Inexcusable Performance

September 13th, 2015
Complete failure today.

Complete failure today.

Joe is really trying not to get caught in the first-game-of-the-season overreaction. So believe it or not, the following is a tempered article.

Joe cannot remember covering a more shameful Bucs performance.

Yes, Joe covered the Steelers whipping the Bucs a few years ago, and too many beatdowns by Drew Brees and the Saints.

And it was horrible last year that the Dixie Chicks and the Crows completely and totally manhandled the Bucs as if they were a high school team.

None matches today. None.

The Bucs let a rookie quarterback making his first NFL start nearly toss a perfect game. They were as ill-prepared as any team Joe has seen. Adjustment? What adjustments? Let’s let Marcus Mariota nitpick the defense to death with three-yard passes that turned into double-digit gains.

The offense? Coaches didn’t seem to do anything to put America’s Quarterback, Bucs signal-caller Jameis Winston, in better positions to help him. Were there any quick-step dropbacks?

Besides, other than the Titans, no team researched Mariota more than the Bucs. No team. The way Mariota carved up Lovie Smith’s precious defense, it was as if Mariota fell to the Earth from Mars this morning.

Today was as complete of an organizational failing as Joe has ever seen. And to be frank, the lion’s share of the blame falls right on the shoulders of the head coach and de facto defensive coordinator, Lovie.

Simple as that.

“Tennessee ready,” huh? After today, Bucs fans are Tennessee ready all right. Ready for many bottles of Tennessee bourbon.

Siege the day!

    Kenny Bell?

  2. Clodhopper Says:

    Fire Lovie

Rookie QB in very first game gets to take the entire 4th quarter off.

Enough is enough with his defense and his teams lack of energy.

  3. Rhonnie Says:

Like I said, some of these naysayers are annoying. The fans booing Jameis is also pretty inexcusable. We’re talking about a 21-year-old rookie. Mistakes are gonna happen. Luck’s first game was absolutely abysmal while RG3 was spectacular. We saw how that turned out.

  4. LJ'sDaddy Says:

Mariota did have a perfect QB rating. Maybe the game wasn’t perfect but his rating was.

  5. Greg Says:

The 2015 season ended in the first quarter of the first game. I’ve been a lovie beliver but this is BS, if he can’t reach 5 wins this year he should be fired and Koetter should be promoted to head coach(we can’t have Winston run a new system every year)

  6. mdc1969 Says:

Ok Joe… Why not just react. This team, coach, and especially ownership are pathetic.

  7. Louis Friend Says:

Fire Lovie. Right here, right now. We ALL know it’s going to happen. Save the suspense and start the search.

  8. richbucsfan Says:

We were told since OTA’s that the Bucs were preparing for the Titans. We told the same in preseason. And, after all those months of prep, we get this? Are you kidding me? What will it look like when there are just a few days to prepare? Looks bad to me.

  9. Bucs Fan Living In Kentucky Says:

Umm…. There’s no such thing as Tennessee Bourbon. Bourbon is only bourbon if it’s made in Kentucky. Maybe lovie meant he was ready for Kentucky and forgot who he was playing. Sure seemed like it tonight

  10. AbandonShip Says:

There were a a lot of No. 3 only mistakes today. The pick 6, the screen pass int, the 4 dropped ints, the passes that went nowhere, the phantom sacks, and the fumbled handoffs that ended up as negative yards. Now to blame that all on the coach and none on the player is silly. No. 3 is going to set the franchise back 4yrs, just like No.5.

  11. D-Rome Says:

I’m sick and tired of looking at other teams in the NFL wishing the Bucs as an organization had promise like most of those teams. This is Lovie’s team now right? Most of the Schiano men are gone. This is the team he built, especially on defense. I thought after last year these guys understood Lovie’s scheme.

I’m watching the opening credits for the NFL on NBC. Not one Bucs player is featured giving a smile or high five to Carrie Underwood. We suck and will continue to suck.

  12. bucrightoff Says:

Lovie was always a safe hired designed to calm the fans down after Schiano. Everyone knew him from the good old days, except they forget he was a position coach then, and that his overall resume in Chicago was decidedly lacking (but Rex Grossman SB…). When he couldn’t win with a veteran team last year, why would anyone think he could win going young? You gotta admit mistakes and move on. And the Glazers need to swallow their pride and can Lovie and Licht. No one trusts them to run a hot dog stand let alone a NFL team.

  13. Bubbabucsfan Says:

Here comes all of the wannabe gm’s that are gonna say that the bucs should’ve taken Mariota.

  14. Bucs Fan #7423 Says:

New season and we’re still a laughing stock

  15. Bucs53 Says:

I think Lovie has to go. There seems to be nothing but regression and wasted talent. Unfortunately, I have zero faith that the Glazers will actually hire a decent coach to replace him.

  16. FR Says:

If Lovie was any good he wouldn’t have been sitting in a basement for so long. Just the first game, right and then its just the second game and so on and so on……. until they fire his a—

  17. TimFasano Says:

We were told Mariota was a ” work in progress” and that Jamie’s Winston would be “NFL READY” on day one. That’s not what I saw today. Lovie Smith is 2-15 in Tampa. I would say he is on the bubble.

  18. Elle Says:

What needs to happen now is redouble every effort and hope that it’ll be enough to make something good out of this campaign. Somehow, I doubt they’ll find a way, but I hope to be proven damn wrong. Might have been just the first game, but the way the team got outplayed and outcoached was dreadful to watch. This game was a hope-killer, what you had to do was avoiding an opener like this. But it happened and now it’s up to the players/coaches to show us that they can improve and learn from this.

  19. JWBUCS Says:

JOE… Do not refer to Winston, ever again as A QB!

  20. mac Says:

Funny thing is the Titans could have scored 20-30 more points if they wanted to… They were hardly playing by the fourth quarter…

    Fire Lovie…

    This is an embarrassment…

  21. Falcons Fan Says:

Tough loss fellas! I knew the Bucs were gonna lose just not that bad… At least TB will own the #1 pick in the draft in back to back years…Better luck next year guys

  22. Martinii Says:

BS Joe just backed the wrong first pick. He looked like a fish out of water and the guy we should have picked is the real deal.

  23. lightningbuc Says:

Joe…at what point do you admit you don’t know your ass from your elbow when it comes to QBs?

In 2013 you wanted the Bucs to extend Josh Freeman to a “team friendly” contract (whatever that means).

    JOE KNOWS QBs!

  24. ilg insomniac XBOX gamertag hmu Says:

lovey is not a head coach….same as wade Philips..the old bills head coach…both guys are gud as D coordinators…not a knock on them as people..but u must stay in your lane….I definitely think we go 2/14 again…only wins will be fluke…if we lost to the second worst team , how dare we think to beat anyone else…its very laughable…dag were 0-2 already…

  25. thunderchunkyPA Says:

This was the 3rd game in 17 Lovie games where the team did not even show. That is inexcusable. He took over the D play calling and this was gawd-aweful. They looked lost, what a mess. And the penalties on O are STILL happening, yes Joe, that’s all on the coach. These are his hand picked guys, and he ( bleeps) his pants and at home. Team Glazier went back to the future, and once again, missed on the HC. Chucky was canned after 9-7, we wouldgive our left arm for 9-7. WTF

  26. Bucs Fan #7423 Says:

We would be better off if Lovie just left now like Jeff Tedford did

  27. ChanEpic Says:

They went for it on 4th down in the first half when only down by two TDs at the time, if I rember correctly. That kind of panicked play calling makes me sick. And since I was at the game I didn’t understand the zebras giving them the first down after measuring and then REMEASURING to take it away?!? WTF was that crap? Either way this team and the people making the decisions seem lost the moment the step into one buc place. 7 pts until very late in the game, Arroyo could have donw that! Sheesh!

  28. philip garner Says:

very embarrising loss, especially on the defensive side of the ball. Lovie as defensive cordinateor sucks just as a head coach. My Bucs flag is coming down tomorrow and will not watch another game this year.

  29. DB55 Says:

It takes time to build a winning team in the NFL. It’s takes time to learn the Tampa 2 defense. Lovie has a history of winning. He went to the SB with Rex grossman for god sakes. I’m much more confident in Lovie and PROFESSIONAL coaches who know much more than you trolls.

You’re not a real fan if you disagree with anything Lovie is doing.

  30. BKNYfootballhead Says:

“Let’s let Marcus Mariota nitpick the defense to death with three-yard passes that turned into double-digit gains.”

I think the stat guys from PFF will prove this wrong, Mariota didn’t appear to throw many short passes from my viewing.

Perhaps I’m wrong, but that appears to be a lame excuse, Joe.

  31. Buc1987 Says:

    Is he fired yet?

    If not by tomorrow…how long?

  32. T REX Says:

2-15 and in his 17th game the team looks like hot garbage.

    Lovie was/is a mistake.

4-12 or worse and he should be fired along with Ed “loser” Glazer

  33. John Herb Says:

Hey Joe, I finally get it! America’s “WORST” quarterback.#Draft do over!

  34. FanOfBucs Says:

Officially time to be very concerned about this regime.

    What a joke

Here comes all of the wannabe gm’s that are gonna say that the bucs should’ve taken Mariota.”

    Did you watch the game?

  36. NonyaDamnBucsiness Says:

Just like past seasons, we sucked in preseason and it carries into the regular season. Words cannot describe how poor this home opener went or how disgusted I was watching it. Lovie has lost my love. His teams are not agressive, just like him. JW3 looked worse than his preseason while Mariota was sharp and quick with his throws. I was glad we picked Winston but feel either would have been good choices. I now think JW3 should have stayed in college to percolate another year or two. He is not ready, just like our coaches.

Den of Depression is too nice a title!

  37. SuperSam Says:

PLEASE FIRE LOVIE AND TRADE WINSTON, PLEASE GLAZERS PLEASE I BEG YOU!!! FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!!

  38. Bucco brice Says:

You’re digging a bigger hole by continually defending Winston…ridiculous…mariota is and will always be the better qb…a superstar…we blew it in the draft and selecting coaches….lovie is horrible…3 worst losses in bucs history in last 17 games…FIRE LOVIE FIRE LOVIE FIRE LOVIE FIRE LOVIE

  39. mark2001 Says:

There is no excuse for this kind of performance….that is one…..one more, and Lovie is gone immediately….no matter when that is during the season.

  40. Warthog Says:

With this kind of thing happening season after season, there needs to be a total housecleaning, instead of just reshuffling the guys at the top every couple of years. Fire everyone from Smith down to the waterboys and TRY to make a completely fresh start, somehow.

    Keep the cheerleaders, I guess.

Man. I didn’t even need to see a win. I just needed to see a competitive product being put on the field. Woulda happily taken a 21-14 loss.

Our defense has some talented individuals but seems like they can’t mesh as unit? I guess the whole getting-torn-apart-by-Anderson thing from last year wasn’t a fluke – Lovie’s defense get torn apart by everyone and anyone – backups, rookies, journeymen. It’s not scheme, it’s missed assignments, missed tackles and mental mistakes. Lovie is not instilling any kind of mental toughness in these guys.

As for Winston, well whatever, I was expecting mistake-riddled performances during his rookie year. It’s our allegedly experienced D with alleged elite guys like McCoy and David that really disappointed tonight. First game of the year at RayJay was a sellout – I guarantee that won’t be the case or the rest of the reason. Sad, but you can’t blame the fans if they choose to stay home after this one.

  41. philip garner Says:

oh, I forgot, why did not Lovie call for a review on the defensive and offensive touchdowns?WTF.

  42. DallasBuc Says:

    Lovie Smith is competent.

  43. Under Siege Says:

Let’s siege the day – cut the supply lines ($) to this inept team. a drastic decline in attendance is our best way to send a signal to ownership.

  44. Jc tree Says:

I like Joe , but he went all in with Jameis. FREAKIN pathetic show at home. Absolutely not competitive team.

  45. This Guy Right Here Says:

    *Former Lovie Apologist

The man is just not smart enough to be a 2015 NFL Head Coach… He cant scheme, He Cant Adjust during halftime… HIS OWN DEFENSE WONT EVEN PLAY FOR HIM!!

He’s currently KILLING CAREERS while he’s up there CLUELESS as our HC!

Cut Bait & Fire This Moron Glazers!!!

  46. Buc1987 Says:

BKNYfootballhead…there was quite a lot of dink and dunk from the Titans, maybe not as many 3 yarders as Joe’s suggesting though.

    FireLoveSmithNow.com

  47. Rhonnie Says:

Jameis threw more TDs than Peyton Manning or Luck in their first games. Y’all are nuts. The more athletic QB will always play better when both have garbage o-lines. Just give it time. Peyton Manning was horrific in his first 3-4 games.

  48. Bucs Fan #7423 Says:

    @Nonya

Jamies is ready, our O-Line isn’t!

  49. mdc1969 Says:

So the Glazers master plan is for the Bucs to suck so bad that everyone in the Tampa Bay Area becomes Manchester United fans?

  50. Jason hull Says:

Nothing but a total embarrassing showing no other words but embarrassing disgrace

  51. Stevek Says:

1-15 lone win in week 17, as the team rests their starters for a playoff run.

Can anyone tell me why Schiano got ran out of town, and Lovie’s can’t even carry his playbook, yet Lovie continues to get a pass?

    Will there be billboards?

  52. kaput Says:

Bourbon is from Kentucky, not Tennessee.

  53. nate_tweetz Says:

For all the Mariota Lovers… If you plugged Mariota in at QB for the Bucs with the rest of the team and coaching being the same does he play as well? I think not. Yes, Winston made some rookie mistakes, because NEWSFLASH: he’s a rookie. Mariota did not look like a rookie because our defense did NOTHING to make him look like a rookie. I don’t remember one time Mariota having to defer to his 2nd or 3rd option. His 1st option was open, running free EVERYTIME. Our DB’s played 8 yards off the ball while Mariota quick slanted them to death, then couldnt tackle them. Our defense made Derek Anderson look like TomBrady last year too. So tired of this crap!

  54. nate_tweetz Says:

Mariota faced a tougher defense going up against Ohio State

  55. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    @BKNY

I agree with you. MM’s passes did not all seem like dink and dunk to me and some of even the short passes, especially in the red zone were things of beauty…quick release..tight spiral..through small red zone windows. Why do we have so much difficulty giving another player credit for a great game.

Yes Lovie’s defense sucked…but MM certainly had SOMETHING to do with that.
Stop dissing him it makes us all look like sore losers.

I’m not blaming ALL of this on #3…The coaching sucked…but right behind that was #3 playing just horribly.

But again as the blog optimist and not wishing the FSU people’s hatred upon me may I close with a positive note. Fameis is in good company.

Winston, No. 1 overall pick and 2013 Heisman winner, did something rare, too, becoming the first quarterback since Brett Favre in 1991 to have his first NFL pass intercepted and returned for a touchdown.

Can anybody provide a link to the quarter by quarter stats. I really have tried googling. I want to see our rushing versus the Titans in the 1st Q and maybe even the entire half. The OL did not suck. They actually showed promise.

  56. T REX Says:

Dallas – Lovie is trash. He’s done nothing here. Nothing but lose. Lovie is washed up. This is his last NFL gig.

  57. rayjay1122 Says:

Everyone who is calling for Lovie’s head are not thinking big enough. Who hired Lovie? The Glazers keep hiring these clowns and we keep sucking. We will suck until we get owners with a clue, who can evaluate coaches who in turn can evaluate, acquire and coach talented players.

  58. Erik with Clean Athletics Says:

Mariota was the pick and we Blew it.

    Sickening…

  59. RP Says:

Tomorrow the goobers will says its just one game. However, the reality is the team that destroyed us today was equally awful last season and we see how the Titans ownership reacted in the off season versus our own. This is 100% a front office issue. Of course Lovie will be gone at the end of the season if not sooner, but what’s next? This is not the Glazer organization that delivered us from obscurity. Once the Elder Glazer became ill and the fab five took over, this organization has been completely dysfunctional. I lived through the Culverhouse era and I never imagined I would see those dark days again. Deja Vu!

  60. DallasBuc Says:

That darn DallasBuc is just a hater, troll, RACIST, fool. Lovie Smith is greatness personified. He took the Bears to the most boring Manning SuperBowl in a losing effort with Grossman. Instant Super Bowl respect. What a wizard!

  61. Bird Says:

Who ever posted Jameis Winston Canada s quarterback is hilarious and right on. That guy was in slow motion and threw a dying duck. Joe still couldn’t wait to see him in the shower after the game.

For season ticket holders. Their new theme should be “siege our pay”

  62. StPeteBucsFan Says:

If you plugged Mariota in at QB for the Bucs with the rest of the team and coaching being the same does he play as well?

Obviously impossible speculation but IMHO he would have given us a chance to win. No ints…both of those on simple NFL plays…an out and a swing pass without pressure on #3…he probably doesn’t trip and fall down so much and perhaps he doesn’t have the same sweaty palms or small hands or whatever causes #3 such difficulty simply handling the ball…I had flashbacks of that horrible play in the Rose Bowl.

No I’m not calling #3 a bust after one game…yes UTIMATELY he has more upside than MG8 but I’m not honestly sure he is actually more NFL ready than MG8 AT THIS POINT. One more performance like today and perhaps he needs to watch awhile from the bench.

He has a history of sucking in the first part of games…maybe he just get’s too pumped.

  63. Kalind Says:

I think you need to serious consider firing Lovie tonight. Playing Glennon for the year and letting Jameis sit and watch. For the record, I think Glennon is a barely competent human, let alone QB. But getting Jameis killed this year playing for this turd of a team could ruin him. Promote Koetter, let Frazier call the plays, and have an eye on the future. Be thinking about FAs and the draft, be scheming for trades. Try to stack the deck in your favor now for a good off season. Good teams prepare well and build on success.

They really need to hire someone who can coach/scheme a defense. THis is just…..I’m not sure I couldn’t do better. Honestly.

  64. Bucs53 Says:

I find it interesting that for once the media is being the voice of reason while the Bucs fans seem to be cliff diving. I think Schwab summed up Winston’s performance perfectly:

“He looked like a typical rookie playing on a bad team with a coach in Lovie Smith who looks like he should have been fired after last season.”

  65. DallasBuc Says:

T Rex- you may be new here so word of the day is sarcasm. Cheers!

  66. Marksalot Says:

    @ nate_tweetz
Exactly, Exactly, could not have said it better myself. Lovie is the biggest problem this team has!

  67. tmaxcon Says:

i am guessing Realist is at the skyway holding up a sign reading “I told you so!” where are you realist… digesting this embarrassing loss before chiming in are you… eagerly awaiting…

it’s time for the glazers to cut their losses. everyone wants to give lovie credit for cutting is mistakes now it’s the glazers turn… save the bay trade lovie to ISIS…

  68. WyomingBucsFan Says:

I know this sounds crazy or maybe not, I thinky Lovie just got fired today. With that said I hope the Glazers offer John Gruden what ever he wants and rehire him as the head coach. I know this sounds crazy but this team is not mentally in the game. Let Gruden come in and work with the current coaching staff if he wants to, if not let him do what ever he wants. Bottom line is this team is totally unprepared. This is a pipe dream I know but I’m just in disbelief right now. This is the worst Bucs performance I have ever seen, and I know the ownership is ready to pull the plug.

  69. Aceofaerospace Says:

Malcolm Glazer once said he regretted not firing Sam Wyche at halftime of a game in which Trent Dilfer looked very unprepared. God I miss Malcolm. Malcolm would not make that mistake again. Fire Lovie.

  70. Kalind Says:

Had they played likely is against GB or NE or Indy, I woulda said, “meh. Those teams are great.”

SPOILER ALERT: we played Tennessee. A team that was just as bad or worse than us last year. Sweet mercy.

Dear Glazers. Please call me. I can fix this in one season.

  71. Buc1987 Says:

I thought Mariota played very well. Then again every QB is going to play well against this “PASSIVE” defense. I don’t blame JW’s boneheaded INT’s on the o-line. I blame it on rookie mistakes ,which are going to happen to Mariota as well down the line when he’s not playing up against Lovie Smith. He played very good though, but then again like I said…

How do you judge how good Mariota is going to be after our D played liked total SHYTE? I can’t yet. I certainly won’t judge Winston after only his first ever NFL start. Some of you can be immature and do so if you like, but you’re just being pointless. This season is young kiddies. Give Mariota AND our QB Jameis Winston more time to develop.

  72. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    @Erik

Mariota was the pick and we Blew it.

I agree with the first part of your statement but the jury is out on the 2nd part.

Again an FSU QB lead us to the SuperBowl win. Nobody thinks Brad Johnson is a HOFer or even a superstar. #3 simply has to be good enough to lead us to a SB.
I haven’t given up that hope yet…but he is beyond green and needs tons of work to simply get to Brad Johnson/Trent Dilfer/Joe Flacco status. He’s NOT NFL ready.

  73. Bucs53 Says:

    stpetebucsfan:

That’s a big leap. If the point differential hadn’t been as high as it was I could see some logic in your thinking, but the truth is our defense could never stop the Tennessee offense. I don’t think we would have been able to stop Mettenberger either. Wiping two interceptions off of the board don’t make up the point differential.

So no, in your hypothetical scenario, I don’t think Mariota could have won this game for the bus.

  74. This Guy Right Here Says:

I should have known… With his moronic, double-talk pressers… The man is just not that bright… He may be a Decent DC (debatable), but todays NFL Head Coaches are fcukin gurus…. Eloquent… Masterminds…. Motivators…

This man is Passive.. Soft… Plays Not to Lose (You Win a Fckin Coin Toss Lovie, You Take The Ball And Put Up 6 Points You Peice Of Shh..)

Im Done with this Clown… Damn Near Done With This Team…

Koetter as Interim HC…. Marinelli as DC in 2016… Gruden/Koetter/Marinelli in ’16!!!!!

  75. Warthog Says:

Yeah this isn’t about Winston. He’s a rookie QB, he’s gonna have bad performances.

    The real storyline here is:

An experienced defensive coach with a decent roster of defensive players got torn apart by Mariota in his first game.

That’s the concern here, not Winston getting used to the NFL in his rookie season.

  76. Bucblake Says:

Please fire the entire coaching staff. The entire team should hang their heads. We looked like a high school team

  77. Buc1987 Says:

Warthog…that’s 1000% correct. Yet some won’t see it that way. Let’s see how Mariota does up against a REAL defense first. I’m not saying Winston played well. He played average for his first start, but even if he had played above average that does not excuse Lovie Smith’s defense.

    Fire Lovie Smith tomorrow.

  78. T REX Says:

This is the Winston you drafted though. Last year he threw early picks and put his team in a hole. In the ACC? Sure you can come back. NFL? You lose 42-14.

This is just like at FSU.

  79. Michael Says:

It’s so funny..no one remembers Lucks first game being worse than Winstons..and Griffin played a great game..and look where they are now. Seriously, I read some guy say trade Winston and fire lovie..do you even know what you’re saying or are you just typing anythig? I agree lovie won’t win us a superbowl but Winston deserves at least a few games.

  80. jb Says:

    “America’s Quarterback” LMAO!!!

  81. Red86 Says:

It’s time to tear the defense up and getting new people in here. Our defense sucked for three different coaches. The players are what connected to each of the past 2 firing. I don’t think a new coach can fix these guys. The boy scout club are too soft. We need to consider trading McCoy and Glennon by the trade deadline. Get some players and picks for them. It’s been all talk but little to show for it on defense.

Its should be a giving that rookies will struggle. Can’t get too upset over Jameis.

  82. Buc1987 Says:

I’ll even go so far as to say Glennon played better in his first start….but Winston’s not the problem with this team.

We all know who the problem is….

This team went backwards from Schiano and looks worse than last season. Does it not?

  83. WyomingBucsFan Says:

You can blame Winston all you want but that loss wasn’t even half on him. I really think Lovie fired himself today.

  84. StPeteBucsFan Says:

I think Glennon is a barely competent human, let alone QB. But getting Jameis killed this year

Where does this stuff come from? A barely competent human being? What has he done to deserve that slam? I get people who believe he sucks as a QB…but as a human?

I’m still trying to find the stats but did I watch a different game? How many times did Jameis get slammed to the ground by a blitz or a rushing DL. How many times did he simply slip and fall or trip over his or somebody.

This was NOT on the OL…#3 needs to be held accountable or he will NEVER improve. We need to stop with the excuse. The very first step in fixing a problem is admitting that problem.

  85. Buc1987 Says:

“This is the Winston you drafted though. Last year he threw early picks and put his team in a hole. In the ACC? Sure you can come back. NFL? You lose 42-14.

This is just like at FSU.”

Do you think those INT’s are what cost the Bucs this game?

  86. Buc1987 Says:

Fixing the problem is getting rid of Lovie Smith tomorrow.

  87. WantstaStayaBuc Says:

Awful never felt so good. Hey Noles, you’ll need to make excuses for his on-the-field stuff now too. Have fun.

Mariota doesn’t seem so boring now does he? Was he not enough of a leader for you? He seemed pretty well in control to me. In fact, as he sat on the sideline in the third quarter he was very composed.

He got rid of the ball quickly and confidently. What did you think of Winston’s passing? A good quarterback knows to get rid of the ball quickly if the line can’t hold.

You said for people like me to cheer for another team if we disagreed with taking Winston with the pick; All I need to say is “Thanks!” You wished for this. You demanded it. Poor character, who cares? Poor decisions, hey he’s a gunslinger! Interceptions, heck it was his recievers that did that!

Joes and your fans, you deserve this.

  88. Scott Says:

Joe it’s pretty obvious Lovies tampa 2 isn’t working at all. When a QB can take a 3 step drop and hit a little 5 yard seam pass everytime. There’s no pressure with this defensive scheme because we lack the talent at DE. It’s embarrassing to watch.
Too the people saying we should of taken Mariota are clueless. He’s not that great, our defense is just that bad. Scheme and talent are way below par except McCoy and David

  89. StPeteBucsFan Says:

This is going to be a LONG season if we keep filling the board with fire Lovie posts after every game. It doesn’t really matter if he deserves it or not.
He’s NOT going to get fired till the end of the season barring some uprising in the locker room. Even Schiano didn’t get fired until after the season even though it was clear he had lost his locker room long before the final game.

I’m not saying today’s game doesn’t make all of us want to fire Lovie. Simply stating it’s not going to happen!!!

  90. Buc1987 Says:

Mariota looked great against Lovie’s garbage defense. Lot’s of QB’s will this season. I could look good against Lovie’s D. Let’s continue to see how the season goes for both of them before we start running our mouths about which one is better after one game.

  91. Buc1987 Says:

StPeteBucsFan …the Fire Schiano billboards got put up I think around week 4 or so. They were 0-4 at the time. Then again Schiano was never blown out at home so much before.

  92. This Guy Right Here Says:

I waited 10 long ass months, a lotta people came and went in the past 10 months… but I survived… to make it to another NFL season… And for THIS???

Glazer Brothers need to apologize to Gruden… Re-Hire him… Fire Lovie… And fck, Fire Warhop while their at cause Lovie was too Pu$$y to do it himself. Lovies such a btch.

  93. Stevek Says:

This team is softer than toilet paper.

At least Greg Schiano gave us good (close) football games. Since Lovie took over, I am able to stop watching the Bucs game midway through the first quarter.

    PATHETIC

    WHERE YOU AT ONELOVE???!??!!!!

    1-15, 0-6, #1 overall pick.

We are the worst team in the NFL.

  94. T REX Says:

1987: It was part of the reason. Winston isn’t ready to start. That is obvious.

  95. Buc1987 Says:

T REX…but he’s going to stay in there.

  96. WyomingBucsFan Says:

I’m glad some of you see like I do the need to bring back Gruden. The sad part is why would he even want to come back after what the fans and ownership did to him. It’s a dream but could you see Chucky stepping in after one game lol. Hell!, why not? If you add up OTA’s and camp it’s only like 4 or 5 weeks. Shock the world Glazers and bring back the greatest coach we ever had.

  97. Buc1987 Says:

Stevek….OneLove is too busy playing with Lovie Smith’s “wang”.

Lovie Smith AKA “Worst defense in Buccaneers History”

  98. This Guy Right Here Says:

I repeat, Lovies a little B!tch… His players know it, and now I finally get it…

He’s a soft azz, charmin-to-the-touch, little b!tch of a head coach. Cant stop a PAC 12 rookie, with NFL vets… Im done, just……. Fck You Lovie.. Thats All…

  99. tmaxcon Says:

    Buc1987

    nice wang reference… LOL….

  100. PhillyBuc Says:

MM gets 4 TDs, wonder what a pissed off Drew Breese will do to this D next week? Every time I see the shots of Lovie on the sidelines with that glazed over look on his face I want to smack him and tell him to “wake up!” Glazers please hire a Pres, fire the entire “coaching” staff and spend your time playing with Man U

  101. jeff Says:

Jamis isn’t ready to be a starting qb I said this before th draft Marcus was the only choice joe and all you guys will have to live with his now and it will get worse before it gets better Jamis Americas qb is fighting just to not trip over his own feet was embarrassing this will set the bucs back 10 years

  102. SailorJerry Says:

The Bucs have nice cheerleaders and catch phrases. They even have helpful staff in the stadium. But it’s like going to a restaurant with good service and crappy food. 30-71 in the last 101 games…no home wins since 2013.

CHECK PLEASE. I’m out and not coming back until under new ownership with a new Exec Chef.

    GO LIGHTNING!!!

  103. cmo Says:

At least “High Pockets” the old man Glazer was a businessman… the boys? Not so much. Let’s abort them, one at a time, til we get something better. As for Lovie… back to the basement!

  104. Oahubuc Says:

Breaking news: Lovie Smith is incompetent, and so are the Glazer kids.

  105. mike10 Says:

How about Licht… I’m not giving him the pass

  106. Cobraboy Says:

    What a crap effort.

I hope to God the Joe’s just stop with the “America’s Quarterback” baloney. It should embarass you guys to continue that charade.

I’m calling him JaMarcus Winston until he shows something different. He’s as terrible as any QB I’ve ever seen play.

And JaMarcus Winston has THER WORSE FEET OF ANY QB I HAVE EVER SEEN.

AndMike Glennon, far more polished than JaMarcus Winston may ever be, is just waiting for his ticket out of Tampa. I actually feel sorry for the guy.

And Gerald McCoy? What a worthless expensive invisible man. Did he even suit up?

Just terrible, team, plan and coaching. Terrible.

  107. Cobraboy Says:

This may be one of the softest teams to ever wear an NFL uniforrm.

That said, I did think Marpet played a decent game. Serveral times he just blasted his man.

  108. Big Irish Says:

#1 In the modern NFL you have to run a 3-4 defense. The Tampa 2 is dead.

#2 JW needs to work out of the shotgun until he catches up to the speed of the game.

  109. CAN'T FIX IT Says:

I THROW MY HANDS UP, THIS TEAM HAS NO HEART OR KILLER INSTINT…….
IS THE DRAFT NEXT WEEK !!! LOL

  110. hapAl Says:

JOE we saw this same type of game last year … the ATL falcons game …and the ravens game …. what ???? you are surprised? today was gut wrenching and embarrassing …season is over

  111. WeSuck Says:

    We weren’t Tennessee Volunteer ready….

  112. BigTorsk Says:

“Umm…. There’s no such thing as Tennessee Bourbon. Bourbon is only bourbon if it’s made in Kentucky.”

Actually Bucs Fan Living In Kentucky, that’s not true. Bourbon can be made in any state, it’s just that 95% is made in KY because of the Limestone filtered water which is ideal. The only requirements for Bourbon are:

    1. Must be made in USA
    2. Must be aged in new charred oak barrels
    3. Must be at least 51% corn

Jack Daniels isn’t bourbon because it goes through a charcoal filtering process before bottled. I also lived in KY, you should know that bourbon only being made in KY is a myth.
