Enlightenment Growing

September 13th, 2016
Simple math.

Simple math.

Joe posted a story Monday about how Will Brinson of CBS Sports is beginning to see the light of the hiring of Dirk Koetter.

It is no secret Lovie Smith’s agent has well-placed sources with the folks who talk and type about the NFL for a living, those who live in Gotham or Bristol, Conn. So when Lovie was jettisoned, said agent began working behind the scenes to save his client’s reputation by pushing a hatched narrative of a palace coup and perhaps, the notion of Koetter being unqualified, which fueled the national outrage.

Add another national stenographer working for a major outlet who is beginning to grasp the obvious.

Jenny Vrentas of theMMQB.com has her weekly “Fine Fifteen,” where she picks the top 15 teams in the NFL. She has the Bucs at No. 14.

14. Tampa Bay (1-0): Jameis Winston’s four-touchdown Week 1 performance was exactly the reason they promoted Dirk Koetter to head coach.

See! This really isn’t rocket science. It’s common sense, for anyone with an open mind that isn’t conned by a slick agent and an irresponsible small sample size of two Bucs players reacting on Twitter.

Joe hopes at some point in the near future, Vrentas’ boss will understand as well.

A little off the pace there pal. Bucs fans see Koetter lighting the way. Now it’s time for the rest of the league to realize if you are playing the Bucs you better be ready for a hard fought battle. In other words, your A game will be needed.

  2. Gambelero Says:

Vegas has noticed too. COA suggests Bucs would have been 13 point underdogs playing at Arizona late (weeks 11-15) last year. Now 6 1/2, a huge difference in line setting parlance. For example, Vegas put out Panthers -13 1/2 on Sunday night. After Niners crushed Rams on Monday night, Line moved half point to 13.

  3. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

    That’s real talk 37.

  4. tmaxcon Says:

    Buccfan37

well said. maximum effort coupled with being properly prepared will mean long days at the office for opponents.

  5. rrsrq Says:

14 will be disrespectful after we down another bird, too bad the Ravens aren’t on our schedule. We are going to have a near perfect game next week though, but I believe it is in us. We won’t get credit until we beat upper echelon teams, Falcons may not be that good, but you beat on the teams you are supposed to beat “it’s simple as that”

  6. Love and Warrick Dunn Says:

“said agent began working behind the scenes to save his client’s reputation by pushing a hatched narrative of a palace coup”

And it was amazing how many bit, hook, line, and sinker. And, why? Because that’s what they wanted to believe. Why? Because they liked a coach more than a team.

    Be a Bucs fan.

  7. Cannon Says:

Did anyone read any press from Lovie’s first game with Illinois?

It almost appeared like a copy and paste article from one of our losses in 2015.

  8. pick6 Says:

meanwhile, lovie appears to be repeating the pattern in Illinois. An uninspired, mistake-riddled home loss followed by empty assurances that playing like a bunch of disorganized losers is an essential developmental step to some day playing like methodical winners

  9. pick6 Says:

lol Cannon, i didn’t see your comment as i was typing away….yes i saw the coverage in the Chicago Tribune. It was so similar to his bucs tenure it induced PTSD, and i’m sure it rang a few bells for the Bears fans who read it too

  10. Mike Johnson Says:

You guys truly..crack me up!! Its one game. Yes, a good victory. But its only the 1st of 16 installments people. If you think we are gonna march into Glendale, AZ on Sunday and get an easy win? You’re smoking Malaysian!
The AZ Cardinals ain’t the Falcons Buc fans. They actually play there best ball in the 4th qtr. They’ve been known to score 2 or 3 TD’s in the 4th. A 2 TD lead is nothing for them. I’ve been to that Stadium and its twice as loud as ATL’s and they always sellout. Yesterday, the Cards GM and coaches called out the players. They very rarely lose 2 in a row. So look for a tough nasty game. Now, can we win? Of course we can. But its gonna take double the effort of what it took Sunday.

I’m reading all the comments before yours, and I fail to find anyone saying this….

Mike Johnson, I actually agree with every word of that.

We can do it, but it will take MAXIMUM EFFORT. 👍👍💪

  13. Erik w/ Clean Athletics & United Games - a new 'Interactive' Fantasy Sports app by the makers of Madden Football Says:

Maybe not every single word, but yeah

  14. McBuc Says:

Dang Mike, lighten up. Enjoy the win. We were supposed to beat the Falcons. Why be so negative after a great on the road division win. Division games are never easy.

  15. Bob in Valrico Says:

about 8 players had very good games Sunday.Koetter and staff got the most from our players. And of those 8 only Ayers is a new addition.point is Koetter and staff were good enough to get the most out of players already here.
We looked like a team for first time in years.

  16. Mike Johnson Says:

I’m not being negative McBuc. I’m happy we won. I’m just cautiously optimistic dude. And I know the AZ Cards are a step up from the Falcons. We gonna have to be..Deeyam near perfect to win. And our QB pressure is gonna have to be fae more intense than it was on Sunday.I do think it can be done. I just don’t know if it will be.

  17. Stpetebucsfan Says:

    Mike

Take your points but why not have some fun and throw caution to the wind.

Have you ever been skydiving. I recommend it highly. Sometimes you just gotta know you’re alive. Rooting for the Bucs unabashedly and confidently will set you free.

I think every poster here has said we need a perfect game to win in AZ. But winning our first game…a division rival on the road has taken a lot of the “need” to win this second game. If we had started 0-2 with the Rams coming to town that would have put us in a tough position.

That would have created an absolute MUST WIN with the Rams because Denver follows them on the schedule.

It’s not far fetched to see us at 2-2 and if we hold home field advantage against the Bronco we might head to Carolina 3-1.

  18. BigPoppaBuc Says:

We benefit from the fact Cards played the Pats. If any coach can expose the weaknesses of a team its BB. Now we have some film… A little insight into how to beat the cardinals of this year.

  19. Defense Rules Says:

StPete … thought the Rams looked average at best last night vs the 49ers. Far as Arizona goes, they’re beatable … Pats took ’em out without Brady or Gronk. But yes, the Bucs do need to come out fired up and angry to compete out there. Not a whole bunch of room for error (penalties, turnovers, etc). Thankfully the Bucs came out of the Falcons game relatively healthy (except for Jack Smith unfortunately) so we’ve got a fightin’ chance. Predicting another Bucs win 31-21.

  20. Buc1987 Says:

It actually dawned on me on Sunday that this is Koetter’s time. He’s paid his dues and he deserves this. He has 100% support from me.

  21. Mike Johnson Says:

Stpetebucs fan..Ok.. I’ve enjoyed the win. So did the Bucs themselves. I guarantee you after the celebration on the plane ride home, Koetter and Co forgotaboutit. Matter of fact, I bet they started preparation for AZ last night. As for our team, every game should be approached as a Must Win..in my opinion. We will see the competition up its anty come Sunday. Just want us to be ready that’s all. Like I’ve said, we got 15 more installments. So I’m not doing a jig just yet.

  22. Buccfan37 Says:

Koetter for president, I’d vote for him. For sure 87! Ain’t we Buc fans lucky?

  23. BigStinky Says:

I think Dirk is going to be here longer than 2 years by the looks of it. What he did with a rookie is remarkable, and I expect more of the same this year. The defense will get better and better as the year goes on and will make all the difference in the world. What if we started out 5-0, how great would that be?

  24. BigHogHaynes Says:

Ha ha ha ha, nice win, big effort by Jameis, Evans, Kwon, David, Conte,’GMC and AYERS, why are you channelling LOVIE after a win? You shouldn’t kick a man when he down? It might come back and bite you in the ass!!

  25. BigHogHaynes Says:

There was no hatched narrative, the report was dead on, the coupe had taken place Coach K was hired as Head Coach and up untill this point he has been a great coach for Tampa Bay, game one we won, we doused him with gator aide, game two will surely test the new head coach but he will get no excuses here, show me what they are saying when they say we now have a real coach! Go Bucs!! 8 more wins to go !!

  26. The bucfan 88 Says:

Big papa buc I agree with u I think bb gave us the blueprint but it won’t be easy tbh but unlike Mike jhonson aka Lovie smith I think we got a good chance to upset the cards and if we beat them omg I think we can forget about the wild card and push for the division

  27. FIRETHECANNONS Says:

A coup would be firing belichek and promoting mcdaniels. Firing a garbage coach and promoting someone who actually knows what they are doing is not a coup – it was the right thing to do. There’s just no getting through to some of you. Lovie is gone, accept it or leave.

  28. Stpetebucsfan Says:

    DR

Poorly written post on my part. The Rams are mediocre on a good day. They are a team that we SHOULD beat at home…the only one of our first four contests.

The fact that we already have that first win loosens the collar a bit against the Rams even if we do lose to AZ. If we had lost to the Falcons and then AZ…with Denver in game four…the Rams would have been a MUST WIN or we would all be feeling deja vu.

I didn’t watch enough of that Rams-Niners contest to get any strong feelings but it does seem as if Chip may have turned that disaster around. The Niners could be a surprisingly tough team on our schedule by the time we get to them. This is why I’m always meh about strength of schedule…teams just change so dramatically from year to year…except of course for a few like the Pats and Steelers.

  29. DB55 Says:

    Ye of so little faith.

Patrick Peterson is my only concern. LVD n Kwon can neutralize David Johnson, Optimus and VHG3 can keep Fitz in check, hopefully. And I expect Mike Smith to send the dawgs after Old Man Palmer. I expect Palmer won’t last very long after Kwon delivers a few hits.

If GMC and Ayers can bring it like they did last week we will be 2-0. No worries, I want to see what the haters say after we beat AZ. Looking at you Mike Johnson.

  30. The bucfan 88 Says:

Db55 I still think Mike jhonson is Lovie smith lol don’t u gotta get your team ready to lose Saturday

  31. Mike Johnson Says:

    DB55. Yep you right…IF..I love that word…IF
And don’t look at me. I’m handsome and straight. And YOU might be…Queer!!
