Generation Jameis

The Bucs need clear vision

Joe’s written previously that there are loads of teenagers running around the Tampa Bay area who either weren’t alive when the Bucs won a Super Bowl, or have absolutely zero recollection of those glory days teams.

To them, John Lynch is a dude their moms had a crush on 18 years ago. Simeon Rice is something they order at a Thai restaurant.

Throw in the modern culture of immediacy, the right-now world, and legions of Bucs fans are yearning and aching for a fresh start that really feels fresh.

Enter America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston. He’s not just the Bucs’ 22 year old quarterback, he’s the face of a new generation of fans: Generation Jameis.

Joe points this out because Jason Licht and Team Glazer should realize this. Everything must be all about Jameis on so many levels.

Bucs officials expect marked improvement from Jameis in 2016. Given that, the Bucs also should expect to improve what’s around Jameis on the offensive side of the football. That’s only fair, just, righteous and sensible.

Why should Jameis enter this season without quality depth at receiver, and by losing the NFL’s No. 2 running back?

Vincent Jackson is a year older. Austin Seferian-Jenkins is nowhere near the player everyone thought he might be at this point last year. It’ll take a miracle for the Bucs to replace Doug Martin, if they choose to.

The Bucs should be building around Jameis. It’s as obvious as Joe’s beer gut. There’s no crime in having an offense strikes fear in every opponent and has fans smiling at the scoreboard. Just ask the revamped Steelers.

Joe types all this hoping the Bucs are seeing clearly on this Monday morning, the dawn of free agency, a time when Generation Jameis expects action to help their quarterback and team blossom properly.

I like “it’s all about Jameis” better than “it’s all about #5”. Also I ordered the “Simeon Rice” last night and it gave the double digit runs. Just sayin’.

Putting on your pretend GM hat on today Joe. It was obvious too that we should have signed #5 to a team friendly deal too.

    Absolutely. Team-friendly. You are correct.–Joe

  6. Love and Warrick Dunn Says:

What specific amount would have been considered team-friendly?

  7. Guzzie Says:

I get ASJ isn’t gronk but seriously he’s 23 and has played 2 years, he’s got a little time to get going let’s have some faith our 6’5 monster wakes up

Aren’t you guys a little sick of all of this Jameis Winston praise? I am. He’s had a decent season on a..losing TEAM. Note the highlight on TEAM. That includes or should include a winning defense. DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS. Just ask the Denver Broncos. Fix the Defense Bucs or continue your prison sentence in the bowels of LOSER-DOM!!

Joe you use the Steelers quite often when you make note of a dominant offense and I would agree that probably is the most dominant. But what I wanna ask is have you noticed the versatilty in they’re main guy RB Bell??? I think that type is type Licht and Koetter are searching for.

To answer your question mj Hell No!!

    “He’s had a decent season on a..losing TEAM. ”

He had one of the top statistical rookie seasons in NFL history.

Peyton’s rookie year, the Colts went 3-13.

For the first time, the Bucs actually have a franchise QB. Sorry you can’t enjoy it, but, I’m glad other fans are enjoying it.

  12. DB55 Says:

Joe I couldn’t agree with you more but instead what we’re doing is losing pieces that are NOT easily replaceable. And putting your faith in vjax who is one bad hit away from retirement is either stupid or vary vary ballsy.

  13. Marlow1976 Says:

I made my 6 and 9 year old watch video of all of those players on youtube. Won’t be any excuses in my house for not knowing the historical Buc players!

  14. Mike Johnson Says:

Love And Warrick Dunn Note.. What good is a great QB and you are Losing Your bute off! Franchise QB means absolutely nothing when your team vies for virtually last place yr after Yr. PLEASE!! Sell your wares to Goodwill sir.
DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS. I’d rather have an average QB and win than have a great QB and lose all of the time. Course, some people get their hard core jollies off by losing. WINNING IS THE ONLY THING THAT MATTERS IN THE NFL..Vince Lombardi!!

Josh freeman was declared a franchise quarterback……..
