Kwon: GMC Is A Monster

August 4th, 2016
"Blowing up."

“Blowing up.”

This is going to make the anti-Gerald McCoy rabble squirm in their seats as if they have irritable bowel syndrome.

While speaking on WDAE-AM 620 this morning just after practice, Kwon Alexander was asked about the defensive line. Alexander lit up and in no uncertain terms boasted how there is a marked difference in the defensive line from last year.

In particular, Alexander raved about GMC.

The defensive line “has gotten way better. Way better!” Alexander said. “There is going to be a lot of sacks this year. They have been rushing their butts off.

“Gerald is blowing up. Doing incredible. It is going to be a good season. Can’t wait for it to start. Gerald is blowing up out there. He has taken it to another level.”

Alexander also noted that free agent defensive end Robert Ayers and rookie defensive end/outside linebacker Noah Spence are like icing on the cake, giving the Bucs a serious edge rush threat the team so needed.

Maybe Joe has had a little too much caffeine this morning but Joe thinks the hiring of Jay Hayes as defensive line coach was exactly what this unit needed.

Wow I gotta admit gmc is impressive. Dominating in practice against marpet and Hawley. I’d better go book a room n flight for Houston now.

All jokes aside, this! Hayes don’t plays.

Hope it translates to all 4 quarters in regular season games

  3. dooshlarue Says:

Man…. I hope Kwon isn’t on ” the sauce” again.

Now let’s go have some fun guys!

  4. D-Rome Says:

TKras said it best the other day when he said “Don’t be that fan…”

By “that fan” he’s talking about that idiot fan who thinks the Bucs would be better off without Gerald McCoy. The Buccaneers are very fortunate to have Gerald McCoy both on and off the field.

  5. DB55 Says:

    Clap clap clap.

Now once he starts playing like he means it maybe he can trying learning how to play multiple positions like Robert Ayers and Fletcher Cox and a host of others. That would be so beastly and adds a whole new dimension to the defense. Much harder to scheme for him but then again what do I know?

  6. DB55 Says:

Rita’s can take third prize. GET OUTTA HERE!

  8. Lord Cornelius Says:

If dude doesn’t get at least 2 defensive TDs a game in meaningful moments that single handily change the outcome then it’s time to cut our losses

  9. Buccfan37 Says:

I don’t remember this upbeat talk and feeling about the Bucs defense before last season, although many Bucs fans had the team winning about half of those games. Looking forward the difference is like night and day. It is a breath of fresh air and this time around it is not only believable, most who follow the Bucs are sure that an improved and much more competitive Bucs team has developed and is ready to make some noise. Every positive article and fan comment heightens that reality. Not wishful thinking, but logic.

  10. Dave Says:

    The optimist
    JW plays smarter
And tHe defense gets consistent pressure ….

10 wins and possible worst to first.

Pressure still an issue and red zone stalling – 8 runs tops
I don’t see this though. Too much change in attitude. I think they get 10 and the defense gets to 40 sacks!

  11. Dave Says:

Can we ban all McCoy ignorant haters for a couple weeks?
Let them watch another team day in and day out so they can realize that mccoy is a top 5 DT.
    THeir ignorance is astounding.

Anyway, just a pleasant thought. A healthy McCoy with edge rush help- 10 sacks a year the next 3-4

  12. tmaxcon Says:

i don’t like mccoy at all. I have not ever and most likely will not like him his entire career that does not mean I want him gone. I don’t think any of the so called “haters” you reference want him gone. Once I deciphered your well thought out and articulate statement pertaining to the GMC haters is this: He’s is perfect with no room for improvement…. Which we both know is not true. First the term hater is meaningless second, wanting a professional athlete to improve and play better is not hating. Yes, I’d rather have a sapp player than a mccoy softee and no I don’t put as much weight in the community as some fans, I believe it’s the parents responsible to do their job and raise their kids not to make tv, movie and atheletes out to be these great role models and do the job of teaching their kids for them. so basically i could careless about him hosting moving night. I want him to play hard and fast all 4qtrs and be the best player he can be that is not hater. I don’t think he has achieved perfection as you suggest but to each his own. every player on the bucs roster should be pushed. pointing out areas they could prove on is opinion not hate.

  13. tmaxcon Says:

    ^^^ improve obviously auto correct.

by the way not everyone has to like the same players you do.

  14. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @tmaxcon,

I really don’t think you are stupid, but your argument in this case is beyond stupid. Your first 2 sentences already show that you are biased, which renders your opinions pretty meaningless to most people. If you wanted to prove a point, that’s literally the worst thing you could ever type.

No one is saying McCoy is perfect. That is you putting words in people’s mouths. Once again, doing things like this don’t help your cause. No one is saying we don’t want him to improve. That’s never been the issue. However, you and a few others seem to insist on repeating the same negativity over and over again with each article. What’s the point? What does it prove? Not to mention that you aren’t giving actual facts, nor are you a football expert. I’m no expert either, but I happen to be on the same side as pretty much every football expert you can think of. Unless you can convince me you have some sort of high football IQ that I’m not familiar with, once again your opinions are pretty meaningless.

Finally, calling him soft is just plain ignorant. Maybe you could have said he was injury prone after his first couple years in the league, but since then he’s been one of the more durable players at his position. News flash – his position is dangerous. People get hurt in the trenches. Always have, always will. Instead of him taking his money and going on IR (in a lost season none the less), he continues to go out and play week in and week out. He doesn’t have to do that. He could very easily shut it down, but the guy you call “soft” and “not caring about winning” and “only in it for the money” continues to play. It’s beyond ignorant – it’s just plain stupid.

He’s not Warren Sapp. Never will be. No one will. Get over it. It has nothing to do with him helping people up, or doing things in the community. Sapp is the G.O.A.T. He’s Gerald McCoy, one of the premiere guys at his position, no matter how many frustrated fans think otherwise.

  15. BigHogHaynes Says:

^^^^^this guy has a mental problem. Nothing but hot air, just like Trump!!

  16. Ashley D Says:

For the younger GMC haters let mention a few 1st round Buc’s DL picks that were true busts and/or disappointments/underachievers/overrated:
    Ron Holmes
    Keith McCants
    Eric Curry
    Regan Upshaw
Not to mention 2nd round pick Booker Reese who the Buc’s traded their 1st round pick the next year to move up and get. That pick was used by the Bears for WR Willie Gault, by the way, who played 11 seasons.

  17. DB55 Says:

thank you, gmc, for being so hard and perfect. You’re my superhero.

    Love,
    Jimmy Fallon

  18. tmaxcon Says:

    hawaian

once again you are reading way too much into and trying to assume. I was being upfront and very clear I am not a mccoy fan and most likely will never wil be. Guess what I don’t have to like the same players as you do. He is good not great and that’s fine but I prefer sapp style of player. i don’t care if a player is a chori boy in the community that has ZERO to do with winning football games.

as far as soft go look up how many games, quarters, plays etc he has missed while nursing one of his many injuries. you give him credit for playing hurt and that is your choice but to me he lost the playing hurt excuse when he showed up for a meaningless pro bowl game to get his tv time.

the point you are missing is the fact we all don’t have to all like the same players. i am glad you have a mancrush on mccoy. I am sure I can name 5 players I enjoy watching that you can’t stand that is ok.

When people defending mccoy make blanket hater statements essential they are saying mccoy is perfect and above any and all criticism. he is not. I hope he has a monster year that only helps my bucs. yout discount his numerous injuries and excuses is what is truly entertaining.

why do you give a crap what anyone thinks of any player. players come and go. gmc will gone in a few years and forgotten a few years after that.

  19. Kevin Says:

Hayes will be our next DC.

  20. Ndog Says:

So Kwon said McCoy is turning it up so that means he could have gotten better last year. That is all some of us are saying McCoy can and should be better than he has been.

  21. Dougy balls Says:

Explain to me how he was supposed to get better last year playing hurt and still got double teamed and managed 9 sacks. WOW. simply WOW. SOME FUCN PEOPLE

  22. Hawaiian Buc Says:

“Explain to me how he was supposed to get better last year playing hurt and still got double teamed and managed 9 sacks. WOW. simply WOW. SOME FUCN PEOPLE”

He didn’t have enough sacks late in the 4th. Didn’t you know that? We are not of the football intellect of the GMC hater crowd. Their football IQ is second to none. I’m sure most of them are getting calls to be GM as we speak.

No doubt. I don’t comment much on these fine pages but when I do it’s because I can’t believe some of the $hit I’m reading. But I do read every comment. I have to say I love a great debate but what the hell do some of these people smoke

  24. Hawaiian Buc Says:

My favorite is when a “fan” complains that he played in the Pro Bowl. It’s not like he was on IR, and playing in the Pro Bowl is about as dangerous as walking from the locker room to the field (although this year did have the first real injury in probably the last 5 years or so, even though it was a non-contact injury). Perhaps McCoy just wants to play in the game because it’s an honor (like how Peyton Manning and many others play every single year). Obviously ownership didn’t mind, but random internet guys mind, so it must have been wrong.

  25. DB55 Says:

managed 9 sacks. WOW. simply WOW. SOME FUCN PEOPLE
    ————–
8.5 sacks but what do I know?

  26. Dougy balls Says:

My thing with McCoy is when a team has to scheme against said player than that should tell you everything. When a coach does a weekly presser and says we have to neutralize 93. That should be a clue as to what you have lining up in the trenches. I just have to sit back and laugh at all the wannabes that know better. I personally will let the professionals tell me who are star players are by game plan

  27. Dougy balls Says:

DB55. Not a damn thing. But thanks for chiming in

  28. Dougy balls Says:

And not to be personal DB55 because I like some of your post but don’t help make my point

  29. DB55 Says:

    Dougy balls

Ty bro. Gmc has immense talent, arguably more so than any other DT in the league but he’s got NO heart. I can post at least 2-3 articles to support that. But now that he and jaboowins had “the talk” I think he will step up big time.

  30. Trubucfan22 Says:

Do people forget who was running the defense last season? You want to figure out why GMC had a down year last year? Do a google search and see who our head coach and Defensive Coordinator were last year. That will tell you everything you need to know.

Lets not act like the entire defense was awesome and only McCoy sucked. The entire defense, head to toe, was atrocious. Even my favorite player, LVD, had a rather poor year by his own standards. So stop trying to point the finger at McCoy. The entire defense sucked, and that had absolutely nothing to do with McCoy

  31. Buc1987 Says:

I want to be where Dougy balls is at when he hears all these coaches game planning for 93.

  32. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    ————–

I’m calling pure bullspit on this one! To say someone has no heart, you would have to at least know him. I don’t care how you spin what he said, that doesn’t make it true. That’s your interpretation you are having to backup what you already believe. If he had no heart, he would have shut it down last year and went on IR. If he had no heart, he wouldn’t have the respect of his coaches and teammates. Twist things all you want, those are actual facts. But I do love how you’ve already got you excuse lined up – giving Jameis credit if he turns the corner. I love Jameis every bit as much as you or any other fan, but give me a freaking break with that BS! Don’t think we can’t see right through what you are doing. I’m a lot of things, but stupid isn’t one of them.

  33. Hawaiian Buc Says:

“I want to be where Dougy balls is at when he hears all these coaches game planning for 93.”

    ——-

Dude, I don’t know if you’re joking, but it’s really not that hard to figure it out. You see, just like Tampa, other cities have media as well. Those media also ask coaches questions throughout the week. They are even able to put those answers up on this thing called the internet for the entire world to see. If you were to access the internet, you could go back and find quotes from coaches from every opponent we’ve played that will mention McCoy (usually the very first player out of their mouth). See, regardless of what some of our incredibly knowledgeable fans think, the guys that get paid to play and coach football have enormous respect for #93. That’s another fact you just can’t deny. However, some people are so stubborn and insistent that they see something no one else does that they will literally try to deny hard facts. I just hope they continue doing so, so that I can continue calling them out on it.

  34. joeblockedlme Says:

Hope he does not get hurt.

  35. Bob in Valrico Says:

McCoy is guilty of only one thing in my book. That is playing on bad teams
and for bad coaches for all of his career. Many people want to blame him for all the things wrong with the Bucs.past GM’s have made bad personel decisions
and failed to get enough talent on the D-line to support GMC.only fair to reserve judgement on GMC until he has the luxury of playing with talented players and has the benefit of good coaching and a good GM.

  36. DemBoyzFromDaBay727 Says:

Preach it Hawaiian!! As much as I love your will to try and educate sum of these knuckleheads it’s like beating a deadhorse. They know it all and u can’t tell them nothing. I’m sorry but if u wanna live in a world where u think that 93 doesn’t get any respect around the league and teams dont game plan for him then u obviously don’t watch enough football. That shows your football intelligence right there. It’s just idiotic to call someone soft when they battle in the trenches with the biggest n nasty’s guys on the team with multiple broken bones and torn rotater cuffs and STILL manage almost 9 sacks with absolutely no help from their teamates. U wanna call ASJ soft fine, but not a guy who battles all year with one arm and doesn’t complain one bit. It will be interesting to hear there whiney excuses when he’s going ham this year. I’m sure they’ll think of something.

  37. Swaggy64 Says:

There are not enough GMC loving fans to explain why he keeps making the Pro Bowl every year. Obviously, he must have the respect of the football experts and fans all over the country. The fact that a few local fans want to point out his shortcomings instead of celebrating his achievements is disappointing. It is your right, but it just makes you look ignorant , and less than supportive of the team.

“Man…. I hope Kwon isn’t on ” the sauce” again.”

WTH, man???? He was never on the sauce! It was freaking RED BULL that got him suspended, and he didn’t know at the time that it broke the rules. Soon as he found out it was, he stopped drinking it.

Frankly, I don’t think he should have been suspended at all. Seems to me, a rookie should get a little leeway for something like that. Its not like he was shooting needles into his thigh.

A small fine should have been enough for a first offense of “drinking Red Bull”.

  39. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    DB55 Says
    “Clap clap clap.

Now once he starts playing like he means it…”

9 sacks a year is horrible. Just horrible. Especially since he had such a strong support system among the rest of the defensive line.

    #sarcasm

  40. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    Lord Cornelius Says
If dude doesn’t get at least 2 defensive TDs a game in meaningful moments that single handily change the outcome then it’s time to cut our losses”

    Sarcasm?

Gotta be. No one is that stupid in real life, lol.

  41. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    tmaxcon Says
“i don’t like mccoy at all. I have not ever and most likely will not like him his entire career…”

I gotta ask. Why is that?

I mean, say he gets 12 sacks this year…you still would not like him? Even though he is getting 9 sacks a year already?

This makes me think there is a personal reason to not like him, and unless you have spent time with him on a personal level, I can only think of two reasons…his faith…or his skin color. Which is it?

  42. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    Ndog Says
“So Kwon said McCoy is turning it up so that means he could have gotten better last year.”

First, McCoy played through two different injuries nearly all season last year…and he still got the most sacks.

Second, maybe he is doing better because he is no longer the ONLY FREAKING PASS RUSHER!!!!!!

I mean, come on, people. How you people can think negative of a guy who manages 9 sacks per year when double and triple teamed because no one else on the line is a real threat is beyond me.

You can’t say he’s trying harder this year. He’s just healthier and has more opportunities because the line over all is better.
