Pro Bowl Plans For David, Mankins

January 18th, 2016
The football gods right a wrong

Football gods deliver a make-up call

Despite playing at a Pro Bowl level, Lavonte David has never played in a Pro Bowl.

That’s about to change.

A “first alternate” for the 2016 squad, David will be scoring a free trip to Hawaii next week, barring a truly bizarre happening.

David is stuck in the “outside linebacker category” with 3-4 defensive ends like Demarcus Ware and Von Miller of the Broncos. But if Denver makes the Super Bowl, then David will eat pineapple and get a paid vacation because those guys won’t head to Hawaii. OLBs Thomas Davis of the Panthers, and Jamie Collins of the Patriots, also made the Pro Bowl. And their teams remain alive in the playoffs.

So David looks like a sure bet. (Joe’s not calling it 100 percent, considering how David always seems to get snubbed. Joe’s not ruling out a freakish happening.)

Right after the regular season, Joe asked David whether heading to the Pro Bowl as an alternate would be bittersweet. David reacted as if Joe was nuts. David said it would be a tremendous honor to attend, and he would be all pumped up to get that phone call.

Guard Logan Mankins also is a “first alternate,” per Buccaneers.com.

With 2016 Pro Bowl guards Mike Iupati (Cardinals) and Trai Turner (Panthers) facing each other in the NFC Championship game, it’s also a lock that Mankins will earn his seventh Pro Bowl trip and first as a Tampa Bay Buccaneer.

so between McCoy, Martin, Mankins and David we have 4 probowlers along with the Offensive ROTY in Winston but being 6-6 in the playoff hunt and losing 4 straight to end the season meant Lovie was fired unfairly? HAHAHAHA

  2. Curse of Gruden Says:

    Lovie was 8-24.
    Schiano was 11-21.
    Come-on IB, don’t be a homer.

  3. tdtb2015 Says:

    Playoffs 2016!

As simple as That! Is all about the Future!

  4. Howard Cosell Says:

I’m pretty sure this is how the Lovie firing went down:
Licht and Glazers had a secret good-ol-boy metting and it went like this,
Licht: “Now ya’ll know as good as I do that a black man can’t coach.”
    Glazer 1: “Yeah!”
Glazer 2: “Yeah!” (spits on the floor)
Licht: “Now what we need is white coach.”
    Glazer 1: “Yeah!”
Glazer 2: “We don’t take kindly to black coached round here.”
    Licht: “So it’s decided then.”
Koetter unexpectedly walks in the door: “Hey guys, what’s new?”

  5. Tampa Tony Says:

The only time I’ve felt David was snubbed was his rookie year. He’s very good, but has a lot to improve when it comes to being considered great at his position

  6. IANBECKLES Says:

Curse of Gruden, I’m openly mocking the national talking heads and some of the delusional Bucs fans who think Lovie got railroaded. He went 8-24 with the talent listed above. Lovie is a great person but 8-24 means he was a terrible coach and deserved to get replaced.

  7. Buccfan37 Says:

Which if any is the real Ian Beckles? Two different handle displays have me confused. Probably neither.

  8. 1BucFanNsaintCountry Says:

@Howard Cosell why do you even have to make this about race?!?!

  9. Buc1987 Says:

1BucFanNsaintCountry …possibly because Stephen A-ss Smith did the same thing.

Even though the Bucs have had 3 black HC coaches in the last 20 years when some franchises have had none.

Also don’t ya know that’s how it always goes these days. Just turn on MSNBC or CNN.

  10. StPeteBucsFan Says:

@Howard Cosell why do you even have to make this about race?!?!

Perhaps because he is a reverse racist? Putting race into Lovie’s firing is not only wrong and disgusting it harms the arguments against all the actual racism.

During the debate over drafting JW I saw a lot of racism on this blog. I’ve never seen even a hint of it in any Lovie hate…it was always about his record…his conservative style…I never heard any tinged words.

I certainly disagreed at time with Realist, Dallas, Couch and some of the other Lovie haters but they NEVER posted without actual points…mainly his abysmal record..and never even suggested anything racial.

Calling racism where it does not exist is like the kid crying wolf…it confuses the issue when people actually are racist.

You were fine until that last comment which is just as backwards as the racist comment. And it’s hyperbole!!! No it does not ALWAYS go that way. Do we assume you are like CNN and MSNBC because you defended JW against clearly racist comments?

Here is the problem with your world view in a nutshell 87. You want things to be black and white just like most conservatives..not all but most. Here’s a tip.

Life is NOT black and white!!! It’s all kinds of shades of gray. Learn some nuance 87.

  12. LifeOfABucFan Says:

hope he plays at the PB!

Next year, you’ll see a lot more Bucs making the PB..How many did Carolina have total? Like the whole freaking team!!??

    Bucs will rule!

  14. BucTrooper Says:

Who knew there was a back door into the Pro Bowl?

  15. Howard Cosell Says:

Lol @ all of you tight arse numb-nuts.
Get a life. Pull the corn-cobb out and worry about something that actually matters. The Glazers are the least racist owners since Al Davis. Lovie was fired because he failed worse than Raheem and Schiano at x’s and o’s. No other reason than that. To think otherwise is butt-hurt.

Go Bucs! Get out of the past and don’t fear the future.

  16. Howard Cosell Says:

    “Butt-hurt”:
An inappropriately emotional (emo) response to a perceived (not real) insult.

Joe, please send out link to remind folks to Go vote Jameis http://www.nfl.com/voting/rookies/2015/YEAR/0

  18. Trubucfan22 Says:

Good for David. He certainly deserves it.

  19. Howard Cosell Says:

Howard voted for Winston several times. Thanks for the link.

  20. OneBucPerson Says:

    @ Tampa Tony

Did you not see his 2013 season? 145 tackles, 7 sacks, 5 picks, 2 FF. He made First-team All Pro but was absolutely snubbed form the Pro Bowl. He has almost 600 career tackles after 4 years, for being a true 4-3 outside LB I’d say he has proven himself to be great.

  21. Tiny Tim Says:

    @ 87

And Fox news thinks race never has anything to do with it. Yea, that makes a lot of sense.

  22. mac Says:

Very happy for Logan Mankins… He showed up for camp looking lean and mean and he had a very solid year… I hope he comes back and has another then hopefully all the poor fans that miss Tim Wright so much can finally shut up about this trade… It was a GOOD trade…

Nice work Jason Licht! It’s great to finally have a real GM!!

  23. kraymuthaphukinglocz Says:

    long overdue

  24. LifeOfABucFan Says:

Voted for Jameis quite a few times!!

    On another note!!

FYI…My old hometown of Joburg, South Africa has quite a few Bucs fans! I still visit there every other month..

  25. Buc1987 Says:

Tiny Tim…..I don’t know. I never watch any of them anymore.

  26. Tiny Tim Says:

Congrats to Logan Mankins! Humphries, Conte, Brate and Marpet should’ve all made the Pro Bowl! Martin, David, McCoy all didn’t deserve the nod. Happy MLK Day

  27. Elle Says:

Did the Glazers and Licht also use white, pointy hoods to cover their head during that conversation?

  28. lurker Says:

    “Joburg, South Africa”

how apropos in a thread with racism brought up! lol

  29. lurker Says:

spbf has a new word for the week, i guess.

It is nuance. He has been dropping it in his comments for a few days now. lol

  30. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    lurker

Perhaps some people will pick up on it. It’s SORELY MISSING in not just our sports conversations but political as well.

We want our players/coaches/politicians to either be right or wrong…great or horrible. As TBBF has asked in the past…is there no middle?

  31. Buc1987 Says:

    I have a dream….

I have a dream that people in America will stop pulling the race card when it’s not warranted.

I also have a dream that the Bucs make the playoffs…not sure which one will come true first.

  32. LargoBuc Says:

Ugh, I can not stand Stephen A. I lost all respect the day after Lovie was fired. For bspn to let him go on a rant that suggests race played a part in a firing is a new low for them. They’re just as guilty for giving that ignoranus a forum in the first place.
LargoBuc’s word of the week: IGNORANUS XD

  35. LifeOfABucFan Says:

    @lurker

And we are Afrikaners..and a Buc fan since 1981..lived there during the apartheid era and was not being able to watch a single football game..all my Bucs news had to come by mail..

  36. Buccfan37 Says:

Buc fans have patience, we’ve waited this long, we’ll wait some more. This coming season will be a difficult wait for me.

  37. BUC IT Says:

The racism BS is a joke! In my opinion…the Glazers are idiots and make a lot of really bad decisions when it comes to both of their professional sports teams but they definitely haven’t been racist. The Bucs have had 3 black head coaches and 3 black qb’s (2 1st rounders) since the glazers have owned the team. Stupidest comment I’ve ever heard. Lovie was fired because teams were strongly considering Koetter and it was only a matter of time before he got his chance. If it wasn’t for that Lovie would’ve probably gotten one more year to prove it. The Glazers might’ve finally made a good decision. Stephen A is an idiot and personally I feel he is racist.

  38. BUCSFAN68 Says:

Race had nothing to do with Lovie being fired. Stephen A Smith is correct when he talks about the percentage of black HC in comparison to the percentage of black players. On a side note some of the commenters on here who complain about the race card being played are the same ones dealing it from the deck when they equate penalties committed by black players on the football field with criminal behavior and label them thugs. These same commentators/bloggers don’t do that when it’s a white athlete or coach. I don’t recall anyone calling Mike Munchak a thug for pulling the hair of a Bengals player.

  39. Ray Rice Says:

Mike Smith needs to dig up Schiano film on David. Not the defense. David.
