Dotson Gets Paid

The Bucs waved a new fat check in front of Demar Dotson, and he was smart enough to sign it today and not mess around like he did last year.

Dotson engaged in half-assed brief holdout last year. The Bucs, effectively, by laughing off his demands.

He returned to the team, blew out his knee in the first preseason game of 2015, and then lost his job to veteran Gosder Cherilus.

But Dotson found his way to the starting lineup in December, and he’s had a great training camp. Dirk Koetter is a huge Dotson fan.

Today, Dotson got paid. He was in the final year of his second Bucs contract, one that paid him peanuts by NFL standards, a little over $1 million annually. Now, per NFL Network, Dotson will earn $6 million per year on a three-year deal. Though it’s likely only one year of that is guaranteed.

Joe’s happy for Dotson, who has the longest Bucs tenure of anyone on the roster. The former college hoopster was picked up off the street in 2009 by former Bucs rockstar general manager Mark Dominik.

Now he just needs to line up on the LOS and he’ll be good to go. I also noticed him about 5y downfield on an incomplete pass to Brate (last play of the first qrt) that would have been his second penalty of the qrt. Luckily this will be fixed by Sept, hopefully.

Congratulations to Demar! Good for him.

    Congrats Dot!

still think they can and will upgrade RT in the next couple of years. Glad he got paid he put his time in. hopefully his play warrants the raise. I like Dotson but he has been pretty average at best.

  5. Waterboy Says:

I’m glad he got paid and think he should be solid starter for a few more years.

Sign on the dotted line. Gimme that pen smiling from ear to ear. Longest Bucs tenure, that’s an accomplishment in itself. The bad, the ugly and now the good. Go Dotson!

Adam Schefter says is 4 years 16.4 Million total. He’s usually right

  11. Pickgrin Says:

I just posted 2 or 3 days ago that Licht should sign Dot to a 2 year extension. My guess was $12M for the 3 years.

Despite what Joe wrote above about the $6M per year, Adam Schefter is reporting:
“Bucs gave OT Demar Dotson a 3-year, $16.5M extension, per source. He’s now under contract to Bucs for next four seasons.”

So that’s $16.5M for 4 years. Essentially $4M per year.

Sounds like a fair deal for both sides and Dot will be around for awhile.

Congrats to Demar and good job Jason Licht of rewarding and locking up the services of a capable and hard working player.

I was right about Dot, always said he was solid and would get paid to remain the most consistent performer on the line. Despite the past berating of him on here. Glad he’ll remain a Buc.

  13. I know why Says:

Damn that Dominik for signing him as a college free agent back in 2009.

  14. Buc Neckid Says:

    Due

  15. LifeOfABucFan Says:

Did anyone watch his presser? He’s so humble..but one could tell when Donovan did a Periscope in the locker room and pointed to Dot, that Dot didn’t seem happy at all..

    Now he’s grinning..well deserved..

  16. BigHogHaynes Says:

Joule have gotten this last year, maybe even 2yesrs ago. Now what did they give the bad back free agent?

  17. BuccaneEric75 Says:

BigHog, I get what you’re saying, but Dot also has had an injury and Gosder as leverage for the team and JR is only 27. We always have to overpay for FA.
