Flop Like Jenkins

January 6th, 2016
Bucs CB Mike Jenkins has a signature play in what may be his final game as a Bucs defender.

CB Mike Jenkins had a signature play in what may have been his final Bucs game.

Before the 2014 season, when Bucs coach Lovie Smith made his bromance with dubious cornerback Mike Jenkins public knowledge, Joe howled in disgust.

This didn’t go over so well with the local University of South Florida crowd. They didn’t want to believe Jenkins, a USF product who the then-rotten Raiders didn’t even want, became a bust of a former first-round pick allergic to tackling with the Cowboys.

Now, after Jenkins’ two seasons with Lovie (only one healthy), it appears Bucs fans finally have come to realize why Joe was aghast when Jenkins was signed.

You heard the term “Flop like a fish,” right? Well, on the play below, as you can see from Jenkins’ tackling style, the term should be changed to “Flop like Jenkins.”

Sunday ought to have been Jenkins’ final game with Tampa Bay, if Lovie is serious about upgrading his cornerback stable.

That is how you play the Lovie-2 Defense. Simple as that.

  2. Lord Cornelius Says:

Lmao perfectly sums up his play

My favorite is when a WR drops a wide open pass and he acts like it was his doing

  3. No_Bucs_Given Says:

He slipped. They even said during the game the field was slippery. He sucks but anyone can slip…

  4. The Buc Realist Says:

Mike Jenkins will be in the “top ten” out of the 99 reasons lovie will be fired next year!!!!

    @Joe
maybe that should be the summer/off time list!!! top 20 reasons lovie will be fired!!!

  5. Bucco Brice Says:

pass rush and coverage are the obvious issues…if this team doesn’t get aggressive with upgrading the secondary talent then it’s another season full of sh*tty defense. Weddle and Berry are free agents…break the bank on them and hopefully hargreaves or ramsey drop to #9…pass rush?…a tougher fix

  6. D-Rome Says:

I’m glad you pointed this out Joe. I noticed this immediately during the game. The game against the Panthers was all about evaluating for 2016. Jenkins cannot continue to be a part of this team. The film doesn’t lie.

  7. Thibs5599 Says:

Pass rush? Blitz David more guy can rush the passers and deserves more opportunities. When given the chance he has gotten sacks. Not saying this fixes all the issues butbjust because we’re Tampa doesn’t mean we have to play “tampa 2”. I know Lovie prefers it but this team needs a chance and defensive scheme is definitely one of them.

Don’t be that guy. You sound silly. The Bucs rarely used the Tampa-2 coverage this year.

  9. Supersam Says:

There was problems with the footing on the feild, even the blind and old Dick Stockton said the feild was garbage, nice try Joe but everyone was slipping, I saw Doug Martin do 2 face plants trying to make a cutback.

  10. BucTrooper Says:

The Crab Walk Tackle Style. Nice.

  11. Espo Says:

It is written in the ancient scroll found in the mounds of Wesson Island that all Tampa football must play Tampa 2 all the time or have naive fans who wouldn’t recognize a quarters defense if it gave up 85% completion percentage against the likes of the all mighty Case Keenum!! Do not try to change destiny or Greg Olsen will still be wide open forever1

  12. Howard Cosell Says:

    Lol.
I think the Bucs are awesome.

  13. Espo Says:

    @ D Rome
They actually seem to run the same defense I do during pickup basketball games. I took at my opponent from afar and hope the ball bounces my way.

  14. Architek Says:

He’s been doing that all season – I’ve been seeing him sliding and slipping all season. He’s trash

  15. StPeteBucsFan Says:

The field was slippery for ALL the players and none of the other DB’s on either team nor any LB’s looked so incompetent approaching a tackle..he tangled his feet as well as slipping.

But if Joe wanted to really illustrate Jenkins real weakness he’d have posted a link to the infamous play with the Cowboys where rather than make a tackle or even ATTEMPTING one he simply moved aside like a Matador letting the bull go by for an uncontested touchdown. If it’s not against blog rules here’s a youtube link to a Dallas fan who uses tape to show just how disgusted they were with Jenkins play. It’s actually funny.

Warning NSFW…the audio needs to be turn downed because the fan just gets to peoed and drops an f bomb or two..but the video shows it all. Watch this video and tell me Joe is wrong!!! Jenkins is just awful the video from Dallas proves it.

man i miss Ronde coming up and sticking that little swing pass

  17. Buccfan37 Says:

Carolina did not seem to have much of a problem with the slippery field. The Bucs played like they were on a giant slip and slide.

  18. Ray Rice Says:

MF was on all fours like a Vegas hooker!

  19. StPeteBucsFan Says:

I think Mike Jenkins has one major problem. He HATES contact. Since he doesn’t have the cover skills of Deion Sanders he doesn’t get a pass in the critical area of tackling. It’s not just that he’s a bad tackler…he plays afraid of contact and it’s clear.

  20. Joe Says:

MF was on all fours like a Vegas hooker!

    You know this how? 🙂

  21. grafikdetail Says:

jenkins needs to go but the field was a mess Sunday & all of our skill guys were flopping around LOL

  22. ATrain Says:

Again another sign of Lovies incompetence as a Coach..

He played this Suck player for too many games then put him back in the last game ..Why. So he could hope Jenkins looked decent so Lovie could keep him..

    Bad Coach..

But the Media has been put on notice Sell the We need consistence and Lovie needs another year

  23. Buc1987 Says:

If Jenkins is on this team next season I won’t buy one damn ticket.

  24. Buc1987 Says:

It was funny when I read this comment on that youtube video.

    Jim Walker says :
“Welcome home to Tampa Mike. You’ll succeed with a real coach.”

    Bwahahahahahahaha

  25. Big Marlon B Says:

he wanted NO part of Mike Tolbert in the open field. they would still be looking for his helmet if he made contact.
