The Bucs don’t have an NFL caliber safety on the team, that’s a huge part of the problem regardless of if it was a busted play or not.

If it was cover 2 there would have been a safety deep, that’s how it works. The safety either wasn’t in the right place or it wasn’t cover 2. Also the d-line was offset to one side and got no pressure.

Yeah, now rub those two branches together in your brain and see if you can start a fire… if you don’t give up a lot of yards but a lot of points, gee I wonder if that means you’re putting the defense in a bad position and giving the other offense a short field… Gee, lets see, did the Bucs turn over the ball a lot last year, could that lead to short fields and easy points? So first half recap.
The safeties for the Bucs are still terrible and should have quit football in high school, why they’re in the NFL is beyond me. LB play has been good. DL isn’t get much pressure.
There’s been almost no blitzing, most everything is zone in the game, Bucs playing bend don’t break – except for when the safeties aren’t in the right spot and they give up a long TD.
Offense moved the ball when they’ve gone to shotgun, got points on short fields which is always a must. Winston has been pretty good so far. Sims has been awful so far. Offensive line has mostly done OK, hard to know if they’re getting running lanes open or not since Sims is doing 321 juke moves before hitting the hole and causing the holes to close.
Still first half doesn’t feel good, but we’re winning, feels like we’re losing. So I’ll take feeling like a loser but winning on the field so long as we actually win.

Offense: Jameis is doing okay. Some high throws but appears to be getting better. Sims hesitates too long before hitting the hole (he likes to waste time stutter-stepping). Vincent Jackson is a non-entity. Mike Evans is running sloppy routes and having trouble getting separation. Cameron Brate is okay but getting virtually no yards after the catch, except for gimme yards. Aguayo was a wasted pick, does not even rise to the level of “mediocre.”
Defense: D-line is getting no pressure and tackling is on the sloppy side of below-average. Secondary continues to be sub-par.
Only plusses are fewer penalties and the first turnover of the season.

The Rams have a good defense – they were going to make plays. The problem is our defense gave up so many points and the missed kicks, they have made this a 2 score game.

This is a horrible franchise! The whole thing. It won’t go away so I will. I have been reading these posts for years and never had any intentions of leaving a reply, but I must publicly announce my departure as a Bucs fan. I can’t take it, my boys can’t take it. Football is supposed to be fun and the Bucs are anything but fun. No talent, bad coaching, clueless ownership, empty stadium, etc. Originally from Tampa, now living in Chicago, we will switch to the horrible Bears. They WILL eventually turn it around, like any other NFL franchise, except the Browns and Bucs. Good luck to you guys, I’ll always have a soft spot for Bucs fans….but I also feel badly for you. You don’t deserve this, nobody does.

Offense has been good today for the most part. The INT was a bobble, the fumble/sack happens but was quick, wasn’t on Winston for holding the ball too long. Tons of holding calls on the offense, and Sims isn’t a feature back, they can’t go into next week with Sims as the 1st down back, he’s great as a 3rd down back.
But Winston did his job today against a good defense. So that’s the positive.

What was that by Jackson on the 2pt play? No replay so not sure, but Jackson has fallen off a cliff. I wonder if they could flip him to someone for a late round lottery pick. However Jackson normally starts off every year looking awful then turns it up right when you think he’s washed up, so hopefully he’ll do that again.

Somewhere, Lovie is laughing so hard he can’t even breathe. Even when they win a rare game, it feels like a loss. The distance between them and the Super Bowl champions is amazing. Forget conference or even division. I judge a teams play compared to whoever is ruling the league at the moment. Unbelievable how far they have to go to even be considered a competent team…and yet, what are we fans to do, root for someone else? richbucsfan – It’s pretty simple, the defense has the same issue it had last year, no NFL caliber safeties and corners who can’t cover (maybe H3 can but he’s still young). So the Bucs go into zones to try to cover for the lack of talent they have in the secondary. It’s not a “heart” or effort issue, it’s a talent issue. Bucs have excellent pair of LBs, have McCoy at DT who is great, they’ve tried to give him talent on the line but really it’s still just him there. It all goes back to the safeties and the Bucs thinkin Grimes, who was pretty bad last year in Miami, was going to be our top DB.
But the offense has been impressive. This is a very good defense we’re playing and Winston has responded well. He’s had a lot of pressure on him which has lead to a few sailing balls, but he’s made many more plays. Winston to me is really showing a lot here.

Bonzai – They might improve some but the talent just isn’t there on defense right now. Bucs will need to win shootouts and hope players like David, Kwon and McCoy can make plays on their own – which 2 of the 3 did today. If H3 picks it up as the season goes along that will be a major plus.

Bonzai – With Brighthouse it’s $10/month as part of their sports pack – which you can have for football season and then cancel. On Fios it’s $50 I think or part of a higher tier. Regardless the price it’s so worth it, it made me have no desire to get Directv since they do such a great job of switching games and keeping it interesting. Find a stream of it next weekend and check it out, it’s really great.

Warrenfb12 – Run up the middle… it’s Jeff Fisher and it’s a key play, he’s probably the most conservative coach in the NFL in that situation. Anything that is 3rd and long is screen or draw, but since they’re near the goalline I think that rules out screen and draw since it takes too long to setup, so a straight run of the middle. They could try a hard slant, but I think that’s way too risky for .500 Fisher.

Morten Andersen, probably the best kicker ever, was only 2 of 5 on FGs his rookie season. His second season he was only 18 of 24 and missed a PAT from the 2 yard line. Kickers often struggle coming into the NFL, it’s why teams don’t draft them highly, you have to adjust to a different ball and not having wide hashes, plus more pressure – from the media and on the field.
Our kicker has not done well with the pressure so far, but this is what happens with a young kicker. You don’t cut him, but man if lets say he stubbed his toe and had to go on IR, I think you got a totally new kicker next year. You do not however want to give up on this guy, there’s a reason he was such a top pick, it wasn’t like the Bucs were the only team in the NFL that wanted him, he was projected as a 2nd or 3rd round pick.
Personally I’d find a way for him to “hurt” and then sign Murry back, then next year we will see a guy who is ready and will be here for the next decade.

Our safeties are terrible. Verner is terrible. Smith is old and playing poorly. The Rams’s offense is abysmal. We’ve looked like the Fighting Lovies for three games now. Bonzai – His only pick was a bobble by Sims, wasn’t his fault. His passes have been fairly good, but the Rams have an excellent DL and they put him under a ton of pressure on most of those where the ball went high, but Winston made a ton of plays. I do agree however, Winston is more Favre than he is Rodgers – obviously not to compare him to them at this point but just the style of play.
I hate however this cooldown. Winston is streaky and it’s hard to be good streaky when you’re cold – and he was white hot.

Man why in the world didn’t they spend a TO when Sims was inbounds – that made no sense.
Winston on the last play was trying to look downfield to keep the Rams back since they thought he could still throw, it was actually a good idea but he waited like a half second to long. No one was open there so there was no play – obviously didn’t know his offensive lineman had given up on the play and had someone coming from behind.

How do you people not see what Winston was doing – he knew he was across the line but kept up like he was passing since he was a dead duck when he was 15 yards out if the Rams players didn’t stay on their guys – what he didn’t know was someone was behind him. Anyone saying Winston cost us the game after he threw for 400 yards and brought the team back from 2 scores down with 4 mins left, come on, give it a rest.

Chris – He went 10 yards with the Rams players never leaving their guys past the line of scrimmage, they still thought he was going to throw – he got the 5 yard line and if the guy doesn’t come up from behind he probably scores since the Rams had only just figured out he was 10 yards past the line of scrimmage. It was f-ing brillant and it 100% worked except the guy coming up from behind.
