“It’s A Good Day To Be A Buc”

Going to the no-huddle paid off for Dirk Koetter and the Bucs.

Your first-place Buccaneers, baby, had a helluva game in Atlanta today. And the first-year head coach of the Bucs, Dirk Koetter, got his first win in his first game.

Pretty heady stuff.

But in what has become an unsettling pattern under Koetter as both offensive coordinator last year and the first game this year, the Bucs disobeyed Koetter’s direct command of “start fast” and instead started slow.

What turned things around? The no-huddle offense.

“I would have to say the no-huddle,” Koetter said of the turning point. “We had to go to it. It was loud, we had terrible field position and we were backed up. It seemed like we were backed up the whole game. We shot ourselves in the foot a couple of times with penalties and those things we have to get better at.”

Koetter cited the final drive of the first half in which the Bucs scored a touchdown when America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, connected on a crazy 23-yard pass play — where it seemed like Charles Sims forced more broken tackles than the Dixie Chicks whiffed on last year on Jameis’ famous 20-yard run for a first down.

“It’s a good day to be a Buc,” Koetter said.

“It’s a good day to be a Buc,” Koetter said.

  5. Bucamania Says:

Yes it is! Man that was an entertaining game! This tea has some playmakers now. Go Bucs!

  6. Stpetebucsfan Says:

Does anybody have any stats as to the Buc’s starting positions today.

It seemed we started many drives from the shadow of our own goalpost.

  7. Jameisbucsfan Says:

Joe, your site is running very smooth today. Thanks for upgrading your hosting. In Jameis we trust.

  9. Jolly Bucs Fan Says:

I keep saying it. This team needs to start no huddle on the opening drive every game

  10. BennyBucs Says:

Seahawks are looking mediocre, so are the chiefs. All of a sudden the schedule isn’t looking as daunting as it once was. We need to get Vjax involved more and the defense needs to communicate a little better. There were a few blown assignments. Not liking how conservative the play calling became towards the end, we should have scored at least 10 more points. All in all, a win is a win. I only caught parts of the game from RED ZONE, since I live in Maryland. Can anyone tell me how Don Smith, Spence, and VH3 did ?

  11. Bucsfanman Says:

Tip of the hat to 9/11 victims and 1st responders!
Awesome! This is a good feeling. It got a little dicey there but the D really stepped up today. Kwon was ridiculous! I wonder if there will be any criticisms of GMC not stepping up in crunch time?!
Sims TD was pure effort, Jameis looked more comfortable, and ASJ made a spectacular catch. This game put my mind at ease. I can’t wait for next week!
    Go Bucs!

  12. Tampabaybucfan Says:

We had good play out of our special teams today…..especially our Punter…….he punted 5 times for nearly a 50 yd average….and they were boomers…..we covered punts and kickioffs well and Aguayo was solid.

  13. MadMax Says:

Great win guys! Hate I missed it (work) but I’ll catch the replay….cant wait! Especially to see Kwon possessed!!!

  14. Rojas Says:

I know this is too early but, FSU safety, ” Derwin James ” is a real stud and a safety we need. Also a WR.

  15. Eric Says:

Jameis threw some great passes after shaky start. Resilient that one.

  16. Kobe Faker Says:

    JABOO lation!!!

    JABOOWINS

Dear Jason Gump with the blue pimp suit

Clev is going to go 0-4 and tank the season,
give them a 3rd and 4th and get Josh Gordon…

Lets win the G Damn Superbowl this year!!

  17. R.O Says:

Hey joe(s).. How come no criticizm of M. Smith for running a Zone Blitz and having Ayers trying to cover Tevin Coleman in the flat yet was quick to whine about it when Schiano’s D did?

  18. unbelievable Says:

Yup that was a bad play call. LVD blitzed and their RB ran free.

Never like seeing a dlineman covering a running back. ever. That only works when you’re a true 3-4 defense and using an OLB on the RB.

Maybe Noah spence will pull it off in the future…. But I don’t like it.

Hope Jac smith returns soon we need his edge presence too.

  19. Dave Pear Says:

JW3 voted TOP PERFORMER on CBS!

  20. head ball coach dirk Says:

    Ro

Only difference is ayers isn’t slowborn and Coleman ain’t sproles

  21. Stpetebucsfan Says:

    Kobe

Are you going to supply Gordon with his weed? We have great chemistry on this team right now. Why bring in an undisciplined moron like Gordon into our locker room.

Are you aware of his record. Just go to Wiki.

He was tossed at Baylor…for WEED. I love me some weed but I’ve never smoked when it interfered with my career or work.

He had a great rookie season with the Brownies and then guess what?

He was suspended for the first two games of the next season…WEED.

He only played five games in 2014 because of WEED.

Then of course he missed all of last year because of…wait for it….WEED.

Do you see a pattern here Kobe. We’re not talking about one or two failures but more than a half dozen.

I think Gordon is an amazing talent! But the only people who should be rooting for Gordon to come to the Bucs would be Tampa ganja dealers!

  22. SOEbuc Says:

Yea BucsFan, Anger is real good. I’ve liked him all through camp. Roberto came through lookin clean

  23. Bob in Valrico Says:

Kobe, cut it out man, we don’t want Josh Gordon here just so you can achieve a”High” level of posting.

  24. SOEbuc Says:

Uuuuggghhhh the safeties sucked so bad though. I hate Conte and McDougle. We get a baller safety an the 1 or 2 rounds in 2017, this could be a shut down defense.

  25. BigStinky Says:

Can’t wait to see what we do next week, good luck Bucs!!!

  26. BigStinky Says:

Going to be a tuff game if Arizona loses tonight, either way I guess

  27. Kobe Faker Says:

actually last time was alcohol with teamates on the plane…no testing

funny im watching lagarette blunt blount for HOF bellicheck

    “who gives a damn” bill

  28. Tampa Tony Says:

This d still worries me and will cause me to be an alcoholic

  29. Joe Says:

    RO:

Not going to nitpick one play in win when the defense came through when it most counted.

  30. Trubucfan22 Says:

And to think, some people wanted us to draft Mariota! Hahaha his 2 turnovers for touchdowns were the nails in his own coffin.

    In Jameis we trust!

  31. Trubucfan22 Says:

R.O, i agree. That play should never be ran ever again. Who in their right mind thinks we should match up slow as heck Ayers with the speedy Coleman? That is a busted coverage every time. Please scrap that on Mike, there is no need to embarrass your d lineman like that in the film room.
