Koetter Stumps For VJax

Bucs coach Dirk Koetter steps up to the podium this morning at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.

Dirk Koetter made his first public appearance since being named Bucs head coach before the full weight of the NFL media this morning at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. And Koetter returned to a favorite theme when he was the Bucs offensive coordinator.

The theme? Koetter wants wide receiver Vincent Jackson back. While it sure looks like a done deal Jackson returns, it didn’t keep a reporter — not from Tampa Bay area — to ask about Jackson’s salary and him becoming a possible salary cap causality.

The cap number question would be more of a question for Jason [Licht],” Koetter began. “As a football coach, man, I would love to have Vincent Jackson on my team any day of the week.”

As Koetter said the above, he wore a smile on his face just like that in the picture Joe shot above.

Barring something unbelievably unforeseen, Joe cannot imagine Jackson not being in a Bucs uniform in 2016.

This guy is a great leader, amazing in the community and still very productive. He deserves every cent! I hope he retires a Buccaneer!

  2. The Buc Realist Says:

I do not see a pay cut for VJ83!!! The Bucs need VJ83 more than he needs the Bucs!!! Pleassse stat healthy for 2016 season!!!!

    Go Bucs!!!

  3. I know why Says:

Great signing when we got him. How rare is it in free agency to get a #1 receiver and have him play out the entire deal. Vincent is a true pro. Bucs will keep him they have to pay someone and not sure I trust them to go into free agency for the 3rd straight year.

  4. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    Vincent is a true pro.

I agree completely. VJAX has also earned literally tens of MILLIONS of dollars already. He and the next generation of little VJAXes are set FOREVER!!

$$$ are not the critical part of this deal. Respect however is. If Licht could find some way to restructure VJAX’s deal for the good of the team…and respectful of what VJAX has contributed to the Bucs there may be some way to work this out other than simply paying the $$$ this year. Maybe they could guarantee the amount over two years or something creative.

    I think he’ll be back!

  5. rhenry Says:

Aside from the obvious, an added bonus gained by letting Vjax play out his contract is the positive message it sends future free agents considering signing with Tampa.

  6. darin Says:

No way they could ask vjax to take a pay cut with all that cap space. Now if they’d go spend it all n make the team better then maybe. N just maybe he’d say yes if he felt like they were heading to the dance finally.

  7. Bear the Bucs Says:

Luv him . Can’t afford him. Getting old. Getting injured. Pay cut time.

  8. Espo Says:

How can we not afford him? It’s not like he’ll be getting paid that much when we have to resign all our other players.

  9. Mike Johnson Says:

Koetter better be stomping for a much improved Defense. No Defense? No wins. its that’s simple.
    DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS
