How Times Have Changed

A win today over Houston would be vindication for Gerald McCoy and his Bucs teammates.

A win today over Houston would be vindication for Gerald McCoy and his Bucs teammates.

Joe remembers a time not that long ago when the Bucs were so good, playoffs weren’t a hope. They were demanded.

In fact, the Bucs were so dominant, not reaching an NFC Championship game was considered a failed season.

Now? Boy, oh boy. Joe will let the words from Andrew Astleford of BSPN.com show how times have sunk to levels Joe never dreamed.

5. A 2-1 record might not be a reason to drop confetti, but winning Sunday would provide the Bucs with a psychological boost. It’s hard to believe, but Tampa Bay last held a winning record within a season when it was 6-5 before playing the Broncos in Week 13 of the 2012 campaign. The Bucs were 6-4 that year, only to lose five of their next six games in coach Greg Schiano’s first season. Since, the Bucs have bumbled below the .500 mark, a span of surreal struggle that has seen Schiano and general manager Mark Dominik fired, coach Lovie Smith and general manager Jason Licht hired and a hot-mess 2-14 campaign last year. No one will peg Tampa Bay as a Super Bowl contender if the Bucs win Sunday. But overcoming this mental hurdle would be significant.

Can you imagine? Just getting above .500 is reason to celebrate! The nerve.

Joe understands, as Astleford pointed out, that any sunbeam from a break in the clouds is considered a positive step at One Buc Palace. Joe feels the urgent need for a win, any win.

But that is the depth to which this franchise has plummeted, from a once feared team to one that uncorks champagne bottles with a 2-1 start.

We must perform well today otherwise last week looks like a fluke.

    Consider it done…

  3. Jim Palm Harbor Says:

I recall being at Tampa Stadium celebrating the Buc’s first home victory against the Cardinals. They ended up with two wins for the season. 2-1 is a step in the right direction.

  4. Jerry_G Says:

So what happens if we win in Houston and next week we beat Carolina?yea I know many consider that a long shot but would 3wins in a row make us worthy of playoff talks?would the “experts” take is more serious?what about other teams?

  5. The Buc Realist Says:

    Its a Football Sunday!!!!!!

having said that, there was a reason that the national media said that the Bucs sideline erupted like they just won a playoff game when in reality that they just squeaked by going to overtime with a very bad team!!!!!!

But don’t worry sheep! The team is headed in the right direction! Buc Bonzai said so! you just have to “wait on it” 4-5 years while Lovie collects extremely high draft picks!!!! I mean they will be “due” at some point right!!!

The bar is so low no one can limbo under it!!!!

    Hey, Buc Realist..

    Bucs: 31
    Texans: 13

Buc Realist you are a joke dude. It upsets me to even be wasting my time commenting on your ignorance. Why don’t you jump off the ship if you only plan to bandwagon my boi.
It’s good tho, we’ll all love these boys in harmony again soon. And soon meaning by this year’s end.

  8. Hawaiian Buc Says:

Damn realist, you really need a woman. You spend so much of your life complaining. Doesn’t it get old? Get out of your mom’s basement and hit a club or something. Just a word to the wise – don’t wear your Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle T-shirt.

  9. Buccfan37 Says:

Jim Palm Harbor… I was also at that first Bucs home win against the St. Louis Cardinals in Tampa Stadium. Seems like yesterday, that’s how fast time flies.

  10. Ray Rice Says:

FUK that! A win is a win. No matter against who. And as long as THE MESSIAH keeps balling and the defense keeps humming like it did last week, best believe W’s are going to come. And when those W’s come guess what?….. I’m going to keep celebrating every last one of them! 😜

    LIAR.

I said 1-2 more years. Next year’s defensive draft and a season to develop those draft picks enough to make the defense great again.

Doesn’t mean we won’t win games until then. We just won’t be “great” until then, barring the unexpected.

That’s what being a realist is really like, fruity pebbles.

can’t wait to hear another passionate postgame speech from lovie if we win. based on the intensity after achieving 1-1, i’m not sure how many notches higher he can go. he may have to bring in jon gruden as a postgame speech pinch hitter if we go past 5 wins
