Jameis Vs. LeBeau

September 11th, 2015
"It's not about that."

“It’s not about that.”

No, this game has nothing to do with two rookie quarterbacks who won the last two Heisman trophies facing each other in their first NFL game.

Yet it’s a catchy hook. Much sexier than two s(p)it 2-14 teams squaring off.

If America’s Quarterback, Bucs signal-caller Jameis Winston, is facing anyone, it is Titans defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau, one of the most savvy defensive coordinators in NFL history.

And LeBeau’s defenses just eat up rookies. How much so? Paul Kuharsky of BSPN has the chilling details.

Since 1995, rookie quarterbacks playing against LeBeau defenses are 3-26, with 24 touchdown passes, 37 interceptions and a .551 completion percentage. Just one, Jeff Garcia in 1999, has thrown for 300 yards.

Not very promising, is it? But Joe has an item people sure seem to be overlooking.

Last year, guiding a defense with significantly better personnel, LeBeau’s defense with the Steelers lost at home to the Bucs and quarterback of the past and quarterback of the future but not the quarterback of the present, Mike Glennon, who made just his 14th career start in Pittsburgh, still technically a rookie in so far as games started.

It proved to be the only win over a winning team all season for the Bucs.

So Joe hasn’t yet begun to drink himself to sleep.

So, if Winston goes down, we still have a chance?

  2. tdtb2015 Says:

Sorry Winston Mob is all about the “W”

  3. georgia buc fan 39 years Says:

Sorry Joe, passing the ball isn’t the only way to win a football game. Thats why they call it a TEAM !! You worry to much. In the words of Arron Rodgers RELAX!!

  4. StPeteBucsFan Says:

I get the HUGE sidebar of JW against MM even though neither has the chance to stop the other. But it’s such a natural story I have accepted it.

I’m not to in with the JW versus LeBeau however.

What IS interesting is the Koetter versus Lebeau. That sidebar is something I’ll pay attention to because it features two talented coordinators with teams that have issues after coming off 2-14 and playing rookie QB’s.

Yes I’m looking forward to the chess match between Koetter and LeBeau.

  5. CreamsicleBananaHammock Says:

I’d love to see Koetter try and counter the heavy blitzing with some 5 wide, shotgun, quick throws across the middle

  6. McBuc Says:

St Pete, you nailed it brother!

  7. Falcons Fan Says:

Sorry Bucs fans… The 1st victory “might” be against the Jags… Winston will be sacked at least 5 times… 27-14 Titans

  8. OneLove Says:

We need this win bad!!! While Dick Lebau is a legend in the sport, you still have to have PLAYERS that can execute in order for your game plan to be successful. Tennessee’s D is FULL of holes that we can exploit so I hope OUR PLAYERS can EXECUTE on offense and take advantage of the mismatches!!

Evans and Jackson are going to be looking down on those scrubs like “Jameis, just throw it up PLAYBOY!!!”

“It’s as simple as that” – Lovie Smith aka “America’s Coach”

  9. OneLove Says:

    @Falcons Fan

Get your Dirty Bird/DirtySouth STANK ASS outta here!!! Koetter is going to B!TCH SLAP DAN QUINN you B!TCH!!!!

  10. Falcons Fan Says:

ATTENTION!!!! Do not spend your hard earned money to watch your team lose. Don’t ruin your weekend people. If I lived there I would go to the beach instead

  11. Pickgrin Says:

Any past “stats” for LeBeau vs rookie QBs or even vs anything you want to look up are completely meaningless.

    Different team – different players.

Newsflash – The Tennessee Titans are very BAD defensively. They were bad last year at least and didn’t add much personnel wise. Soooooooo

A great defensive mind is pretty helpless to do what he wants to do when he doesn’t have the talent or smarts on the field to execute the plays to perfection as they are drawn up. Add the fact that these players are still learning the system – and I think that equates to Winston tearing it up against LeBeau and his Titans defense.

  12. Jim Palm Harbor Says:

We finally get to see which QB is ‘more NFL ready’.

  13. McBuc Says:

Maybe LeBeau’s defense is outdated… LOL, it is older than lovies. Just kidding.

  14. OneLove Says:

    @Falcons Fan

ATTENTION!!! Do not spend YOUR hard earned to watch YOUR team lose(The Eagles are probably gonna be playing Madden against each other at half time). Don’t ruin YOUR weekend! If I lived there I’d move to Tampa and be a Bucs fan!!

  17. vegabuc Says:

He falcons fan go seat on a pole. I guess you forgot when we had those sorry ass birds in our pocket. Anyways get the hell outta here. You Damn troll

  18. vegabuc Says:

The problem with Mr falcon is that he hates the fact that even though the bucs have been struggling lately, for about a decade we were one of the best teams in the nfl, our defense was top 10 every year, and we did get to enjoy as superbowl title as bucs fans. When was the mast time the falcons won anything? Lmao. Hit the road!

  19. Buccfan37 Says:

Falcons Fan… you more than likely won’t live long enough to ever see your team win a Super Bowl.

  20. OneLove Says:

    @Buccfan37

    LMAO!

  21. Tom Edrington Says:

Well heck since Joe already had a post that said five “experts” are saying the Bucs will win, what is all the angst about?

  22. vegabuc Says:

Buccfan37 you cracked me up man

  23. JAB83 Says:

St.Pete nails it… I would add the opposite is true as well…

The X-Factor in this game!!! ASJ… Hands down… See Gronks game last night vs former said, “ledgens” defence… If and that a big if I know but IF, ASJ balls out till his balls are out for all to see vs balls out because his balls fall out…

He could change the way teams game plan the rest of the season which could should and would add to a higher win total then expected…

You heard it here first folks (JOE’S) ASJ in this game alone could change the entire out look of the season going forward… 3 producing beast arial threats to go with the Mussel Hamster is SICK…. IF IF IF they can realize they’re talents…

Let the quest for a righteous nick name began!!!

    Call them, “The Holy Bucs!”:-p

  24. Falcons Fan Says:

Did the 58-0 beatdown feel good? There is more where that came from

  25. Louis Friend Says:

It’s kind of cool that any fan of another team thinks enough of the Bucs to actually troll their message boards. When was the last time that happened?

Maybe things are destined to get better?

  26. JAB83 Says:

ATTENTION ALL!!! Please ignore trolls… They waste message board space replying back and forth plus your time as well as mine trying to read around the…

    Thanks
Regards, A fan that wants to just enjoy serious and fun message board vs stupid ignorance. I get enough of the later in daily life… Would appreciate not seeing or having to deal with it here!!!!

  27. Howard Cosell Says:

    Lol….a Falcons troll.

I guess that never winning a Superbowl will make you grouchy.

  28. Howard Cosell Says:

    From Google:

How many Super Bowls did the Falcons win?

On January 18, 1999, the Falcons upset the top-seeded Vikings at Minnesota in the NFC Championship Game 30–27, in an exciting overtime victory. However, in their first-ever Super Bowl appearance, they lost 34–19 to the defending champion Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XXXIII while their cornerback was out picking up prostitutes.

  29. Howard Cosell Says:

    From Wikipedia:

On the night before the Super Bowl, Falcons safety Eugene Robinson was arrested for solicitation of prostitution. While driving alone in a rented car along a downtown Miami street, he approached a female undercover police officer posing as a prostitute and offered $40 for oral sex. Although he was released from jail and allowed to play the game, he was widely denounced by the press and fans for the incident. Robinson’s arrest was especially ironic because on the very morning of the day it happened, he had received the Bart Starr Award for his “high moral character.”

  30. The original "Kevin" Says:

Im sorry but in my eyes I am watching Winston vs Mariotta. All this time we have heard how Winston is more oro ready and win now while mariotta could possibly have a better upside. Now its turned to we just want to see growth. Screw that….its a team with a rookie qb vs another team with a rookie qb. And honestly we have more talent than they do. If we lose its going to a reality check for those who thought Mariotta wasnt the guy. I hope Winston proves me wrong but after being convinced…my pre draft pro mariotta is coming back out. I hope Winston makes me feel stupid and proves me wrong but I feel like come Sunday Mariotta will put the Titans on his back. Hopefully Winston does the same. Less tha. 48 hours until we know which team made the better pick.

  31. Buc1987 Says:

The original “Kevin”…Winston and Mariota don’t play defense. Just so you understand that. This is Mariota vs the crappy Bucs defense and Winston vs the crappy Titans defense.

Then factor in all the youth on our team and flags will be flying all game long.

Check back in 3 years to see which QB is the better QB or better yet you won’t have to wait that long. By the middle of this season you’ll get it. Every Buc fan will understand why Jameis was the pick.

  32. LargoBuc Says:

All that Falcon fan has to feel proud of is a game last year early in the regular season! Shove it! Cause you will never know the euphoria of your team winning it all. Ever. No matter if your team beats us again and again, it wont change anything. Falcons suck, just like they always have and always will. At least Saints fans earned the right to be a little smug. Not like these Falcon fans that will never know whats its like to be the best.
As for the game, Lebeau has no James Harrison. Casey Hampton. James Farrior. Aaron Smith. Toy Polamalu. Ryan Clark. Bret Keisel. He has no one close to those guys. So while I respect his expertise in regards to running a two gap, 34 defense, his new defense is hardly scary. As long as we come in ready to rip someones head off, we be good.

  33. LargoBuc Says:

But we all know the national media is praying that we lose. No way do they want their golden boy to get btched up by Jameis team. Then they will have to find a way to spin it to where Jameis still looks like dirt(they likely have to make up some off field sht) and make sure Marcus comes out smelling like roses!

  34. Dave Says:

Um …. He was coaching Steelers for decades as the DC not the Titans.

Personally, I think the Bucs win easily. I think the defense will be much better than people think … A top 10 defense.
The offense.. Who knows. The talent is there except for the O Line so that’s a major issue.
But they can run block and have done capable RBs.

  35. Howard Cosell Says:

The national media has lightened up a lot (at least ESPN and sports media).
I saw them giving Winston props for his behavior and work ethic on ESPN
    last week.

    This is Koetter vs LeBeau.
    MacArthur vs Rommel
    Alexander vs Darius

Lol….This is an epic struggle of 1st class NFL minds…
    Go Bucs!

  36. CalBucsFan Says:

Glad to read a reality article for once, it is the Bucs offense against the Titans defense, not QB vs. QB. Would be nice to read something about the Bucs defense against the Titans offense too, is that article coming tomorrow before kick-off Joe?
