Right Tackle Enthusiasts, Rejoice!

Caleb Benenoch

New Bucs offensive tackle Caleb Benenoch.

A sect of Bucs fans were angry all day long for weeks because the Bucs didn’t want to draft a left tackle at No. 11 and move said left tackle to right tackle.

It further angered these fans that the Bucs had no interest in moving current left tackle Donovan Smith to right tackle.

This unnerved some Bucs fans so much, they began wearing their Kenyatta Walker jerseys in public.

Joe had been told long ago by a trusted Bucs source that the team indeed wanted to draft a right tackle, one to develop for potentially starting in a year or two as Gosder Cherilus and Demar Dotson, both over 30, are getting long in the tooth. But the Bucs had more pressing needs than right tackle, Joe was informed.

Well, that right tackle is here. The Bucs selected UCLA offensive tackle Caleb Benenoch in the fifth round.

So for Bucs fans who pined for a right tackle, this is your pick.

Of course, Benenoch is versatile. A former soccer player, he can and has played guard as well.

I love drafting offensive linemen. Very very solid draft so far. Seems like we’re getting exactly the kind of players Licht said we would; guys who love football more than anything and play with passion and toughness. It’s up to the coaching staff to make them pro ready. All Licht and co. can do is evaluate talent and character and they seem to be doing a hell of a job.

    Caleb……a 6’5 305lb soccer player…….I guess he must have some quick feet…

Demar Dotson’s contract negotiations just got tougher…..

Look no further than K.Pamphile. both 5th rnd developmental players. Hopefully he is competing for the starting RT job in a few years.

Joe, I agree with you, but you’re kind of, but not really, missing the point. Bucs fans wanted an elite LT, not a RT, and move Smith to RT. You said that in the article, but then keep saying they wanted to draft a RT. It would have been a nice pick for one of the top LT, but as you correctly stated, not a dire need. I couldn’t have argued with a top LT. You’ve already pointed out that Winston was hit more than any QB. That’s why they wanted more top shelf OL help.

Don’t you dare try to spin it joe. There were no fans angry the bucs were not going to draft a tackle at 9. Those fans you are trying to spin were actually educating you on how the draft works. We were explaining to you that drafting one of those tackles (Conklin/Stanley) at 9 was better then reaching for a 2nd round DE at 9. Your skewed logic was you do not draft a “right” tackle in in the top ten yet two teams drafted “right” tackles in the top 10. It could have been 3 tackles if a video did not emerge 10 minutes before the draft started. In any case, our tackle argument at 9 was accurate and your reaching for a DE at 9 plea was so off base that it is not even funny. Do not try to spin your incorrect way of thinking as if the posters were begging for a tackle. That was not the case and you know it. You were wrong then joe and you are definitely wrong now. Wear it please sir.

This guy will have no impact what so ever…

This is a great value pick, some had him rated as high as a 3rd round prospect…good scouting Licht…

  11. Luther Says:

He’s a 5th round pick. His impact is special teams and development. He’ll get his chance because injuries happen.

  12. R.O. Says:

Special teams???? Returner? Gunner? What are snortin’?

  13. Bucballya Says:

Luther is probably referring to him blocking for punts and FGA’s

Nice post Tiny Tim. Joe is quite the spin-miester and fact twister when it comes to certain issues. They also have some pretty messed up takes at times and will defend them to death even when the aftermath shows how clearly wrong they were.

Glad we got the OL prospect though. He had a 3rd roundish grade so we got him for good value.
