“Tampa Bay Is In First Place!”

September 12th, 2016
mark-dominik

Happy for his old team.

You know who was happy for the Bucs win over the Dixie Chicks yesterday to open the season? That would be former Bucs rock star general manager Mark Dominik.

(Hey Ira, see what Joe wrote there?)

Dominik co-hosts a Sunday night show with Zig Fracassi on SiriusXM NFL Radio. It airs after the Sunday night game ends, a wrap-up of the day’s games. When it came to the 31-24 win by the Bucs, Dominik was audibly excited and lauded the work of defensive coordinator Mike Smith. Dominik said that despite the score, the Bucs manhandled the Dixie Chicks.

“The score was 31-24. It didn’t feel that way,” Dominik said. “I mean Jameis Winston made some great throws. I mean [Austin] Seferian-Jenkins made the great catch in the end zone. Mike Evans made a fantastic catch in the end zone. But Jameis had to make the throws and he made them.

“The Charles Sims touchdown right before halftime was huge because Tampa was likely saying, ‘We will get three points on this drive and be happy with it.’ No, Charles Sims breaks about three or four tackles and they had that extra four-point swing. That. Was. Big.

“Mike Smith’s defense – a little bit of revenge for Mike Smith and Dirk Koetter for them, hey, take that Atlanta – they really played well. The second half Mike Smith and his defense really calmed down. All in all, I thought Mike Smith’s defense really shut down the strength of the Atlanta offense.

“Tampa Bay is in first place! How about that?”

Joe thinks it is cool that Dominik is still emotionally attached to the Bucs, in a positive way. Joe knows others are not so much — including a certain visor-wearing, Super Bowl-winning coach who still lives in town.

And by the way, what Dominik said was true. That Sims’ touchdown was indeed hhhuuugggeee.

And I can speak for all Bucs Fans and say that it is extremely cool that mark dominik is now just a fan and can no longer do harm and damage to this franchise!!!

We all sleep better at night that the pop-star is just a Bucs couch fan now-a-days!!!!!!!!

    Go Bucs!!!!!!!!

  2. Tampa Tony Says:

Dominik is funny thinking Koetter had the loser mentality of trying to get 3 to end the half. This coach is scared and doesn’t share Dom’s loser mindset. So glad this loser is on TV with all the other failed GM’s and scouts

  3. Tampa Tony Says:

    Meant to type isn’t scared

  4. BigPoppaBuc Says:

That jump cut in the open field by Simms was so pretty… Made three Falcon defenders just run into each other and tumble. I literally laughed out loud at the replay. Great play by Simms who seems to be good for one of those every game.

  5. JonBuc Says:

Maybe Dom knew he was in over his head and was just glad to be part of the Bucs for nearly 20 years. Chucky will hold a grudge until he takes a dirt nap…just who he is…not sure I blame him.

  6. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Let me make this official…

I am eating crow, feathers and all.

Today is my birthday, and the Bucs gave me a fantastic and unexpected gift. I did not believe they would win this game. Let’s face it, the odds were against it. There were a number of reasons for this.

What they did yesterday is defy the odds.

The Bucs of the last ten years could not, or would not, have done this. The Koetter led Bucs did.

I’ll be honest…after so much disappointment over the years, it;s hard to be confident in the team. But they went a major step in giving me a reason to believe yesterday.

  7. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Maybe I should predict losses the rest of the year 😉

  8. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

A yo dushebag how bout you eat a mentally unstable @$!#. Thought you could slide that in around the 4a.m. hour and I wouldn’t catch it right. Coward.

  9. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

Bonzai I’ve been saying all summer this is different mainly because now we have a playmaker at QB. All those other years we hadn’t.

  10. The Buc Realist Says:

    @Buc Bonzai

First of all, happy birthday, may you have many in the future!!!
But, I love how you admit you are wrong, then say how all the signs you perceive, pointed yourself in the direction that you should have been right!!!!! You are making the mistake of applying past sins and transgression to this Brand new Regime!!!!

Did they defy the odds, or are they becoming a disciplined, confident team that is going to gel and become better as time goes on!!!!!

    Go Bucs!!!!!

( and I am still not that someone you thought I was on another forum!!!)

  11. Chris Says:

Buc1987, Jameis has converted me. Those throws, it more a few qbs could make those. It was almost Dan Marino like, with the velocity and placement. He started winning me over last year when he threw that bomb to Evans I believe, rolling out to his left and off his backfoot. With his attitude and ability , I believe we have something special we’ve never had in my 40 yrs of Buc football.

  12. Chris Says:

    Happy Birthday Bonzai.

  13. Joe Says:

So glad this loser is on TV with all the other failed GM’s and scouts.

Bill Polian is a “loser?” Daniel Jeremiah?

(Hint: a high-end scout may make $100,000. Jeremiah is working less hours, significantly less travel, virtually no stress and just signed a contract for $1 million a year and turned down an assistant GM gig. So he’s a loser for making 10x more and working less with no stress in his job? Where does Joe sign up?)

  14. Chris Says:

I hate Cowherd, but he is just yelling some Jameis love on my car radio , he’s talking about the wannabe franchise vs real franchise qbs.

  15. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

Its Famous man. Famous is why I’m so high. His ceiling has no limit. Famous is why I’m confident we will win no matter who the opponent now.

  16. Tampa Tony Says:

@admin- it’s a general statement as the majority of the media is made up of talking heads who are legends in their own minds. Polian is the exception. Dom’s losing record and awful personnel decisions are why he’s on TV not employed by a NFL team

Defend your boy but I’m on Ira’s side when it comes to the failed gm

  17. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

Chris just watched on the tube. To me he’s saying how come more folks in the media aren’t singing Jameis’s praises this morning. He said stop with Trevor Semian noise stop wit the Dak Prescot noise. He’s saying Jameis is the only driving the football down field. Salute to him for that. They praise the Raiders but don’t wanna talk about the over 500 yards they gave up to Brees and co. Can’t wait to play the Raiders so this league can see that team is not on our level.

  18. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

We will take a cross country trip to zona next week beat them. Afterwards they’ll begin to acknowledge us. No small task starting your season on the road in your division and leaving out the building victorious.

  19. Chris Says:

The hilarious thing is that how many people won’t talk about Jameis intelligence on the field , I mean besides you 87

  20. grafikdetail Says:

Falcons are a perfect example of higher ups firing the little guys to save their azz LOL as we can see the former coaching staff wasn’t the problem it was the front office… how many times have companies fired 100s or 1000s of employee when eliminating 1 or 2 lame duck executives with 8 figure salaries would’ve been more efficient?

  21. Joe Says:

I hate Cowherd, but he is just yelling some Jameis love on my car radio , he’s talking about the wannabe franchise vs real franchise qbs.

Pure definition of broken clock is right twice a day.

Have to ask, if you hate this clown, why torture yourself and listen?

  22. Chris Says:

Well honestly, forgot he was on and didn’t feel like hearing about UNC football on the other sports channel here

  23. Stpetebucsfan Says:

    Happy Birthday Bonzai!!!

We have you half way to our optimistic side. A couple more wins and you’ll be a true believer.

It’s ok to be skeptical…skepticism is healthy…sadly there is fine line between skepticism and cynicism which is not good. A skeptic wonders…a cynic wonders but expects the worst…a skeptic keeps an open mind and remains objective.

I’ve never seen you cross that line so ENJOY YOUR BIRTHDAY!!!!

BTW Welcome to crow eating club. Just makes you a good poster. Yesterday Tmax ate a wing or two over GMC…Last year at this time I ate a freaking flock of crow after defending Lovie for all those months.

  24. Broy34 Says:

Told ya’ll this was the year for it boys. This teams for real.

  25. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    The Buc Realist Says
“I love how you admit you are wrong, then say how all the signs you perceive, pointed yourself in the direction that you should have been right!”

You misunderstand. I was not the ONLY one who considered the Falcons the favorites. At least one of the Joes even did so, along with other local and national media types.

    Why?

    It was an away game.
Going into the game, the Bucs had lost 10 of the last 14 season openers. 4 of the previous 5.
The Falcons had won 8 of the last 8 home openers.
The Bucs swept the Falcons last year and the Falcons would be fired up for revenge.

Now, Realist, I don’t point these things out to say “I should have been right!”

I point them out because those are the things that were against the Bucs, even to the odds makers.

Pointing them out doesn’t say I should have been right…but it focuses on the reasons the Bucs defied the odds and expectations on a national and local level.

I deserve tons of crow. I don’t deny that. Stating why I thought they would lose does not glorify me, it shows how wrong I was.

THAT’s eating crow. You should try it some time, if you know how.

And thanks for hte birthday wishes 🙂

If this were a home game, I would give us better chances to win. But we have a couple things to consider here. First, the fact that it is an away game puts us at a slight disadvantage. Being the first game of the season also does as well.

  26. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

That last paragraph was the quote from my game prediction located here:

  27. orlbucfan Says:

Is that a Chucky Gruden reference, the one about the grudge holding, visor wearing SB coach? It’s going to be a real screech if the next SB winning Bucs team has a 24K offense to add to their great defense (a Bucs staple), and very good special teams. Chucky was supposed to be an NFL Einstein regarding the offense. What a joke that turned out to be. Yuck! Happy Birthday and Many More, B Bonzai!! 🙂 I’ve eaten plenty of rotten crow just being a die-hard Bucs fan for 37 years. Dominik always was an enthusiastic Bucs punter on the Pregame show on Bucs Radio. Licht is funnier with that jumping in the pool bit, fully clothed. Hope he knows how to swim. 🙂 Hope he has to do it next Sunday night. Go Bucs!!

  28. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    @Stpetebucsfan

    Thank you, buddy!

The other day I was listening to a radio broadcast, I think it was Joe on the Ira pod cast.

I believe it was Joe who described one element of fans that have become so use to seeing the team lose, that they have become complete skeptics.

I would say this…those skeptics should actually be divided into two groups…the ones that love to hate (or love to be skeptical) and the ones that hate to be skeptical but are fearful of expecting success too soon.

I believe I’m not the only one who falls into that second group. I want to believe completely…but after ten years of disappointments, I’m wary of doing so.

But that team last night…that was a different team. There was no quit in that team. And the win will carry them into next week, a game that will probably be the toughest one on their entire schedule.

I admit, I don’t expect them to win that one only, but oh my god, if they do manage a win, then there is no reason to think they cannot go all the way to the Superbowl this year. The Cardinals are the toughest team they’ll face in the regular season. If the Bucs win, then it is conceivable that they could win against any other team on their schedule.

God, I would love a Crow Buffet.

  29. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    @orlbucfan

    Thanks!

  30. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    @Stpetebucsfan

My thanks to you is in moderation, so here it is again 🙂

  31. Buccfan37 Says:

The Bucs won the game they were supposed to win. Can’t ask for a better start than that. A winning season out the box. Let’s build on this big win to kick off the season. Go Bucs!

  32. Buc1987 Says:

Joe…. Ira says he’s not a rock star.

  33. NashvilleBuc Says:

With 4 Minutes And change to go in the 4th, I was sure they would blow the lead, go to overtime and maybe pull out a W if we win the toss. My wife says “this team looks different. I think you’re going to stop them and win in victory formation.” I said “you’re right. F IT. “I’m going all in on this team and forgetting the curses and the snake bites and switching to cheers rather than groans. It was an awesome feeling to enjoy the last 4 minutes rather than biting my nails and covering my eyes. Great win! Go Bucs! Team victory in all phases. It is a new era!

    …and, happy birthday Bonzai!

  34. Buc1987 Says:

I already got on Bonzai last night quite promptly actually. Posted it on the game day thread and then the Joe’s closed it off right when I hit submit, so I posted it higher.

Funny thing is I never read Bonzai’s original statement on the game. I just knew he was going to be wrong though when I read someone else mentioning him taking Atlanta.

Just like he’s wrong about The Realist.

Realist belongs to JBF like property Bonzai. lol

  35. Buc1987 Says:

Oh yeah Happy Birthday young man.

  36. The Buc Realist Says:

    @Buc Bonzai

I applaud and accept your reasons!!! And know this, As long as we have seen each other on this site, you know I do not hand out positive comments lightly!!! Something is stirring around 1Buc and I like it!!!!!!!

As far as eating crow, I think It just seems that way because I usually do not have reasons too!!!!!
( I know one time I said that anyone was better right before Penn was let go for giving the second most sacks of all tackles. and someone kindly pointed this out to me!!!!)

    Go Bucs!!!!!!!!!!

  37. Pickgrin Says:

    Joe Says:
Have to ask, if you hate this clown, why torture yourself and listen?

Great Question – And I often times find myself asking exactly this if I happen to leave the radio in AM mode later in the afternoon on weekdays.

  38. William Walls Says:

Here’s the deal… Dom was a pretty good GM. Not great; but good. He earned the ‘Rock star’ moniker fair and square for making a series of out-of-nowhere regular season hires to fill injury holes that blew up into astonishingly good players, given that they were out of work or languishing on someone’s practice squad when they got the call from Dominik.

He was good at getting player signatures on team-friendly contracts. His drafting was somewhere between meh and so-so. He didn’t suck. Like most GMs, he had some successes and some misses, but he was good; like C+ to B- good.

I like Mark. He did a decent job for us at a job that’s unimaginably difficult. But I don’t miss him. I’m not stupid. Licht is a huge upgrade and I couldn’t be happier that we have him.

  39. Pit Says:

Joe’s crush finally can admire what he could never do,build a team that is.
    Rock Star of failure.
