Video: Jameis Shows His Command, Control

August 2nd, 2015

JameisthinkHey, when it’s a rookie quarterback in a padless, Day 2 training camp practice, there’s only so much that can be gleaned.

So Joe must look for subtleties.

In this video, you can see the Bucs’ first-team defense against America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, and the first-team offense.

Right guard Garrett Gilkey has a false start but watch Jameis. He is unfazed by Gilkey’s blunder and implores his teammates to set back up immediately and run the damn play.

Jameis routinely practices with this kind of urgency. It’s refreshing and encouraging. Joe also was pleased to see Jameis not force a throw and toss the ball away here.

Enjoy!

Last year at this time for some reason we were optimistic. But the Tedford/Arroyo debacle hadn’t started, Carl Nicks was just calling it a career, and Lovie decided to go with Josh the choker instead of Mike Glennon. I was never an MGMer but I just don’t get that move.

And so for those who say as the Who once sang…”Won’t Get Fooled Again”…I feel ya. But seriously!!! Look at the most important position. Last year we knew what we had. A failed veteran, and a 2nd year player with promise but limited mobility…this year we have a rookie who made the jump from high school to college and won a national title and the Heisman. Lost only one game the next year. How can we not be optimistic this year?

Then you mix in the Koetter/Bajakian influence and again..Marcus Arroyo? How can we not be optmistic. Jack Smith is already better than the ghost.

    10-6 baby!

StPete- I’m right with you there from the Winston optimism standpoint. However, only me and a scant few others saw McCown as the “failed veteran” who brought zero chance for success, much less a championship. I believed back then and still today that Lovie was given a pass on the McCown choice, hence the belabored “do-no-wrong-LovieSmith” moniker that I pushed incessantly up until it was clear to almost all how very wrong incompetent Lovie Smith was bringing that loser in here and passing him off to the fanbase as if he could win football games in this league. It actually worked because Lovie said so. Had Raheem Morris or Schiano tried to pull that sht it would have been a bloodbath of scrutiny. I respect both previous coaches because they were novices that took chances. Lovie Smith lost all respect from this fan the minute he hired Trash McCown to intentionally start football games for my Bucs. Humiliating.

  3. Ian_620WDAE Says:

for as bad as McCown stunk in the regular season, he had a very impressive 3rd preseason game against the Bills which was also Tedford’s last game as OC.

Not saying McCown would have led us to the playoffs but losing Tedford was a huge impact so going into this year with Koetter and Jameis, Im going to be optimistic until proven otherwise.

  4. DallasBuc Says:

Ian-…if that is really you, are you suggesting that one half of a third preseason game (after he pooped the bed on the first two possessions) is a predictive model for what could have been? Not sure if you are trying to save face for McCan’t, Lovie or both but the sht don’t fly. Everything that went wrong last year was because of a Lovie Smith decision.

  5. Buc1987 Says:

StPeteBucsFan …McCown was the tank. That’s what I keep telling everyone. It wasn’t so much that they purposely sabotaged one thing or another, miss-called this play or that play on purpose.

    Starting McCown WAS the tank.

  6. Buc1987 Says:

DallasBuc…and before you jump all over me for suggesting McCown was the tank instead of just a dumb move by Lovie. This is what I mean.

Lovie believed in McCown when he brought him in, I won’t deny that. The tank started when McCown went down and Lovie brought him back into the starting role.

I know what you’re going to say before you say it though. You’re going to say BS Lovie brought him back in because Lovie STILL believed in him. You could be right or I could be right at this point on. I believe the tank for Jameis was on from that point on.

76 Donavan smith looked slow. Would have been a sack fumble in a real game. Watch it again if you think I’m being harsh.

  8. Fsuking Says:

Yea Smith had a tough time picking up on that pass rush, but I’m not worried about that just yet.

  9. Fsuking Says:

But Gilkey in any role above practice squad waterbody as me want to vomit.

  10. Buc1987 Says:

Damn it I forgot to add, if Glennon stayed in the starting role, he would have given it his all for the team. They might have won a few games and they certainly couldn’t have that happen.

You know I don’t know if I’m right or wrong about this. Most likely I’m wrong because typically I don’t believe in conspiracy theories and such.

There is one way of finding out though. This season. If McCown starts for the Browns and sucks it up just the same as he did here, and pretty much his whole career, while our team starts clicking. Then I could have been onto something or it’s just a fluke thing going on. Either way we’ll both be happy as well as everyone else, because we’ll be winning.

I think Collins and Johnson were not Lovie’s fault. In think Collins and Johnson were they’re own damn fault. They got paid and when they saw just how bad our team was playing they gave up.

I won’t deny that our D looked atrocious for most of the season, yet fans keep bringing up that 2nd half of the season defensive number whatever it is. Perhaps the D was getting better and McCown WAS the tank along with Arroyo.

Okay I’m done with my long ass rant and conspiracy theory now. Sorry Joe to take up so much space with such silliness. Sometimes I just can’t help myself.

87- you know I’ve never bit on that tank-for-Jameis fantasy that you originated in the depths of your depression last year and now have a small but ardent cult-like following for it. It’s not that I think it is out of the realm of possibility generally but I honestly do not think Lovie Smith ever thought for a second that Josh McCown was a part of the problem at any point during the season. However, I do think it is clear that after the Saints clearly started tanking in the first half of the last game the Bucs were not about to lose the chance at getting Winston. That second half lay-down was more a reaction to Payton as a division rival knowing what was at stake for us shrewdly tanking. That was the funnest game all season!

  12. Buc1987 Says:

LMAO small but ardent cult-like following. It is funny how I was the first to start talking about it in mid-season. Then you get fans that come in here that we’ve never seen before mentioning the tank. I don;t think I started it. I think some fans just want to believe that Lovie really CAN’T be that bad, so they think he tanked the season. Then again you’ve got fans that think they tanked from start to finish and that’s just silly talk.

After that long drawn out rant I only half believe that I’m right about the tank. My only reason for believing that they tanked more than that last game really comes down to one thing and one thing only. Jameis Winston. Even the soccer brat Glazer boy said it’s a QB driven league now. So I think they were after him a lot earlier than most people think. We’ll see though.

  13. BuccaneEric75 Says:

Licht convinced Lovie to tank, then they ran the idea by the Glazers.

87 the Animosity Amigos ring leader can jump over here if he’s feeling froggy last year was tank job simple and plain. And I’m grateful it happen,my college guy is now pro guy. I could care less about how words the Animosity Amigos leader Dallasbuc places in his post he has his opinion I have mine. 2014 “Tank Job”..
