Koetter Vs. Quinn

September 11th, 2016
Upper-hand on Dan Quinn?

Upper hand on Dan Quinn?

In some ways, it is a delicious matchup today.

You have Dirk Koetter, an offensive-minded coach who is all but broadcasting he will wing the ball down the field like Don Coryell.

Than you have Dan Quinn, the defensive specialist who made his bones building a Super Bowl champion defense in Seattle.

It seems Andy Benoit is laying his cash on Koetter in this duel. The X’s and O’s guru of theMMQB.com believes Quinn’s mentality is his own trap in facing Koetter.

First-year NFL head coach Dirk Koetter does a tremendous job with downfield route combinations against predictable coverages. That’s a concern for the Falcons given that you know Dan Quinn’s defense will often play a Seahawks-style Cover 3.

Of course, we will find out in roughly three hours if Koetter really is going up-tempo with shots downfield, or if the Bucs will lean on perhaps the best running back duo in the NFL, Doug Martin and Charles Sims.

Finally, the NFL is back.

  2. Mark Says:

I just don’t know why fans think we are going to blow out a division rival on the road.. I’m very nervous for this game, whenever we are supposed to play well we end up laying an egg..why should today be any different?

  3. Jolly Bucs Fan Says:

If the Bugs are as good as I think they are I can really see that score @tmax

    Bucs***

Division games can be strange, and often do not go the way it lines up on paper!!!!! I see both teams trying to establish the ran and more defense then people thing!!!!

    Bucs 24 Falcons 13!!!!!!!!

  6. LargoBuc Says:

Well yeah, Quinns defense is just a variation Lovie’s “cover zero” defense, just with an even worse pass rush than we had the last two years. Without an all pro front seven, like Carolina, or an all pro secondary, like Seattle, thee defense does little to play to the strengths of the average defender, which is most of the league.

  7. I'm tired and 87 is right Says:

What color jersey is the Bucs wearing today?

  8. Buccfan37 Says:

Quinn will likely make the Falcons better, just not today. Meet the up and coming Bucs breaking out all over.

  9. BigStinky Says:

    It’s finally gameday, can’t wait till 1pm. Bucs win 27-17 I hope

  10. Defense Rules Says:

Bucs and Falcons should both have pretty decent offenses this year, but on the defensive side the Bucs should be quite a bit stronger, especially our LBs. As long as we don’t self-destruct with penalties & turnovers, Bucs win 31-24.

  11. The Buc Realist Says:

Less than 1 hour!!!!!! This is where it starts Buc Fans!!!!! Atlanta is the only .500 team the Bucs have beat since MG8 beat the pittsburg steelers way back When!!!! Time to climb out of the Cellar!!!!!!

The Head Coach Koetter regime starts today!!! Kick those Falcons up and down the field!!!!!!

    Go Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mark, this is a much different team with a much different head coach than bucs fans are used to. You can’t use the failures of other teams and other cosches against this current team and coach. That is why we have the opportunity to be excited and the ability to lay an azz whooping on a division rival.

The chains are loose on this offense. No more milking the clock with a 7 point lead. The bucs have the weapons and the play calling ability to lay it on thick. There will be no more, “i didnt want to score more points” with this offense. I understand your cautious approach with the bucs, we have been burned nonstop for over a decade. But today is a new day, a fresh start. You might nit feel it yet, but soon enough you feel the pride of what this offense can and will do.

Bucs win or Hulk get angry. Nobody like Hulk when Hulk angry.

  14. Pickgrin Says:

Bucs will do both. Go uptempo with shots downfield AND lean on DMartin & Sims.

    The NFL is back indeed!
