2016 Is Over For Charles Sims

Done

Now the Bucs are down the three running backs they planned to use to the start the 2016 season.

First, veteran No. 3 running back Mike James was injured late in the preseason and released.

Next, it was Doug Martin popping a hamstring in Week 2 and not practicing since.

And now it’s Charles Sims, placed on injured reserve with a knee injury.

Wow!

It’s the Jacquizz Rodgers show tonight, folks.

Sims, the Bucs’ third-round pick in 2014, has now had serious injuries in two of his first three seasons. Wacky year for Sims, who went from electric star of opening day to a guy who couldn’t a hole. And when he did find one, he danced too much before he hit it.

  1. Tampa Bay Tailgater Says:

The uphill climb out of this hole just got much deeper, Yikes!! It’s hard to stay positive but we knew he wouldn’t be playing tonight and Doug will be back after the bi…please stay healthy, Doug!

  2. tmaxcon Says:

Maybe that soft ass protect the players first mentality bucs have is back firing again. You can’t go into the season not in football shape or injuries are going to happen between the wussified CBA and practicing and coaching scared you will have more injuries… You must hit in practice and training camp… Bubble wrap pansy crowd this is what happens when you over protect players

  3. Joe Says:

Maybe that soft ass protect the players first mentality bucs have is back firing again.

    That’s what Joe is thinking.

  4. tmaxcon Says:

    Tampa Bay Tailgater

Doug ain’t coming back… He will milk that hammy all year in and out of lineup until Licht has enough and It’s his fragile ass

  5. DallasBuc Says:

What was the injury? Was injury a bruised Free-pass Licht ego that transferred to his overrated 3rd round pick?

  6. feelthepewterpower Says:

Buccs have had the habit of taking draft picks with injuries or issues sustained in college…..think claiborne, sims, ASJ, etc.

  7. Joe Says:

What was the injury? Was injury a bruised Free-pass Licht ego that transferred to his overrated 3rd round pick?

    Knee.

That’s two out of three years Sims has been injured for a substantial length of time.

Lovie bragged about drafting him. Nevermind Devonta Freeman was there for the taking. smh

  8. orlbucfan Says:

If this game is a win, hope a few whiners/haters croak from shock! Go Bucs!!

  9. lurker Says:

“Lovie bragged about drafting him. Nevermind Devonta Freeman was there for the taking. smh”

will you say the same of licht if jameis flames out and the other hindsight picks they could have drafted instead?

  10. DallasBuc Says:

So this was a Lovie pick, not a Free-pass Licht pick now?

  11. GhostofSchiano Says:

Attention- Howard Jones and Peyton Barber. Tonight is your opportunity to become a star. You must rise up.

  12. Tom Edrington Says:

Well, this blows that “if everyone stays healthy” disclaimer I read in all the posts that had them at 9-7 or better. What’s the new “over/under” number?

  13. Mike Johnson Says:

Your’re either a good team or you are not. If we lose tonight? We are truly..a bad team. Better get a couple more running backs in here now.

  14. GhostofSchiano Says:

Stop the could of should of would have. Jones and Barber must step up

  15. Tampa Tony Says:

So much for Licht being a draft master

    First draft
    ASJ released
Sims hurt 2 of 3 years

    Second Draft
    Winston regressing
Smith a liability in pass protection

    Third Draft
    Spence is hurt
Roberto is a mentally weak kicker he traded up for

  16. Doctor Stroud Says:

Someone else has probably already said this, but Lovie probably thought he had another Matt Forte on his hands. Sims can’t stay on the field while Forte has been an iron man most of his career. He kept my injury prognostications from my air conditioned office at bay. Sims is no Matt Forte.

  17. Eric Says:

    The usual shot at Lovie.

Oh my what a double standard.

Can only imagine the excuses if the new savior fails to get to six wins. I am thinking that looks likely at this point.

But you never know, maybe they beat the Panthers tonight. I hope we don’t make their back up look all world yet again.

  18. tmaxcon Says:

    Eric

Nobody makes a backup look like a star or helps fund a backup qb retirement fund better than the walking human excrement Lovie “friends and family” Smith

  19. Kobe Faker Says:

We going to get justn forsett or did jason gump useup his srewup money already

    “Run forrest run!” Darcie Glazer

  20. Kansas95Bucs Says:

This is my first time posting but I’ve been reading this siteso hello to my fellow Buccaneers fans. With the current injuries I wonder if we’re willing to give Ray Rice a call, we need help badly

  21. DallasBuc Says:

    Jason Gump!!!

  22. JMN Says:

How much of this is injury, or Sims just being soft? To me, all that dancing he does behind the line of scrimmage is to avoid getting hit. At least Rodgers hits the holes hard. I am still sailing on USS Licht but if he re-signs Sims in the future I am bailing ship.

  23. D-Rome Says:

So this was a Lovie pick, not a Free-pass Licht pick now?

DallasBuc, how many times do I have to tell you! If the pick or free agency signing works out it’s all Jason Licht. If it doesn’t work out it’s Lovie’s fault.

Yes, that means J.R. Sweezy is Lovie’s fault!

Next year when Jason Licht is working for ESPN the Joes will look back on the Jason Licht era with the same fondness for him as they do for Rock Star.

  24. DallasBuc Says:

Eric- the sad long list of professional failures committed by Uncle Lovie as the Bucs HC is truly award winning. Let’s not act as if someone else is responsible for McCown, that pass rusher in chief Michael Johnson, limp tackle Amfomy Collins or how about barely achieving 2-14 record. Stellar coaching only can brag about all this greatness and so much more!

  25. Dee Says:

This team is not ready to win do to injury.

  26. DallasBuc Says:

Keep drinking that JBF Jason Licht Kool Ale Bucs fans…

  27. tmaxcon Says:

    Dee

The team is not ready to win because it’s made up of mentally weak fragile players that care more about camera crews and movie night than doing their damn jobs. Injuries are a by product of no hitting at practice and pampering players

  28. mike Says:

another great job by our GM jason. Take a fragile 3rd down back in the 3rd round. A 3rd down back cant be a back up, they can only be that flashy quick, catch the ball out of the backfield type. And of course our GM never bothered to get a true back up rb. Would have been nice to grab jay howard in the 4th round this yr, oh wait we traded that pick.

  29. Tampa Bay Tailgater Says:

Lots of talk about injuries but the Panthers have a depleted secondary and we have a good QB. Panthers have an injure O-Line as well.

    You never know…Stay positive TB.

    Go Bucs!

  30. Trubucfan22 Says:

How did he go from “doubtful” to injured reserve in 2 days?

Injuries are annoying, but I don’t think practicing in the morning instead of high noon has caused the injury bug. Koetter tried to do something different, maybe it didn’t work. Maybe it did,but bad luck bucs strike again.

I think is kind of a good thing though. I think Rodgers is a better running back than sims. Now Rodgers will be the man today, which gives me hope we can move the ball on the ground at least a little bit. And Rodgers will be the change of pace to Doug Martin when he comes back from his hammy. See ya twinkle toes.

  31. Trubucfan22 Says:

So a sprained ankle, because some lineman jumped on your ankle, is a product of the lack of hitting in practice?

Thanks doc, I had no idea.

  32. canadian bucsfan Says:

Mike James is expected to be on the lions 53 man roster and they expect him to get a considerable amount of playing time next game. That’s a pi$$off!!

  33. LakelandBuc Says:

I will give Jason Licht credit for getting us a Top-10 pick every year, in the 2017 draft, we may get a Top-3 pick. Where is Jason Licht ? you only see his stupid face , after the Bucs have won a game. I guess we might see his face twice more this year. He’s going to let Dirk Koetter and the coaching staff take all of the blame for this season, while he suck up to the clueless Glazers.

  34. Trubucfan22 Says:

The lions must not hit in practice either. Their running backs are hurt too! It’s an epidemic!

  35. celly Says:

    @Trubucfan22…

    Don’t forget the Chargers.

  36. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    “a guy who couldn’t a hole

    Color me confused…

  37. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Sims isn’t a good feature back anyway.

It is what it is. Time to see if Vitale can run or not, at least in a backup role.

  38. ndog Says:

I just cannot understand all the Jason Licht hate on this site. I mean he has replaced basically half the roster, with quality players, in 3 years. I mean he found a QB, LT, RG, C, TE, MLB, CB, P, K, 2 DE’s, and a 3rd down back. It is not his fault that people get hurt. I mean you people act like an entire team can be replaced overnight by 22 all pros. How can anyone on this site question Marpet, Kwon, Ayers, Jameis, Brate, Anger, VH3 etc… I mean they are all very good to great pickups at important positions and he also might have hit on Spence and Ryan Smith but it is still to early to tell on them. I mean how many good to great players does he have to bring in before he is any good in your eyes? Or is the drafting of a kicker in the 2nd automatically make him someone who should be fired? You people are so shortsighted.

  39. Trubucfan22 Says:

Who here thought the bucs had a bottom 5 roster going into this season?

I would be willing to bet none of you did. So to say the bucs are losing because licht didn’t stock the cupboards is asinine. On paper we had a decent looking team. Not playoff worthy, not a great roster. But a solid core, and solid starters across the board. Our o line was taunted as a top 10 unit by joe. Our CBs were supposed to be a new strength on defense. On paper it was looking bright.

But now that we have lost against some top 10 teams, fans want to cry about the talent level and call licht a hack. But in reality, this coaching staff is letting all of us down. I was behind koetter and mike Smith 100% to start the season, but it is clear that they do not have what it takes to lead this group of men. Maybe they just haven’t figured out how to break through and really inspire our players, or maybe the players are just unwilling to by in. Idk, but there is definitely something not quite right. These coaches should be better than we have been thus far, and these players are also better then they have played. But something is missing.

  40. ElioT Says:

    Dropping like flies!

The Commish is correct, this is a soft, finesse football team.

This team is mentally and physically weak.

    Son of a bi*ch!!!!

    Go Sucs!

  41. Trubucfan22 Says:

Oh and injuries. These injuries are getting to be way to many. But that’s licht fault for drafting and signing injury prone players. Lol

  42. ElioT Says:

It’s really time to start drafting tough football players. Dude’s with some swag and and fire.

We’ve got enough undersized DEs, injury prone DTs, “Shifty” RBs, 220lb LBs, and short CBs to make you sick.

    F**k!

  43. Trubucfan22 Says:

What’s wrong with LVD and Kwon? What could you possibly piss and moan about those 2 for?

  44. Kstoges Says:

The fact all you guys care about is how this is a bad draft pick is funny you guys didn’t think he was a bad pick when he’s scoring mad touchdowns like come on he’s a very good player and now he’s hurt and it’s honestly sad you guys can’t rally around one of our better offensive players and wish him well for next year bc we need him he is solid all around and has no off the field issues like come on guys were better then this..

  45. cmurda Says:

It’s hard to judge what we have or don’t have on defense beyond D Line. When you have a solid O Line and D Line, then you can see where the weaknesses are. Our O Line is sufficient but I wouldn’t go too much further and our d Line has been below average. Hopefully, McCoy and Ayers can get well soon. This is where D Coordinators are supposed to make their money. M Smith needs to have an unpredictable defense and mix in some disguised blitzes especially if we fail to get consistent pressure with the front 4. That has been the case all year and I have seen a disappointing amount of blitzes.

  46. GhostofSchiano Says:

This game will be a direct reflection of Dirk Koetter.

    1) Will the back ups rise up (Jones-Barber) or will they assume the fetal position?

    2) Which Jameis will appear tonight? The week 1 phenom or the Jamarcus Russel Light?

    3) How will Mike Smith respond with his defense tonight?

    4) What offensive game plan will Koetter reveal tonight? Dink-Dunk-Run or post routes / deep balls?

The answers to these questions and more will be answered tonight. Those answers will speak volumes of one Mr. Dirk koetter.

  47. GhostofSchiano Says:

Who put the missing persons flyer of Sweezy out? LOL

  48. mike Says:

@ndog…he has most likely found a qb, and looks like a rg, and has found a mlb.
The jury is still out on most of the rest. He wasted picks for a kicker, he took a guy with a dui in college who was labeled a head case with a 2nd round pick and he is gone because he’s a head case and got another dui.
Yes brate is a nice player, but he’s a back up not a starter. He went in to the season knowing there was no depth, we needed 2 safties, and we needed another wr and he did nothing. His big aqution was to sign damaged goods who still hasn’t even practiced in shorts yet.
He found a corner… who? VH3 is 4 games in and we have no clue, grimes is average and verner sucks. Yes, he found a punter… a guy who was cut and is pretty good, which is what he shoulda done with the kicker postion.
Guy totaly blew the glennon trade… he trades him a week before we draft jw or mm and we get a 3 or 4 but he wanted more and over played his hand and now everyone know mg is worth squat. Also gives a roster spot to ryan griffin for no reason so now instead of having say an extra back up LB, we have our sack leader covering kick offs and he tears an acl. No denying one of his drafts looks good but free agency and other things go into the job. Charles simms was projected to go in the 5th or 6th rd btw.

  49. GhostofSchiano Says:

What the hell hand it off to Vitale.

Bucs selected Northwestern FB Dan Vitale with the No. 197 overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft.

Vitale (6’1/239) was a four-year starter at “superback” for Northwestern, excelling as a receiver with a career line of 135-1,427-11 (10.6 YPR). Despite his fullback profile, Vitale turned heads in Indy with a 4.6-flat forty, 38 1/2-inch vertical, and 10-foot-3 broad jump. His SPARQ score was the second highest among running backs at the Combine. Vitale is a rich man’s version of Kyle Juszczyk as a fullback-running back-H-back hybrid. Apr 30 – 4:52 PM

  50. tmaxcon Says:

    Trubucfan22

Lvd has been nothing but average since schiano left and was down right putrid the first part of last season. Lvd has admitted his mental weakness more than once. Players get soft when your leader on defense is a overrated bum that is more fragile than a Twink transvestite

  51. DB55 Says:

Why not bring in Karlos Williams?

  52. mike Says:

@kstoges… He was scoring mad touchdowns??? He has 2 TDs in 3 SEASONS.
I love sims! But he is a compliment back, hes a 3rd down back. He can’t be your back up rb because he can’t play every down. GM should of had a true back up and shouldn’t of drafted him so high. Certainly not sims fault.

  53. libucfan Says:

Bus needed a roster spot and Sims to IR just created one. Tired of giving up on the season in October! Find a way to win tonight…go BUCS

  54. lightningbuc Says:

Is there a better gig than being an NFL player and getting “injured” early in the year and getting paid to sit on the couch and watch Oprah?

  55. tmaxcon Says:

    lightningbuc

You should ask mccoy that question it’s his routine after all

  56. cmurda Says:

The Sims injury is unfortunate but sometimes light shines when only darkness can be seen. I never wish injury on any player, yet alone a Buccaneer but an opportunity does present itself. The Panthers are going to be playing pass defense and will be daring Rodgers/Barber/Hansborough to run on them. Can 1 of the backs emerge?

  57. Buccfan37 Says:

Good grief! The sky is falling.

  58. Defense Rules Says:

Bonzai, I agree with you … time to see if Vitale has anything to contribute. Dink & dunks only work if you have someone to dink & dunk to. Barber needs to get in on the act too. Maybe he’s got something to contribute if running behind the first-team OLine. (which by the way needs to step up big time for the rest of the season … right now they’re not getting it done). In any event, Bucs need to find a feature back if they’re going to have any chance of salvaging this season.

  59. DB55 Says:

Funny a couple months ago you guys thought Simms was great. Hmmm

  60. The Buc Realist Says:

This is terrible news!!! Will be very interesting to see what Carolina brings in a rush to see if any of the Newer Bucs RB can pass protect!!!! blitz pick up!!!!!

  61. Erik w/ Clean Athletics & United Games - a new 'Interactive' Fantasy Sports app by the makers of Madden Football Says:

I’m still hoping Peyton Barber becomes a star…

I think Quizzie can be successful as well…

  62. Chris Says:

Everyone was excited about that one td DB

  63. Erik w/ Clean Athletics & United Games - a new 'Interactive' Fantasy Sports app by the makers of Madden Football Says:

And WOW. WE NEED DOUGIE HEALTHY ASAP.

  64. tmaxcon Says:

    Erik clean

Come on man you’re a smart guy you know Martin is not coming back productive. He’s learned from gmc how to cash checks with pride without earning your money

  65. EA Says:

It’s time for some new guy to shine tonight, come on show the national audience what you got. Sweeping the division is possible, starts with a win tonight. Go bucs!!

  66. Brett Says:

How did they let Bobby Rainey go?

  67. CLBucsFan Says:

Jason Gump is an idiot for taking this guy at the bottom of the 2nd round. As much as the Joe is enamored with Jason Lichts drafting, the more I look at it the less I like it.

  68. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Brett Says
“How did they let Bobby Rainey go?”

    He sucked anyway.

  69. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

No one really expected us to win more than one game in the first five (no one with a brain), so why all the hate? This is what you expected isn’t it?

I sure did. So I don’t see why everyone is turning on players and the team at this point.

Of course, you have the crappy fans who are never happy (you know who you are).

Heck…go back to the predictions thread. See how many wins and losses were predicted. Outside of the delusional, no one expected better than 8-8. So…here is what 8-8 looks like.

  70. Brent bull/buc Says:

Why did licht let James go. That guy was a perfect backup? Proven too..

  71. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Says:

I totally agree with Bonzai too that Sims is not a feature back. In fact, I am not so sure he is an NFL Caliber Back at all. He goes down way too easily, and does not pick good holes to go through, nor does he hit them fast enough.
I am leaving now for Clearwater, to watch the game, and drink some beer with the guys.
Hope to see some of you Sockpuppets there, LOL

  72. Brent bull/buc Says:

@bonzai, this looks like 4-12 to me?

  73. Duke Says:

Instead of back up, why not sign a starter, Ray Rice. He’s available on the cheap. Similar type of back as DM, more reliable. Low risk, high reward.

There’s the P.R. hit, of course, but who cares it’s about winning. Winning is pure and ageless, Political considerations are always changing. Today’s poison is tomorrow’s cure. Rice may be poisonous today but if he balled and the bucs win, well he moves to the cure side of the ledger. And make no mistake this team is sickening and the needs to be cured.

Former starter > never a starter.

  74. FuNkYxMuNkEy Says:

We are in trouble now. Martin already got paid for this season so he might as well be on IR til next year. Gonna be a long year I hate to say. Jameis could easily throw 25 picks this year w no run game to help. Gotta love being a Bucs fan!!

Martin will play his tail off next year since he only has a two year guaranteed salary. Which is why I didn’t want to resign him in the first place. He should be playing in tonights game. If this was last year or next year he would be. Instead he is laughing all the way to the bank as he goes to cash the Glazer’s checks. I would be surprised if he even gets closed to 700 yards for the season. And that’s being generous IMO.

  75. FuNkYxMuNkEy Says:

    Close*

  76. LakelandBuc Says:

The Bucs promoted LB Cameron Lynch to the active roster and waived WR Jeremy Butler. Why not cut Daryl Smith, the antique LB that Licht signed to start. He have 7 tackles in 4 games this season and is totally invisible on the field. This piss-poor franchise is a joke, the laughingstock of the NFL.

  77. sho nuff Says:

mentally and physically soft team…draft men
