  1. Defense Rules Says:

@Ira … “Jameis Winston is taking too much heat. Problems go way beyond #3.”
Agree, but … Jameis IS the starting QB of the Bucs. Jameis IS the proclaimed leader of the offense. Jameis’ mistakes (INTs, fumbles) ARE a primary reason why the defense has given up so many points and why the offense has scored so few pts. Too much heat? Please. Yes, the Bucs problems go way beyond #3, but … he’s magnified them a bunch by his play in these last 3 games. He’s young and he’s not good enough to carry the team. Not yet. Despite that, Bucs could be (and should have been) 2-2 at this point and everyone would be having a different discussion. As for Carolina, they’re beatable, but … only if the Bucs bring their A-game. And that starts with Jameis playing a LOT better than he has been, and especially not turning the ball over.

  2. Bama Rich Says:

I know everyone hates Lovie but I have to give him credit for studying and conquering 2 out of 3 teams in the division.

  3. Kevin Says:

I agree on Vjax, the odds of him being his old self are slim. I would really like to see Cecil Shorts rotate between outside and slot across from Evans. His speed would really.open up the middle of the field. Only reason he never stuck wiyh a team was his injury history. Hes healthy and hes a buc he needs to be on the field.

  4. D-Rome Says:

It’s already a lost season guys. This season’s failure falls at the feet of the Glazers and Jason Licht.

  5. Tampabaybucfan Says:

As for the ratings…..NFL rules have made the game less interesting. Sure, safety is important….but the constant penalties for hitting……the kickoffs are now boring….no celebrations…..the “No Fun League”

  6. unbelievable Says:

    @bama rich, conquered?

We swept Atlanta last season, they swept us the year before. (40+ points by half time and 3 TDs from Devin Hester ring a bell???) New orleans we went 1-1 with and the Panthers have owned us every year…

Anyways, the game is less interesting for sure, because the new rules and amount of flags and penalties slows the game down far too much. You already have 25 second delay in between every 5 – 10 seconds of actual playing time.

As for our Bucs, if we were a bit healthier I would say we’d have a good chance of winning, but this team is the walking wounded already. Could be winnable, but going to be tough.

Winston will have to be sharp, no turnovers, short passes to Hump, Brate, and Evans to get him going early, and we need Rodgers giving us a run game. LBs need to blitz and hit Cam early and often.

  7. Stpetebucsfan Says:

Ira and the rest are not seeing the forest for the trees.

If DK and the Bucs win their next 6 games and finish 7-9 by losing their final six games in a row…DK will be on the hot seat.

If they win six games with four of them in a row to finish the year all will be optimism in Buc’s land.

Chucky got fired after going 0 for December. His team was on pace to make the playoffs before the collapse,

  8. Mike Johnson Says:

Please guys please! You think the Bucs are gonna tip toe into Charlotte, NC and waltz right out with a win? I gamble with football pools a lot..very successful I might add. I evaluate opposition carefully. Not..hopefully. Even if Carolina starts a backup QB, won’t matter. He’ll torch the hell out of us..as he..usually does. We need McCoy and Martin to mount an all out assault. Or..Jameis has got to be..am near perfect. Sooooo, I got the Panthers rollin guys. Their defense will play well. Better than ours. Sorry, I calls’em..likes I sees’em!

  9. JonBuc Says:

It bears repeating ( since I’m mostly negative about this current team…except for Anger…can he kick FGs?! ) that the addition of Ira has been money. A great, fair balanced perspective. Good job, Joes.

Totally agree on all you mention.

I’ll also include institutionalized Political Correctness and the entire disrespect for the national anthem. Those might play well in some demos, but the alienation of other demos, a large group, is clearly apparent.

IMO, the ratings aren’t down because of poor matchups or the election, the numbers are down because the NFL has driven many away.

I have to admit, as a third-generation player, former coach & huge fan that my interest has been waning for a few years, and not because of the sorry state of the Bucs.

It’s the product on the field. The diminished practice time from the new CBA leads to teams being less prepared, and players being soft. The results in a sloppier game on the field.

Coupled with that, is the terrible officiating. It’s frustrating when watching other teams, let alone my own. There is no consistency in how penalties are called between different refs, which is only amplified with the addition of all the new rules every year to help offense and hurt defense.

The product on the field is simply sub-bar to what it used to be, and the biggest culprit is a complete lack of any consistency in how games are officiated.

  12. unbelievable Says:

    @tbbf,

speaking of the “no fun league”, I watched a player get a taunting penalty tonight for flexing his biceps after a run. Yup.

  14. orlbucfan Says:

I have been complaining about the refs for years. I only follow the Bucs, but the officiating has been beyond incompetent. The musical chairs w/the HCs is getting REAL old!! 5 of them including Gruden’s canning since 2009. Would a good young player want to deal w/it? Would you?

No doubt that’s part of it. I can only relate to my experience, no OTA’s, but a long, brutal training camp with three weeks of two-a-days. Football Groundhog Day except with blood, sweat and insecurity.

I read a survey/poll of the valued 18-49 demo (kinda funny I’m no longer valued) that showed a full 32% are negatively affected by the Kaepernick/anti-cop behavior of NFL players. That is a very large number. 53% said no effect.

David Burge’s (@ IowaHawk, a funny guy) on the low NFL Ratings, and, honestly, makes a lot of sense:

    1. Identify a respected institution.
    2. Kill it.
    3. Skin it.
    4. Wear its carcass as a skin suit, while demanding respect.

IMO, it all goes along with the general emasculation of our culture. Boys: Bad. Male competitiveness: bad. Sports Violence: bad. Therefore football: bad.

    We’re only seeing the beginning.
