Watch Out For Jameis!

Spreadsheeters seem to like.

Spreadsheeters seem to like.

The summertime brings about two things: scantily-clad lasses at beach bars and lists.

Naturally, the PFF tribe has a list — its top 101 NFL players.

No, America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, did not make the list. But PFF high priest Sam Monson types Jameis very easily could land the list next offseason, as Monson lists the top-10 players ready for a breakout.

3. Jameis Winston, QB, Buccaneers

Winston is another player whose game has been all about highs and lows. Good Winston put in some outstanding games as a rookie, but his opening-day performance was the single-worst grade we gave any quarterback during the regular season, and he ended the year with a poor performance against an excellent Carolina defense in the Bucs’ final game. Overall, I think the balance was far more positive than negative, but the bad games were enough to keep him off the list as a rookie. If he takes a step forward in year two, or just avoids any disastrous games, then he should make the list.

Joe will have more a bit later on this, but the NFL HQ crowd on NFL Network also discussed Jameis, and they too believe Jameis is ready for his next big step.

Can the rest of the Bucs keep up with Jameis?

There’s no doubt in my mind he will be on that list nextra year. Even tho I could care less of what PFF thinks. Especially after what they keep saying about Kwon. I put no stock into their stats or rankings. I go by the eye test, not adding a bunch of numbers up to get a grade.

I honestly believe all ex players in their roles as talking heads know what Jameis is gonna do. Their told by their bosses to temper the comments because of the shade they cast on him for the last 3 years. By now, the bosses know how foolish that hack job on Jameis was. Hell, even the comment sections on anything Winston related has shifted from vitriol to acceptance. As soon as the civil trial goes his way, everyone and their brother in broadcasting will be yelling from the mountain top how great JW is. The judgemental Trey Wingo’s, and Sander Philipse’s of the world will be all alone in their hope for his failure. Jameis will not be the face of the South. He’ll be the face of the NFL. He’s been better than all these other ‘young guns’ since they all started playing in high school. Nothing has changed. Carr, Mariota, Bridgewater, all know who the man is.
