Good news from the Bucs’ locker room this afternoon started with Ali Marpet walking around with his injured ankle bare and only a slight limp.

Joe talked to the rookie manbeast right guard, the pride of Division-III Hobart College, and Marpet said he doesn’t expect to practice in pads today but has hope to play Sunday.

Marpet said he’s had sprained ankles in high school from playing basketball and has a good sense of how the recovery goes. His current injury is not long term, he said.

Joe hopes the Bucs don’t rush Marpet back. He’s too valuable. Plus, offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter today talked about how fill-in Evan Smith, inserted in the first half against the Giants, was an outstanding performer, physical and on point.

    Twisted ankles can be hard to recover from quickly, I guess it depends on the severity. Marpet is young, he should recover fast. Over 20 years ago I twisted my ankle bad in a pickup basketball game. I never saw a doctor but the damage done never fully healed after all those years ago. Those older sports injuries hang on for life to some degree. Also have torn knee cartiledge for 30+ years from pickup football. I wrap that knee now to play tennis. Snap, crackle, pop.

    if he is healthy enough to play then we have to play him…e.smith did a decent job but I don’t trust him…marpet has been consistent all year long…we need his attitude along the oline to beat dallas because they have some good players along that dline…im more concerned about our dline not getting any pressure on the qb and allowing the rbs to run into the second level untouched…the dallas offense has been nothing without romo and we have to take advantage of that…start conte,tandy,jude and moore in the secondary and blitz if we aren’t getting in pressure with the 4 man rush…GO BUCS!!!

    could you have picked a less flattering picture of him lol. Quick healing Ali!

    @813

    Who would you have covering Dez? I think Banks is still the best option there honestly.

    he was working at it on the sideline after the injury, and it looked like it wouldn’t be a long term thing based on how he was testing the ankle. i have a feeling that if e. smith was getting his lunch eaten he might have miraculously healed and returned to the game, but the good news is his substitute stepped up.

    e smith may be our starting LG after we move on from Mankins from the look of it. without having to worry about snapping the ball before setting up to block, the guy looks respectable

    @unbelievable..to be honest it really doesn’t matter at this point because we all know we don’t have a cb that can stick with any top 10wr in the league…I would throw different people on him and keep a safety over top but I would start out with moore..at least he practiced against him for a few years and may know his tendencies…but jude and moore played the best so far at the cb position…GO BUCS!!!

    As the old dude I can tell you it’s all good…except for injuries and illness.

    I played a LOT of pickup basketball in YMCA’s around the SE. Up until about 28 I could come down on a shoe, turn my ankle totally. It would be swollen..black and blue and I could hardly walk on it. I’d be playing a week or two later.

    Fast forward to now and the same injury would take six months to heal. Ali is a very very young dude. He’ll heal fast if it’s just a sprain and nothing is torn.

    How does one go from questionable to return that same game, to questionable to return after 7 days? Not questioning the man’s toughness, but rather protocol.

    Would much rather see a conservative approach used here, give him a game off and he should be 100% for the rest of the 2nd half of the season, rather than putting him in too early and he’s not quite at his best for the last 7.

    On the other hand Joes, how about an interview or two with our always-injured TE? It would be interesting to hear how anxious he is to get back out there, rather than “gotta be at 100% to help my teammates.”
