Time Will Make Jameis Better

Dishes on the four-letter.

Yes, just about every person who has watched a Bucs practice believes America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, will be a better quarterback this year.

Many point to his new physique, a fact Joe believes is blown way out of proportion. Some suggest the second year in the NFL will reveal a smarter Jameis. That’s got a kernel of truth to it.

Yesterday after practice with the Jags, Jameis appeared live on BSPN. “Jaws,” former Super Bowl quarterback and long-time NFL X’s and O’s guru Ron Jaworski, asked Jameis why he will be better this year.

Jameis’ answer opened Joe’s eyes. In short, Jameis said he is now able to not just study opponents more, but also his own team.

“It is very different this year.” Jameis said. “I am more confident. I was confident last year, but I am more familiar with the offense. I don’t have to spend two hours or three hours studying the offense. I can spend two to three hours actually studying watching [the defenses] and watching my team day in and day out and working on my craft instead of working on my development in the playbook.”

Joe never thought of it that way, but it makes a helluva lot of sense. Of course, there are new wrinkles and adjustments to Dirk Koetter’s offense. That will happen with good coaches from one year to the next. But with Jameis already having the offense down, he can now concentrate on both teammates and opponents, which he didn’t have time to do last year.

This makes more sense than Jameis will be better this year because he lost a pouch of a belly.

I dont know how detailed and complicated Koetter’s Offense is, however I still feel like this says alot about Jameis’ intelligence that he basically knows the whole thing by heart after just one year.

    Joe’s –

From your experience is it typical for a QB to master a playbook in one season?

Depending on the quarterback, not real common. Last year Koetter remarked more than once how smart Jameis is. Said he had never been around a quarterback that saw a play broken down on a whiteboard or video, and go straight out to the practice field and run it as if he’s run it many times before.

Most good quarterbacks can master an offense in a year. Or even smart ones. Others, it takes a while.

Time will do for Jameis what it won’t do for Stag beer…….make things better!!!

  4. tmaxcon Says:

Time will be a factor but Jameis will make Jameis. His drive alone separates him from 95%

  5. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

That drive that drive of his is what has me super me excited Tmax.

Koetter has said several times Jimbo Fisher had a more complex offense than he had.

  7. DB55 Says:

i think we’re going to see Jameis really blossom once the oline gives him ample time in the pocket. When he has time to get to his 2nd n 3rd progression the Bucs are going to be trouble for the division. They can’t hold all our weapons. He just needs more time.

  8. Buc1987 Says:

Jameis is a dream come true.

  9. Bob in Valrico Says:

    @DB
agreed,Tom Brady and Cam Newton misfired quite a bit while under pressure from the Denver D-line.Our o-line needs to improve on pass blocking for
Jameis so he is not rushing or forcing the pass. That said, most are o-lineman
will be making a major transition to achieve that goal.Hope they can get it done this year.

Time makes everything better. But remember everything changes too!

  11. Kobe Faker Says:

People cant confused when and what Jameis says

He said he wanted to be like and better than peyton manning and tom brady during the draft last year before he threw a pass in the NFL. Thats exactly what he meant

When you ask him a question, He will answer it black and white, to the point and he believes it 110%….

HOWEVER, There will be a time (3-5 years from now) If we dont sniff or get near the championship releavence…HE WILL GET VOCAL…DEMAND…HE IS AND WILL BECOME A SORE LOSER…JABOO WINS

ARE YOU READY FOR THAT TAMPA?

    2017- end of honeymoon

You just waking up Rip Van Winkle? In his past two games he’s complained about teammates not wanting/caring about winning.

@Buc-Faker …Is that a prediction? Or just ignorance? I can’t tell. He “IS” a sore loser?

“End of honeymoon in 2017”. Do you have a crystal ball?

“Are you ready for that Tampa?” in all caps suggests you’re a Jameis-hater. Are you ready to stfu everytime you post on this site from here on out?

Apparently Joe gets you, but I don’t and seeing how you never comment back on anything I’ll just leave your ignorance where it stands.

My crystal ball sees Jameis MAKING this team relevant and in short order. Yours sees demands and a sore loser.

    Yours is clearly broken.

  14. Tbbucs3 Says:

Prediction.. Jameis throws for 30+ TD passes this year!

  15. I'm tired and 87 is right Says:

It’s pretty clear Kobe Faker has a hidden agenda by posting random messages about Jameis under different screen names on multiple threads and is butt hurt that Jameis is a Buc. He/she is probably a dolphin fan.

  16. Kobe Faker Says:

Im a huge Jameis fan. In 2 years, He will be the best player in the NFL. “Sore Loser” means He hates to lose and wont accept it. I didnt mean about the players but he will soon want accountability in the front office if we keep losing for the next 3-5 years

    This team lacks playmakers

A GM that picks a kicker in the 2nd round and gives 12 million to a part time injury prone old WR in VJACKSON is clueless. All the successful teams/GM/FO in the NFL laughs at these moves…It doesn lead to success

we needed another rookie groomed starter to grow with Jameis when his game is developed and ready

we should have 2 young wr free agents signed with vjacks 12 million dollors to help jameis in his deveolment

we need an acculmination of playmaker talent in this team and picking a rookie in the 2nd round and giving a aged wr 12mill never worked and wont work

like i said. owners can sell the team, koetter doesnt matter, gmc & lvd

  17. Kobe Faker Says:

    sorry about last comment

It seems to me are relying too much on we are going to make the playoffs because its jameis 2nd year and thats it…we need better and alot more talent

Peyton Manning is maybe top 2 qb in NFL history. this is the list of his recievers/playmakers in INDY

    marvin harrison
    reggie wayne
    dallas clark
    brandon stokely
james recieving out of the backfield

We need more than its “Jameis second year”

  18. Buc1987 Says:

Oh I agree he needs more. The whole team needs more.
