Yesterday, Today And Tomorrow

October 5th, 2015

lovie 1005

So the Bucs have reached the quarter pole of 2015, a good gauge to see how the team is doing.

In short, pathetic.

In fact, under Bucs coach Lovie Smith, the Bucs are in one of their worst periods in franchise history. This is not empty rhetoric. The numbers speak for themselves.

Only original coach John McKay, who started with the birth of the franchise and did not have the luxury of free agency, had a worse start. McKay was winless in his first 20 games. So let’s take a look at how each Bucs coach fared in his first 20 games.

Chucky 16-4 (includes three postseason wins his first year)
Tony Dungy 10-10
Greg Schiano 7-13
Raheem Morris 6-14
Ray Perkins 6-14
Sam Wyche 6-14
Richard Williamson 4-15 (only coached 19 games)
Leeman Bennett 3-17
Lovie Smith 3-17
John McKay 0-20

Those numbers by Lovie are horrid. By anyone’s reasoned view, Richard Williamson and Leeman Bennett were the two worst coaches in Bucs history, yet Williams had one more win to start his 20-game tenure (in less games) and Bennett has the identical record.

Joe is willing to bet that neither Bennett nor Williamson had two of the best defenders in the NFL at their disposal, as well as one of the league’s top interception artists at corner, nor a Pro Bowl wide receiver to build around.

Lovie has.

Raheem Morris and Greg Schiano were run out of town as if they tried to start an ISIS colony in Avila, and comparing their starts to Lovie’s, they embarrass Lovie’s numbers.

After yesterday’s debacle, let’s just say Lovie Watch is on. Lovie might just string together a few wins and save his job, but this bears monitoring.

There is no way to spin this. Lovie is doing a terrible job through 20 games. Spare Joe the patience nonsense. There isn’t a coach alive who would start out 3-17 with double-digit pelts on the wall that represent outright Lovie personnel gaffes and avoid hot water. And that includes Bill Belicheat.

For those in Lovie’s inner circle who have recently started a media campaign to save his gig – they can see the handwriting on the wall, too, otherwise they wouldn’t be so outspoken all of a sudden – why is Lovie so special that he should be granted more time than any other coach? Rookie coaches without the personnel hammer Lovie possesses are doing much better in their first years (hello, Todd Bowles; hi, Dan Quinn). Where’s Lovie’s jewelry to justify planting one’s head in the sand?

Again, for the patience crowd, Luke Easterling of Bleacher Report dug up a Lovie quote by way of Scott Smith of Buccaneers.com.

“We just decided that we couldn’t ask our fans to be patient anymore. We needed to do whatever we could to win now, and we felt like we had a plan that would work. We weren’t going to sit back and wait. We were going to attack this, and the fans were going to see that we were serious about making this team better right away.”

Now that Lovie has only three wins in his first 20 games, all of a sudden Lovie’s inner circle is publicly asking fans for patience. Strange turn of events, eh?

No matter what happens the next dozen games, Joe fully expects Lovie to finish the season. How Lovie rallies or doesn’t rally the Bucs in those same next dozen games will determine if he returns.

Remember, Bryan Glazer stated for the record when training camp began that ownership is looking for “a growing year.” Joe just has a hunch this isn’t the type of growth Glazer referenced.

Florida Steel Cage Death Match

Here come the Jags into Tampa on Sunday. The 1-3 Jags. The Gus Bradley Jags who have a grand total of eight wins since Bradley took over in 2013. Joe put out on Twitter yesterday that if Lovie loses to the Jags, then Joe doesn’t know how Lovie is going to be able to dig out of that hole.

To Joe’s surprise, Jags fans started Twittering him saying the same thing about Bradley.

So it looks like we have an old-time, WTBS-Sunday-afternoon, steel-age, Florida death match wrestling feature. Lovie vs. Bradley. The loser is dead man walking.

Sunday may just be a career crossroads at the Den of Depression.

Winston Haters Please Pick New Team

It really shouldn’t surprise Joe that America’s Quarterback, Bucs signal-caller Jameis Winston, elicits such fear and loathing, but on Twitter yesterday, so many Bucs fans, including a few reasoned ones Joe personally knows, wanted to throw the guy into the Gulf of Mexico.

Jameis had a bad day, no question, with four picks. Guess what? John Elway and Troy Aikman and Cam Newton also had four picks when they were rookies. Hell, Peyton Manning had four picks in his third season as a pro; Elway also had four picks on his final game of his second season, and Jameis is only in his fourth game and first against a good team for crying out loud.

Joe is not saying Jameis will be a Hall of Famer, but calm the eff’ down you blowhard haters! This is what rookie quarterbacks do. Up and down.

Anyone notice how Jameis was a perfect 6-for-6 on an 80-yard scoring drive? Guess not.

Anyone notice that Jameis has as many touchdown passes this year as Peyton Manning and more touchdowns passes than Joe Flacco, Andrew Luck and Teddy Bridgewater? Guess not.

Place Kickers, Anyone?

If you have a son or daughter who played high school or college soccer, then you may want to give Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht a call. Joe would be shocked if the Bucs don’t hold kicker tryouts this week — and even more shocked if the guy who has all the aim of Mr. Magoo, Kyle Brindza, returns to the Bucs.

Lovie said yesterday he wasn’t going to fire Brizdna in a press conference, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t going to give the former Notre Dame kicker the boot this morning or tomorrow, if he hasn’t already.

The Reincarnation Of Da’Quan Bowers

Joe will have more about this later, but combined with defensive-coordinator-in-name-only Leslie Frazier and words from the very mouth of defensive end sackless George Johnson, Joe is smelling a bad stench and it has nothing to do with the onions on his cheeseburger last night.

Let’s just say it sure seems as if someone is content with a check.

Offensive Line Comes Through Again

Hey, the offensive line opened up holes and enabled Doug Martin to run for over 100 yards. And it sure seemed as if Jameis had ample time to throw more often than not. That’s two weeks in a row the offensive line had a good game. And in both games Evan Smith was inactive.

Joe will let you do the math.

NFL Thoughts:

Crows: Joe has a feeling this Steelers loss is really, really bad and will come back to haunt them. They had a chance to bury the Crows for the season. Plus, the Steelers are trying to tread water until Ben Roethlisberger comes back. Bad, bad loss.

Jets: Damn it you maggots, you have to give Todd Bowles time. He’s just a rookie head coach! He’s in his first year and does not have player personnel control. You need to be patient! He needs time to get his players so he can start to turn things around. Oh, wait…

Dixie Chicks: Damn it you maggots, you have to give Dan Quinn time. He’s just a rookie head coach! He’s in his first year and does not have player personnel control. You need to be patient! He needs time to get his players so he can start to turn things around. Oh, wait…

Giants: Don’t count Eli Manning dead just yet. The Giants’ defense rose from the dead and held the Bills to a mere field goal through three quarters. Oh, and Manning had three touchdowns.

Bears: Joe was sure that the Bears were dead after they put up a fire sale. But bratty Jay Cutler cannot be held down for long, as he threw a pair of touchdowns. Bad, bad loss for the upstart Raiders.

Bengals: All Andy Dalton does is win. He threw for 321 yards and threw for a touchdown. By the way, does Andy Reid have a pass play in his playbook that is longer than 15 yards?

Colts: Even without Andrew Luck, the Jags still couldn’t beat the Colts. Fossil Matt Hasselbeck was 30 of 47 for 282 yards and a touchdown. After the overtime win, his arm fell off.

Redskins: Man, the folks in Philly are melting down like you won’t believe and want to run Chip Kelly out of town. There is true anger in the streets and Joe almost feels like listening to a Philly sports radio show just for the entertainment. Kirk Cousins beats Kelly? Really?

Chargers: Well, what do you know, Josh McClown loses again. This time, in part, because Philip Rivers went wild. He threw for three touchdowns and 358 yards and engineered the game-winning drive in overtime.

Rams: Nick Foles outduels Carson Palmer, if one can imagine. Foles threw for three touchdowns and rookie Todd Gurley had nearly 150 yards to push the Rams in an upset.

Broncos: Even though Teddy Bridgewater was much better than Peyton Manning, the whole of the Broncos was better than the parts of the Vikings.

Packers: How bad are the 49ers? Clay Matthews was taunting Colin Kaepernick yesterday that he was no Russell Wilson.

Saints: As Drew Brees showed last night, if his arm is healthy, he can still put that team on his back.

Non-NFL Thoughts

* Baseball playoffs begin tomorrow and Joe is usually all over that because Joe likes baseball, too. Well, Joe is not giddy about this postseason. Joe is so freaking depressed at the state of the Cardinals and all of their injuries. Joe’s going to do his best to keep his head buried in football. That is generally not a difficult thing to do in October.

* Joe gets a laugh out of otherwise intelligent folks who think that, by God, if Leonard Fournette wants to play in the NFL, he should be allowed. Apparently, these same folks are anti-unionists. The NFL has a collectively bargained agreement with the NFLPA, in which players must finish their junior year of eligibility before they can enter the NFL. This was upheld by Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg when Maurice Clarett tried to sue his way into the NFL. The case went as far as Ginsburg’s desk and she denied a request by Clarett to overturn a lower court ruling that sided in favor of the NFL and the NFLPA. If Fournette or any other underclassmen so wants to play pro ball, there are all sorts of Mickey Mouse minor leagues around the globe where they can go play and get paid. Now if Fournette wants to sit out his junior year to save wear and tear on his body, Joe wholeheartedly supports that.

* Yeah, Alabama was dead, huh?

* Yeah, this was Georgia’s year, huh?

* Yeah, Ole Miss is the new juggernaut of the SEC West, huh?

* Joe has a feeling the SEC title goes through Baton Rouge this year.

* Joe thought Florida coach Jim McElwain was a good hire, but wow has he turned things around in a hurry. Joe expects Florida to represent the SEC East in the title game, facing LSU.

* Joe hates to give much credit to Clemson because of the looming Clemsoning factor, but Dabo Swinney has things going on at Howard’s Rock. They very well could be in the playoffs. But then again, at some point, Lucy will pull the football away from Clemson. Just a matter of when.

* Does any team play down to their opponents more than Ohio State?

* UCLA was frauding us all, weren’t they?

* Dear God, what is happening in Austin? When Joe was in Texas last week the Longhorns fans were freaking out about Charlie Strong and the condition of the tradition-rich football program and were openly talking about luring Nick Saban away from Alabama. After TCU curb-stomped them this week, Joe is a bit surprised all that oil and ranch money in the Lone Star State hasn’t bought out Strong’s contract already.

* Joe thought there was a better chance of the sun setting in the east than mighty Nebraska ever losing to Illinois. But the unthinkable happened. You talk about a proud program, for decades that was a 500-pound gorilla, now trying to pick up the pieces after losing to Illinois. Man. That’s like Alabama losing to Wake Forest.

* So Donald Trump now says if he is trailing in the GOP polls he’ll quit? Oh, boy.

The record (3-17) is really bad but what’s worse is the team isn’t improving at all. Through 4 games last year the Bucs were 1-3, outscored 119-72, with generally poor line play, poor QB play, an easy to slice up secondary and lots of mental errors like penalties. Through 4 games this year the Bucs are 1-3….are outscored 117-72, with generally poor line play, poor QB play, an easy to slice up….you see where this is going. Kinda like the Bucs…nowhere.

    Lovie Smith for President
    Go Bucs!

  3. Clodhopper Says:

Watching Lovie’s Presser last night. Lovie: This is just one quarter of the season.

I’m sick of hearing the spinning. We have a coach that absolutely REFUSES to look at the big picture. No wonder we suck out loud. He probably thinks we should be grateful because he learned how to count to 11….. for now

  4. FLBoyInDallas Says:

This smacks of the 10-game skid that ended Raheem’s head coaching career. The team has no life, no fight. If this team loses to the Jags I could honestly see another 2-14 campaign. The Glazers aren’t going to sell the team, so we can forget that. Not sure what the answer is at this point. Another coaching change? Do you honestly trust the Glazer sons to get it right finally? I don’t.

  5. Bucs Fan Since '76 Says:

“We just decided that we couldn’t ask our fans to be patient anymore. We needed to do whatever we could to win now, and we felt like we had a plan that would work. We weren’t going to sit back and wait. We were going to attack this, and the fans were going to see that we were serious about making this team better right away.” – Lovie Smith

And there you have it. Lovie sat in his basement and developed this plan. He convinced the Glazer boys he could make the Bucs winners right away. The clueless Glazer boys heard what they wanted to hear, and with no way or inclination to challenge Lovie, they hired him and went back to Man U.

The problem of course is that the plan was fundamentally flawed and had no chance to succeed. And when it failed miserably, Lovie crashed and burned because he had no backup plan. That is precisely why you see him and Licht lurching all over the place. Dumping players, picking up Bears retreads, etc. They are trying to salvage the disaster they wrought on the fly, in pure desperation.

And THAT is why the Glazers need to fire themselves today.

  6. Clodhopper Says:

I cant even watch other NFL football games anymore. All it does is make me jealous. Everyone is better than us. Every game I watch, I see two teams better than us. I see two coaches better than ours. I see a full stadium. I hear a loud crowd.(No, I dont blame fans) I see players that get pumped and excited. I see non of that watching our sh!t games!!

  7. Stevek Says:

    Schiano should’ve gotten a third year …

  8. Bucs Fan #7423 Says:

Trade the whole team and cheerleaders for Bill Belichick, give him $30 million dollars cash up front.

Although i am not happy with the performance of this team.. who is to say firing lovie would make things better.. Than we would have to start all over AGAIN! i am tired of the excuses tired of the losses and tired of watching the Bucs lose pretty much every Sunday. I don’t even know what could be done to salvage this team we must be cursed or something..this is ridiculous and embarrassing as a REAL bucs fan

  10. "TheKevin" Says:

One thing for sure is the bucs will lose to the jags.

    Watch and see.

And if they do Fire lovie they will pick the wrong guy. That is for sure. They don’t know squat about football. They just love that second rate rainbow sport of soccer. Or whatever it’s called.

Might as well just sit back and see how bad it will get. I don’t trust the glazers as far as I can kick that round checker ball they love so much.

  11. Buc'n Enough Says:

    Burn the new uni’s!
The Glazers could change the uniforms again to help generate revenue, cause no one wants to sit thru that crap product….

  12. WalkdaPlank Says:

You can’t say Jameis is a bust after 4 games. That’s just asinine. He may or may not turn out to be a bust, but it’s way too early to tell.

However, that doesn’t mean he hasn’t played poorly. Because he has. And you can’t just say that the other team was better. The other team has little to nothing to do with poor footwork, innacurate throws that should’ve been simple exchanges, staring down receivers, fumbling snaps, intentionally grounding.

Rookie mistakes? Sure, being a rookie has a definite effect, but there’s only so much you can blame on inexperience at the NFL level. Jameis has been playing football most of his life. Intentional grounding and underestimating the speed of an NFL defense, those are rookie mistakes. Bad footwork, inaccuracy, and staring down the guy you are going to throw to, those are just bad fundamentals.

Jameis has a lot of work to do. I have faith in him to turn it around, but I’m concerned nonetheless. I don’t expect him to be perfect, but I did expect him to do better than this as a No.1 overall pick that was praised for being the most NFL ready guy in the draft. It’s a long season, and Jameis has time to learn. Hopefully he just needs time to gel with his offense.

    Go Bucs!

  13. DrHoagy Says:

OH THE PAIN!!! This is what happens when you have a rookie QB and I can’t say it was unexpected. I do think up to this point the coaching is questionable and the defense is a major disappointment. I also know that it may get worse before it gets better.
Folks can cry for Lovie’s head all they want it is not going to happen this year. They don’t want to be paying for two coaches yet again. I think they are paying Schiano’s contract through next year so hang on to your hats and pray for a miracle turnaround and that the draft choices from the last 2 years and the coming 2-3 drafts pan out.
It feels like the late 80’s through early 90’s around here and it sucks.

  14. BucFanInTokyo Says:

I was a fan of hiring Lovie Smith and yearned for the solid big D days of Dungy and Kiffin. A strong D would keep the Bucs in the game until the offense gelled together. Nothing is coming together on the either side of the ball. This D is terrible! The Bucs are such a hard team to enjoy, and I watch a lot of NFL here in Tokyo. The Bucs have loads of talent. Too much not to win at least half their games.

    @Clodhopper
I get what you are saying. Everything you said is spot on target.

The good (and mediocre teams as well) are so much more polished in all phases of the game.

Lovie Smith should be on the hot seat now. 3 wins in 20 games is garbage. My tune has changed…

  15. Jim Palm Harbor Says:

Stop comparing Winston’s early days to Farve, Manning & Elway. Perhaps Russell, Leaf & Couch are more accurate indicatiors.

  16. CC Says:

    @76
I’m a Bucs fan since 84 and I could not agree with you more. Your comment is 100% correct.

  17. DallasBuc Says:

    Incompetent Lovie Smith

  18. Justin Says:

“calm the eff’ down you blowhard haters!”

Sorry, but if the Bucs drafted Mariota, and he did this, you would be all over him and the front office, “The Bucs should have drafted America’s Quarterback, he was the more complete player, etc.”

There is little evidence to back it up otherwise. I get that it’s his 4th game of the year but he’s already making repeat mistakes and that’s not a good sign.

  19. "TheKevin" Says:

    @justin

Lmao you must be a new fan. Or only a fan since the super bowl.

The fans from way back like myself have seen this dog and pony show.

Get used to it. Everything you’re seeing sums up the entire franchise except for a few good years. This is and always has been the bucs.

    _______________________________________________________________

This is line of thinking that drives me mad. We have 3 wins in 20 games. What exactly is there to “start all over”? Learning a new scheme? They apparently can’t learn this one. New offensive coordinator for Jameis? It’s year 1, best time to do it really. There’s really no foundation here either. No need to fear firing Lovie, he’s a loser taking us nowhere. We can and will do better.

  21. Bucs Fan #7423 Says:

    @TheKevin

    Much pain, so much pain

  22. Gus Says:

I outlived Culverhouse. I’ll outlive this era of incompetence. Winston’s start has been worrisome. To say otherwise is naive. And he’s about to get his first coach fired.

  23. Mike Johnson Says:

I hereby decree..Loviedubbie and Jason Lightbulb..Spinmasters of the Year. Lovie is the Spin Captain and Jason is the..Grandmaster. 11 straight home losses people. And comments from Lovie like, There is a lot of football left and we shall improve. They should have brought in a vet and sit Jamis this year. He’s gonna lose a lot of games for us with turnovers. This team cannot play from behind. Next Sunday the NFl will have the..Losers Bowl in Tampa for rights to the worst NFL team. Although I am hopeful for us, I think we will win that title. Jacksonvilles QB is playing better than Winston right now. Somewhere Greg Schiano is smiling…holding a..spare fishing pole and seat warmer for his buddy’s..Lovie and Jason

  24. Buccfan37 Says:

The Bucs huh, old news, history repeats itself. Now U. of Texas being this crappy, that’s hilarious. Strong should have stayed in Louisville. lmao. I was surprised Florida beat Ole Miss, the Gators with basically the same offensive players from last year. Shows what an offensive minded head coach who can turn it around for you can do. Where is our Bucs offensive thinker head coach, not Lovie. The Gators head coach would be great for the Bucs. On the baseball Cardinals, they have to be one of the NL faves to make the Series, but the Cubs have the others worried if they win that one game against the Pirates. Everybody in the Bucs division beats the Cowboys, except of course the Bucs.

  25. Bucs_Sam Says:

    I’m not a Lovie fan.

You start a cocky rookie, this is what you get. Jamies thinks he’s still in college, “Nah, those secondaries aren’t as good as me, I can make this throw….”

1st pass in 2 out of 4 games is a pick 6? Spare me the Farve, Payton…. they all throw picks early.

Those guys threw the picks out of inexperience, Jamies is throwing them out of ignorance. He doesn’t get this isn’t college anymore. He believes his own hype.

We have a bigger stronger Johny Manziel. He’s a bust becasue he thinks he’s better than he is. Talented? Sure. Going to pan out? probably not unless there is Johnny Football type rehab for being full of yourself.

Lovie attached his ship to the jamies Anchor.

Just Listen the very true words of Pat Kirwin: Mistakes drafting at QB’s get coaches fired. Want some examples?

Jack Del Rio – Blaine gabbert.

    Mike Shanahan – RG3

    Rex Ryan – Geno Smith

Who will be the next head Coach? Also, who is he going to draft at Qb in 3 years? Stay Tunred Bucs fans, as the Buco Bruce worst NFL team keeps churning at the bottom.

    Same Lose, Next Week…..

  26. DB55 Says:

So Schiano is our 3rd best coach next to chucky and dungy. Probably one of the best article JBF has ever posted.

  27. Fartman Says:

Joe is asking for patience for Jameis that he never gave Glennon as a rookie. Truth is.. as a rookie Glennon played considerably better than Jameis has thus far… in much less favorable situation.

  28. Fowlball Says:

    We’re just not in synch.

  29. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Not sure what is going on but it’s starting to look dangerously close to losing his team. LVD is simply not playing to his contract. Yesterday was the first game where I thought I saw more “want to” in the other team than the Bucs…especially after the fumble for a three point gift and then the pick six…again it’s like…here we go again.

  30. bculaw Says:

“Anyone notice that Jameis has as many touchdown passes this year as Peyton Manning and more touchdowns passes than Joe Flacco, Andrew Luck and Teddy Bridgewater? Guess not.”
    _______________________________________________________________

Isn’t that part of the problem, Joe? I can’t recall a rookie QB having as much on his plate as Jameis has this year. Very few easy completions in a passing game almost entirely reliant on a vertical, timing-based scheme on an offense with no speed and WR’s and TEs who generate little separation and an O-line that is uneven at best. I keep hearing praises for Koetter (and even some calling for him to tale Lovie’s place), but I am having a hard time seeing how JW is being put in a position to succeed. In the context of the quote above, it seems as though the Bucs are expecting out of Jameis what the other teams are expecting out of their seasoned QBs. Jameis isn’t ready for that, and I can’t recall any rookie QB that ever was. Jameis is supremely talented, but let’s not forget that he should be in the middle of his redshirt JUNIOR season in college right now. This is truly the definition of trial by fire.

  31. Mo_Downs Says:

    Quick, Let’s Panic…!!!

    Losing means: “Let’s question EVERYTHING…???”

I won’t bother to list the reasons or any rational for a lack of success other than to ask all “BUCS FANS” to take a peek at the NFL Standings after 4 weeks.

The number of 1-3 teams that were expected to be a lock for the playoffs is cold comfort to fans of a team that was only expected to win 4-5 games.
The projected 4-5 wins were from VEGAS and most other respected NFL analysts.

So far the Bucs are right on schedule to match the projections. It’s WAY to early to consider this team (in season 2 of rebuilding) to have playoff potential. EVERYBODY KNOWS THE BUCS ARE REBUILDING. And, their W/L record is proof of that well known FACT.

To my fellow Bucs fans with unrealistic expectations, get a clue.
Jameis, a great college QB, wasn’t drafted to have the immediate impact of a 4-star rookie RB or DE. The QB position is just too complex to have those expectations of instant success, regardless of the talent around him.

This season will play out as expected and as predicted. The 2nd half of the season should, as predicted, show a lot more growth and cohesion that MAY translate into wins. We have a few outstanding players and a rookie QB on offense and defense. Let’s not throw the team (players and coaches) under the bus, yet.

As fans, we can’t call the plays or block, kick, tackle, throw or catch. We can, however, educate ourselves and criticize or praise the TEAM based on its progress based on its realistic potential.

The running game showed-up. That’s progress against a VERY well coached Carolina defense. Every team is missing key players. Some injuries have more of an impact on teams than others. Missing a TE that can actually catch is hurting our offense.

Jameis has progressed. Each week a new target emerges to get a 100yd game. Jenkins, Evans and Jackson have all done so. And, the opposition has eliminated our 100yd receiver from the previous week, as expected, the following week. Did anyone really expect Myers to replace Jenkins’ productivity?

Look, the BEST TEAM won. Again, look at the league standings and temper your wrath based on reality. A lot of GOOD teams with GREAT coaches are 1-3, so far.

    Go Bucs..!!

  32. Bucs_Sam Says:

    Wrote too soon…..

    Joe Philbin – Ryan Tannerhill

    Interesting notes:

    Philbin first 20 games: 10 and 10.

    Averages 8 wins a season.

    Current season is 1 – 3

  33. Johnny Dejay Says:

Jameis Winston was sold to the Bucs Fan Base as a “NFL Ready Player.” Now that he’s proven he’s most definitely not NFL Ready, we’re being told that we need to be patient because he’s a rookie and we’re given cherry-picked statistical comparisons to Hall of Fame players that also struggled. That’s why people are upset, we were lied to and now we’re being patronized.

Of course a rookie QB on a terrible team is going to struggle. Lots of rookie QBs on terrible teams get playing time too early which ruins their careers. When Rookie QBs get drafted by terrible teams, they should sit on the bench for at least 2 or 3 seasons behind a veteran.

If Jameis Winston has NFL talent, and that’s truly debatable, the Bucs are doing their best to ruin his career before it starts by playing him this early on this terrible team.

  34. BucfaninMi Says:

Why not, Glennon haters find a new team.

  35. JabooBuc Says:

Buc_Sam, you sir, are an idiot. How can you say that Peyton, Farve, etc threw their interceptions out of inexperience and Jameis has thrown his out of ignorance? Both of the other aforementioned QBs had more time in college. You don’t know what you are talking about.

  36. John Ensch Says:

I can only say that this is not a very good team with some extremely overrated players on offense and defense. I just can’t share the love for Lavante David, Gerald MCcoy, L. Murphy, and Mike Evans. Only on a bad team are these guys considered talented. Gerald MCcoys pro-bowl invites are more about being Miss Congeniality than for being the best DL player in my opinion. Lavante David took the money and ran. L. Murphy is a never was and Mike Evans a one year wonder. Bad team + overrated players = Bad coaching

  37. MGL Says:

Can someone drag, I dunno, Bill Cowher out of retirement? Someone to help kick the whole organization up a level? It’s so discouraging.

  38. Mad Mark Says:

When Lovie gets the boot I hope he takes the old Tampa 2 goes with him

  39. Pick6 Says:

@Mad Mark, it’s not a Tampa 2 problem. we have been running alot of different looks, in fact 2 or 3 of the most embarrassing TDs this team has let up have been in man coverage and Tampa 2 experts like Ronde, Steve White, and Derrick Brooks have all noted in different venues and in different ways that there is very little Tampa 2 in Lovie’s Bucs compared to the actual Tampa 2 days. Man, Cover 2, Cover 3, zone blitz, man blitz, bump and run…the playcall doesn’t matter when the execution is a total crapshoot

Serious question… When we lose to Jags on Sunday, who do we interview for head coach? Josh Mcdaniel???

Man, Lovies “Cover Zero” defense got Debacled!

Joe, it’s taken some time, but I’m glad you’ve come full circle on Lovie… and I think it’ll be another 3 years before you write the same on Licht. We’ve seen this type of regression since early last year (arguably we called it during his first off season before he coached a snap), but staying neutral you cooled our engines… until now. Unfortunately, welcome to the Lovie poo-poo party.

… which leads me into my next point. I’m not a Winston basher, by any means, but I feel like you got your head in the clouds again. Let’s not boot him into the Gulf, but please be objective. I pleaded with you after the Houston game. Jameis looks like crap. I said it and I mean it: crap. Now, lets be patient. He is a rookie, he will hopefully grow, and hopefully by sucking now it will one day make him better. But that doesn’t change what we see on the field. A guy that for 4 weeks has accuracy issues, is not in sync w his receivers, and for the love of GOD stares down his receiver until that man (usually Jackson) is blanket covered and is forced to either take a sack, throw up a duck, or scramble like a baby giraffe.

    And your comparisons:
“Anyone notice that Jameis has as many touchdown passes this year as Peyton Manning and more touchdowns passes than Joe Flacco, Andrew Luck and Teddy Bridgewater?”

… not good. Manning is 39 years old and can’t throw a spiral (thanks for the 8 fantasy points sunday, i should have started Bradford). Joe Flacco is a horrible kicker away from being 0-4, for a reason bc he’s sucked, Luck who also has been playing bad, has played one less game (did you seriously bring him into the conversation), and Bridgewater who I guess is your new golden pony from the 2014 draft but has never been the 300+ yds/game kinda guy and has this bald headed fantasy God who totes the ball 30+ plays a game…

Again, come down to earth Joe bc if a year from now were having the same conversation, it’s because you DIDN’T WANT to acknowledge what was happening before your eyes. But if he turns into Aikman, I also don’t want to hear you saying there’s been incredible development – because you were so scared to point out the flaws to begin with.

All that being said, GO JAMEIS!
