Barth Is “Exciting” To Lovie

New bromance brewing?

New bromance brewing?

Yes, one could argue the Bucs could be 3-2 entering the bye week if they had a competent kicker.

Terminated kicker Kyle Brindza missed more often than a sloppy drunk at the bar with terrible one-liners trying to lasso loose women.

Aside from takeaways and wins, Lovie doesn’t get too worked up about much. But he did confess to getting his juices flowing over Connor Barth making field goals Sunday.

“It was exciting to watch, to say the least, to put it mildly,” Lovie said yesterday. “First one out – you know last week, you guys reminded me forever, ‘Lovie, OK, you guys are going to have to cover this week. Connor is going to hit it to about the 20-yard line every [kickoff].’ That wasn’t the case. He really did a great job kicking off and of course he was perfect [on his three field goal attempts and three extra point attempts].

“What a homecoming, a welcome back and all that. There’s a lot on the kicker, to perform when his number is called. He stepped up to the plate big-time.”

The last time Joe remembered Lovie slobbering over a player so much was the last time he was asked about Johnthan Banks and instead launched into a Mike Jenkins love story.

And the way the secondary is playing 7-on-7 football in the absence of Banks, the Bucs are going to need all the field goals they can muster.

I was anxious watching Barth attempt those FG kicks. I thought he would miss. Brindza fatigue.

Actually, a fair point. When the heck did CB10 start driving kickoffs to the back of the end zone? I was glad to see it, that was really the only thing that used to hold him back from being an elite kicker in my estimation.

On the kickoffs the balls were deep into the endzone, I expected a run back from just inside the 20, spoken Barth can’t kick it off deep fatigue. He really kicked like 6 FG’s with those backed up PAT’s. That 2 point conversion was big too at the time.

So the Todd cuts Barth last year to save $$$, bad decision but Licht got away with it with an ok season with Pat Murray. This preseason he cuts both Barth and Murray for a big legged rookie that Detroit wasn’t willing to start.

Big red flag the Todd missed there.

In the year prior to Lovie/Licht, Barth had been the second coming of automatica Gramatica at very least.

One thing the Todd hopefully learned here is that you don’t mess with the kicking game.

The punter kicked off when Barth last played for us, so really didn’t know his kick off abilities.

I think Patrick Murray is currently recovering from surgery, that’s the reason he was either cut or put on IR.
