Licht Likes Martin’s Anger

March 9th, 2016
An angry Doug Martin is good.

An angry Doug Martin is good.

Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht is a former offensive lineman. He once played for Nebraska and Tom Osborne and backed up a guy by the name of Will Shields.

So Licht knows a thing or two about blocking. And he said in his afternoon press conference this afternoon discussing Doug Martin’s new pact that offensive linemen enjoy blocking for a guy who runs like Martin.

In short, they like angry running backs, Licht said.

Martin has “an angry style of running that makes everyone around him love playing with him and like to block for him better than they would for just a guy,” Licht said. “He’s a special guy.”

Let’s hope that angry style doesn’t lead to any more injuries.

Martin is currently fourth in Bucs history in rushing yards with 3,806 yards. He needs 2,151 to break the Bucs’ all-time rushing mark of 5,957 held by James Wilder.

Two good seasons and Martin should be your all-time Bucs rushing leader.

I just want to hear about Ayers signing at DE and a DB now.
    Then depth

  2. Espo Says:

It always amuses me when people say we need to be more aggressive with play calling in order to get our lineman in a rhythm. Aggression to a lineman is run blocking. Go forwards and attack at the snap instead of letting a 300lb man come at you. It must be rewarding to have success like Dougie had last year. He didn’t do that without a good push up front.

i dont really like ayers but why not sign him, we didnt try for anyone else at de

  4. LargoSamIM Says:

Don’t expet much now that he has the $$$$ ! … yeah…. he really ran “angry” in 2014….. when by his own admission (several times) he was healthy….but I don’t to rain on anyone’s parade… I hope he plays like last year 9contract year)….

  5. unbelievable Says:

Martin has a very incentive-laden contract, beyond the 15mil guaranteed. Lots of reasons ($$$) for him to play at the same high level.

I believe he will come back in the same form as 2015. Let’s just hope he stays healthy again. Color me optimistic.

  6. ElioT Says:

I hope they’ve got a plan for some depth signings. We’ll be lucky to get two or three starters in the draft and this team needs a lot of help still.

    Come on!

  7. unbelievable Says:

I think the rest of FA will be depth to be honest.

  8. JAB83 Says:

Read between the lines here, JL is really saying, “guys like playing with an ICON yet to be discovered and ledgen in the making that is otherwise known to locals as The Musel Hamster.”

Its only fitting Doug dislikes his alter ego you know… What super hero truley likes they’re alter ego??? They all just become who they are meant to be…. Long live The Musel Hamster in Tampa Sports History and hopefully all of sports history as well!!!!

Thank you so much Mr Martin for staying in Tampa!!! You just made my top ten all around favorite Bugs ever… Can’t wait to watch you carry us to some big wins in January Sir!!!

  9. ElioT Says:

Decent contract for Doug when you remember the franchise tag would have been $11mil guaranteed just for one year.

  10. salish_seamonster Says:

Now Doug is contending with the name “Musel” Hamster. He didn’t like Muscle Hamster, so you thought you could get around it by spelling it differently? Very clever.

  11. LifeOfABucFan Says:

Ayers is reported to be on his way to Tampa tonight..woohoo!!!

  12. JAB83 Says:

Yeah my bad noticed that after I posted it… but the point remains

  13. Trubucfan22 Says:

Isn’t it amazing how low the Bucs offensive records are? Martin is 4th all time for the Bucs in rushing yards? After only 2 full seasons.

And josh Freeman is our qb franchise leader. Luckily Winston will soon own all the Bucs qb records.

It is kinda cool that we get to experience the best Bucs offense ever for at least the next 5 years. We’ve had the great defense before. I’m excited to watch a great offense.

  14. BucTrooper Says:

@TruBucFan22…. I was about to say the same thing. Two decent seasons and two decimated by injuries and you can climb to FOURTH BEST in a 40 year history???

Adrian Peterson has gotten 3800 yards in 2 seasons.

  15. Steve-O Says:

Don’t know about the rest of you but in my business I want to be the best regardless of what I’m getting paid. When you pair that with enough individuals who have the same mindset you have a winning team. Doug got paid which is great! I fully support the decision. For those of you who have negative comments about the direction of the team, take a backseat like the rest of us, support the team and have a positive outlook rather than be a drain on the team/fans. I don’t take names here so no hard feelings but you naysayers will be replying different messages here in December of 2016. Not saying we are Super Bowl bound but definitely better than last year.

  16. Buccfan37 Says:

I liked James Wilder a lot. I’d like to see the muscle bamster get that record and believe he will.

  17. K2 Says:

KIA needs to film a new commercial and add the muscle hamster…it will sell millions. LOL
