Spence, Dotson Ready Next Week

Akeem Spence

The growing depth on the Bucs isn’t just limited to the offensive line.

Defensive tackle Akeem Spence will be ready to practice next week, Lovie Smith said on the Buccaneers Radio Network this evening.

Also, Demar Dotson is in the same boat as Spence.

Injured August 15 while starting at right tackle in the preseason opener, Dotson, per NFL rules, can’t return until Week 9 based on his IR Designated for Return label. Joe’s unsure when Dostson will be permitted to practice (Week 7?), but L0vie said he could go next week.

Spence hurt himself lifting weights and had back surgery in August. He’s been seen working out at One Buc Palace ever since. The 2013 fourth-round pick had three sacks last year and entered the season as a key figure in the defensive tackle rotation.

Encouraging stuff.

We are starting to have depth on the lines….I wonder who will be cut for Spence & Dotson?

    Any thoughts….

  2. Bucsalltheway Says:

I say mcdaniels the dt is gone I think that’s his name!…gone. Offensive line not so sure maybe we cut Tim Jennings or mike Jenkins for Dotson lol

  3. DB55 Says:

    Tbbf

Prob Spence. I was thinking it would be tough for spence bc the dline is crowded right now. Spencer’s saving grace is the McDaniels hasn’t been playing very well.

As for Dotson, I’m super stoked. Cherilus has been a good stop gap but IMO has played the least inspired in comparison to the rest of the line. Dotson should strengthen the right side along with Marpet. I see a great running game emerging behind those two.

Heck I think Pamphile played better than mankins too.

  4. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Perhaps Fragel back to the practice squad or the 3rd QB now that he’s been here 3 games….

  5. DB55 Says:

Fragel keeps getting better each game. Yesterday he was lined up as a TE and made a difference. Plus, I couldn’t be happier with the 2 rooks they’ve really impressed me.

  6. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @ DB55

Yea…….with Dotson returning we have Pamphile & Cherilus….with also perhaps Fragel….we can use the additonal lineman at times……we also have Warren if he sticks….with EDS coming back….the best depth we’ve had on the Oline for a long time.

Also the DLine has depth on the interior…….don’t think they will cut Spence….but who knows?

  7. DefenseRules Says:

Both Dotson and Spence need to be on the 53-man roster. Neither is a superstar, but they’re both rock solid and assets to OLine & Dline. Far as who goes to make room, I can think of a couple of CBs right off the top of my head for starters.

  8. DB55 Says:

Exactly! Can you believe it’s Monday and we’re smiling? I forgot how that felt.

  9. Buc1987 Says:

    Grrrreat Joe!

Let us know when Jenkins or Jennings has been cut….until then I have no worries about the pass rush.

  10. DB55 Says:

Hey not for nothing just giving credit where it’s due but Jenkins did pressure bortles into throwing an inception to mcdougle, for whatever it’s worth.

  11. Buc1987 Says:

    DB…great let’s keep him them…

    Whaaaaaaaaaaat……ever! lol

  12. BUCutalkinbout Says:

    @DB55
I hear ya but Wuteva man, lol
He’s gotta go… or he’s gotta relax, get into the true flow. Both he and Jennings having experience in this system apparently don’t trust the other 9 guys out there. Thus being out of position for what seems like every play. ..we’re getting better though
    YO JOE!
    GO BUCS!!!

  13. DB55 Says:

No arguments here. I think Jenkins still yelling at a ref after that little girl burned him for a TD. Lol

  14. The Real Malloy Says:

I gotta agree with DB55. Jenkins isn’t playing that bad considering his role (backup once Banks returns). Jennings however…..apparently the bears knew what they were doing when they cut him. Definitely loving the depth it seems we have on the OL and DL.

  15. Buc1987 Says:

Jenkins is just a hair better than Jennings. If that’s saying anything. Banks needs to get healthy. Don’t know if this defensive guru Lovie will start him anyways. I’m not holding my breath.

  16. Idontwannahearitanymore Says:

Monday after a win. There has been a definite attitude improvement on this site. That just goes to show you that winning does make a difference!

  17. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I guess nobody misses Leonard Johnson….

  18. Buc1987 Says:

    TBBF…who?

  19. DB55 Says:

Just for the record I am NOT a Jenkins fan.

    LVD
    Banks
    Mcdonald
    Lansanna
    Barron oh wait

  20. bucsbedabest Says:

I think Tony McDaniels will get cut. He has been a complete disappointment coming in from the Seahawks. He has only 4 tackles and one assist in 80 snaps with no QB pressures. Akeem Spence will be a big upgrade from McDaniels, especially in stopping the run. Next, Howard Jones will be sent back to the practice squad. Both of his sacks were basically stunt plays were he was unblocked to sack Bortles. After the sacks he really struggled against Luke Joeckel. Demar Dotson’s return should send Gosder Cherrios to the bench. Welcome back Spence and Dotson! Mike Jenkins actually had a good game yesterday. He had only two passes thrown his way with no receptions, 1 tackle and a QB hurry. Tim Jennings is the one. He was thrown at 10 times with 7 receptions for 2 TD and also had 2 penalties. Heck with Jennings, why throw to anyone else?

  21. Buc1987 Says:

DB…don’t lie, we know you have his jersey.

  22. DB55 Says:

    Rotf!!!

I only own 2 both black #55 n #99. I should have picked up #22 when champs had them 50% off. Smh

  23. Capt.Tim Says:

Spence may not make the team. Innmy opininop, he’s the least talented D-linemen we have. Quite an improvement!

Dotson and Cherilus could have a real battle- only to both lose out th Rief Fragel- who shows the talent to be better than both!
Again- amazing Depth improvement, in just one season!

  24. Buc1987 Says:

LOL I still have a 22. I got it for Christmas during his rookie season. Thought it was a waste for the last 2 years, but now I’m not so sure. All I know is if he keeps it up and stays on this pace, the Bucs are going to have to paaaaaay!

  25. Brent Says:

Spence was pretty strong against the run I’d keep him if he’s healthy and 100%.

  26. Capt.Tim Says:

    Sorry about errors
    ” Reid Fragel”
I’m starting to really like “Fragel Rock!”

  27. Buc1987 Says:

To top it off Jennings is wearing Dunn’s #28. Not that it should be retired or restricted or anything, but atleast put a decent player in the number.

  28. DB55 Says:

I wouldn’t be surprised if they let him walk n use sims as #1. That would be dumb n that why it wouldn’t surprise me.

  29. DB55 Says:

31 points to the jags, I’ll let that sink in tomorrow bc I still have a smile of my face.

  30. DB55 Says:

    87

I read that things are falling apart ova in tenn. disgruntled receivers and what not. I guess we picked the wrong guy.

  31. Wesley Says:

Joe, you got my hopes up for Dotson’s return, but week 9….that blows.

  32. Buc1987 Says:

DB…it’s still too early to tell for either QB.

  33. Buc1987 Says:

I KNOW we picked the right guy though….

  34. DB55 Says:

    Without question!

  35. Buc1987 Says:

    Eh I’m bored why not?

“The AFC Offensive Rookie of the Month for September failed to throw multiple touchdowns for the first time in his career. In fact, he was held out of the end zone altogether. And with the Titans trailing by a point late in the fourth quarter, he threw an interception near midfield to seal the defeat.”

I was so bored earlier tonight I started googling childhood pictures of celebrities. No I’m not watching MNF.

  36. Buc1987 Says:

    “21-of-32, 187 yards, INT, 68.1 passer rating; 5 carries, 47 yards”

    That’s a future HOF’er if you didn’t know….

  37. Rojas Says:

Just read DE Wake from the dolphins in on the trading block, an CB Sean Smith from the Chiefs.

  38. Fsuking Says:

We can’t cut Mike Jenkins. He’s not a starter but he is very serviceable, I almost wanna say we need him. Jennings looks like an already average player playing at 75% because of his knee. If I was GM, he gone.

  39. Fsuking Says:

Our secondary is the worst I can remember in my lifetime of 25 years. I mean come on this screams trade! Please do something. Our D- line is playing the pass great as a unit but with QBs getting the ball out to wide open guys in under 2 seconds their ain’t too much they can do. Now having a boatload of undersized DE’s and LB’s is severely hurting our run defense but what can you expect when a 4th round rookie is out playing your 2nd best player (David), especially against the run.
