Gameday Tampa Bay

Game Two

Bucs at New Orleans

Kickoff: 1 p.m.

TV: WTVT-TV Channel 13.

Radio: Buccaneers Radio Network (WDAE-AM 620 and WFUS-FM 103.5 in Tampa-St.Petersburg region); SiriusXM Channel 134.

Weather: The game will played in a raucous dome with air conditioning, but for tailgaiters, it is still the middle of summer in the Big Easy. Leading up to the game, temperatures will be in the mid- to high-80s under sunny skies. After the game, temperatures will be in the low-90s. As Joe often says, if there is a better place to tailgate than the French Quarter and in particular Bourbon Street, Joe is not familiar with such a mecca.

Odds: Per FootballLocks.com, Saints -9.5.

Outlook: Just based on last week’s seal-clubbing of a 2-14 team — by a rookie quarterback who stomped the Bucs with his own 2-14 team, — it is easy to conclude that the Bucs defense giving up 60 points facing Drew Brees isn’t an outrageous outcome. However, the Saints aren’t exactly a juggernaut. The Bucs took the Saints to overtime at the Superdome last year. And in the final game of 2014, if the Bucs weren’t so intent on drafting America’s Quarterback, Bucs signal-caller Jameis Winston, the Bucs should have rolled the Saints. Tampa Bay actually led 20-7 at halftime. The Bucs need a win badly. So do the Saints, who were driving for the win with less than three minutes left last Sunday and lost by 12 to a playoff team that got its starting quarterback back. The Saints gave up just over 300 yards passing in Arizona, but its run defense was rather stingy, as they allowed not quite three yards a carry. Doug Martin getting going will be critical. Besides, Jameis has yet to show any degree of success against a 34 defense, which is the what Bad Santa Rob Ryan runs with the Saints. Simply put, Joe has more faith in Sean Payton turning around his team’s fortunes than Lovie Smith.

Nuggets: If Bucs tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins has two or more receiving touchdowns today, then he will join Vincent Jackson and Horace Copeland as the only Bucs to have two or more touchdown catches in consecutive games. … Since the start 2012,, no player has more solo tackles than Lavonte David (322). … Since the beginning of the 2008 season, Jackson is seventh in receiving yards per game at 72.3 yards. …  Alterraun Verner is third among corners with the most tackles at 353 since the start of 2010. … The Saints have a seven-game winning streak over the Bucs, their longest streak over any NFL team. … The Saints also have a 16-9 mark against Tampa Bay in the Superdome. … Drew Brees needs three touchdown passes to become just the fourth quarterback in NFL history to have 400 touchdowns.  … Brees and Marques Colston are No. 5 in NFL history in touchdowns by a passing tandem with 68, including last year against the Bucs in the final game of the season. … Since 2008, no team has more passing yards or passing yards per game than the Saints. … Since 2006, no team has a better percentage of third-down conversions than the Saints (47.2 percent). … Last year, the Saints led the NFL in first downs (395).

That is code for Dave saying he will be going to a sports bar by himself. When the waitress asks if anyone else is coming he will say his friends always run late. He will be crying only in the sports bar bathroom at half time.

If we lose by 14 or so, it IS improvement.

  24. Buccfan37 Says:

You mean pack up the bicycle.

  25. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

On a side note, if this migraine doesn’t ease up, I might not be conscious for half the game.

  26. BrianBucs Says:

Guys, maybe I’m just a homer, but I really feel the Bucs are going to be in it today. Last week showed them a lot of things they need to correct, plus the Saints are really beat up on defense missing key starters. Maybe Bucs can catch Saints at a good time and sneak out of that dome with a win. GO BUCS!!!

  27. Seminole Bill Says:

We’re only 0-1; there are 15 more games to go. We have the first pick in the draft playing for us on offense and the best tackle in football playing on defense. We have 2 outstanding receivers and a tight end who could be all-pro.

Then we have an O-line like swiss cheese. Why, oh why, are we starting two rookies on the O-line? Why, oh why, did the Glazers not go out and buy a first-class left tackle to go with their new QB? Can anyone edxplain?

  28. Dave Says:

sEMINOLE bILL HAS BEEN SMOKING CRACK

  29. Soggy Says:

To all the posters here thanks for the much needed laughs, being right or wrong thanks for the laughs… Funny stuff.. Go Bucs… and Joebucs

  30. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    @Realist

If we lose by 14 or more and never look competitive Clear Channel billboard salesmen will be counting their commission checks early!!!

  31. This Guy Right Here Says:

“You mean pack up the bicycle.”

LMAO… I bet it folds up too, so he can fit it in his mom’s trunk while she drives him out there!

    GO BUCS!!!

CHEERS to my fellow JBFers!!! (not you Dave)

  32. Buc1987 Says:

    I’m typically pro-life.

Then I run into people like Dave.

    Go Bucs!

  33. WyomingBucsFan Says:

I see Lovie with a play calling sheet, he didn’t have that last week did he?

  34. WyomingBucsFan Says:

The offensive line doesn’t play to the whistle!

  35. TheBucsAnthem Says:

This the worst saints team I’ve seen in years

    ….sorry. …..Bucs gets no passes

  36. Espo Says:

    @Dave

The first thing I thought when I stepped outside was what a beautiful beach day it was. Hope you had fun. As for my fat self, the only place I’d rather be than on my couch today was at the DumpDome watching the WhoDats cry.
