Gunslingin’ Jameis
September 28th, 2016When America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, came out of college, he was known as a gunslinger.
In only his second year in the NFL, Jameis has lived up to the hype. As far as being a gunslinger.
The good people at Pro Football Reference have interesting data about NFL gunslingers. It seems only one quarterback in his first or second year in the NFL has thrown more passes through the first three games of a season than Jameis. That would be Drew Bledsoe.
Drew Bledsoe is the only 1st or 2nd year QB since 1960 to throw more passes in the first 3 games of a season than Jameis Winston #Bucs pic.twitter.com/YViDuTI4Pf

Now this list bodes well for Jameis and warms Joe’s heart. Say what you will about Bledsoe, but when he was young he was a damned good quarterback. He got the Patriots to a near upset of the Packers in the Super Bowl. (Funny how Bledsoe played for ground-and-pound Bill Parcells. Talk about a coach crafting schemes to fit his players’ talents.)
Look at Sam Bradford. The guy had no weapons all his years in St. Louis save for an over-the-hill Steven Jackson, and the Eagles were a mess. Now, Bradford has the Vikings undefeated.
As for Robert Griffin III, who knows what he would have been had he never blew out his knee. Joey Harrington was a deep-ball thrower who was forced into a west coast offense and Joe is convinced to this day was ruined as a result.
So, just judging by that list, the Bucs have a quarterback. And with the Bucs defense struggling terribly and the ground game grounded with Doug Martin’s injury, Jameis’ attempts won’t decline soon.

I love watching Jameis sling the rock, but this doesn’t bode well for us getting W’s. Need way more balance in our offense. Doug being out is killer.
Having said that, I fully expect Jameis to throw another 40+ passes against Denver this weekend as we try to catch up. Unfortunately, their secondary is much better than the Rams so I’m expecting at least 2 legit picks (not just the fluky ones that Sims causes).

That is a very unusual statistic. Not terribly meaningful but interesting nonetheless.

We need more jacqiuizz run and pass
Need to slow owm von miller and ray at the corner
Delay draws can be explosive with sims and jacquizz
Love to see more running ays from no huddle sets
We need home field advantage!!!
Not the empty seats but the heat ,humidity and no huddle

We HAVE to establish the run game sunday to have a shot against that defense. If Jameis is forced to throw over 50 times again were not gonna have a shot at winning this game. This offense is built off play action. When the run game is is succesful, Winston is at his best. I def think Rogers needs more carrys Sunday. He looked better than Sims running the ball yet they kept giving all the carrys to Sims. I think it’s pretty obvious that Sims is not a work horse and is a complimentary back.

Balance. Gotta have it!
I like that he’s a gunslinger. But it’s just like the blitz; You live or die by it!

This is the reason why teams have scored 38 points off our turnovers. SMDH

LOL Joe – you are looking at this list as a good thing????
We are 1-2 because Jameis is at the top of this list.
Jameis is 1 throw away from topping this list because our defense is giving up too many big plays, because our all pro running back is hurt and out and because of Winston’s 8 turnovers in the 1st 3 games.
The good news is – all 3 of those factors are fixable and Martin should be back after the bye week.
The bad news is – we may well be 1-4 to start the season before we even have a chance to fix it…

scary to think of the throws he has missed.

This past Sunday his play reminded me of Brett Favre. His last TD pass to Evans…just like No. 4 used to do it. Jameis will get us there one day.

Jameis would have been at the top of this list if he was more accurate and had kept a couple more drives alive, and we would be 2-1. Being 2-1 is the most important thing about it though. I know, some of you are going to say he was 60% completion wise but that is just because of ALL the short passes he has thrown. And, he STILL misses some of them too. I sure hope for ALL of our sakes he becomes more accurate SOON because we are going to continue to lose if not. Bledsoe had 2 more completions but had 237 MORE yards, so he was definitely more accurate than JW is. ALL of his passes weren’t short to his WR’s and backs. I just hope Jameis can fix whatever is wrong and start to win some of these close games, otherwise NEVER any Playoffs for us.
