Peek-A-Boo Drill With Todd Monken & Mike Evans

Hands are important when you handle the football.

Just think. Better hands from Mike Evans — and Doug Martin — and Lovie Smith is likely your smiling Bucs head coach this season.

As Bucs fandom aches for the start of training camp in 13 short days, Joe presents this June practice video of new receivers coach/offensive coordinator Todd Monken leading a hands-eyes drill.

The receivers, Evans and Louis Murphy, line up so they can’t see Monken and only react to his “ball!” call to peek out from the dummy and catch it.

Remember, Monken said he will take Evans’ drops personally.

Yes, yes, yes! Keep working on those hands Mike.

  2. DB55 Says:

That’s kind weak, they should have their backs to coach then turn and catch. They should also be catching with one hand. What is this hs ball? Come on coach step it up. The Bucs really need to hire me, I’d get this ship straight real quick. Peek-a-boo? COME ON MAN!!! You gotta do better than that!

  3. Buccfan37 Says:

I don’t remember ever seeing Lovie smiling. At least he had that going for him. He recognized nothing to smile about.

I was about to type how weak I thought this was but DB55 used my exact word… even Murphy looked less than impressed. Not so sure this is anything more than pop warner football catching 101. Which brings me to my next thought, why do I dislike Monken already? I mean, he hasnt even coached anything meaningful, maybe its the mixed words hes spoken, maybe its, i dunno… Monken is the Kenny Bell of coaches. Show me something.

Big upgrade in the receiver’s coaching this year. Winston is going to have quite a few more TD passes this year compared to last. 10 more (32) is my guess.

Evans will be pushing or surpassing double digit TD catches. VJax gets 7 or 8. Humphries wins the slot receiver job and gets 45 catches or so with 3-4 TDs. ASJ has a break out year with 50+ catches and 6+ TDs.
You read it here 1st – LOL

    @Buccfan37

The only time I remember him smiling was when during that Jameis speech after the Cowboys game.

  7. BuccaneEric75 Says:

DB55, this can’t be the only pass catching drill. Just one of many.

  8. SB with Jameis Says:

Complain, complain, complain. Some of you guys SMH

Come on bro that’s elementary at best. Maybe he’s building from the basics first. How life is mountain man country?

it’s a big upgrade from Lovie’s clerical personal assistant coaching WR… I don’t see how he will not get better results.

    Gulfcoast

Who cares if Murphy looked impressed or not. Murphy will either be selling insurance or on IR by week 7. Molken has produced significantly more than the last 3 WR coaches bucs have had. Spend some time looking up the guy before trashing him.

Mike Evans worst drops last year were the easy catches. For whatever reason dude did well with circus catches and sideline tip toe’ing but couldn’t catch balls that hit him in the chest as he was watching them come. Just sayin. Also pretty obvious they do a lot more than this lol.

  12. Buccfan37 Says:

SCBucsFan… I missed that post Cowboy win smile. Beat them again this year out there and I’ll be flabbergasted.

  13. BuccaneEric75 Says:

I’ll never forget the look on Winstons’ face when Dye dropped that pass against New Orleans. He wasn’t happy.

  14. Trubucfan22 Says:

I wouldn’t pin the firing of Lovie on Doug Martin and Mike Evans. That is pretty stupid. Lovie and his terrible coaching/defense got himself fired. Not the catching ability of 2 of our better players.

  15. Wombat Says:

    Fire Monken!!!

  16. SB with Jameis Says:

What up DB!?!?……I was just home for lunch when I made that comment. I rarely ever get on before 7pm your time. Life is Great up here man. No crime, no cops harassing or shooting anyone, great fishing, solid people…….I never want to live in the Fla. anymore. I like visiting. 🙂

  17. Pawel Says:

I predict when the first pass comes to Evans in regular season, it will be a drop! … screenshot this.

  18. SB with Jameis Says:

  19. Bob in Valrico Says:

suspect it has more to do with teaching an instinctive method to react to balls thrown in your peripheral vision and not right to you.

  20. Bob in Valrico Says:

hands were a problem all right ,only thing is they were Lovie’s hands.once he put his hands on the defense he rendered it pretty ineffective.Don’t imagine Glazers were smiling about the defensive coaching and this would be a prime reason Lovie was fired.

  21. Owlykat Says:

The proof will be in the pudding. I predict now that Monken will work wonders with our receivers this year. The naysayers need to wait and see the results before insulting a good Coach!

  22. gulfcoast Says:

tmaxcon, thanks for noticing. My time was spent living in, growing up in and even taking classes at southern miss. I got a liking for the small school. You assumed I assumed, how ironic. Monken=show me something.
