions yesterday started inside our own 30. This league is too tough and that Denver D in particular is too good for any offense to be able to drive the length of the field all day long.

Our skill players HAVE GOT TO STEP UP. Yea Jameis is forcing the ball into Mike Evans…because that’s all he’s got.

The coaches HAVE TO START HOLDING PLAYERS ACCOUNTABLE. Vincent Jackson is not getting the job done. Why isn’t Russell Shepard getting a shot? Charles Sims is clearly not an every down back. Why isn’t Jacquizz getting the first and second down carries?

There’s plenty of blame to go around. Jameis deserves some, but I don’t think there’s any doubt that he’s getting zero help out there right now.

  75. Kobe Faker Says:

Damnnnn! whats worse than our Bucs getting a beatdown is Jenna Laine talking about our bucs

Kobe has a problem with girls talking about our many sport football…girls and football do not belong together

Great, more wisdom from Bananarama-loving ex-GM Mark Dominik….

  81. 813bucboi Says:

    @dustyrhodes….I agree…licht dropped the ball by not convincing l.collins to come here…he was a 1st round talent….

@chris…I agree with everything you said regarding Winston….my uncle is a die hard fsu fan….yesterday after the first pick he said the wr has to fight for the ball…I said what?…that throw should’ve never been made….the second one he should’ve took the underneath route but got baited by talib….he again put no accountability on jameis…..jameis seems to have regressed…as a matter of fact this team as a whole has regressed….your right…if that was glennon people would be screaming bench him….

just a like history on jimbo fisher….he’s put numerous of qb’s in the first round and were suppose to be franchise qb’s….j.russell, c.ponder, e.manuel, and now jameis…..Russell, manuel and jameis all played with top notch talent and was part of a #1 recruiting class….now I do believe jameis is better than those other in terms of competitive nature and leadership but he was surrounded by great players in college…..that makes a huge difference….GO BUCS!!!!

  82. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Says:

Jameis has got to learn to take more check downs. Sims is not a good between the taCKLES back, but he is scary out in space. Let Quiz Rogers handle the between the tackles running, and use Mike Evans as a decoy to dink and dunk Sims and our tight ends down the field.

  83. SOEbuc Says:

This was really bad coaching yesterday. Im not one of these people that are already wanting to kick Koetter to the curb, but this was bad. Jaquizz Rogers was having a good day and yet was never given the ball against a 3-4 defense that was blitzing a lot. Rogers for sure needs to be getting much more touches up the middle than Simms. If they are going to let Koetter go somewhere in the near future, I would LOVE to see them throw a fat bag of cash at Gruden and get him back. Gruden and Jameis together? A top notch QB and a top notch HC that both arrive at work at 4 a.m. to get down to business? in the words of the great Ronald McDonald, “Im lovin it.”

  84. Chris Says:

    Dunno about top notch QB

  85. Tom S. Says:

Wait, is this the guy who traded away Talib for a 4th round pick to the Patriots. The same player who has had a better pro career than any Dominik has drafted?

    Just checking.

  86. 813bucboi Says:

@87….what has this team shown you so far that would make you believe we would win 6-7 more games?….we look just as bad if not worse than any other 1-3 team out there but some of those teams have better coaching….GO BUCS!!!

  87. ptwalk Says:

The answer to what the problem is, and I know they won’t do this but the answer is to have Mike Smith as Head coach where he’s had his best success and Koetter as OC, where he’s had his and find a DC or promote Hayes.

  88. Chris Says:

And stop with the America QB , it’s just plain stupid now. You’re even questioning him being a franchise QB

  89. unbelievable Says:

Many of us thought the Bucs would lose yesterday before the game started, but it’s HOW we lost that upsets fans.

I’m a supporter of Jameis but he has to be better. He’s throwing INTs in our own zone every single game now.

Our defense was actually holding up against the Broncos very well until late in the 2nd half. But we can’t keep giving them the ball inside our own 20 yard line.

That falls on Jameis. And Koetter— his playcalling yesterday was abysmal.

It’s crystal clear to anyone with eyes that Rodgers is much better at running between the tackles, so why keep forcing it so Sims? I’ve said this since day 1, Sims is not a power back. He’s outstanding in space, and as a slot receiver, so why not use him that way?!?

Jamies needs to learn to take the underneath once in a while too. I saw at least 4 plays yesterday where he went for the home run, 30+ yards downfield pass into double coverage, when he had a man wide open in the middle of the field for an easy 1st down.

After Koetter and Jameis, the rest of my blame goes to the o-line, Mike Smith and the safeties.

Oh and what’s up with Grimes? Seriously how many times did he fall down yesterday? BEFORE it was even raining… 3? 4 times?

Like I said, I expected a loss before the game started, but that game was winnable! That is what’s frustrating. But you know what they say, good teams find ways to win, bad teams find ways to lose….

  90. Buc1987 Says:

813bucboi …I guess you’ll have to check back in about a month and a 1/2.

  91. Chris Says:

3-13, maybe 4-12, but this team finds ways to lose, much like the Browns and other cellar dwelling teams

  92. Newbucsfan2 Says:

I started to wonder during the rash of injuries if maybe some of our players just wanted to get out of the game??

  93. Chris Says:

Me too , I think some have already quit on this team

Me too , I think some have already quit on this team

Very very troubling if that is true!

  95. Cobraboy Says:

    That’s a serious Donk defense.

  96. LargoBuc Says:

Have players quit on this team? For Koetters sake I sure hope not. Losing the locker room is the kiss of death for any head coach in any sport. It happened to Rah, obviously. It happened to Schiano, though maybe not as obvious it wasade clear just how much the locker room despised him. And it happened to Lovie as evidenced by that abysmal four game losing streak. Is it happening to Koetter? Four friking games in?!? I hope not. But one thing is for sure, Koetter looks overwhelmed out there. You can tell the stress is starting to get to him.

  97. Lord Cornelius Says:

I don’t even know what to say really. Disappointed in Winston. Disappointed in the defense. Disappointed in the O-line. Disappointed in the punt.

Grimes single handily gave up one of those TD drives falling on the ground twice. I was hoping for better from him. Charles sims and the run game sucked. Agree with Joe that Rodgers should have been given more carries.

We can’t win if Winston throws those kind of picks. The defense honeslty didn’t play that terribly. Our offense had a sh1t load of possessions and opportunities as we forced a good amount of punts but it wasn’t enough.

So tired of losing man. Although I thought we’d be 3-2 or 2-3 at the bye. Win next week and we are on pace. Use the bye to get healthy and try to salvage this season

  98. Defense Rules Says:

To all the Bucs fans who keep saying they knew the Bucs were going to lose BEFORE the game was played, consider something else: Your HEAD may have told you the Bucs would lose that game, but your HEART held out hope that the Bucs could win that puppy. Reality said ‘Broncos are the SB champs and they have an awesome defense.’ And yet hope told you ‘IF Jameis can just have another incredible game, and IF the OLine can protect him, and IF we can mount some type of a running game, and IF our WRs can catch a few deep balls, and IF our defense can rise to the occasion and hold Denver to just a few points, and IF … yada, yada.’ Lots of other IFs.

Denver is 4-0 for a reason: they have very few weaknesses. And our Bucs are 1-3 right now for a similar reason: we’ve got far too many weaknesses. But the Bucs won’t become Denver overnight; we’ve got a lot of building to do and a lot of growing to do. Changing GMs and coaches every 2 years won’t accomplish that as we should’ve all learned by now. This coaching staff can build that championship team I’m convinced, but it’s going to take time. If they go 7-5 the rest of the way, that’s an 8-8 season … and some progress. Not a given by any means, but it is doable.

  99. BigMacAttack Says:

I think we have a real good shot at going 13-3 now. Jk

  100. Buccaneers Says:

This just in. The stat nerds have looked at all the plays and stats and win losses and turnovers and everything. It’s been determined that you’re Tampa Bay Buccaneers are indeed they worst team in all of football. What else is new though it’s teams suck for 11 years now

  101. Buccaneers Says:

It’s funny because the crowd was pathetically quiet yesterday I could hear it over the TV. This happens every year to us. We get up for that first game and make tons of noise only to watch the team crap all over themselves. What more can we do it and sit on out
    hands

  102. Buccaneers Says:

The sad thing is the student has no chance of showing any good football this year. They have way way too many problems. Nearly every position on the field is a problem for this team oh and we also have coaching has a problem so not like they can coach the way out of it position on the field is a problem for this team oh and we also have coaching has a problem so not like they can coach the way out of it .don’t get angry bucks fans just do it I do laugh at how pathetic they are

  103. Destinjohnny Says:

Jameis didn’t draft sims in the 3rd round when there were all pro Guards available

  104. Rod Munch Says:

It’s remarkable this has to be said over and over again… but anyone who knows football knew that a strech of games that goes, @Cardinals, Rams, Broncos, @Panthers, was going to be an insanely tough strech for any QB, more or less one that is only in his second year and only has one legitimate NFL WR and no running game.

The Broncos are an elite defensive, they held Luck, on 5 more pass attempts, to 200 yards and 2 turnovers. Gee, that’s pretty much exactly the same numbers as Winston would have had with a few more pass attempts.

Also Winston put up 400 yards against a very good Rams defense that made Palmer look awful and make Wilson look awful.

The sky isn’t falling – post bye week the schedule gets dramatically easier and then suddenly Winston will look much better. Well assuming Dirk doesn’t quit on his team again.

  105. 813bucboi Says:

@unbelievable….the way we lost a lot of games last year is what cost lovie his job…..

I also said last year at the time of dirks hire that jameis made dirk look better than he actually was….no doubt jameis has regressed….

@newbucsfan2 and @chris…..you may be on to something….I said this last week when dirk threw players under the bus talking about a losing culture when he was the one blowing the clock management and then punting while your down by 3 scores….that move sent a message to the team that he didn’t believe in them to win the game….now it seems like some of the players are questioning the intelligence of the hc and are just going thru the motions….GO BUCS!!!!

  106. Cobraboy Says:

Right now the #1 priority is getting healthy.

On a roster of 53, what do you think would happen with Ayers, Smith, Martin, Stocker, Noah Spence and McCoy off the field?

    And an invisible V Jax.

  107. 813bucboi Says:

@defenserules says…”This coaching staff can build that championship team I’m convinced, but it’s going to take time. If they go 7-5 the rest of the way, that’s an 8-8 season … and some progress. Not a given by any means, but it is doable.”….

now is that your heart or your head talking?….what has this staff shown you that makes you believe we can go 7-5 the rest of the way?….the whole team has regressed…GO BUCS!!!

  108. LakelandBuc Says:

I’m not quitting on the Bucs, I never had any faith in them from the beginning. But I’m glad a lot of fans have finally open their eyes and seen the LICHT. The Stench will only get worse, before it get better.

  109. Bucsfanman Says:

I’m not buying in to the “schedule” argument. The better team won but the Bucs aided them in many regards. For instance, you can’t turn the ball over in point-blank range and expect to win. We did it twice. Much like the Cardinal game, if not for the bone-head turnovers, we were in those games.
Our team is not good enough to climb out of those kind of holes. Throw in a lack of a run-game and stupid penalties that kept drives alive and it’s no wonder we’re 1-3.
Defense Rules is right. We’re not a good football team right now. It takes time to get to the level that Denver is at. That, and good management!!!

  110. Buc1987 Says:

813bucboi…easy to say what you say after the Denver game. Regressed and all that….

Like I said before you’ll have to check back in a month and a 1/2. I hope you will check back, but somehow I doubt it if the Bucs are sitting at say 4-4. I imagine you’ll be nowhere around.

Right now, your opinion doesn’t hold much weight with me. Ya see I saw your posts all summer long. You’re not the biggest Koetter fan to begin with. So of course you’re going to look for failure every turn. I mean why stop what you’ve been doing for the last 8 weeks or so.

Have your fun now, and check back in 6 weeks.

  111. Defense Rules Says:

@813bucboi … “what has this staff shown you that makes you believe we can go 7-5 the rest of the way?” Bucboi, go back to our first game this season for a second. This Bucs team … healthy … beat a healthy Falcons team in their house. And they didn’t just squeak by; they beat them handily. Admittedly the Falcons defense isn’t of the same caliber of the Cardinals or Broncos or even the Rams, but neither are the defenses of most of the teams we’ll play after the bye. I’m not saying we will win, but IF we can back healthy, we can be competitive. Again, go back to the first game to see what a healthy Bucs team is capable of … coached by this coaching staff.

  112. Buc1987 Says:

Some predicted and 0-5 start. Some predicted an 1-4 start. I predicted a 2-3 start so I’m only down by 1 at this point and needing that Rams game. I suppose they’ll make up for it along the way, or go 7-9.

  113. Buc1987 Says:

Defense Rules….see my post and throw yours away. Nice try though. Had they beaten the Rams there is no regression. I don’t think there is to begin with.

You can’t reason with a guy that was out for Koetters head from the get go. Not at this stage of the season anyways. He apparently predicted the Bucs would beat the Super Bowl champs.

Here I rest my case :

    This was BEFORE the game.

    813bucboi Says:

“@joe….look what smitty has to work with at cb…grimes and VHG….Lovie would’ve killed to have those 2…he had jude and verner…lol”

“lol….stop with the tougher schedule excuse….people are making it seem like we play half our schedule vs playoff teams….last year we played 3…this year we play 5….it aint a big jump in competition….plus a couple of those teams might not make it back so it could end up being the same amount of playoff teams we played last year(redskins, texans,)….”

  114. Defense Rules Says:

Buc1987 … I see your point. I guess some just have this thing for revolving doors.

  115. sho nuff Says:

the culture of dumb lives on through Jameis inspired by Lovie….draft tough and smart….

  116. Bucs Ace Says:

Jameis does appear to have an exaggerated wind up and release on the ball, which does give a wiley A- Hole like Talib time to react to where the ball will be delivered. Anybody out there remember Byron Leftwich !!!????

  117. Dexter Says:

Jameis is so rootless no fear attitude every team is turning up the heat with blitz because they know if jameis get rolling it will be a long day for the defense jameis don’t have a lot of options to work with the coaches know that jameis throw to picks and score still 14-7 jameis didn’t lose this game jameis don’t play defense we are throwing at one person to much now defense know that when jameis was at Florida state he had receivers that can stretch the field they always in the right spot

  118. Shane Marco Says:

Still waiting to hear how interceptions in college don’t =interceptions in th NFL. That was a cute argument way back when.

  119. JarvisMoss Says:

The biggest debate I’m having with myself is if even Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees, or Tom Brady would be faring much better than Winston right now. Maybe they’d have a few more completions & a few less turnovers, but they certainly wouldn’t be able to carry a team with some extraordinary deficiencies:

    1) NO DEFENSE AT ALL. PERIOD
    2) A coaching staff that is somehow far worse than last year’s
    3) NO RUNNING GAME (without Martin)
    4) Special teams that are anything but special
    5) Only one truly great receiver option in Evans (which is why Winston is constantly trying to force the ball to him I guess)

If I’m Jameis, I fake an injury and ask to be traded. This franchise is a joke. Even when they had a HOF coach in Dungy they ran him out of town.

  120. nate12345 Says:

Blame joe for getting us all pumped up about these bucs.. i think we shouldnt say anything kind about this team until they produce a winning record!
