“They’ve Been Patient Enough”

Nothing like some quality reality from your Buccaneers general manager, Jason Licht.

Licht talked about fans today at One Buc Palace.

The GM was asked about fans exercising patience and the Bucs’ organization showing patience.

“I think when you have eight wins in two years, three home wins in two years, I think they’ve been patient enough,” Licht said. “It does take time, but I think while you’re building a good football team you can compete.”

Joe believes “compete” is the key word here. The Bucs were non-competitive in their final four games — against three lousy teams and a division rival.

Also, don’t underestimate that home record at the Den of Depression. Team Glazer knows at least two thirds of the ticket-buying fans had lost confidence in Lovie Smith.

But according to incompetent Lovie Smith “we’ll get there” and I can only imagine the eye rolling going on in the Glazer office watching Lovie’s last presser!

  2. Raymond Jameis Stadium Says:

Amen Jason, Amen I say to you.

  3. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

So…Jason Licht has final say so on the roster. He negotiates contracts. He negotiates trades. He runs the scouts. He manages the salary cap. And according to all of you, he controlled the draft.

So, in essence…Lovie was handcuffed and not permitted to build his defense. Does that make sense? I’m telling you, Jason Licht is the problem here.

  4. Love and Warrick Dunn Says:

It’s comical to see all the messages from people on the national sites who think it was a mistake.

“They have a rookie QB and tripled their wins” – They clearly weren’t watching the games. Jameis wasn’t the problem. The defense was the problem.

Bonzai, you’re glib. He NOW has control over the 53 man roster.

What kind of inhalant are you huffing to think Licht, on his own, signed all those Chicago Bears?

“We’ll get there, it’s as simple as that” – is probably exactly what Lovie told the Glazers at season’s end. Joel Glazer’s response – “so Lovie, at 6-6 with a shot at the playoffs, your team got embarrassingly destroyed the final four games. Can you explain that without telling me ‘we’ll get there’ and ‘it’s as simple as that’? Oh, and if you can’t, the door is right behind you.”

  7. Mike10 Says:

Ya I think he worded this part well. Now, if I could only remove this (slightly presumptive) Bucs Super Bowl 51 champs tattoo..

You should go work for BSPN’s NFL Insiders – because they have no freakin clue what they’re talking about either.

This was a gutsy move by the Glazers. And I applaud them for letting Licht handle this hire – unusual for them.

  9. BucFan20 Says:

The players were good enough for you to guarantee the team would win the final 4 games right Bonzai? And Lovie would have have no problem then. But They lost and it is all Licht fault. Lovie had nothing to do with it?

23-57 over last 80 games. What ails the Buccaneers isn’t a coaching problem. It’s a dysfunctional organization ran by inept ownership.

You know what I don’t get?

People who get so bent out of shape that “their guy” got the can, that they lash out at everything else.

While I am a big Jameis fan, I would have rooted hard for Mariota. Same goes for the coach, same goes for the GM, etc. Whoever it is, and then for whoever the next guy is.

Stop worrying about your guy getting fired, and be a Bucs fan.

  12. Howard Cosell Says:

Didn’t Big Log say that Bucs fans are “maggots”?
Maybe he meant just the fans who want Lovie fired.
Or maybe he meant people who disagree with him.

Regardless, it should be fun to hear him tear the Glazers a new one today.
(I guess by logical implication he thinks they’re maggots too).

Bonzai…I’m not even going to go after you anymore. I’ll let your words speak for themself. Let everyone else go on the attack.

Just keep typing that though. I mean why stop now.

Bucbonanza you’re drunk if you think Licht is the problem. He comes from 2 GREAT franchise, and we’ve had 2 of the best drafts in our history. He will be the reason why we are relevant again and sooner rather than later!! Glorious Days are head of us fans stay the course!!!!#GoBucs#SiegeTheDay

  16. Mike Johnsom Says:

I place the firing of Lovie Smith right up there with one of the Bucs all time failures. Not wanting to give QB Doug Williams a salary commensurate with other NFL QB’s. He left and won a Superbowl elsewhere. You Buc Fans want that, Instant gratification. 3 coaches in 5 yrs. Yes sireee we gotta find Mr Instant Success baby! Well, you’re not gonna find him. Sure, you will hire Koetter, show up wishing he take you to a SB. Then give him 2 or more yrs. Then fire him. And repeat the process. Meanwhile teams who stuck with there coaches..supercede you. Lovie was not perfect. But he was building something special here. It take time peoples. As you..shall see. Welcome aboard Buc fans, We are now the Cleveland Browns of the South. All time bigtime losers.
Be careful what you wish for. Well you got it. Lovies gone and he will come back to haunt you. Koetter may score a lot of points. But he won’r stop many other teans from scoring one more than you. good Luck, you’re gonna need plenty of it. Carolina’s gonna rule this division for the next 4 yrs or so. I hope Scott Reynolds over at Pewter Report is happy. He got his wish as did a lot of you. Look forward to at least 2 more sub par 500 seasons. Despite famous Jameis.

    D-Rome for the win!!!

23-57 over last 80 games. What ails the Buccaneers isn’t a coaching problem. It’s a dysfunctional organization ran by inept ownership.

If you look at all the great franchises…NE…Seattle…Green Bay and a few others..the common denominator is great ownership which of course in the Pack’s case are the fans themselves. Green Bay people do not have to put up with the Sternbergs and Glazers of the world.

Conversely all the horrible franchises..Browns…Bucs…and others are united by the common thread of bad ownership.

The Bucs will win or lose in spite of the Glazers. We just have to get lucky!

I say our luck has changed. #3…3 other rookie starters who played well..and a draft ahead with a ton of cap money available.

Even the blind squirrel gets the acorn once in awhile…lets hope the poor blind Glazers luck into an acorn and we get a winner at HC.
