[You know better than to hijack a post with the first comment. If there is a question you need answered, you can always e-mail Joe. — Joe]

  2. tmaxcon Says:

    DB55

come on now man. you got to bring a better game than that… you have to outsmart joe and sneak it out of joe. no need for a monday announcement if he answers your question… think about it

  3. DB55 Says:

Better to release Matthews than Francis. I like Francis.

All I want to know is about Banks. If Jude makes this team n not banks I’m gonna have a major problem.

  4. DB55 Says:

    Sorry Joe.

  5. tmaxcon Says:

i think banks makes it. there maybe a surprise injury to one of the secondary guys or verner is moved / cut

  6. K2 Says:

    Banks over Robinson

  7. Buccaneers Says:

Yeah but what has Banks ever done worth mentioning in the NFL?

  8. feelthepewterpower Says:

Bell concussed last night…..he looked wobbly after trying to make a tough catch. Unfortunately that is probably the nail in the coffin for Bell.

  9. tmaxcon Says:

    Buccaneers

7 interceptions and 1 td aint so bad…. had 4 picks 2 years ago. that is more than a lot of 4th year corners and more than that bum from the cowboys sterling moore everyone wanted resigned has in his career.

  10. Dewey Selmon Says:

That was one of the positions I was watching. AJ Francis is the #4 inside DL Joe? The others are #5/6 WR’s. And LB’s I’m wondering if Keyes and D. Bond both make the cut. I think Bond can clear waivers and go to the practice squad. Not sure if Keyes can clear waivers. I like the both for LB depth. Thanks for the updates Joe.

  11. tmaxcon Says:

Bell looks wobbly as soon a defender gets within 3 yards of him.

  12. Bucs3 Says:

Banks shut down Calvin Johnson when he was a rookie… I was there.

  13. DB55 Says:

Yeah but what has Banks ever done worth mentioning in the NFL?
    ———–
Led the team in INTs as a rookie? Idk

PS. Koetter said bond did enough to make the team.

  14. Jolly Bucs Fan Says:

    Bell wont make the team.
My Guess is… Mike Evans, Vincent Jackson, Adam Humphries, Russell Shepard, Freddy Martino (Louis Murphy on PUP).

Bucs grab a shopping cart and peruse the waiver wire.

  15. pick6 Says:

kenny bell will be on the Practice Squad. Whatever hype there was around him coming out of the draft has died way down, but i think the bucs still like him as a project (deep speed & NCAA success as a returner) and as a teammate.

  16. LifeOfABucFan Says:

I think Kenny will get an injury settlement and that’s it..I really like him but there’s quite a few better players that can go to the practice squad..

And I really want to see KB and Keyes make it..Love Kourtnei and Josh!!

  17. Defense Rules Says:

DB55, I like Francis much better too. Another site had the Bucs keeping Matthews (268 lbs) over Francis (330 lbs) as a DT, along with GMC, McDonald and Akeem. Suspect Smitty would much rather have the big body for run defense. Francis looked to me like like he’d make a decent #4 DT.

  18. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Speaking for Pablo

“Pablo is breathing a sigh of relief that Pablo’s second favorite Buc (Haboo is first) Roberto Aguayo is safe so far”

  19. DB55 Says:

    Def Rules

    Agreed!

  20. Da Fonz Says:

I know banks has had bad practices but Robinson doesn’t look that good wen the lights come on he should be in consideration of being cut not Jonathan Banks

  21. Erik w/ Clean Athletics & United Games - a new 'Interactive' Fantasy Sports app by the makers of Madden Football Says:

I definitely would keep Francis over Mathews as well.

I would keep Robinson over banks if it comes down to that decision.

Also, I’d keep Evan Spencer as the 5th wideout and Reedy until Murphy returns (who was actually quite dynamic in this offense last year).

  22. Buccaneers Says:

I’m sorry but Banks has consistently got the beat in coverage whenever he has been on the field. In my opinion he’s been more of a liability on his team then a guy that helps us to do anything special

  23. LakeLandBuc Says:

    Jason Licht should be release.ASAP

  24. DB55 Says:

    Buccaneer

Time and date please. You need to support that statement homie. Banks doesn’t get beat like that. The only CB to showcase any ball skills have been VHG3 and Banks. No one else is even close.

  25. Love and Warrick Dunn Says:

    “LakeLandBuc Says:

    Is this a joke?

  26. feelthepewterpower Says:

I think Kenny will get an injury settlement and that’s it..I really like him but there’s quite a few better players that can go to the practice squad..

And I really want to see KB and Keyes make it..Love Kourtnei and Josh!!

    ———————————–
perhaps a settlement…but I can see him going to the practice squad.

  27. feelthepewterpower Says:

hope they do due diligence on all the receivers with the qb play, and the atrocious playing conditions last night…

    Through the first three games:
    Glennon/Griffin combined – 40 for 76 (52 percent), an avg. QBR of 54.11, and td/int ratio of 1:4

  28. Getaclue Says:

It’s easy to say martino cause he had a decent game in the most garabage game played but dude has been non existent through camp and the rest of preseason. Dye was light years beyond him. I expect licht to find replacements for everyone behind Jackson Evans Humphries and Shepard , if they can’t sign the guys they want and Kenny bell isn’t hurt he may simply make the team because he has more upside than the rest

  29. SB with Jameis Says:

Tennessee getting handled by App St. right now. No WAY the Gators lose to the Vols. SEC East champs again baby!

  30. feelthepewterpower Says:

Getaclue: I expect licht to find replacements for everyone behind Jackson Evans Humphries and Shepard , if they can’t sign the guys they want and Kenny bell isn’t hurt he may simply make the team because he has more upside than the rest.
    —————————————————–
my thoughts exactly on Bell…the upside is there. He’s is just raw, and unfortunately the QB play didn’t help him at all Not making excuses for the guy, but Buccs fans/media can get impatient.

  31. feelthepewterpower Says:

Could be wrong, if I recall correctly..I don’t think Evans had a catch last season from Winston in the preseason….I know Evans was established and a high pick, but that goes to show it can happen even to the best.

  32. SB with Jameis Says:

OH BullSPIT on the whole “Bell is good but needs time” argument. All a WR has to do is Catch the DAM Ball

  33. Getaclue Says:

I believe a bulk of bells catches with the pads off were from Winston. You can’t have chemistry if you aren’t on the field at the same time when pads are on

  34. Getaclue Says:

He might not put up the numbers for you stay needs but he was consistently beating his man and drawing pass interference calls with qbs that couldn’t get him the ball and in underwear football he was making plays but had Winston dishing the rock

  35. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Cliff Matthews being released surprises me.

  36. Getaclue Says:

Surprised he is still in the league

  37. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

After yesterdays game, I think we need 3 new WRs, two new backup QBs and more.

  38. Getaclue Says:

Honestly I wish we would sign Reuben Randle and get Paterson from Mn while we can get something for glennon then pick up one of these journeyman free agents as a back up

  39. Getaclue Says:

I feel as grimes Hargreaves Jude banks and Robinson have all out played verner. Those should be our 5 cbs. Verner has already gotten most of his money. I think he has been out classed .

  40. 10-6 or bust Says:

Check out the receiver billingsly from the lions dude has an uphill battle to make the team because the lions are stacked at receiver but he’s a gamer. He has shown up huge in preseason diamond in the rough they are going to try to sneak him on to the practice squad . He looks more natural than humpheries . It looks like humpheries try’s so hard and this guy makes it look effortless .

  41. FLBoyInDallas Says:

“If the Bucs release so-and-so and keep so-and-so, then that’s just plain wrong and so-and-so needs to be fired. I don’t know if I’ll continue supporting this team if they do such-and-such.”

This pretty much sums up just about every comment made this time of year, and all I see when reading things like that is “blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.”

  42. WesTampaBuc Says:

Did y’all see Tavares King tonight for the Giants. Looks like Odell #2

  43. WesTampaBuc Says:

We REALLY need to get one of the Cardinals backup WRs. They looked great and they can’t keep em all

  44. Cold Brews Says:

kind of ironic.. All I read is blah-blah-blah from that tantrum

  45. Defense Rules Says:

Interesting update Joe, but ‘Who’s Channing Ward?’ I know he’s on the roster, and that he’s a big undrafted rookie DE (6’4″ at 279 lbs is a big DE to me) but can’t say as I’ve ever heard his name mentioned even once. If he makes it as a DE, that has some interesting implications. For instance, if the Bucs carry 9 DLinemen total (probably the max I’d think) then most likely 5 of those will be DEs. With Ayers, Gholston, N. Spence and J. Smith being shoe-ins, that’d only leave 1 more DE spot. Meaning that neither Kourtnei Brown nor Howard Jones make the roster. Got a hunch three’ll be some very interesting cuts ahead.

  46. Pickgrin Says:

If Channing Ward did make the team – that means they are keeping 6 DEs and only 3 DT – and that Kortnei Brown didn’t make it. No chance are they cutting Howard Jones.

  47. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    Ward will play tackle.

  48. Dreambig Says:

DaVonte Lambert? Lol! None of us JBF experts saw that one coming! LMAO!

  49. Jolly Bucs Fan Says:

Who the heck are davonte Lambert and channing ward, don’t think I recall hearing their name once on any article or broadcast.

    Very weird

  50. mike n Says:

When did guys start getting informed they made the team? Seems weird we have 2 d lineman saying they made the team especially when we don’t know who may be on the waiver wire.

  51. tmaxcon Says:

With the fragile 3 being the top DTs on the roster they better keep or have imnediate access to a couple extra DTs to fill in when one or all of the fragile 3 miss time.

  52. Dick Butkiss Says:

Reedy has been cut per Greg Auman.

  53. Pickgrin Says:

DaVante Lambert?? Who the hell is that?

  54. mike n Says:

If the d lineman are in fact on the someone like howard jones will be cut and or there is an injury / suspension we don’t know about to a lineman

  55. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    Dreambig

DaVonte Lambert? Lol! None of us JBF experts saw that one coming LMAO!

Lol – U aint neva lied

  56. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    Concerning:
    -Davonte Lambert
    -Channing Ward

The very well could be on the INITIAL roster – but I’m sure that depends on WHO hits the waiver wire. Then we could sneak Lambert/Ward on the practice squad.

  57. Drew Says:

Bell probably figured no way I make the team. Faked the wobbly legs to milk a little buc cash.

  58. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    *they

  59. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Saw the Russell Hansbrough cut coming.

This is getting interesting. Jason Licht is trusting Hayes, even if it means getting rid of experienced players in favor of young players that have yet to meet their potential.

    Very interesting.

If these players work out, Hayes may just save us some draft picks next year.

  60. astrobuc Says:

@drew, you might be right. I hear this is very common . I do not blame someone for doing this either. This game is brutal, you only have a short shelf life. Get as much as you can now.

  61. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    @Jolly Bucs Fan

Although Ward is technically a DE, Defensive Line coach Hayes has been playing him at DT later in the preseason games. In that role, he was good enough to show potential in a depth role…he’s big, so I’m guessing he’s going to be a run stopper.

  62. The Buc Realist Says:

    @Buc Bonzai

Or Hayes has been told that he is not getting anything next year, because the need at WR, TE and Safety is where the draft and free-agency is headed next year!!!!

I will be curious to see who we dumbster dive off practice squads more than the ones that do not make this roster!!!

  63. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Dang it, Vitalle has been cut.

  64. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Bucs keeping 5 tight ends, choosing to go with Cross instead of Vitalle. Sigh. Cross???

  65. 1sparkybuc Says:

Reuben Randle was sent packing in Philadelphia for loafing and lack of effort. Thanks but no thanks.

  66. mike n Says:

Vitale cut… cut day not going as I thought

  67. sb_demon Says:

Vitale somewhat a surprise. Hope they can stash him on the practice squad.

  68. Cobraboy Says:

Reedy knee is going under the knife which is why he was waived, most likely waived-injured.

  69. Cobraboy Says:

Lambert is big, fast, talented, disciplined and a young guy with high character. Not totally surprised he made the cut.

However, the “initial” 53 and the 53 landing in Atlanta are two different groups.

Once again, the next few days is NFL Liars Poker, Part II, second only to draft day.

  70. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I don’t think Cross will be on the team after all the dust settles.

  71. JonBuc Says:

Vitale may have been Drake Dunsmored…

  72. Defense Rules Says:

LUVMYBUCS … Agree with you about the INITIAL roster. Both Lambert and Ward may be good candidates for the PS (I’ll take Jon Hayes word that they’ve got promise), but like you I tend to think the Bucs will be looking to add 1 DT & 1 DE from the cuts other teams are now making. Sounds like Brandon Myers made it, but don’t understand the Alan Cross thing (6’1″ and 235 lbs is a mini-TE to me). I assume we’re retaining Brate (who’s also 235 lbs) … those two are more like heavy WRs.

  73. Cobraboy Says:

Don’t be surprised if you see Sims play in the slot in 4 WR sets. He counts as also a WR of sorts.

I like the “cross training” of this team.

  74. canadian bucsfan Says:

With Dye and reedy out I bet bell makes it.

  75. LakeLandBuc Says:

More Jason Licht draft picks are heading out the door at One Buc Place.

  76. Bryan Says:

And that goes to show you don’t question the Joe’s……Brandon myers

  77. Joe Says:

    Brian:

To be honest, there was nothing during training camp that led Joe to believe Vitale was better than Brandon Myers. To use an NFL scouting phrase, he was a JAG (just a guy).

  78. Cobraboy Says:

    I didn’t realize Channing Ward runs a 4.75. That’s fast for a big guy…

Seems the team is looking for speed & quicks on D.

  79. Mike Johnson Says:

Great to see a few unknowns always make the roster. That means they want to play pro ball badly and gave it all and then some to. Make it happen. Good luck to these undrafted free agents. Once again Proving….Don’t matter who you are, you CAN come from the bottom of the heap in our society and do positive things. I tip my cup to these guys!

  80. Love and Warrick Dunn Says:

    “LakeLandBuc Says:

More Jason Licht draft picks are heading out the door at One Buc Place.”

So, you consistently diss Licht, but, defended Lovie Smith?

    OK,

  81. LifeOfABucFan Says:

Agree Mike Johnson…hard work pays off, no matter which college you came from..it’s the hunger in their belly that shines through..

Sad to see some of my favourites get cut today…UGH!!!!!!!!!!

  82. tmaxcon Says:

    LifeOfABucFan

I suggested on twitter to a fellow buc fan we start a go fund me so we can buy you one of those Life Size ASJ cardboard figures with the God Bod! He really enjoyed your God Bod remark the other day.

  83. DB55 Says:

    Joe

Now that you’ve announced it on Twitter do you want to go ahead and answer that top comment?

  84. Cobraboy Says:

    The initial 53-man roster.

    http://www.tampabay.com/blogs/bucs/bucs-make-cuts-to-reach-initial-53-man-roster/2292033

    Bell is gone.

  85. WesTampaBuc Says:

Nobody remembers Tavares King we had last yr. Ballin or the Giants. Smooth 80yarder. We sure can “F” up

  86. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    “Backup center Ben Gottschalk”

Wow. These cuts are completely surprising. I thought Evan Smith was the backup center? Does that mean he will get cut?

Why would they keep 3 centers?

  87. DB55 Says:

    WesTampabuc

He wasn’t a superstar his first few weeks here so he had to get cut. The Tampa Bay public demands pro bowl performances from rookies. Did you not know?

  88. DB55 Says:

    Bonzai

    Smith is a backup guard.

    Cobraman
Wester over Allen? , Lambert over Francis?, Josh Robinson over Isiah Johnson?

  89. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Oh, nm…Ben Gottschalk is OUT.

  90. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

If I had to pick only one guy to put on hte practice squad, it would be Dan Vitale.

  92. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I have to say…there are some real surprises to me there. They are making the team younger…big time.

Wonder what the average age of that group is.

  93. 10-6 or bust Says:

Jon Robinson might of thrown us a bone they are deep at rb and WR Sankey and hunter were casualties go get em groom hunter as vjqx replacement big guy tons of talent needs a role model and Sankey is a good runner hell of a lot better than mike James never looked the same since he got injured if sims or Martin go down our running game is done

  94. 10-6 or bust Says:

Before I get an earful due to hunters boneheaded mistakes , they just ditched dgb who is a stud hey want to surround Mariota wih proven receivers they don’t have one to coach em up I like what robinsons doing over there might be a sleeper in that conference should be good to watch with jax Indy hous

  95. 10-6 or bust Says:

Really disappointed about josh Allen I thought he showed up big stole the center spot from smith last year and he can also play guard hopefully he hits the ps

  96. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I suspect ASJ might get traded.

  97. Cobraboy Says:

First of all the roster is NOT set by any means. That may be keeping a few of those guy on the roster until the other teams make cuts and *their* rosters are more set for PS reasons.

The only real surprises are Cross, Wester, Ward, Glanton and Lambert, but I don’t know how well they performed on ST’s…

  98. tmaxcon Says:

bonzi they won’t get much for him with his public tantrums on tape and the fact he is always hurt. he is a huge risk with very little actual production. but i do agree he is likely to be moved.

  99. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    @Cobraboy

I’m sorry, but there are other surprises.

The fact that they only kept 3 RBs wasn’t a surprise? Or that they only kept 5 WRs when we need the help so badly?

You are right, this isn’t the final roster, but there are plenty of surprises.

They chose a DE undrafted rookie who barely played to replace the experienced Matthews. That’s a surprise to me. Most here didn’t even notice those names above during the preseason.

I’m not saying its a bad thing. Just…interesting.

  100. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    @tmaxcon

Who would have more value? Mike Glennon or ASJ?

I would think ASJ. Certainly he could get a late 3rd.

  101. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Props to Jason Licht for being unpredictable.

  102. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I’m pretty much eating crow on about 2/3s of my predictions, lol.

  103. Kevin Says:

Glad verner is here that would have been a dumb move

  104. tmaxcon Says:

Conditional 5th max for ASJ Bonzi. you tend to really under value draft picks in todays market. no one is giving up 3rd picks and up unless its a sure thing or certainly less risky than a ASJ type player who has both injury and on field concerns.

  105. Defense Rules Says:

Bonzai, we were both surprised by about 5 or 6 of the guys making the final 53. Especially Ward, Spencer, Cross, Wester and Lambert … none of those 5 really jumnped out at me during preseason. Now that those are cast, I like your projected roster above though.

  106. pick6 Says:

clearly some good things happened late in preseason games after i had tuned out….5 or 6 of these guys i flat out don’t recognize and can hardly recall hearing their names in training camp reports, and they beat out some guys who got good marks in practices and in preseason games or who were assumed to be locked into the final 53 (vitale). i’m guessing special teams was a big factor.

  107. feelthepewterpower Says:

DaVonte Lambert over Harris? Interesting…Alan Cross over Vitale as well.

I personally wouldn’t have kept Banks (see the Carolina game in which he was exposed often…Funchess td grab, Newton ran over him with a stiff arm for another td…..not all his fault though. entire team played awful), but part of that was lovie’s system…banks did well under Schiano I seem to recall as a youngster. Hopefully he can return to form.

  108. tmaxcon Says:

    LUVMYBUCS

Two words Justin Hunter…. Does he make to bucs on waiver claim and will Licht pull the trigger…. john Robinson and licht are tight so I am sure licht has the inside skinny on the kid.

  109. 10-6 or bust Says:

Thank you tmax I posted above potential vjax replacement kids got size and grab Sankey too he’s a good pass catching back hell of a lot better than James

  110. tmaxcon Says:

    10-6 or bust

do you know why Tennessee has issues with hunter. is a stupid coaches doghouse like Lovie is famous for his it major off the field issues. seems like a good talent to let walk.

  111. gilhealy Says:

I like that kid, Micah Awe. Looks small for LB, but seems to have a good motor. That lick he put on Wentz was sweet. Looks quick and instinctive. But, who knows?

  112. Rojas Says:

Hope vitale, isiah Johnson, Awe, and Elliot make the PS

  113. Bob in Valrico Says:

read that Jude barimah also made the team. Can’t recall any INT’s but have to admit he is solid physical player who will attack the slant and blitz.

  114. gilhealy Says:

Bob, he almost picked that attempted slant the other night. good to see.

  115. 10-6 or bust Says:

Yeah I know slightly concerned he stayed in the doghouse through the coaching change but think that could be in part that malarkey was oc for wisenhut I’m gonna keep my fingers crossed we never seem to go after the guys I want to add the big names licht has a bit of belechek in him always going for the underdogs the ones he can take pride in saying he discovered he definitely likes project players

Glad Mike James made the team, I don’t get why he doesn’t get more of a role, the guy is a good solid Earnest Graham style running back that I think can have the same type of long term career, one that took a while to get going but is solid. Should Martin go down the Bucs could slide James right into his slot and while he’s a very different runner I think he’d have a lot of success.
