Watt Seems To Respect Jameis

Houston sackmeister J.J. Watt discussed facing America’s Quarterback.

The drama — and don’t tell Joe you hate drama — is the J.J. Watt/Amercia’s Quarterback storyline that began this summer.

When Jameis Winston was at an NFLPA function, he was asked who he looked forward to playing against. Jameis replied, “J.J. Watt.”

This seemed like the proverbial mouse nibbling at the back of the head of a snake. A rookie quarterback saying he wanted to face Watt, who seems to get riled up at any hint of disrespect? Wow, if anyone doesn’t need motivation to maul a quarterback, it is Watt.

Many Bucs fans recoiled and winced at the thought of what Watt might do to Jameis when the teams meet. That would be Sunday.

Asked about this yesterday, Jameis claimed he has admired Watt for years and considers it an honor to be on the same field. When this was relayed to Watt, the monster of the Texans’ defense quipped, “Smart rookie.”

But later, Watt seemed to have genuine respect for Jameis, types Tania Ganguli of BSPN.

“You want to rattle him,” Watt said of facing Jameis. “You want to lay some hits on him. You want to get him off the spot. You want to get him feeling your presence early in the game. There’s a reason [Jameis was picked No. 1 overall]. They’re successful. They’re good. They’re supposed to be ready to handle the situation, so you have to also give them their credit. It’s not like they’re just bums back there. They were drafted high for a reason. You have to go out there and do your best to make them uncomfortable.”

Though there is still three days until kickoff, it sure looks like Houston will be stripped of any firepower on offense.

If the Bucs can somehow avoid Jameis getting crunched by Watt and Jadeveon Clowney, like he was against Tennessee, the Bucs very well could pull off an upset.

Why would a win at Houston be an upset? Their offense is hot garbage and they are definitely beatable. The only upset would be me if they lay a turd like they did against te Titans.

A win will be a win,I don’t wanna hear that we won because they didn’t have so and so bull chit. Soon many of you will start believing, but for now you know I’ll continue waiting on it.

If the home team is favored and the away team beats them…. I’m pretty sure that’s how an upset works, Mort.

Koetter needs to take the bubble screen throw out of the gameplan. At least screen passes thrown to Watt’s side. Winston, so far, has had an issue with getting those passes picked off or close to picked off. If he throws that kind of pass on Watt’s side there’s a good chance it’s going for 6 the other way.

Personally, I would be pretty disappointed if we don’t beat Houston. They are NOT a good team, not even average really.

Koetter must make JJ spin like a top all game long without touching America’s Quarterback. This should be another fast heart pumping game for Buccaneer fans.

BTW – Licht is on FIRE!!! Comeback GM of the year!

On the couch analysts are a dime a dozen.. No matter what you guys say a W is a W. The Texans are a professional NFL team they get paid to play the game. Don’t tell me this team is not good or not average they get the same amount of time just as any other team to prepare for their opponent each week. I don’t want to hear that chit at all

  7. @Hands2theFace Says:

If our Defense shows up to play and Jac Smith & Co. can dominate the line, the field position battle should be favorable for a Bobby Rainey return to the endzone.

Our running game with Martin and Simms has to be good or else the punters are going to be exhausted by the end of this one.

All we have to do is watch the panthers film and how they did it. JJ must be hurt of some kind because he didn’t move much around the line and only had one sack against the horrible panthers oline. Their line actually stepped up and I know CAM had a lot to do with that one sack, because he is mobile. If not there would’ve been plenty more. Play to our strengths and play the screen pass, let JJ play himself out of the play, let Winston throw downfield, at least evans is back, I know our 3rd and 4th WRs will be ok. Other then that monster line, there isn’t much behind it, unless we have a horrible game like week 1.

  9. Greg Schiano Says:

Well, Fameis states he is looking forward to playing (looing upward) with JJ Watt….well Sunday is your day. The factor that JJ plays or that JW plays is not what will decide this game. The defensive game plan put on the field (or not) by Lovie is what will decide this game! If Lovie can manage the clock…not call unnecessary time outs.

How does Lovie adjust the game plan at half time to deal with the successful plays the Texans use in the first half. If the defense plays well, then the Bucs have a shot. If not, then it will be time for the drama again!

The defense CAN NOT get b!tched up by the likes of Ryan Mallet. He has no receivers. No reliable running back. Hopefully our secondary dosent make some scrub look like an all pro like week one. We can not let that happen. But sadly, its not a given at this point.
I expect the offense will struggle against such a dominant defense. Assuming our defense shows up, a field goal will probably be the difference.

  11. Buccfan37 Says:

I’m not giving the Bucs this win before the game is even played either. All the enthusiasm beforehand sounds fine, but I’ll wait for reality to play out. Go Bucs! Two wins in a row will be some seldom seen achievement of the Bucs lately.

  12. No better way to say it Says:

I dont think Bucs over Texans is an upset. The Texans are probably viewed as the better team but they have very little on offense right now. Unless the Bucs defense comes out and drops another effort similar to the one against the Titans the Bucs should not lose this game IMO.

    23-13 Bucs.

the Bucs very well could pull off an upset.

Technically an upset but not huge. The spread is currently 6.5 and 3 of that is home field advantage.

@Largo Buc If you believe it’s a field goal game this is a contest you may wish to spend some money with your short term investment broker. I saw one place where the Bucs actually got seven. That’s a full TD and if I were a betting man I would probably take the Bucs and the points. But again my dad was a bookie and so it’s better to take the bets than make them and just take your vig. 🙂
