“I’m Not Used To Losing No Home Opener”

September 16th, 2015
Jameis915

Jameis Winston was a quote machine this afternoon.

The Tennessee Titans aren’t the University of Pittsburgh and Oklahoma State, the last two opening day opponents of Florida State University.

Jameis Winston, America’s Quarterback, won those games leading the Seminoles. So, as Jameis said at One Buc Palace, “I’m not used to losing no home opener.”

Jameis was peppered with various question this afternoon, and he did a great job fielding about 7 1/2 minutes of chatter about the worst game experience of his career.

Young Jameis had a lot of fun one liners that flow off his lips in a way quite rare for a 21-year-old.

Here are the highlights:

“The sun did rise again the next day.”

“I don’t like failure.”

“I didn’t give up, you know. So I’m still here.”

“My main goal is to make it to the next day.”

“If I had a great game, you know, people would be ready for to have my, ‘How’s he going to handle a bad game when it comes?’ I got it out of the way. It’s no laughing matter.”

“One thing about boxing, you know sometimes you might lose a round, but you get back in that ring, man. You keep fighting until you knock one out.”

“We don’t play against the noise.” (on heading to the raucous SuperDome on Sunday)

    Love his confidence.

I’m interested to see how some of the JBF commentors spin this one.

  2. StPeteBucsFan Says:

“One thing about boxing, you know sometimes you might lose a round, “

Another thing about boxing…sometimes you get knocked out!!

If he wants to use that metaphor I can play along. Sunday’s game looked like a Ronda Rousey UFC title match. A 34 second knockout. This game was over after JW’s first throw….the opening touchdown deflated everybody and then to come right back with a pick six..we never caught our breath. We were knocked out!

  3. Ray Rice Says:

FUKET Jameis. DON’T be like Lovie. If you’re going to go down. Go down swinging.

  4. Bucco Brice Says:

NOTHING NEW, SIBERIA’S QB KNOWS INTS…”simple as that”..

  5. Tom Edrington Says:

Those are the things he said, here’s what he was thinking:

“I’m not used to playing with a bunch of assholes in front of me who can’t block!!”

  6. iamabuc Says:

Exactly, that was just one fight, he’ll get up, dust himself off, and will be ready for the next one. You Go Jameis, we’re right behind you, we just don’t trust Lovie.

  8. Buc1987 Says:

Tom….or he’s really thinking. “Now I know why they went 2-14 last season, this team has no fire.”

  9. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    Tom E.

Excuses! Four sacks…Russell Wilson a very mobile QB sacked times.

Two of Fameis sacks were on him…he can’t hang onto the ball and when you fumble and then fall on it is that really the OL’s fault.

Honestly I did not watch Donavan Smith much…but I did watch Ali Marpet.
He had a far, far better rookie start than #3.

  10. Howard Cosell Says:

I like Winston and I think he’s an upgrade over Glennon and Freeman
and (of course) McClown, but he’s allowed himself to be sucked in by
the Glazer train-wreck known as the Bucs.
Absolutely amazing how few commenters hold the soccer brats
responsible. It just goes to show how many of these commenters
are media employees or just plain old sock puppets or even
    Team Glazer shills.

  11. Delson Says:

    “Not.. no…”

    He went to college?

  12. mike Says:

Man, how bad was his 1st pick? Just looking in one direction with a very slow wind up. Boom, an easy pick 6. Looks like year 1 of Dilfer.

  13. passthebuc Says:

Joe will be posting his new contest rules soon:

1st prize is dinner with Joe to discuss the term “Americas Quarterback”

2nd prize is Buc’s tickets to the next home game.

3rd prize is Buc’s season tickets.

  14. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    @Delson

    “Not.. no…”

    He went to college?

Yeah I hate double negatives but I think it’s more of a reflection on today’s youth and colleges than Fameis.

True story. When I worked in the Tri Cities we had an intern who had just graduated from East Tennesse State U. with a degree in Broadcast communications.

He was an intern hoping to eventually get an “on air” job. While he didn’t make all of these grammatical mistakes in one sentence as I”m about to use for illustration…he did make every one of them through a course of normal conversation. “He don’t know no better than to look out them windows”

True freaking story. I felt ETSU should have been sued for malpractice giving a kid a degree and the hope he could be on TV without telling him first he had to master the English language. Then again recently we had a VP candidate who simply mangles syntax and is unintelligible at times.

So I give Fameis a pass on the double negatives.

  15. BrianBucs Says:

Jameis, welcome to Tampa Bay. You are not in Tallahhassee anymore. No more opening day puds to play. In the NFL, you now play for the pud

  16. BrianBucs Says:

    @ Joe

Hard to be America’s Quarterback when you are getting heavily and loudly booed by your own fans at home

The real America’s Quarterback is Marcus Mariota, the man who just slaughtered Winston’s Bucs, just like he did his Noles, was today named AFC Offensive Player Of The Week and is on the cover of Sports Illistrated.

Oh, and his jersey is the NFL’s top seller again

  17. Destinjohnny Says:

I do like a lot about this kid. But we drafted the wrong guy.

  18. Hawaiian Buc Says:

The biggest problem we have on this team is we don’t have enough fight. I know I’m probably the 100th person that has said that, but it really is that big of a deal. I watched the Dallas game the other night, then saw the clip of Dez Bryant (broken foot and all) screaming like a maniac congratulating his teammates. Although I’m far from a Dez fan, that’s what we need. Say what you want about Bryan, but that guy cares. His passion for winning is undeniable. Do we have anyone on this team that cares even close to that much? I purposely stand out where the players exit after the games to watch their demeanor. We’ve got some guys that look like sad puppy dogs, and then others that you can’t tell if we won or lost. I want to see someone with a scary look in their eyes that tells everyone that this wasn’t acceptable. I want to see anger and frustration. I don’t see that from anyone. I can’t imagine seeing Sapp’s face had he just lost a game 42-14 to a rookie on his field. We need some crazy, passionate, mean S.O.B.’s on this team, and I don’t think we have any. We don’t even have any coaches that are mean S.O.B.’s. Until someone lets it be known this isn’t ok, how can you not expect it to keep happening?

  19. 911bucs Says:

    @bucco
Why do you end every post with “simple as that”? It’s very annoying

  20. Simpleasthat Says:

    this isnt FL STATE

  21. Bucco Brice Says:

    @911bucs…
Mr. Lovie Smith’s answer for everything…he’s very annoying AND A HAS BEEN COACH…”simple as that”…

  22. BrianBucs Says:

    Hawaiian

Exactly. I’ve thought for a while that this team has needed some meaness. Not only in play, but also in attitude

  23. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    @Hawaiian

I agree 100% with your take. As a Lightning fan you can see just how peoed the Bolts are after a loss even if they’ve played their guts out. They HATE losing.

Cyndi Lauper had that big hit in the 80’s…Money Changes Everything.

I don’t know what you do for a living Hawaiian or how much you love it…I used to love my broadcasting career…one year I worked from Jan 1 to St. Patty’s day without a day off…but if someone had come in and just signed me to a ten million dollar guaranteed deal I’m not sure my “enthusiasm” wouldn’t have been challenged.

The amounts of money these guys are getting paid is truly incomprehensible to most of we mere working stiffs. If you knew you NEVER had to work another day in your life, if your were distracted by all that money can buy…
another music note..Money for nothing and your chicks for free…wouldn’t it be hard to keep up the fire?

Not defending them…I’m with you…just trying to undertand it. Yeah Lovie sucks and it was his responsibility to motivate them. But you make a good point. ALL of these players need to look in the mirror and do a sack check!!

  24. MTM Says:

“I’m not used to losing homecoming games”. Where are all the “experts” who said Jameis was the one that would be better on day one and Mariotta would be a “project”. The Project just torched the NFL’s #1 rated QB draft pick. Where the hell is Mariucci and his chalk board. The game tape says it all. Winston’s shoe strings look like there tied together when he drops back. Buc fans have been fleeced again.

  25. Bucco Brice Says:

    @MTM…
the brunt of my unequalled anger…”Buc fans have been fleeced again”…:(

  26. Buc1987 Says:

    Welcome to Tampa Bay Jameis.

  27. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

    Just wait on it.

  28. Buc1987 Says:

Hawaiian Buc…well I posted my solution to all this yesterday in here. After the Bucs lose to the Jags and go 0-5. I’ll be at that game. So I’m going to gather as many fans as I can to stand by the tunnel after the game and lean over the wall and give them all double middle fingers.

We need to holler as loud as we can and make a ruckus for them to look up. When they look up, they will see about 30 middle fingers up in the air at them. That might put some fight in them. Seeing how they won’t listen to Lovely Smith.

DOUBLE MIDDLE FINGERS. It might actually work.

  29. OAR Says:

    Nole
“Just wait on it.”…………been doing that for 6 years now!!!
BTW where’s that “NFL ready” “football smart” QB we drafted? I guess we’ll be waiting another season…were on the clock.

  30. Bigbern Says:

If the Bucs had drafted Mariotta #1 the result would have been identical. Jameis and Marcus are about equal. The difference is the Bucs are the worst coached team in all of football and the Titans are an NFL team.

  31. Falcons' Fan Says:

I was excited to watch my team win on Monday. Maybe one day Buc’s fans can enjoy the smell of victory but it likely won’t happen until next year. Have a great lyfe

  32. Couch Fan Says:

Amazing how many of you want to fault a rookie for playing like a rookie. The stupidity is astounding. Yes Jameis made some mistakes, all rookies do. Mariota was nowhere near as good as his stats indicate, unless you think every QB we’ve played for the last 17 games is an outstanding QB to…. or maybe is it that our Defense is just god awful?

Proclaiming we got the wrong guy after 1 game is completely ignorant.

  33. Joe Cool Says:

^^^^^^^^ SMART GUY RIGHT HERE EVERYONE NEEDS TO LISTEN^^^^^^

  34. CC Says:

For all you Winston haters. If you put your boy Mariota in a Bucs uniform last Sunday, you would have see the same result.

  35. OAR Says:

………and proclaiming we got the right guy after one horrible game is completely arrogant.

  36. Couch Fan Says:

Right, having faith that the guy we actually drafted, is the right guy is arrogant I guess to a Mariota fan whos looking to justify his ignorant opinion.

  37. OAR Says:

    CC
I’m not a hater (didn’t want either) but you are crazy, if you think Mariota would have thrown those INTs or would have been tripping over his own feet.

  38. Danati74 Says:

I don’t think we drafted the wrong guy. Sure Mariota looked like the better of the two the other day, but the regime did their research. How could the spend countless hours, days, months and money making the wrong decision. You have the QB coach, OC, HC, GM, and signing off Glazers….and you still make the wrong pick. Marietta was pressured maybe 15% of the time and Jameis pressured 85% of the time. Who knows if the QB’s were swapped it may or may not be the same outcome. I think they have a better team coming off of the 2-14 season. I think they have a better OL, and probably better DL. We sucked balls the other day. Love should go to his basement and start a club with Raheem Morris, Sh!tano, and himself and start a club. The guys that suck period.

  39. OAR Says:

    couch
You can keep that empty faith and I’ll stay fulfillingly ignorant.

  40. CC Says:

Oar…so you are saying Mariota will not throw any int’s. And he would have won that game for the Bucs. No sir you are the crazy one.

  41. Couch Fan Says:

Seems to be what your good at so might as well. Btw your attempt to spin this as if you arent a fan of one or the other is rather ridiculous considering your doing everything you can to discourage having faith in a particular person after 1 single game.

I never said that we got the right guy, only that its silly to think we drafted the wrong guy after 1 game but yet you accused just that. Did I say Mariota would of make those INTs? Nope didnt say that either. Infact I did say Winston made rookie mistakes, but if you really think Mariota would of won that game as a Buc… well thats just laughable. Our Defense let Mariota make a ton of 5 yard throws the other defense not so much.

And you have no idea what Mariota would of done in that game as a Buc considering he would of been pressured and forced to make a ton more throws that would of been much harder to complete. But hey, lets not let facts interfere with your opinion cuz your not a hater right?

  42. Buccfan37 Says:

Giving the players and coaching the middle finger won’t work. Thumbs down works better. On Jameis, the Bucs made the wrong pick it appears, though it may be too early to say. He will have to execute much better to convince me otherwise. The rest of the team deserves equal criticism as others have expressed. Winston will struggle without high quality players around him, though I expect him to become an average NFL QB given time. I’m sure I would adjust my opinion if the team beats NO and Jameis leads the way. Losses like game 1 bring disgust and slander, like the comments have reflected. I’ve done the same. It is well deserved.

  43. OAR Says:

    cc
I never said Mariota would have won the game for us or won’t throw any INTs. I guess the words “those INTs” have a different meaning to you.
Not anywhere in any of my posts did I say Mariota would have won for us. Love how you guys put your own words in peoples posts.

  44. OAR Says:

    couch
My first post was actually me playing on your post. I guess my two posts are doing everything to discourage anybody’s faith?! HA!
And, yes I do prefer one over the other, but I did say/post before the draft I didn’t want either one.
Again show me where I said Mariota would have won. I just think he would not have played as bad as Winston did , if he was on our team.
So my opinion makes me a hater? Too funny!

  45. Couch Fan Says:

And you have no idea what Mariota would of done in that game as a Buc considering he would of been pressured and forced to make a ton more throws that would of been much harder to complete. But hey, lets not let facts interfere with your opinion cuz your not a hater right?
    —————————

^My previous post but continue trying to add the spin

  46. OAR Says:

    couch
Whatever dude. I’m not spinning anything. As a matter of a fact, I didn’t ever question you about if Mariota this or Winston that, in any of my posts. Too F’n funny!!
Sounds like you are looking for an arguing buddy…..so I’m done here.

  47. FLBoyInDallas Says:

A boxing metaphor used by a QB with no footwork. How ironic.
