Popular sports radio and television personality Adam Schein was no fan of Lovie.

Popular sports radio and television personality Adam Schein was no fan of Lovie.

Joe still shakes his head at the childish reactions by too many national media folks who erupted in anger at Team Glazer waving goodbye to Lovie Smith.

Some of these same folks dropped the word “unjustified,” at the firing. That tells Joe they simply were not following the Bucs closely, or still thought it was 2006 and Lovie was coaching the Bears.

Well, popular sports radio and CBS television personality Adam Schein is one guy who didn’t believe in Lovie. Back on Oct. 5, the following is what he had to say about Lovie.

(Caution: it is not pretty).

“Lovie, just do me a favor and save everybody some time,” Schein said. “Just pack up your office now. Lovie Smith is ruining the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. I mean if you are surprised, you are just not paying attention. This defense is getting shredded. This is Lovie’s defense. He’s calling the plays.

“Lovie, just do me a favor. Pack your office. The nice people in Tampa Bay deserve more than watching your dreadful football team.

“Dropped passes, dropped interceptions, bad management, mental mistakes: Also known as a regular Sunday for Lovie Smith and the Buccaneers. My goodness, save Tampa. Get Lovie out of town.”

So when Schein learned Tuesday night of Lovie’s fate, he couldn’t wait to get behind the microphone of his entertaining show, “Schein on Sports,” found on “Mad Dog Radio,” part of the family of sports channels heard exclusively on SiriusXM Radio.

Schein pulled no punches.

“A shocker? Absolutely. The right move? Oh, ho… ho… ho… ho! You betcha. Yyyooouuu betcha!” Schein said. “Let me make sure I am the voice of sanity and reason. I have been chomping at the bit since [the Bucs] Tweeted [Lovie’s firing] last night.

“On Oct. 5 – Oct. 5! – [I was] begging Lovie Smith to clean out his office. Why? Two things: A) I knew. B) He’s awful!

“Can we have this conversation? Seriously. Can we have this conversation? Because I am sick and tired of listening to the media elites over the last 12 hours crying about poor Lovie Smith. Let me tell you something about poor Lovie Smith: He can’t coach. He can’t win. He’s horrible at his job. You know what he is? A super nice guy. He’s got a lot of allies. Whether it is like players who like playing for him – I get it because Lovie is a nice guy. He has got allies in the media. Nationally? Oh!

“You would think, I don’t know, Lovie Smith did a good job in Tampa. Let me tell you my take on Lovie Smith’s time in Tampa: As a wise man once said, ‘WTF. Yo.’ The guy went 8-24. Eight wins, 24 losses. Can we please jog the mental rolodex to when Greg Schiano and Mark Dominik were canned and you guys know I said give them another year. Oh, they hired the anti-Schiano. Lovie Smith, great guy, good with the players.

“They didn’t hire Lovie Smith to rebuild. They hired him to win right away. You know what he did in his first year? He won two freaking games! Two games! Two games!

“Or, the better way to describe that, ‘WTF. Yo.’

“Lovie Smith is horrible at his job. Horrible. He can’t coach. He missed the playoffs. Let me just clue everybody in. In five of his last six years in Chicago [he missed the playoffs] and then he goes to Tampa in a year – ‘Ah, we’ve got the players. We just need someone to fix it.’ – Remember how he botched the Josh McCown/Mike Glennon competition? Gave Josh McCown the job?

“Lovie is supposed to be a defensive genius. How’s that defense been the past two years? Riddle me that, Lovie Smith shills. I want to know. I want to know, come on.

“Or, a better way to phrase it, ‘WTF. Yo.’

“Wow. Lovie Smith fired. A huge shocker. Also, the right move. They were 6-6, they finished 6-10. He took the play-calling duties away from Leslie Frazier on defense. Then they started the year, they couldn’t play any defense. I mean, come on. Come on. Can we get a grip? Can we get a clue?

“Now, the Glazer Family can do some wacky things in Tampa, I have to acknowledge that. They should have never fired Gruden. I personally felt they should have kept Dominik and Schiano. We’ve talked about that.

“Let me tell you something: Don’t listen to the shills.”

Schein also had very, very interesting things to say about Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht and the list of potential coaches the Bucs can pick up. Joe will have those takes later today.

In short, Schein felt the Bucs got better Wednesday night.

WOW, I guess he had enough of the Tampa2-mafia!!!! all his points are spot on!!

I hope we get the coaches soon so we can go Mark McGwire!!! “I’m not here to talk about the past. I’m here to talk about the positive and not the negative of the Future”!!!!!

  4. Phil Says:

I been saying the same thing. The day they hired Smith I said if that is their choice I would have rather they kept Schiano. Lovie is a terrible coach. I am so glad he is gone. Now maybe this team can get better and win some games.

  5. DallasBuc Says:

    Whew! Sounds like DallasBuc!!

  6. The Buc Realist Says:

  10. Jolly Bucs Fan Says:

I was ok with schianos firing due to the debacles and players hating him. But if either he or lovie deserved a third year it was most def schiano

DallasBuc….I was thinking the same thing. Sounds like DallasBuc. Then again there’s always this.

“It’s as simple as that!” – Lovie Smith aka “I’m a Head Coach in the NFL and YOU’RE just a B!TCH posting on a blog!”

  12. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Sick of very far outsiders like stephen A and Jemile Hill scream racism at this firing.. they just look at 2-14 to 6-10 and think its an improvement, but they are not here and do not look at all the horrible personnel moves lovie made nor look at the week to week defensive game preperations that seemed to not be made. Lovie had 5 months to prepare for the Titans and Mariotta and they lit the bucs up and embarassed the team and city and made Jameis a laughing stock compared to Mariotta. My point is the people far removed from the past 730 days of the Lovie admin did not see his horrible blunders at every step of the way. Whomever is the next HC will now get unnecessary criticism from these jagoff far away pundits and two posters here on joebucs… im glad lovie is gone he was terrible, i thought schiano deserved another year but i was wrong, now this next coach will get same scrutiny and its deserved, I/WE deserve a championship caliber football team every year

  13. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Dominick….really built through the draft…..YO……WTF….

  14. lurker Says:

I usually dislike shein’s whine…but this was spot on.

  15. Patrickbucs Says:

    @bucrealist

Can you please calm down on the exclamation points Elaine?

  16. DallasBuc Says:

Dusthty- according to Bonzai we do not deserve a good football team in Tampa. I guess because we want competent coaching and leadership and aren’t willing to accept the mediocrity that LovieDovie was striving to achieve.

  17. Buc1987 Says:

I just wrote a long drawn out post about this dude that stopped me at the gate this season for bringing a WTF sign to the game and Joe censored my post for no damn reason. There is nothing in my post that would have picked up the filter. So either Joe can read what we type as we type and filter on the spot if he doesn’t like the comment or I missed the word. I corrected the wording 3 times for the filters to go through. I tried everything. So this leads me to believe I’m being censored.

NOTHING pisses me off more than censorship in America. Perhaps it’s time for me to get a name over at PR. Give that place an adrenaline shot. I’m not needed here.

Then again Joe always says the comments section means nothing to him as far as hits. Guess what Joe? Take away the comments section altogether and let’s see how many hits you get then…

  18. Brandon Says:

Dominik and Schiano should have never been hired. What is Schein’s background again? Did he even play high school football? How does he know what coach can and can’t do their jobs? Say what you want about Lovie Smith, but Greg Freaking Schiano??? That dude was far worse than Lovie, his defense in his first season was far worse, his offense in his second season was nearly as bad as Marcus Arroyo’s. His record was a tad better than Smith’s… that despite leaving Smith complete and total roster garbage at 75% of all positions. Dominik was terrible (Derrick Ward, Michael Clayton contracts-Adrian Clayborn, DaQuan Bowers, Mark Barron wasted terrible picks… no ability to evaluate and draft an offensive lineman) but Schiano… he was actually worse. The team folded on him his last season, they got worse despite all that money going to Revis and Jackson and Carl Nicks and high picks spent on Barron, Bowers, McCoy, and Clayborn, Even when Schiano completely sucked he couldn’t do that right, winning a meaningless late season game to push us out of premium draft position for the next season. That guy’s a tool and it’s no wonder why he hasn’t secured a job working as anything in the NFL.

  19. ToesOnTheLine!!! Says:

Schien is a little harsher on Lovie than I am (I’m not sure I’d call him terrible coach…overrated name…sure, terrible…he did a terrible job in Tampa, but he’s still probably a mediocre HC), but holy crap beyond that small difference this dude is reading my freakin’ mind on everything else! Again I say this move took balls….the Glazer’s have always seemed like they hate negative press. I think they’re trying to field a winning (and lucrative) product, hopefully the fourth time is the charm with HC (although I will go to my grave believing Schiano would have improved as a HC for the Bucs…ah well, water under the bridge)

  20. WyldKat Says:

    Ouch. Yo.

  21. ToesOnTheLine!!! Says:

    @ Brandon

Schiano played high school and college football (LB)…pretty much the same amount of playing experience as Lovie has. Makes the rest of your rant pointless…

  22. Tampa Tony Says:

This guy is normally a whiny dork but since he agrees with me I’ll say he knows what he’s talking about. With the exception of keeping Dominik, that guy was awful at everything that a gm is responsible for

  23. Bucsfanmman Says:

I sure do hope the new HC (Koetter) can win some football games.
@Dallas- leadership starts at the top. 4 HCs in 8 years! Pittsburgh hasn’t had 4 in their entire existence. The Glazers know nothing about football so why is firing Lovie going to change anything?
There is no questioning the supporting arguments to fire Lovie. It just makes no sense to me to do it now. Restructure? Sure. Remove certain personnel duties? Definitely. But is 2 years enough to retool a horrific offense and a terrible defense? I’m not sold. If year 3 is bad, then heck yeah, get him out. That makes more sense.
I guess more than anything, I’m just a little baffled. We’re paying Lovie to sit at home instead of allowing him to draft D and turn this around.
I’m tired of the revolving door. This had better pay off, I’m sick of it!

  24. ToesOnTheLine!!! Says:

    @Brandon

Oops, owe you an apology…you said Schein not Schiano. Still don’t agree with your assessment of Schiano…agree to disagree

  25. passthebuc Says:

I wish he would stop soft peddling his comments and tell it like it is.

  26. Supersam Says:

    Ah men to that.

  27. D-Rome Says:

In short, Schein felt the Bucs got better Wednesday night.

Well, if they did then the expectation for next season should not change for anyone. Joe said 8-8. I say 9-7. The Buccaneers have the same record as the Browns over the past five seasons. Since they fired Jon Gruden all we’ve heard from this dysfunctional organization is that their “committed to winning”. Yesterday was no exception.

The Glazers should have been at the press conference yesterday to explain to the fan base, especially their season ticket holders, how **this time** is going to be different. I would have liked to hear their response to the fan base as to why the fans should have any confidence in the organization moving forward.

Before anyone gets it twisted I’m not crying for Lovie. I’ve moved on. I’ve had disagreements with some of you, including Joe, over the past several years I’ve been participating in this blog (since 2009 I think). Despite some of our differences I think everyone here are honest to goodness Buccaneers fans who are tired of getting kicked in the head. As fans we should demand better from this ownership group. If going from 10-6 to 4-12 with Raheem, 7-9 to 4-12 with Schiano, and 2-12 to 6-10 with Lovie was unacceptable then it should be unacceptable for this team to take a step backwards next season. It should be unacceptable especially if they’re “committed to winning.”

  28. pick6 Says:

not that i fault national analysts for declining to watch bucs games closely the last 2 years, but it’s good to know at least one was paying attention. everybody else’s take begins and ends with going from 2 wins to 6 and only giving a coach 2 years, instead of actually evaluating how competitive the bucs were, how many more holes he created on the roster by running off capable players, or how many defensive players were putting the worst football of their lives on film on his watch. you have a defensive specialist whose defense has gotten worse in 2 straight years despite having no youth or inexperience to blame on that side of the ball.

  29. pick6 Says:

anybody questioning this firing needs to watch tape of 3 QBs playing against us: Marcus Mariota in his first professional football game; matt hasselbeck’s 150% passing performance against us; and Case Keenum. if they need more convincing, they should watch our defenders bite anytime an offense runs any sort of misdirection play. after 2 years of a veteran unit with a couple elite talents, you have to look at it and say “can you at least get them to play at a schiano level?”

  30. D-Rome Says:

    Buc1987,

As a suggestion you should copy everything you type before clicking on Submit Comment. I don’t believe for one second that Joe actively censors anyone here.

  31. Buc1987 Says:

D-Rome…I have a copy of it and it trust me. I can’t find the filtered word. These are words I’ve used numerous times in the past. I tried four times re-wording it to be a little less harsh. I’ve put slashes through all different words and it usually works. It’s been over an hour. Where’s the post then?

It might be because I was talking about some dude at the gate that reminded me of Stephen A Smith.

  32. Buc1987 Says:

I know he’s busy dude. Especially in light of recent events, but after 4 tries one has to wonder. I think I remember the word “crap” not going through at one time or another so I’ll click the submit now button and see if this post goes through as that was pretty much the only word left that I didn’t alter to make it go through.

If it doesn’t go through…then I WILL take a long break from JBF. It’s not some kind of a threat like I think I’m special or something. It all boils down to being censored for my opinions.

  33. Trubucfan22 Says:

I agreed all the way to the point about schiano and Dom deserving another season. Schiano did not deserve another season. He lost his team, and that is a death sentence.

  34. CalBucsFan Says:

No doubt Lovie walking the plank has lit up this website Joe, every no-it-all is coming out of the shadows. It should be a very entertaining off-season for all us Buc fans!

  35. CalBucsFan Says:

It would be a lot more professional of some of the talking heads just acknowledged they feel bad for Lovie the person, not Lovie the coach, because any of them who think he did a good job the last two years just hasn’t been watching very closely. I get that he’s a real likable guy, but that’s irrelevant.

As Al Davis said, “Just win baby”, and that’s not been the case with Lovie-in-charge, it’s as simple as that.

  36. Elle Says:

Adam Schein really gets it. Glad to know there’s someone out there, among the national media, who isn’t an arrogant fool willing to comment on a firing without bothering to examine the Bucs’ situation in depth. People who worked with Lovie in the past made me sick yesterday, such as Herm Edwards, who was acting like a friggen drama queen. Disgusting.

  37. D-Rome Says:

As Al Davis said, “Just win baby”, and that’s not been the case with Lovie-in-charge, it’s as simple as that.

In case you haven’t noticed that has not been the case since Malcom’s sons took over the franchise.

  38. jdfly030 Says:

This article would have been complete if he would have mentioned the endless blank stares at the jumbo tron by Lovie.

  39. unbelievable Says:

@87, I think sometimes the blog comments just get messed up, probably based on whatever wordpress plugin/theme he is using. I’ve noticed over the last few days some articles were only showing the last 10 – 20 comments, not all of them.

Also, I’ve experienced not being able to post my comments at all from Firefox- it would say submitted but never actually appear. However with Chrome I have no issues posting.

  40. unbelievable Says:

And now mine is being moderated 🙂

  41. Buc1987 Says:

No, it’s been about 4 hours now and my post never went through. Joe’s trying to be the the anti-Trump. This was a move in political correctness. I know it’s his site and his rules, but what I posted SHOULD have went through. SOMEBODY is screening posts out there as we type.

Joe you are the very definition of what Trump’s been saying. Then you libs wonder why he has so much support. I actually was NOT going to vote for the guy. I have Carson sticker on my car. Now I get what Trump is saying. He now has my vote too. It’s HAS to stop.

  42. Buc1987 Says:

Oh and goodbye until the draft….

  43. Buccfan37 Says:

Forget it 87, none of the candidates you support are worth a sh*t. That’s because the whole fake two sided game is a complete sham. The American people think they are making a decision for the future when in fact it is already planned out precisely. Evil wins again.

  44. StopyankingWattsnuts Says:

What happens if Dirk doesnt win what will most of you clowns say we should gave Lovie one more chance. You clowns didnt want Jameis now you want to have his kids you smucks dont know squat

  45. Buccfan37 Says:

    WTF yo. ditto.

  46. satchseven Says:

this is a joke, I was shocked at the crappy level of talent in tampa. I never watched you guys until you got Winston and was shocked at the level of talent on that team you will be 8-8 tops next year because you still need two good drafts. you had 10 nfl players top the rest are bad to marginal

  47. satchseven Says:

and screw the talking heads who never coached or played at least d-1 ball. these nerds are ruining teams. look at the nba team in philly that no ball playing fool has killed that team
