“I Like What I Saw In That Secondary”

September 19th, 2015

rob ryanJoe watched the Saints’ opening-day, 31-19 loss to the Cardinals in Arizona, and the game was closer than the final score.

Heck, New Orleans had the ball and was driving for the winning score with less than three minutes to play.

But their three-and-out, followed by a late, flukey touchdown sealed the win for the Cards.

The Saints moved the ball through the game, and their defense was at OK. Drew Brees just couldn’t get the ball in the end zone.

In the video below, wiseguy Saints beat writer Larry Holder does a good job breaking down the state of the Saints entering Sunday’s game with Tampa. Like Joe, Holder saw a Saints secondary in Arizona that didn’t look too bad, despite all the public criticism and scrutiny. They’ve got plenty of injuries among their D-backs.

Enjoy the video. It’s interesting to hear the New Orleans’ side. Sunday is the ultimate must-win Sean Payton and friends.

Holder picks a 31-16 Saints victory.

I would consider it a win for Bucs fans if Winston balls out even if we don’t win the game. I have zero expectation that Incompetent Lovie Smith’s squad of least resistance will even put up a fight against Brees.

  2. tdtb2015 Says:

A new beginning for the Saints.

I think the Saints know this is like a pre-season game for them which they will win easily. The Saints know there is no better team to face at home to get things rolling. After Sunday, their real season starts.

    Saints 45
    Bucs still scratching their heads…

  3. Buccfan37 Says:

How about nothing is acceptable but a win in NO. Anything else is just another loss. Close don’t mean squat. There is no time like tomorrow to make it happen. Go Bucs! Put this vehicle in forward NOW, no more jalopy play.

  4. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    @Dallas

Agree. I don’t even need to see Fameis “ball out”, I just need to see some flashes and promise for the future to give us hope.

    @tdtb

I think the Saints know this is like a pre-season game for them which they will win easily.

Boy I HOPE that’s what they’re thinking. That’s is a recipe for defeat in the NFL. Teams are just too evenly matched. That’s how MG8 almost upset Seattle in their own house…and how he beat Pittsburgh last year.

That’s one of the reasons I give us at least a chance…N.O. taking us too lightly.

  5. tdtb2015 Says:

I predict the noise in the Superdome will make David and the defense depress and unwilling to play until it stops. Lovie will have to give them pacifiers at halftime to ease their agony.

Meanwhile the check is already cashed. Cha-Ching!!!!

I can tell you 50 million reasons why that should not be happening…

  6. FLBoyInDallas Says:

Days ago I said 31-17 Saints so obviously I agree with Holder. I’m not a pessimist, it’s just that I think Lovie is losing these players already. When that happened with Raheem they hit a 10-game losing streak. Each loss elicited a weaker and weaker response from the team until they reached a point of total capitulation. Unfortunately I see that happening sometime this season unless Lovie Smith is fired.

These defenders don’t believe in his system because it’s too passive. It allows teams to march down the field without much resistance. Defenders’ aggression and competitiveness are blunted because they are held back. Instead of attacking the opponent, Lovie has his guys sit back and play in a frustratingly passive way. It’s a worthless concept. This isn’t f’ing Aikido, this is football dammit. Let the defenders attack and play aggressively and we’ll see them come to life.

  7. tdtb2015 Says:

@spbf – Oh Buddy, I used to be on your shoes. Unfortunately, if months of preparation didn’t help to defeat the Titans I don’t see it happening the rest of the season.

I’ll be watching and pulling for them. But after last week, I must be convinced to otherwise see things like I used to and you still do.

    I LOST TRUST IN Lovie!!!

  8. tdtb2015 Says:

    Go Bucs!!!

  9. Bucs Fan #7423 Says:

i’m already waiting for next season to start, this season is over

  10. Stevek Says:

    Saints 52 Bucs 23

Lovie’s D is taken to the wood shed, again.

Lovie is fired before he gets to the podium for his post game presser.

Schiano is superior to this crap.

  11. tdtb2015 Says:

@SPBF – I have no faith in them executing their assignments nor the coaches having the right plan for the game.

I am at a point of having to see proof. I’m glad I no longer have season passes.

Don’t get me wrong when I sit and watch the game every cell in my body is wanting them to win. Is like watching an addict. You have to watch them hit rock bottom to see change. The Bucs are no different right now. The reason it feels that way for me is the display shown to us in the last game – unaware of how to win. An addict is in total disconnect with reality (unaware of HIS positive ways).

I do vent but support them 100%

  12. Cnorys4 Says:

So many questionable “fans” on this site. Amazing how people can write off this team so soon. Last season was last season, it’s over, move on. Last week was a pathetic display of offense, but it’s a new week. Give these guys a chance lol. So many whiny, fakes it makes me sicker than last weeks Bucs performance. Stop complaining and support the team! Go Bucs!

  13. Cnorys4 Says:

Pathetic display of offense and defense*

  14. DefenseRules Says:

@tdtb2015 … “I’m glad I no longer have season passes.” followed by “I do vent but support them 100%.”

Some Bucs fans might see a little contradiction between those two statements. You don’t need season passes to support them 100%, and you can certainly ‘vent’ and still support them 100%. But being ‘glad’ that you no longer have season passes kinda indicates you’re not really 100% behind them. Maybe 90%. Or maybe 80%.

Of course, I left the stadium after 3 quarters. Flat couldn’t take it anymore. Guess I’m only 75% behind them at this point.

  15. Lakeland Buc Says:

We will win the NFC South this season, a lot of people will be shock. You will see a different Buc team on the field this Sunday.

  16. Bucco brice Says:

RUN, NO TURNOVERS, AND THERE IS A CHANCE….”simple as that”…

  17. DallasBuc Says:

Lakeland- I for one hope you are right. I also have no reason to believe that Lovie Smith is competent enough to prepare this football team for a single victory all season. Zero reason to believe.

  18. CAN'T FIX IT Says:

Look for the Buc’s to be steam rolled Sunday in a big way , Do you really think they will change, If Lovie had all this off season to prepare them for tenn. and got stomp, what makes you think Lovie will have them ready in one Week……. GET REAL…LOVIE FIRED BEFORE THE YEAR IS UP !!!!!!!

  19. tdtb2015 Says:

@defense Rules- Emotionally 100% Moneywise at the moment, I don’t have a dime to give. But if I did, they would get zero.

I get your point though. I guess is a reflection of a Bucs fan. CONFUSION. lol

  20. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Just for the record….I do not question anybody’s “fan” credentials on this site.

If you love the Bucs enough to come to a blog to chat about them you are a fan!

  21. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Unless of course you identify yourself as Atlanta Falcon fan!!!

  22. tb Says:

I love my bucs but man it does get hard to deal with the loosing.

  23. DoNUTS Says:

I wont be surprised if the BUCS sneak a win right here….Brindza to win it…
I think Winston will play better. He will look better on the carpet in dome. Trying to stay positive…

    BUCS 27 AINTS 24

  24. J Says:

If Winston “balls out” it will be the ball slipping out of his hands.

  25. The original "Kevin" Says:

Winston koetter and the rest of the offense should just tell lovie to shut up and figure out how to gix his side of the ball first.

Man I have to admit….I was wrong about Lovie…thought he changed. He hasnt learned a thing. Simple as that

  26. DallasBuc Says:

J- the only balls slipping through your hands are the same ones spitting down your throat while Winston “balls out” tomorrow…or eventually.
    Go Bucs!!!

  27. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Says:

Sure, I hope we win, but as long as we don’t get absolutely blown out like we did last week, I will be OK.
I am not sure we can survive another blowout, especially to a division rival.

  28. drdneast Says:

DallasBuc, is that really you with the pro Bucs gusto.
I never predict wins or losses in the NFL, but if I was a betting man, I’d take those 11 points and run.

  29. DallasBuc Says:

drdneast- I am unreasonably and always pro Bucs. It doesn’t mean I have to be pro- Incompetent Lovie Smith, Trash McCown, HC hiring a effin GM or any other unKosher bullshiit that this organization asked me to take after so many seasons of failure and pain.
The writing has been on the wall for so long. As fans we do not and cannot expect to pay for winning football. However, it is completely within our right to expect competetive football by professionals that know how to field a competetive product. Enough is enough. I am sick of this shiit and you should be to.

  30. bucsbedabest Says:

On the defensive side the Buccaneers need to have a game plan to stop Brees and the short pass routes to the middle and right. Cover the RB on the screens. Control the penalties and create turnovers. For the offense have an offense that is not predictable. Throw in some trick plays Koetter. OL must block and run the ball. Mike Evans is back and look for him ASJ and Jackson all to have big games. Winston shines and Bucs win. Go Bucs!
