Will Run-Heavy Denver Show Up?

September 30th, 2016

cjJoe is seeking any angle to find hope that the team allowing the most points in the NFL — the Buccaneers — will halt the Super Bowl champion Broncos on Sunday in Tampa.

So Joe’s been soaking up Denver media, the guys who really know the Broncos, to find holes in the mighty Orange.

Cameron Wolfe isn’t sure which offense will show up, so he wrote in the Denver Post.

What’s the offense’s potential?

In their first two games, Denver leaned on C.J. Anderson and their run game to lead the offense. Last week against Cincinnati when the run game struggled, quarterback Trevor Siemian took the reins with a great game. If the Broncos can put both together, teams may no longer be able to look at Denver’s offense as a weakness.

It was the ground game behind Anderson (20 carries, 92 yards and a touchdown) that led Denver to have enough offense to squeak by Carolina 21-20 on opening night. Anderson had another 20 carries (74 yards, 1 TD) in Week 2, a 34-20 win against the Colts, a game that was much closer than the score.

Last Sunday, the Denver running game was impotent but quarterback Trevor Siemian shocked the NFL with four TD throws against the Bengals.

The Bucs play the run very well. Allowing 3.5 yards per carry, they rank seventh best in the NFL. If the Bucs’ run defense shows up, then that puts the pressure on Siemian, who is still an inexperienced QB on the road.

Maybe the Bucs will find a way to breathe on the guy and force him into some mistakes. Maybe.

Don’t matter which Denver shows up. They WIN. If you guys truly believe Denver is going to come all the way cross country to lay down for us..You’re kidding yourselves. Matter of fact, they’ve been told, We cannot..Will not let the Bucs surprise us. We..will be more than ready for them. Good teams don’t slight underdogs. They actually play better. Denver is a good team. Good luck Bucs. You’ll need it. Try not to have to many injuries this Sunday. Cause that pass rush is coming!

  2. DemBoyzFromDaBay727 Says:

Who is saying the Broncos are gonna lay down Mike Johnson?? I don’t think one buc fan is thinking that. And u sound like a fan from another team saying good luck Bucs, you’ll need it. Great way to support your team. So sick of these half ass buc fans. Go find another website if your not supporting the Bucs. We don’t need your smart remarks or 2 cents. Buc fans know exactly what they have comin sinday, no need to remind them.

“…If the Bucs’ run defense shows up, then that puts the pressure on Siemian…”

I think this is very comparable to the Rams, no? And that did not end very well. The Bucs do a great job against the run, causing teams to throw the ball. Unfortunately, that is when things fall apart. This is exactly like the Rams when we made Case Keneem look like Payton Manning.

no they will be dropping bombs over my head all day long!

  6. Defense Rules Says:

Well there you have it: no sense going the game. Mr Positivity, Mike Johnson, has declared Denver the winner. You’re right about one thing though Mike … Denver is a good team. And if the Bucs ever expect to be a good team themselves, they’ve got to start beating good teams. With 3 starters out this Sunday (Martin, Stocker, Ayers) playing against the healthy SB Champs, the Bucs certainly have their work cut out for them. But on any given Sunday … yada, yada.

launch David and Alexander into the backfield….zone blitz

Where is Nole on Sat. Buc on Sunday? We need a little bit of his positive energy for this week.

  9. Hawaiian Buc Says:

What makes Denver so good is they really don’t have any weaknesses. Offensively, they can run and throw the ball. They are loaded at WR. Defensively, their pass rush is amazing, but so is their secondary (both corners and safeties). They can stop the run and they can stop the pass. I don’t have any idea where you can attack this team. I’m not saying we can’t win, but I think in order to win we are going to have to be +3 in the turnover differential.

  10. LargoBuc Says:

This secondary can’t handle Tavon Austin, now we’re facing Demaryus Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders. I hope the defense starts to figure it out but it looks like it will be a long day for the secondary. Add in the fact we have no edge rush. Jameis is going to have to lead the offense into the endzone every single drive, which is alot to ask facing the best defense in the league. Im begging for this team to find a way, but Denver is the best team we face all year.

  11. Aaron Says:

I just hope we see a game plan on offense that goes away from attacking their corners. We can’t line up in 3 wides and run routes and expect our WRs to beat their CBs enough to win.

We need to use our TE / RB /…screens, mis-direction…take calculated shots if the plays are there…we need to win on special teams. etc..

DemBoyzFromDaBay…screw you sir! Support of my team is one thing. Reality is quite another. That’s ben the Bucs problem. RahRahrah,,I hope, I wish I pray..not me. I..Evaluate the competition. If we stand a chance, I say it. If not, I say that too. I don’t live in a fream world. I’m a pragmatist. pragmatist believe in what works, what truly is. No need to remind them? Please..don’t bust me Knees! I’ll say what I want. And you..cannot stop me there….Sir. You guys here want everybody to be cheerleaders. Well, there are skirts on sale at jc penny’s. Go buy one..sir.

Yes the Colts game was “closer than the score,” but it can be argued that game wasn’t anywhere near as close as the score would indicate. Colts had like 95 total yards going in to 4th quarter, while Denver had some ridiculous amount. Reality is the Colts had no business even being in the game. Well Anyway….

  14. Conte Piscateli Says:

Just a thought about attacking the Denver Defense. Yes I said attacking because you can’t let them attack you. I wish Martin was healthy. Ideally I’d like to see us line up with 3 Wr 1 Te and 1Rb all game. Put them in nickel D and run at Miller and Ray all game. The Broncos are giving up 123 yards a game. If you keep running at them and only pass when Miller is on the sideline resting you may have some success. This of course hinges on the O line winning against undersized D linemen all game.
