Excuses Running Out

October 25th, 2015
Today's Mr. Personal Foul.

Today’s Mr. Personal Foul.

It’s one thing to admit a team has no talent on defense.

Tough to say that with Gerald McCoy, Lavonte David and Johnthan Banks on the roster.

Then again, you can’t blame former Bucs rock star general manager Mark Dominik for running off Darrelle Revis.

It’s another thing to say your defensive scheme isn’t working. And Joe doesn’t think it is a stretch to suggest if Kirk Freaking Cousins goes all Dan Marino on you, rallying a team from a 24-point deficit, then maybe, just perhaps, your scheme isn’t getting the job done.

But it is a whole different ballgame when your team is undisciplined.

And, yes, if your team commits 16 penalties, many of them of the 15-yard variety, there could be a discipline problem on your team.

Just so we are all clear on this, Joe is referring to the Bucs.

That would be Lovie Smith’s team. And a defense that was taken over by Lovie.

Defensive lineman Will Gholston had a grand total of two tackles today — but he made up for it by committing three personal fouls. Gholston had a personal foul in each of the final three quarters. The first two were for unnecessary roughness. His third was for roughing the passer.

Most players figure it out after the first personal foul. Certainly, after the second personal foul, said player might want to realize he’s playing a bit out of control.

A third personal foul? Well, at that point a guy isn’t quite getting it and ought to be pulled. At the end, it all falls back on the guy responsible for the defense.

In each Washington drive that Gholston helped extend with his personal fouls, the drive ended in a Redskins touchdown.

Gholston was so proficient in collecting personal fouls today — at least someone on the Bucs defense was adept at doing something — he collected his three personal fouls in a span of roughly 24 minutes.

Impressive.

But this all goes back to something is very wrong with this defense, with this team.

That would be Lovie’s defense and Lovie’s team. You know, 4-18 Lovie?

1/3 of those penalties where complete BS!

  2. Tampa Tony Says:

Washington got 7 first downs via penalty. This is coming off a bye week. Need to hold the players accountable, bench them for a series for needless penalties.

  3. Howard Cosell Says:

    The NFL is fixed.
The refs were calling every possible (and some impossible) penalty against the Bucs today.

  4. Lovie Is Dog Poo Says:

Stupid penalties + horrible defense + no accountability from horrible players = 24 point blown leads.

  5. Bucin' Nutz Says:

Yea, it’s time for Lovie to go folks. Kilter takes over as HC and we can worry about the rest later. You can let this train wreck of a franchise continue. Heads must roll…again.

  6. Tampa Tony Says:

Even with some iffy penalties the Bucs had chances. They just couldn’t stop anyone

  7. Bucin' Nutz Says:

    Koetter…damn auto correct.

  8. Case Walk Says:

When I go to bed tonight , I’m going to pray to God that the Glazers fire Lovie Smith by the time I wake up tomorrow. Amen! All hail Dirk for HC!

  9. Bucin' Nutz Says:

    Same ole’ story huh Tony.

  10. ATrain Says:

Is it Amazing that before this game the Redskins had scored 3 points in the 3 quarter of any game…

The Redskins have lost all their games in the second half.

Lovie said we started fast didn’t finish…

Haha we lost to the Redskins who haven’t scored more than 3 points all season in the 3rd quarter and Cousins who hasn’t scored more than 1TD in a game….

Lovie didnt only Lose a big lead in a game He lost a big lead to a bad team that is beat up and NEVER in their history have they came back from 24 down

  11. Bucin' Nutz Says:

The Glazers are salivating over the possibility of the “London Buccaroos” I’m sure. They won’t fire Lovie. As long as we keep buying tickets they will continue to put this crappy product on the field.

  12. Drew Says:

    Where was secondary?

  13. Kalind Says:

I’ve said it since the first week blow out. Lovie offers this team nothing. He isn’t making them better, he’s out coaching no one, and he’s hampering growth and development. Look what happened in Miami after they cut their dim-wit. Time to cut ours.

  14. Clodhopper Says:

“Kirk Freaking Cousins goes all Dan Marino”

How many times does Joe have to write and we have read “(Name crappy or inexperienced QB) goes all Dan Marino?”

How many times are we going to get beat by that same slant? Week in and week out.

Lovie is the problem. Licht is drafting good and Koetter has the offense running smoothly. The common denominator is Lovie. Lovie’s defense. Lovie’s handpicked free agents. Lovie’s defensive play calls. Lovies soft cowardice defensive attitude. Lovie sucks.

  15. Michael Johnson Says:

30 pts is enough to win in the NFl. And win big if…you got a halfway decent Defense. The Glazers will let Lovie finish the season. If he can by some miracle finish 8-8 or close? He saves his job. Another performance like this one though, just might seal his fate. Now, lets truly see what Lovie Smith is made of. All eyes are on you..Mr Smith. Batter up and..Goodluck.

  16. GhostofSchiano Says:

    Our upcoming games…..

@Atlanta , Giants, Cowboys @Philadelphia, @Indianapolis Falcons. Our next six games. If we win one of them we’re damn lucky.

I have never seen the Bucs implode like they did today

  17. pittbucfan Says:

    Stick a fork in ’em….

  18. BucFan20 Says:

The Constant. They always will or try to give the game away.

  19. 911bucs Says:

If there’s not any significant changes in this defense the bucs don’t stand a chance the next 6 games. Hate to say it but it’s a true story.

  20. lightningbuc Says:

Lavonte David got the contract extension and has basically vanished. I wouldn’t have known Gerald played today, except he jumped offside and got his number called.

  21. ATrain Says:

We will have the 1st pick in the draft

    Something to look forward too

  22. Buccfan37 Says:

Sports Pros should get paid according to individual game play results, otherwise crappy played results get rewarded the same as good play. What is the incentive to play well? Big contracts, get rid of that crap. Unions are diminishing in America, wages are lower. The NFL Players Association should take a hike into oblivion. Thousands await who will take these overpriced primadonna’s positions for much less pay and have the incentive to excel. A win for owners and a win for fans. Play for pay, the better you play the more you are paid.

  23. marylandbuc Says:

why isnt Gholsten getting jacked up for 3 personal foul penalties????? Chuckys head would have exploded on #92…….

  24. Max Says:

This is on the coaches. Coaches cant teach the guy how to play and they continue to let him play when he keeps messing up.

We had close to 16 maybe 17 penalties today. Lots of the same thing we have been seeing all year.

These coaches are terrible. I don’t want to fire them after just 2 years but I really want to.

  25. Silverhorse Says:

These guys don’t care they got their money. If they let Doug Martin go they are stupid. Lovie needs to be fired. They should have never hired him. Mike Jenkins needs to go. Tim Jennings needs to go. George Johnson was a waste of a draft pick.

  26. ElioT Says:

Maybe McCoy or Lavonte should have pulled him aside and said something like “bro, get your head out of your a** and quit the bullsh*t, or else!”????????

But no, McCoy and David aren’t alpha males or leaders of men.

Makes me think the inmates are running the asylum?

Maybe the alpha males on this team aren’t good football players and the locker room is toxic? There’s zero accountability here.

  27. ATrain Says:

Michael did you write if Lovie can finish 8-8 …

    BaHaaaaa

He can’t beat the Redskins with 4 starters hurt…

Cousins hant thrown more than one TD in any game until today..

We couldn’t beat Florida State this year.

8-8. Who can we beat????..Atl, NY, Carolina…. Nope..
    Chicago. Maybe.

Win 3 which means Lovie will be 5-27 in two years…

The Bucs will keep him because of the money they have tied up in him…

  28. Matt Says:

I’m not really gonna sit here and blame Lovie for losing , it’s not his fault really . His team is looking very close too being complete and losing gets you somewhere . It really does . It brings life lessons too you . It can be rewarding if you look at it that way. Lovie smith learned his lesson he should of stuck with the man to man defensive secondary . He should of kept revis and this issue we have now wouldn’t be an issue we would of been probably 4-2 instead of 2-4 . We need a bunch of big fast experienced CBs who aren’t afraid of being the best . I don’t blame Lovie for losing , however I do blame hI’m for not putting the team in a better situation too win. He chose Leslie fraizer as his defensive coordinator and he hasn’t exactly coordinated anything . This team on defense is allowing way too many points and it’s becoming a serious problem .

  29. Matt Says:

You know naming Dirk Koetter HC may be the best thing we could do , I mean after all he does a great job at getting his team too score . Couldn’t do a worse job than Lovie is doing on defense . May be that time here in a few weeks too get rid of Lovie and Fraizer then again I doubt it . I think are future HC will be Dirk Koetter though. Where is monte kiffin ?

  30. BigMacAttack Says:

I’m really pretty optimistic right now. I know I wasn’t but I think their working hard and they may actually get there. I do believe Livie has to adjust his scheme but he may just do it. Need a good defensive draft next year and maybe they’ll be better. The offense is scoring points and that’s half the battle.
Keep your chin up Bucs’ Fans.

  31. Steve Says:

I can’t help but laughing, sorry buccaneers fans. I’m a bears fan and I can’t help but chuckle to myself when reading these comments about love smith. They’re the same old comments that I would read and sometimes write after lousy bears games. It’s obvious Tampa management didn’t read any of them lol. Love smith is a checkers player playing a game of chess, simply out coached. His loyalty to his players is to the detriment of the team. He took horrible ex bears players ie Conte, wright and who knows who else to your bucs…they were brutal in Chicago. They were run out of the city, constantly being laughed at by the media. Seriously they were embarrassing. To say it bluntly, absolutely fire love now or he will ruin you for years to come. He has severely damaged the bears for years so learn from our mistakes. Oh and his defensive scheme is outdated, any decent qb can pick apart his weakass zones. Sorry guys cover 2 doesn’t work anymore, you’d think he would of realized that 8 years ago. Oh yeah he’s stubborn to lol. Feel sorry for your fans.

  32. Jerseybuc Says:

    He needs to go. Now

  33. Clint Says:

The Tampa 2 is still bad. nothing to see here.

  34. pelbuc Says:

How many of these losses do the fans have to endure before the Glazers admit their mistake and realize L&L are worthless.

  35. rayjay1122 Says:

Who the F cares anymore? Not me!!! I will spend the remainder of my weekends rooting for every team playing the bucs and I guess if I want to be a fan of a winning, competent team, then maybe I will become a Patriot fan. The Bucs are no longer worthy of fans. And anyone silly enough to remain on board is just a glutton for punishment and deserves the grief. Get out now!!! This is NOT a professional organization!!!

  36. destro44 Says:

Here is what I saw. The offense is the strength of this team, who saw that coming. Good game O. The pass defense again proves that they are the remedy for a QB who needs a good game. That’s 3 iffy QBs with the best games of their careers this season. I get why people say we won’t fire Lovie mid season but we could. Or at least force him to give the defense back to Frazier. Obviously he handle both jobs and the defense wad improving last year. Can’t say the same right now.

  37. sho-nuff Says:

    stupid coach…stupid team…how many penalties…absolute effn idiots…

  38. Ricardo Says:

I saw zero Pass rush after the first quarter and minimal secondary play after the first half. The team lost two important receivers yet the skins lost a bunch of their defense. The rest is history. I think Lovie is the catalyst, unfortunately and should be dispatched to where all bad coaches go……the woodshed.

  39. JAB83 Says:

What makes a fan a fanatic??? Is it negative support when a team is bad or positive support when a team is good???

Let’s be real honest… All you fire Lovie and this team suck people are not fanatics… Your fans of kicking kittens because its what makes you feel good…. Your points are pointless and your “concerns as a fan” are fabricated to justify and hide your real desire as wife beaters…

A real fan realizes the dog days just make the glory days that much sweeter…. A real fan sees improvement and looks for corrections to issues… A real fan sees this team has direction for a change and knows calling for the coaches head would usher in more of the same….

So to all you sad sorry fake fans… You really do a good job of abusing the true fans and mixing your hatred in with the real fans whos concerns and disappointment is valid….

I just wish you trolls would get a life but I realize bottom feeding garbage eating scum like you all get off on feeding on what you call a “garbage bottom dwelling team and franchise”. It just so happens by saying that about the team means you also feel that way about this city and your life… Can’t wait for you all to choke……….. On your words….

  40. BigMacAttack Says:

    Bwahahaha

  41. "that guy" Says:

Joe i might think your a scumbag, but you sure as hell know how to make a lot of sence. li knew the redskins won the minute tampa started running the ball in the 2 minute drill, and they never gained momentum after that.

  42. FortMyersDave Says:

JAB83: and how many of these losses that should have been win does a real fan tolerate????? Besides the Bucs and possibly Raiders I can not think of a franchise that has managed to lose in every possible way over the past 5 seasons: blowout, losing via O’Deas special teams, Lovie tanking for a draft pick, penalties, bad defense, bad kicking, everything neagative and very few positives! anyone who thinks the Bucs are close to turning the corner are certifiable…. Lovie blew a 24-0 lead today JAB83, he let the Titans beat him by 34 ****ing points, they not have won since…. Lovie’s bucs lost to a Houston team that was down by 40 to Miami before someone told the Miami coach that the o/u needed to be on the high side and he pulled his starters… Lovie is a bad coach and he can not blame the talent as his GM Licht picked most of these ****ers! I have been a Buc fan since ’76 and the last time I was this frustrated was when Schiano was 0-8 and before that when the Bucs were coached by ****ing Leeman Bennett….. Put down the Koolaid Lovie lovers, this team is bad and you really think another year of Lovie is gonna help???? Fire him, Fire him now Glazers!
