Lovie: Turf A Tonic For Buccaneers

Are the Bucs built to win in the loud domes of Atlanta and New Orleans?

It’s a nice thought, and Lovie Smith shared that his defensive players can’t wait to play on the artificial surface at the Georgia Dome on Saturday.

Lovie seems to believe the Bucs are loaded with defensive gazelles.

“We’re a fast football team. So I know guys are looking forward to going on that turf [in Atlanta],” Lovie told the Buccaneers Radio Network.

There could be a confidence boost on the turf Sunday. Joe can see that. The Bucs dominated in New Orleans last month, though the Bucs sure didn’t look fast in Houston. But that brand new turf got bad reviews and injured Johnthan Banks.

Are the Bucs really a fast team, as Lovie says? Maybe, but the secondary sure won’t win any races. Julio Jones is averaging 13 targets per game. The Bucs pass rush will need to revive and save the day on Sunday.

Falcons offense: Bucs defense a tonic to our recent woes.

  2. University of Seffner Says:

Sounds like Lovie is running out of words to try to get people excited.

  3. ChanEpic Says:

“We’re a fast football team.” – Wait. What?

  4. Howard Cosell Says:

Just match up their stud receivers on Jenkins.
Howard is thinking maybe 35-7 Atlanta at halftime.

  5. DallasBuc Says:

Please…this guy should really stop talking. Him and his lapdog GM say some of the dumbest sht ever. They talk as if there are no animate objects in earshot.
The Glazers have to be thoroughly humiliated by this professional incompetence they’ve backed the money truck up for.

  6. bee Says:

That’s strange, the turf certainly didn’t help them last year. Lovie really needs to stop talking.

  7. flmike Says:

    Now he’s just embarrassing himself…

  8. Buccfan37 Says:

Bucs D is faster than a speeding bullet, yet slower than molasses covering receivers. Fake grass, fake assumption.

  9. passthebuc Says:

Lovie is in the wrong business. He should run for public office. Its just a constant BS. Lets start a collection for signs on the xpressway’s that read

Lovie’s got to go and go now.

  10. OneLove Says:

There is some speed on defense. I know he’s not referring to the likes of Mike Jenkins and Jonathan Banks!!

“It’s as simple as that” – Lovie Smith

“Changing coaches about halfway through a rebuilding effort is a recipe for perpetual failure.” – Johnny “America’s Commenter” Dejay

“If Lovie don’t no how to coach so be it… Hard to believe he would get a job offer and you wouldn’t…. Wonder why??? Your idiots that’s why…” – JAB83

“So my advice would be, yes, it’s okay to throw things at your TV when your team has a monumental collapse like the Bucs did on Sunday in Washington. But take a deep breath and understand that it is only going to get worse if you continue to jump from one coach to the next.” – Peter King

  11. KW Buc Says:

Its rare that I take the time to comment — BUT — for the love of god, Lovie, please stop talking!!

  12. Lord Cornelius Says:

This game will be a big test. If we get blown out it likely is the true beginning of the end of Lovie. Just unacceptable. If we lose and its competitive / close and doesn’t come down to coaching blunders then that’s another thing. If we win then it’d prob be the biggest win of his tenure and could save his job

  13. Another J Says:

    Please stop interviewing Lovie!

  14. Couch Fan Says:

Im expecting an @$$ kicking like the 56-0 drubbing we got last year from the Falcons. We are going nowhere with Incompetent Lovie. I dont think I’m even going to waste my time watching Imcompetent Lovie do what he does best, get out coached and lose.

  15. Pick6 Says:

“Lovie is in the wrong business. He should run for public office.”

sad but true – as an NFL head coach, your statements are scrutinized and fact-checked more closely than those of local politician or even a governor or US Congressman. if 85% of what comes out of your mouth is going to be made-up facts, deliberate lies, or ramblings to draw attention from the fact that you have no good answer to a question, it is probably a better career path. Lovie Smith for Governor of Texas (he’s done enough harm to floridians already)

  16. unbelievable Says:

    Wow. Just wow.

Why even bother asking this guy questions anymore? Mr. Smith, do us all a favor and just stop talking until you figure out how to win another game.

  17. godzilla13 Says:

I really think we have a chance against the dixie chicks if we start Johnthan Banks, Alterraun Verner and play Sterling Moore in the slot. Then split playing time with Kwon Alexander and Bruce Carter. Play Carter as a situational on passing downs. Also figure out a way to get Akeem Spence more snaps. In the few (15) snaps he had last week, he looked very good. He was pressuring the QB and plugging the middle against the run. Have Banks and Verner play some bump and run and get DJ Swearinger and Major Wright in there in place of Bradley McDougald. Whaalaa, the defense makes there comeback. Why can’t Lovie n company do the same? Now all we need is a WR. With Austin Seferian-Jenkins returning I look for the Buccaneers to find redemption this Sunday.

  18. Jeff Says:

Advantage! LOL Any advantage the Bucs have is instantly lost with Lovie’s inept coaching.
