What’s The Matter With People?

December 27th, 2015
Some folks need counseling.

Some folks need counseling.

As Bobby Bowden might have said, “Why, people have plumb lost their dang-gum minds.”

Joe was actually getting Twitters late in the game today claiming the problem with the Bucs is not the sieve of a secondary in Lovie Smith’s defense, is not impotent pass rush, is not the chronic dropsies of Bucs receivers.

No, the fools say the problem with the Bucs is America’s Quarterback, Bucs signal-caller Jameis Winston.

Can you imagine?

One such person Joe dared to engage on Twitter had the gall to suggest Mike Glennon be given the keys to the franchise because he’s — hold on to your jock straps — proven.

Proven? Proven he couldn’t beat out a clod like Stewart McClown? Proven that he was so effective in the past two seasons that the Bucs went out and made a major investment in a franchise quarterback?

Good Lord, the sales of Crown Royal must have been brisk today.

Jameis is putting up numbers with some of the better rookie quarterbacks in recent years. And he’s the problem? Jameis has passes dropped right and left and he is the problem?

Folks, if the Bucs didn’t have Jameis, Lovie would already have his office cleaned out at One Buc Palace. If not for Jameis, this is maybe a three-win team. Maybe.

No less an authority than former Bears general manager and former Bucs long-time pro personnel man Jerry Angelo told the Chicago Tribune last week that the only difference between the Bucs last year and this year is that they have a promising rookie quarterback.

But, no, Jameis is the problem.

Time for some people to call AA.

Why are we enabling said Twitter lunatics with this waste of an article? No sane fan shares this opinion. What’s next, a post on someone complaining about Conner Barth?

  2. NJBucsFan Says:

Ok…I was anti-Winston prior to the draft. I am beyond pleased that we have him. His play has far exceeded my expectations even with the lead boot known as Lovie Smith as his coach. Winston will be great and this is not on him.

  3. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Joe…..what a red herring!!!……You raise some fool’s opinion that is shared by virtually no one….so you can defend Winston when no defense is necessary.

It’s fortunate for you that this article will be likely ignored….because you missed the mark on this one.

  4. OnlyGodnoles Says:

    @Leighroy LMFAO

  5. BrianBucs Says:

Jameis Winston is still a 21 year old rookie and today he played like one.
Winston wasn’t the reason the Bucs lost again today as there is plenty of blame to go around. He was however a big part of it.
Just give the young man time to mature and develope. There is no substitute for experience.
    As for the coaching……………….

  6. Joe Says:

What’s next, a post on someone complaining about Conner Barth?

    Oh, Joe got those too.

  7. This Guy Right Here Says:

This is just nonsense…. But on another note, uhh Lovie, you can go sit on Sterling Moore’s junk, and finish it with a Jude, – a Jenk- and a Jennings all over your back…

    Fcuk You Lovie.

  8. Leighroy Says:

Joe, im sure you did, and that’s precisely my point. I, like many readers, come to this site to read informed opinions about bucs news, especially after the game. Not the reactions to some drunk who tweets the Joes. This is turning into the CNN of the Bucs inter webs.

  9. Buccfan37 Says:

Whatever, nobody said his name that shall not be mentioned is the same or better than Winston.

  10. HIRE JIMBO Says:

There were idiots in the thread during the game calling for MG8. These are the kind of people walking around using up all of our good clean air. Lol
    FIRE LOVIE

  11. tnew Says:

I saw several calls for MG8 on the open thread. This is crazy. There is 0 reason to call for Glennon over Winston, unless you are so Gator that you still think Derrick Brooks is overrated (I’ve spoken with some of those) or you think that pro QB’s should be lighter in skin tone than Winston (ran into several of those as well)

I am one that thought MG8 was totally mishandled by the Bucs. I don’t think he ever got a really fair shake. Bringing in McCown for a win now project was not defendable.

Being said, Winston is special. Our wr corps is weak at best. Evans will improve, Humphries may turn into a 4th or possession slot guy (needs to get coached up).

Expecting perfection from him is crazy. If you want to speak to me about how we can’t stop the run anymore, can’t rush the passer (thought GMC had his best game in a long time today so kudos there) can’t stop the passing game etc.

On the interception, classic rookie play with a bad defense. He knew that a field goal wouldn’t work so he forced the play. Rookies do this, but guys, this is his first red zone INT. Not quite a pattern.

His four deep balls were all pretty close. I know that the two were under thrown but how about a high point catch Evans, (who also had a nice game)

The philosophy that we play is tough. Predicated on the opposing offense making a mistake. On offense, Lovie’s philosophy is for us to have 0 turnovers from the run and maybe 8 or so INTS from Jameis a season. Not sure thats realistic.

Im disappointed in the entire team, including Winston, but he’s the least of my worries.

  12. Erik with Clean Athletics Says:

Jameis is a Superstar in the making. You can take that to the bank.

If you take away the drops this year, Jameis has 4,500-5000 passing yards right now and like 28 TD.

He’s an absolute stud and he’s gonna prove to be one of the most clutch and successful QB’s in history.

    Pressure Jameis= Beat Bucs

  14. BrianBucs Says:

Bucs seem to really have major issues against teams that run a 3-4 defense

    Pressure Jameis= Beat Bucs

Precisely…that minus Kwon is the reason for a potentially 0-4 Decenber.

  16. tnew Says:

Cant emphasize enough how much the loss of VJAX affected the team as well.

  17. Trubucfan22 Says:

Sure the kid was a little off today. And he hasnt been able to really take over games like an elite qb should. But to even mention glennon on this team is idiotic. Truly shows how stupid some people are.

  18. Luther Says:

I’ll tell you what really pissed me off today on two of the long throws. The ball was where it needed to be…Evans and the other receiver waited for the ball to come down instead of attacking it at its highest point. You saw in the Atlanta game where Julio Jones went up to get the ball and came away with a touchdown. I’m not saying Jameis was perfect today, but those two throws were as much as anyone could ask for in those situations. Other than that, it really just came down to untimely penalties and turnovers.

  19. Buc1987 Says:

Tampabaybucfan …wrong. SillySam and BucNut0 were both at it today in the live thread blaming everything on the rookie QB.

So Joe’s not over-making stuff up. There is a few idiots still out there…

  20. Tampa Tony Says:

He’s a rookie and very promising. We’ve seen Glennon check down and run out of bounds before the marker to avoid getting hit, and lead the Bucs to 5 wins in his career.

    Glennon is garbage

  21. Kelvin Says:

Hey joe I don’t think Winston is the sole problem but after evaluating n be totally honest you’ve done a great job pointing out the drops but until today nobody has brought up the fact that outside of the reskins game when he hit Evans in stride he typically under or overthrows wide open wr that should be touchdowns, today Winston said as much elite qbs hit those throws so while the drops have hurt I think Winston has been the worse deep ball passer all year he’s not good at it

  22. Kelvin Says:

Typo lol I meant to put he isn’t the sole problem but he’s part of the problem with his inaccuracy throwing deep

  23. godzilla13 Says:

What about the game Koetter called? The Bears knew when we were going to run and they would put 8 or 9 in the box . Martin had no where to run. Offense is way to predictable. Winston gets pressured part of the reason is no one is open. Need better receivers. VJAX out is a death sentence.

  24. Joe Says:

that you still think Derrick Brooks is overrated (I’ve spoken with some of those) or you think that pro QB’s should be lighter in skin tone than Winston (ran into several of those as well)

    Good grief. smh

  25. Joe Says:

    Two things:

Hey joe I don’t think Winston is the sole problem but after evaluating n be totally honest you’ve done a great job pointing out the drops but until today nobody has brought up the fact that outside of the reskins game when he hit Evans in stride he typically under or overthrows wide open wr that should be touchdowns, today Winston said as much elite qbs hit those throws so while the drops have hurt I think Winston has been the worse deep ball passer all year he’s not good at it

Dave Moore said recently Mike Evans doesn’t finish his routes, which makes it look like the quarterback (doesn’t matter who) is overthrowing. Seems to have some merit.

And Winston is not the kind of guy to throw any of his teammates under the bus. He will take a bullet for his teammates way before he outs someone.

  26. waterboy Says:

Hahaha thanks for the laugh on this one Joe! Glennon’s not a bad QB and I actually like the guy as a QB if you can’t draft high enough to get a franchise QB. He showed signs of potential but I also remember how bad the offensive line looked when he played and it makes me wonder whether they weren’t motivated by him or whether he held the ball too long and made them look worse than they really were. Since he’s been on the bench they seem like a whole different unit or maybe it’s just that the rookie LT or rookie RG is making them that much better, who knows but all I can say is Glennon isn’t on the level of Jameis and he couldn’t have ever made the 3rd and 20 play that Jameis made in the Atlanta game to lead that game winning drive and keep them in the playoff hunt at the time.

Readers come to Joe’s because Joe allows people to voice their opinion.

  28. Cat Says:

Mariota fans always come out of hiding whenever the Bucs lose.

  29. Christina Says:

I worry Winston will read stuff like this! I hope he knows how much the real fans appreciate all the amazing attributes he brought to our pathetic excuse for an NFL team

  30. Nick2 Says:

Im kind of laughing that we have ignorant fans who think our greatest strength and promise for the future is whats wrong with this team. Jameis??? Really?? Thank god we at least have him!!!

  31. Lord Cornelius Says:

Winston made some great plays in that game but also missed some and his turnover in the red zone gave momentum back to the Bears for the rest of the game. He’s a rookie tho and easily the best QB I’ve seen play in a Bucs uniform in my lifetime lol

  32. Idontwannahearitanymore Says:

Nice joke, Joe! I didn’t realize you were such a troll yourself.

  33. unbelievable Says:

Joe, they are tolls, and probably many of the same like superlame, bucnut and others who post on almost every thread saying that every loss is JW;s fault.

Was he perfect yesterday? Not at all, but far from this team’s biggest problem. A 21yr old rookie is already one of the top 5 – 6 players on this team, and has more fire and passion than anyone.

As I said, they’re just trolls. Do not engage.

  34. Peoplearedumb Says:

If you want stupidity consider that people are blaming the loss on Winston’s INT at the goal-line. Let’s examine how magnificently stupid this is. If Winston threw the ball away from the onslaught coming straight him, okay, we likely get 3 points. A meaningless 3 points. No effect on the outcome of the game whatsoever, especially b/c our defense was getting destroyed.

The INT is actually one of the BEST plays Winston made that game! If our guy makes the play on the ball he should’ve, we score 7, we lead the game, our defense is instilled with newfound confidence, and the entire complexion of the game changes.

The problem is people don’t think, they just spew out of their lizard brains when they’re emotional.
