Mike Evans Wants Josh Norman

Careful, Mike.

Be careful what you wish for.

Few players have broken through and onto the NFL radar this season quite like Stinking Panthers cornerback Josh Norman. The guy has been a terror. He has gotten into the head of Odell Beckham, turning the Giants star into a mental patient.

This year, Norman has four picks (gee, Johnthan Banks had four picks last year and that’s not good enough for Lovie Smith), 17 pass breakups, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. He also had a pick-six against America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, in the last meeting of the two NFC South foes.

None of this matters to Mike Evans. He wants Norman to cover him Sunday.

“I’m excited,” Evans said yesterday at the thought of facing Norman. “I’m excited for it, but I don’t know if I’ll see him or not. The first game, he didn’t match me. So this game, I hope he does. It’ll be a fun game for me, our last game this year. They play a lot of Cover-3 zone, but they play a little bit of man [coverage] so maybe I’ll see him.”

Evans, who has been known to jaw with opponents, might want to be careful here. It seems that is what Norman thrives on: getting into receivers’ heads.

Be careful, Mike. Be careful.

Mike Clayton Evans should only wish to secure a reception once in a while. This guy has been the biggest disappointment among a list of miserable let downs on this incompetent Lovie Smith 2015 football team.

  2. LargoBuc Says:

This is Evans fourth time facing that defense and never has he had a breakdown like ObJ. He’s had his issues this year, but calling a 1,000 yard receiver anything close to Michael Clayton is a little unfair.
Evans keeps his cool usually but he’s not a bitsh either. He’ll be fine.

  3. BucTrooper Says:

Evans’ biggest competition is attached to his wrists.

  4. Couch Fan Says:

Even with the drops Evans is having a better season than last year so a comparison to Clayton is silly. The arrow is still pointing up and I believe he’ll get over the drop issues and will become the dominate receiver we need. Especially with Winston in his ear.

  5. BrianBucs Says:

It doesn’t matter who is covering you if you keep dropping the ball. Mike may want to concentrate on that

  6. Buc1987 Says:

Joe…It sounds me like he’s already gotten into his head.

  7. Buc1987 Says:

I imagine his drop total would be pretty high if he’s practically the only WR they have and gets targeted the most.

Has he dropped more than he’s caught? I don’t know about that.

  8. tnew Says:

I thought he was already talking about free agency, and I agree. I want Josh Norman too

  9. Pickgrin Says:

Dallas – you will always find fault with this team no matter the players or coaches.
Lovie is incompetent. GMC is soft as ice cream. Evans with over 1100 yards in 13 games is the Bucs “biggest disappointment”.

You sir are a sorry excuse for a “fan” and it must really suck to be you considering all the negativity you spew. Or is that just reserved for your beloved Buccaneers and the rest of your life is light and joyous and negativity free? LOL

  10. dmatt Says:

Until Evans proves to b at his best under pressure n step up consistently during crunch time then he need to keep his mouth shut…Lovie should impose a gag order on Evans before he put his foot in his mouth n open up a can of worms that can hurt the his team. Evans is not mature nor discipline enough to handle experienced players that can get in his head n rattle him with the game on the line. Evans is not a Michael Jordan or Jerry Rice two players who performs at their best when defenders use mental n physical tactics to take their game away from them. The smartest thing Evans can do is keep quiet n catch the dang ball!!!!!

  11. Buccfan37 Says:

Evans should have his faint dispel the defender brush off technique perfected at this late date.

  12. Capt Blighe Says:

Evans has a lot of receptions and yards because most of the year we didn’t have another NFL receiver on the field and they threw to him every play .

  13. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Mike Evans is a beast and we are fortunate to have him…..ask Jameis what he thinks of Evans…..they will be a team for many years.

  14. HIRE JIMBO Says:

Let’s go mike. You guys on here talking about GMC being soft and not wanting to win and then turn around and rip Mike for a 1100 yrd season and basically telling him to shut up. You make me sick. Mike is one of the only things going for us on this team. I love the fire and the willingness to go up against the best. Mike is a true #1 and he will clean up his drops this offseason. Think about it. He has been targeted at least 100 times this year and he has 10 drops. In retrospective that’s not a ton. Lay off Mike h e will be a great receiver. First 2 seasons with 1000+ yards and he’s already in GREAT company

  15. LargoBuc Says:

I like Evans and Vjax but we must add to the posistion. Injuries exposed a lack of depth.

  16. MadMax Says:

Best thing to do to him is focus on playing your game and dont even acknowledge that POS. Thats what people like him hate most, especially if you’re beating him.

  17. DavidbigBucsFan Says:

You know why people like DallasBuc call ME13 a bust even though he still makes great catches and will probably end the season with over 1200 yards this season??? Because they are M O R O N S ! ! ! ! ! ! It’s no wonder that this fool keeps calling Lovie Smith incompetent even though Lovie is the complete opposite. His kind always take one word or phrase or ideal that someone else spoke and shout it loud regardless of the facts. You show them the definition of the word bust or incompetent in the dictionary and they won’t care they will go with what they want because they are idiots. They all think they are better than others because of their ideals or pigmentation and look down on others. I guarantee none of them combined could ever do in their entire lives what Lovie Smith and Mike Evans have done in their careers.

  18. DavidbigBucsFan Says:

CaptainBlight your name says it all but the fact that Evans gets open as much as he does being the only legitimate receiver on the team says how great of a receiver he will be. He has hit the sophmore slump, but his slump still accounts for probably around 75 catches for 1200 yards as a sophomore. That really makes him out to be another Michael Clayton but of course to the morons and idiots that run rampant on this board call him a bust. So stop whining about that and just know what he did as a rookie and during his sophomore slump points to when he fixes his concentration problems he will rival Megatron.

  19. Red86 Says:

I predict more complaints to the ref in your future Mike.

  20. Buc1987 Says:

Incompetent Lovie Smith = Incompetent team.

    Thee end.

  21. Mike Says:

Every time Evans begs for a flag, DRink! You’ll be stuck by 2:20 pm

  22. unbelievable Says:

@87, depends on who is counting the drops. Steve White referenced a site which had Evans with 11 drops on the season, 6 of which came in that Giants game. I would put his total at around 14 on the season, personally. Anyways, that same site also showed a drop percentage in comparison to total targets, and Evans had one of the lower rates. Just food for thought.

Evans needs to go up an attack the ball and use his body to block out the defender instead of his hands. The calls will come.

  23. Buccfan37 Says:

Take Evans out of the game and the Bucs offense would be close to being back to square one.

  24. DavidbigBucsFan Says:

87 every time you and the fire Lovie sheep call him incompetent need to go read a dictionary. If he was incompetent he never would have been able to become a head coach of TWO NFL franchises. He’s stubborn to a fault and and maybe too nice to the players but incompetent he is not. I guarantee not one of you anus clowns could stand up to him in an IQ test let alone coach an NFL team.

  25. Buccfan37 Says:

It’s going to be cold up in StinkingPantherville for the late afternoon Sunday game. That should energize the Bucs.

  26. Trubucfan22 Says:

Oh stop it. It was bold and awesome for Jameis is say he wants to face JJ watt. But then Evans does a similar thing and the Joes get all bent out of shape. Norman is being considered the best CB his season. Why wouldn’t our young uber talented wr want to face him. See where he stacks up against one of the best. Joe’s already written that the bucs aren’t playing to win games anymore. So why not have a good battle with one of the bests?

  27. Buclife Says:

Evans sand the Bucs need to bring their A game. It will be their toughest game this season.

  28. godzilla13 Says:

Maybe it is a good idea if Winston does not target Evans if Norman is covering him? OBJ got into Normans head more than Norman got into his. It is a good idea for Evans to focus on catching the ball, not on Norman. Most sites have Evans at 14 drops which is a ways from the record held by Braylon Edwards at 19. Heck, even TO had 17 one year. SportingCharts.com has Evans at 11 and also has Ted Gin Jr at 10 and Demaryius Thomas also at 10. I never hear about Gin Jr or Thomas dropping passes, just Evans. Mike Evans is a beast and will be an All-Pro someday.

  29. DoNUTS Says:

OBJ got into Normans head more than Norman got into his.< Evans and OBJ…its not even close. When you are shutting down Dex, Julio, and DeAndre in one year….who are better than Evans or OBJ…it says alot.

In time, that may change but for now it is what it is…
I suspect we will get curb stomped today by a great Carolina team that has been built over the past 5 years. In stark comparison to this Bucs team. My biggest issue is talent eval and inability to change at halftime by Lovie, which I think gets him the boot next year.

I speak the truth…even when it hurts. Go Bucs!

  30. DoNUTS Says:

Last time I checked, it was OBJ standing on the side lines suspended not Norman so who was in who’s head?

Norman > Evans and OBJ…its not even close. When you are shutting down Dex, Julio, and DeAndre in one year….who are better than Evans or OBJ…it says alot.

Sorry for the duplicate post but it cut if off first time.

  32. Patrick in VA Says:

How about you figure out how to catch the ball. Then you can trash talk and get excited about matchups. He’s having trouble catching the ball in an open field, I don’t want to heat about him being excited about going up against top defenders.
