Don’t blame Panthers backup QB Derek Anderson for two interceptions against the Bucs, explains a noted NFL film guru.

Greg Cosell, NFL Films senior producer for the past 30 years, was chatting on 610 AM in Charlotte last week about all things Bucs-Panthers.

Of course, Cosell dove into the two picks tossed by Anderson on Monday Night Football.

The first one, punched in the air by cornerback Vernon Hargreaves and grabbed by linebacker Daryl Smith, was no Anderson screwup. The reality, Cosell said, was Hargreaves winning against a stud receiver seven inches taller than him.

“The first interception came on a basic curl-flat concept to the boundary, and he threw the curl to [Kelvin] Benjamin counting on his big body to shield the much smaller Hargreaves,” Cosell said. “So the result of the play looked like a force, but he was counting on the big body to shield the small body. You know, like a box-out in basketball.”

What makes this all especially great is Hargreaves winning like this in the face of the pre-draft chatter that he was too short at 5-10.

    Speaking for Pablo

“Pablo knows that grande is better than pequena…….Pablo knows size matters…..Pablo and Haboo have elongated arcs……that’s better than small arcs….”peyronie’s”…..so Pablo says if you have a small arc….that’s not good.”

Said it all along this kid is going to be great. He will make mistakes as all rookies do. But he has that IT factor and I’m so happy our GM didn’t listen to a lot of the posters on here or we would’ve never had him lol. Can’t wait to watch him developed into a world class DB!

Its not the size of the dog in the fight, its size of the fight in the dog.

There has been small corners since the dawn of football. And WRs have always been a taller breed compared to DBs. It is very rare that a qb can fit the ball in that extra 6 inch spot that a short CB couldnt possible reach. Peyton manning and tom brady can do it quite a bit, but for any other qb it makes no difference.

    Best DB in the draft.
