“Look, I don’t care what Urban Meyer f#$%’n says, we’re keeping the damn meeting room at 68.7 degrees.”

Former Bucs commander Greg Schiano has found a job, and you just knew somehow it would be among friends.

That’s usually where guys with lots of enemies and detractors find work.

Moments ago, BSPN announced Schiano will be named the new defensive coordinator and assistant head coach of Ohio State University, under his old friend Urban Meyer. And both Schiano and Meyer are longtime pals and devotees of Bill Belicheat.

Joe has no idea whether this means Schiano will come off Team Glazer’s payroll. But Joe is sure Schiano is well rested and ready to start teaching and screaming like a wild man on campus. A couple of years of chilling in South Tampa and working part-time for BSPN will do that for a man.

Joe wishes Schiano well.

IAW PFT, Schiano replaces the person who is going to be the head coach at Rutgers and replace the person who replaced Schiano there! What irony!

  2. Hawaiian Buc Says:

He’s much better suited for college football. I would suspect he will do well there, especially with all the loads of talent he will have.

  3. LargoBuc Says:

I think Schiano could be a good coach in the NFL someday. I think he learned, but unfortunatley the bridge between him and the locker room was beyond repair.

  4. Pick6 Says:

i think last year concluded his Glazers-funded sabbatical, gotta go back to work now

  5. Espo Says:

He deserves to live in a place like Ohio. Hope he leaves here.

  6. The Buc Realist Says:

Good luck to you Coach Schaino. Those in the know will remember him as the hero that took down mark dominik!!!!

For rescuing the franchise from that clown shoe we all say thank you!!!!

  8. Lord Cornelius Says:

Lol worst NFL coach in recent memory

  9. Macabee Says:

While all NFL coaches contracts are guaranteed, almost all have offset language. Schiano is owed 3.1mil in 2016. OSU DC will not be making 3.1mil. He is likely to sill get some Glazer money in 2016. The offset of 3.1mil and his official OSU salary.

Mean while Dumbinik is still out of football showing how bad of a gm he was

I truly don’t understand all this Shiano hate.

Yes he wasn’t successful with the bucs…..but the man knows football and defense versus many of you dumb couch potatoes sitting at home hating away on your keyboards.

I wish the man nothing but well wishes for him and his family.

  13. Colorado_Bucs_Fan Says:

I actually like shiano but hey life.

  14. Espo Says:

Blitzing 9/10 of the time is not knowing defense. I don’t care who our ends are.

    Well said, I agree.

  16. Owlykat Says:

Good riddance. We won’t have to be concerned about Ohio State winning any more National Championships with dumb Shiano running their defense. But then they didn’t even win the Big Ten this year despite great talent.

  17. Bucs Fan Since '76 Says:

All this means is he’s the next head coach at OSU. Urban won’t be there much longer. I think his next stop is the Browns.

  18. Buccfan37 Says:

Urban Meyer only goes into stacked talent situations because his overall winning percentage is his first priority. I see Schiano as a boost to Ohio State’s program. Drat! Sick of Ohio State.

  19. Pickgrin Says:

a college DC is not exactly a great next coaching job for a former NFL coach. I guess baby steps are required in order for Mr Toes on the Line to repair his credibility after the debacle of his 2 year tenure in Tampa Bay. Dom should follow suit and hire himself out as a capologist to some team which is honestly the one thing he was any good at. Talent evaluating and decision making for an NFL team’s personnel? Not so much…

Good Luck coach Shiano – and thanks for tidying up the lockerroom which was badly needed after Rha left. And for saving us from guaranteeing Freeman a boatload of $….

  20. LUVMYBUCS Says:

University of Illinois could’ve used Schiano. But decided to roll with Bill Cubit.

    smh

I would never argue he doesn’t know football. In fact, there isn’t a pro or college coach in America that doesn’t know twice of what all of us know. However, as someone whose father coached for over 40 years, coaching is far more than knowing the game. Especially as you get to the pros, it is much more so about managing people and gaining the respect of the players. In the pros, you do command respect, you earn respect. In college, most of the time you can command respect because your players are much younger and are not professionals. This is why I say Schiano is much better suited to being a college coach. That’s not necessarily a knock on him, just reality. He came into this organization and tried to treat grown men like high school kids. That’s never going to work, especially when you aren’t getting the results on the field. Why do the players continue to work for Lovie, even after a 2-14 season? It’s because he has earned their respect, and he respects them as men. Everyone at this level knows X’s and O’s. They wouldn’t be there if they didn’t. But Schiano was a terrible fit at the professional level. Everyone can play the “if he had more time” and “he got better” game all they want, but there is absolutely zero evidence to support that. If it were true, he would have gotten work in the NFL. Schiano is a smart guy, I’m pretty sure he knows it as well. He’ll do just fine in college, but he’s not a professional coach.

  22. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    * You do NOT command respect.

  23. BucFan20 Says:

There is only 2 people players are working for. That is the OC and Jameis . Not Lovie. And remember who made LVD look like a Brooks clone. And Lovie is getting next to nothing out of him. His problem was the little brats did not like the Boss telling them what to do. For the kind of money they make they do what the Boss says.

Lol. Great to have someone on this site with inside info on who the players work for. Also great to know you missed the last game when Lavonte made the game-winning INT. Nice to know you are paying attention!

  25. BucFan20 Says:

You mean when it was thrown right to him? That was so hard. This team has changed because of the OC and Winston.

  26. Hawaiian Buc Says:

“You mean when it was thrown right to him? That was so hard. This team has changed because of the OC and Winston.”

    ——

Your football ignorance is laughable. Lavonte made the right read and got his depth in time to make the pick. He also had 2 against Philly. I guess in your opinion it’s easy to make a pick in the NFL. How many do you have in your career?

  27. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @Bucfan20,

I never said this team hasn’t changed because of Winston. Qb’s tend to do that. But you are a complete fool if you think Schiano would have drafted Winston. He wouldn’t have drafted him in the 7th round. You are also a fool if you think Koetter would have been the OC for Schiano. Use your freaking brain man! You really sound stupid.

  28. BucFan20 Says:

    @Hawaiian
If you think throwing personal insults at me bothers me think again.

  29. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @Bucfan20,

That wasn’t a personal insult at all. Sounding stupid and being stupid are two totally different things. I say stupid things all the time – doesn’t mean I’m stupid. You are dead wrong on this topic. How you can not give Lovie credit is absolutely ridiculous. He’s done tons of things I don’t like, but you can’t deny that overall he has done a great job this year. Drafting Winston, hiring Koetter, getting our defense going (as of late) despite tons of injuries, and his ability to keep the guys believing in him have been extremely impressive. He will probably never be one of the best game managers, but it is very obvious he is doing a good job overall this year.

  30. BucFan20 Says:

    @ Hawaiian
Sorry we see different. But I never said I wanted Greg to stay only LVD was better under him. He could tackle and has been lost under Lovie. Winston and Koetter have turned this team around some with a do not lose attitude. Even the players say it is Winston. That is what I see with my eyes. The players did not like Greg because he was tough. They said so not me. I guess we just don’t see things the same.

  31. GoBucs76 Says:

Best wishes to Schiano. Didn’t work out here but talented enough to do well back at collegiate level. Seems to be a quality man and parent. For the haters in Tampa Bay – I feel bad you fill your life with such hate for people you don’t know. And I feel worse that you likely learned to treat others in such a manner in which you’ve been treated – you probably didn’t deserve it either. God Bless!

  32. Buxfan Says:

    Meh.

  33. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @bucfan20,

The players didn’t like Schiano because he didn’t treat them like men. This is what so many people don’t understand. This is a job go these players. This is how they make their living. They aren’t college kids held hostage by a free education and the lack of ability to transfer schools (without sitting out a year). I’m not sure how old you are, but assuming you are a grown man, I highly doubt you would be happy at your job if your boss was constantly yelling at you and treating you like a child. It doesn’t matter how much money they make.

  34. D-Rome Says:

That was stunning news to me until I read this post of yours Joe. I didn’t know Rural Meyer and Schiano were friends.

  35. Miguel Grande Says:

Hawaiian Buc must be drinking truth serum again!

  36. Johnny "America's Commenter" Dejay Says:

I don’t think the $3.1M the Bucs owe Schiano for 2016 matters a hill of beans in the grand scheme of things for the Buccaneers budget. I’m pretty sure they’ve been paying at least 2 head coaches every season since they fired Chucky. Think of all the money they wasted on free agent busts over the past few seasons, I’m guessing it’s at least $40M. Also, they will generate more than $3.1M in additional revenue by having a winning team in 2016.

  37. White Tiger Says:

Luke fricken’ Fickle, on his worst day, is infinitely better than allowing this moron the freedom to roam a Buckeye sideline.

The biggest need was at OC…hiring THIS guy has me questioning Urban’s sanity.

Buckeye Nation is not impressed with your accomplishments at Penn State and especially not at Rutgers…Greg, we actually don’t care how you did it at Rutgers.

BLECH, now my Saturday’s will offer as much excitement as my Sunday’s.
