Jameis Says Only He Made Mistakes

September 20th, 2015
Jameismug

Natural, honest leader.

There stood Jameis Winston, America’s Quarterback, at the podium in the bowels of the SuperDome after today’s thrilling win.

Mistakes were made around him in the form of a fumble and drops and dumb penalties, but Jameis comfortably and excitedly directed all negative attention to himself.

“We played great around me. Doug was toting the ball. Offense played outstanding. I’m the only one that messed up when I could have had two easy touchdowns,” Jameis said, referring to throws to Austin Seferian Jenkins and Vincent Jackson in the end zone

“And I overthrew them. In this league, touchdowns really mater and you got to take advantage of those opportunities.”

Jameis said it all with a smile in his voice and face, and as a model of accountability and leadership.

For the record, Seferian-Jenkins got two hands on Jameis’ touch pass and needs to squeeze that if he wants to be considered a great tight end at some point.

V-Jax could have laid out for Jameis’ overthrow but did not dive, despite being on the run across the back of the end zone and heading toward the corner.

No, they were not perfect throws, but Jameis the perfectionist doesn’t see that. Be confident that his honest it’s-on-me attitude is noticed in the Bucs’ locker room.

How can you NOT LOVE this guy as our QB. I hope Lovie lets Koetter turn him loose. Better play on the O line. Marpet looks like the real deal for sure.

  2. University of Seffner Says:

    Stay humble Jameis!

  3. Deminion Says:

Go Jameis!!! Marpet has some dog in him

  4. Lue0615 Says:

I believe this last draft was on point. These players will work out. Just my opinion

  5. This Guy Right Here Says:

Very proffesional of Jameis. Eventually, he will not miss that throw(s).

JAMEIS >>>>>> MARIOTA F U MARIOTA FANS!!!JAMEIS IS THE BEST

  8. JAB83 Says:

Only thing he could have done better is route them…. LOL… Just saying… Really nothing much to stress about with this performance just keep working it the same way….. Taking what the other team gives you…. Haulmark of the best… Never take more than your given and pick your spots to test them…

  9. The original "Kevin" Says:

Joe can we get an update on Mccoy. Looks to me like hes gonna miss some time. Thats a huge loss. “Jack”wont be the same without him on the line

  10. Tentatively Jolly Bucs Fan Says:

You cant watch that press conference and not love this kid. Jameis is something special

  11. cometowin2 Says:

Great that we got the win but hate that Lovie was not willing to go for the throat and trust Jamie’s to win the game. All those runs on 1st and 2nd down almost let Bree’s bring them back. That has Lovie’s fingerprints all over it.

  12. BuccoBill Says:

I’ll give you the VJax miss, Joe’s but the ASJ miss was off his finger tips. Can’t squeeze a ball that isn’t on the palms. And he was at the high point! Just watched the play again to make sure.

  13. StPeteBucsFan Says:

The pass to ASJ was actually a great pass! He had to feather it over a rushing defender and did so perfectly. ASJ didn’t make a play but he too seems to be gaining in confidence.

What impressed me as much as anything is that Fameis finally let the game come to him instead of pressing so hard early on. When it finally did come to him he cashed in. That drop at the ten of ASJ also cost perhaps another TD…but ASJ is improving and is also virtually a rookie.

Gotta feel good about a very, very young team that is clearly improving. And today they showed a little dog in them and actually hung on to win a game that they would have lost last year…in fact a game they did lose last year in OT.

  14. Buc1987 Says:

Was there any stumbling and bumbling on drop backs?

  15. CreamsicleBananaHammock Says:

    But CRAB LEGS!!!!!

  16. Bucnut2 Says:

Joe, JW said it well 2 bad throws. Let it go. HE messed up.

  17. passthebuc Says:

Still do not believe Winston will be an elite QB in this league. Average, but not elite. to me he is too slow in a league with talented rushers. The QB needs at time to scramble and to do that he needs to be quick. I could be wrong and only time will tell.

  18. Buc1987 Says:

A rookie QB made a few mistakes in a game at N.O. and the Bucs won the game.

    Who’s complaining? Buttnut2?

Well he’s been running his lil mouth in here all day like a truck stop hooker….his jaw must be tired.

  19. Buc1987 Says:

Come back in THREE years and tell us all about Winston’s flaws. Right now just be happy that your team won the effing game AT N.O.

How many people predicted THAT to happen? Not me. Certainly not the Winston doubters, whiners, or what have you. 90% of this blog picked the Bucs to lose to today and they won.

My brothers put a smile on your face…the Bucs just WON!

  20. DB55 Says:

No more ice cream? Melton stepped up at the right time. McDonald obviously the muscle on the d-line. Jac smith quickly came up with 3 sacks. Tim Jennings will improve. Still no idea how conte beats out Tandy at safety. Conte gets multiple concussions every game. Talk about getting run over by Robinson.

Ali Marpet is an absolute beast, best player on the line right now. #78 a liability, I prefer anyone over EDS at least the new can snap the ball with some power behind it. Mankins is disappointing me for a captain and smith needs to move his feet.

Winston will get better, I would have ran the ball on 3&6 as well as 3&3. Sims is still garbage, sorry. Lovie still looks confused out there.

    #10-6

  21. BuccaneEric75 Says:

Winston played better than his stats, and the stats were good. ASJ should have came up with that long catch on the misdirection play. Winston was on point with that sideline throw to Evans. He could have had a few back, though. He wasn’t perfect, but he was a lot better than last week. Remember, Pro ready doesn’t mean you come into the league as the best QB there is.

  22. BuccaneEric75 Says:

Also, Winston did something today that a lot of people said he couldn’t do. He went the whole game without an interception!!!

  23. DoNUTS Says:

    Great TEAM WIN!!

JW looked much better; team looked in sync on offense. Looking forward to next week @Texas…real test is coming for this OL. Marpet looks solid.

  24. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

Any chance Dallass calls Licht tonight or tomorrow inquiring about Glennon?

  25. cmurda Says:

It feels so extra sweet knowing I was all in on Jameis well before the draft. I admit that I questioned it last week when Mariota ripped us a new one. Actually, Mariota had a pretty good game too but Jameis looks like he will continue to get better. I think they both will be fine QBs but I love what I saw Fameis do today. He has to learn to throw it away and accept when a play isn’t there. His footwork and decision-making were spot on though and that’s a great sign.

  26. SOEbuc Says:

And some of those flags thrown were just outrageous. That tripping on that long D Martin screen?!!! What do you want the guy to do?!!!

  27. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    @87

Was there any stumbling and bumbling on drop backs?

NO! And that was an area of great improvement physically. In addition he looked really good stepping into his passes as well and of course the 50 yard bomb on the run…what an arm.

The other thing I noticed is that he didn’t seem to be limping at all in between plays. He looked as if he was walking normally. I’m wondering if the Bucs didn’t simply hide the severity of the ankle sprain and it’s finally healing.

  28. Buc Neckid Says:

    Marpet looks solid
Jameis Looks like a Number One Pick in his Rookie year with ups and downs
Smith looks average. But if that is where he starts and gets better from, well, then that is OK.
    Same with Kwon
VJAX and Mankins however look like they are both in their last year.
And I only noticed the new Center after I saw the Shotguns Snaps no longer had hangtime.

  29. cmurda Says:

I think Smith has been better than average. The penalties on the O Line have to stop but Smith is doing the job.

  30. Buc Neckid Says:

Jameis’ fumble in the Fourth cannot happen.
That was him *trying* to do too much
but could have cost the Game

  31. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    @Buc Neckid

Originally I thought the same thing and you do have a good point. However at that time in the game #3 may have thought running clock was still critical enough to merit running it. He seemed to wrap up and try to hit the ground but sometimes you just have to give the other team credit as well. It was a good punch that popped the ball out.

if he had been running with the ball loose like a loaf of bread I would’ve been peoedd but he was just trying to get down and keep the clock running.

  32. Clint Says:

    Love this kid

  33. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

I really liked his presser. Especially when he talked about his Grandmother. You can tell he wants to make her proud.

  34. Eric Says:

I saw three quarterbacks today who showed marked improvement from their rookie season.

    Borttles. Carr. Manziel.

Takes a couple of training camps and some games under your belt.

That said the passes to VJAX and Murphy today were the stuff of legend.

  35. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Sure….he was barely off with a couple of throws…..but, I thought he looked better than Brees…..

    Don’t oversell Jameis…or be overprotective…..he really doesn’t need either.

Just let him gain experience…..the rest will take care of itself.

  36. Espo Says:

From every angle available to me, I thought V Jax should’ve made that catch.

  37. tval Says:

Here comes the leadership. Teammates are learning to sacrifice everything for a guy like thjs. Its a process. Loved seeing lovie & lichts borderline sb celebration. Well deserved, bucsnation. Enjoy the week. Let mike get healthy and its on

  38. tval Says:

Bortles is awesome and Johnny was never given a shot. I havent seen carr enough, but looked good today

  39. brett Says:

I hope Lovie doesn’t get him killed.

  40. tval Says:

Eagles need glennon more.:-) Rg3?? Skins never wld. Chip is done

  41. tval Says:

No marcus didnt. 4 fumbles, and atrocious late game red zone int, that was.called back on dline flag. He handed a lb(dansby) the ball, scared to death, a play before too. Play man vs marcus. The small windows absolutely killed him

  42. Ed Says:

Got to give credit where credit is due and jameis deserves some props for his play today. Much smarter than last week. No ints was huge. Made some nice throws. When given a pocket and just a bit of time he can see the field well no doubt apout that. Got to be able to beat the bad teams and right now the saints are a bad team. Lets see how he does vs the Texans who have a much better pass rush. Just continue being a game manager for now and there’s no reason why it shouldn’t be a competitive game.

  43. Danati74 Says:

All you Mariota fans,…he got sacked 7 times tonight. How is Jack Smith leading NFL in sacks.

  44. Rhonnie Fordham Says:

Go Jameis! Them Mariota whiners just witnessed Djamego Unchained.

  45. Buc_Down_Under Says:

Anyone else remember when Free would have a massive overthrow the first thing he’d do is start gesturing to the receiver like “you ran the wrong route”?
