Broncos “Consider” McClown?

April 8th, 2016
Joe smells agent.

Joe smells agent.

If one is to believe the report from reliable Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the Broncos — yes, John Elway’s Super Bowl champion Broncos — are considering former Bucs quarterback and supreme career loser Stewart McClown.

In short, Cabot types, the Broncos are so desperate for a quarterback they will “consider” turning the reigns of the team to McCown, a career 18-39 quarterback who is 2-17 his past two seasons. And he stunk so much like a backed up septic tank that his last two rotten teams combined for four wins and couldn’t wait to replace him.

Yet we are to believe Elway, who knows a good quarterback when he sees one, is going to defend his Vince Lombardi Trophy with McClown, who had 19 picks and 19 fumbles the past two years?

Stop before Joe splits a rib from laughing.

In the immortal words of Joe’s good friend, “The Big Dog,” Steve Duemig of WDAE-AM 620, Joe smells agent. McClown’s agent to be precise.

This man is one helluva wheeler dealer. He always finds a sap of a team to pay McClown seven figures a year. Amazing. This sure seems like McClown’s agent, knowing his days in Cleveland are numbered, is trying to gin up buzz for his dullard of a quarterback client.

If Elway really is toying with the notion of signing McClown, then that tells Joe he is targeting Baker Mayfield or Deshaun Watson in the 2017 draft, because recent history tells us teams that start McClown wind up with no worse than a No. 2 overall pick the following spring.

    That’s pretty harsh Joe.

Is Josh McCown a top tier NFL QB? of course not.

Can he wins games with a good supporting cast around him? Probably.

It seems to me that most QB needy teams would rather pay too much $ in order to take a chance on a free agent QB – than give up valuable draft picks in order to take a chance on a young non-FA QB like Glennon.

I don’t blame any NFL player for getting as much cash as he can..when he can.
In NcClowns defense, he took an absolute beat down..shell-lacking when he was with our Bucs. I mean, one could argue he played behind one of our worst ever O lines. The man took one of the worst beatings ever witnessed since we had Vinnie Testerverde. He’s probably a future concussion study people. No, he was not a good QB here. But he was gutsy. I’ll give him that.

  3. Howard Cosell Says:

McCown has magic tears. When he cries it’s like a spell is cast.
He uses his magic tears to manipulate teams, coaches and owners.

  4. Howard Cosell Says:

    Yeah,
McCown did get pummeled, which usually resulted in the ball flying up in the air or bouncing off the ground. It seems an opposing player was always there to scoop it up.

    However,
We can bag on McCown all we want, but without McCown there is no Winston.

  5. tmaxcon Says:

I’m confused with the great Mike Glennon available how could any other qb even be considered by any team.

  6. JAB83 Says:

Its not hard to figure out why he keeps getting a gig……..

I don’t understand why you all don’t realize it!!!

    Anyways….

  7. BigHogHaynes Says:

If you don’t know now you know! JAB83 say it good ni!

  8. JollyBucsFan Says:

I am sorry but if I am a team in need of QB I am offering a 3rd for Glennon.

Thank God for Winston. But I always thought and know that Glennon can be a solid starting QB for a team. maybe even better than half of the current starters out there. He’s still young. not alot of wear and tear. A team like the Broncos that won a SB with Manning’s play? Glennon could have outperformed Manning last year if he was the QB. He is servicable enough for them to be in SB contention again.

Dont misread. I am not saying Glennon is a SB quality QB. but neither was Peyton last year. or Brad Johnson in 2002

  9. Scurvy Dogs Says:

Call me crazy, but I think McCown would do well with the weapons that Denver has. He is a mobile quarterback and could run Kubiak’s system well, in my opinion. Would love to see this guy succeed. He has heart, that’s an admirable characteristic to me.

  10. Phil Says:

Maybe Elway sees what Josh did for the Bucs (Jameis) and would like Josh to do that for him. The Bucs have gone from worst to first before maybe the Broncos could go from first to worse. Not too many teams do that.

  11. 813bucboi Says:

damn…mccown can still get a job….wish vince young or Terrell pryor had as many lifes as josh…vince did go 11-2 one year…pryor won a few games with the raiders when hue Jackson was the hc…pryor has more upside…mccown has done nothing special in the league…GO BUCS!!!

    Exactly, Bro.
YOu may make the Cannon now, but Howard will go out on a limb and say that Glennon and Licht pull off the big one. Glennon will be good as a starter.

  13. William Walls Says:

The Bucs went from worst to first to worst. (1978, 1979, 1980)

  14. Howard Cosell Says:

    make = mock

  15. Dave Pear Says:

    William Walls,

Actually they weren’t worst in 1980.
Finished 4th in the Central division when there were 5 teams.

  16. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Really, any team would be wise to take McCown if they quickly wanted a top starting QB. It would put one a season away…and let’s face it…it ain’t easy repeating a SB anyway.

  17. Pa Privateer Says:

This is all brinksmanship. All the GM’s are testing the will of Licht to hold out for that 2nd or higher price

  18. Cobraboy Says:

Who will blink first: Licht, or 4-5 GM’s (I add LA) badly in need of a QB?

    My money is on Licht…

  19. James Walker Says:

If the Broncos take McClown they deserve the losing season they will get.

  20. William Walls Says:

@Dave Pear: I stand corrected. Thank you.

I just remember as a young teen all the chants in 1979 of “Worst to First!”, and then when the Bucs were crashing during the following season, everyone was chanting “Worst to First – to Worst!”, but you’re right, Dave, we didn’t actually end up in last place at the end of that season. But the next 12 years, though… Ugh! Tough times…

  21. ATrain Says:

I hope the Bronco’s take McClown…Would make Elway the Tool he is….

    What a joke….McClown is still playing…HaHaha.

NFL teams if your GM is considering McClown then call me I am Smarter than that….

  22. mike johnson Says:

William Walls..I was there sir for most of those inaugural seasons games. Very painful. As a teen, I sat there with my dad as he dranked his beer and cursed at our Bucs. Those were the days! Hope we can..pull out of what we are currently in. Although we have not been as bad as those 1st years.

Always amusing when armchair hacks and jock sniffers make fun of elite athletes.
