Bucs left tackle Donovan Smith

The smell of sour shoes, spilled beer, sweaty hands and bad pizza is a love affair for Donovan Smith.

The big left tackle talked about his favorite hobby on the Buccaneers Radio Network this week: bowling.

And it’s safe to say he has a deep love and rare stamina for the sport of the average Joe.

“I pretty much was born in a bowling alley, I like to say,” Smith said. “My mom bowled, my grandmother bowled, my grandfather bowled, my brothers bowled. So like, I literally was in a bowling alley through Thursday through Saturday night.

“You know, you couldn’t get 50 cents to play the little Pac-Man game, so you had to go toss balls down the lanes was the lanes were shut off.”

Smith added that he doesn’t find too many folks with his bowling passion.

“A lot of people don’t like going bowling with me because I’ll bowl 12 games, literally,” Smith said.

Twelve games. Twelve! Man, five is a heck of a lot.

Twelve games is almost the equivalent of a golfer heading out to play 54 holes, or Joe polishing off a couple of cases of beer on a Saturday.

I relate Donavan. A couple of decades ago when I was in between financial success…read poor lol…I took up bowling again.

First week of league I suckked so badly I embarrassed myself.

I found my lanes had a special on Sunday morning. One price for unlimited three hours of bowling. It was the only way I could afford to bowl 12 games and I loved it!

Love to hang with Donavan at the lanes.
