Lovie Says Jameis Winston Will Play Into Second Quarter Against Vikings

August 7th, 2015

Jameis ThrowThis will not be a traditional 2015 preseason.

The Buccaneers must prepare America’s Quarterback, 21-year-old Jameis Winston, to defeat Hall of Fame genius Dick LeBeau and Marcus Mariota on opening day.

Lovie joined Joe’s good friend Steve Duemig of WDAE-AM 620 yesterday after practice to talk all things Bucs. Duemig asked about August game reps for Jameis, and Lovie didn’t back off the subject.

“For Jameis, He has to see a lot of different things. In an ideal world, he gets to have a two-minute drive before the half,” Lovie said. “Normally, it would be one quarter [of playing time] in the first preseason game. It will be more than that.”

This is great news for Bucs fans who can’t soak up enough of Jameis, as evidenced by the chants of “JAY-miss” long after training camp practices end at One Buc Palace. Executives at WFLA-TV, which will air the preseason opener against the Vikings on Saturday night, Aug. 15, are doing cartwheels.

Also, it’s fantastic for those wise fans who will join together and watch history with Joe. (See below)

  3. The Buc Realist Says:

I would not trust this, after all, Lovie said ” we want competition at every position” In the same interview. And we all know that is a bold face lie!!!!

  4. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Speaking for Pablo

“Join Pablo by chanting with him…..Hamus, Hamus, Hamus!!!”

Animosity Amigos Realist!!! It will never be a competition for a guy that was described as savant by his last head coach. Put it together homie. Jimmy Johnson use to treat the his special players a little different.

  6. DavidbigBucsFan Says:

Wow not surprised about the BucWhiniest crying about competition when there is no one on this team who can compete with Famous Jameis. Why can’t you wrap your frontal lobe around that. Aww did Lovie hurt your feelings by becoming our head coach and he picked Jameis to be our qb? Aww poor little ____ist is so butthurt over Lovie. Well atleast Licht & Koetter don’t look like him. Jump ship man just jump ship!

  7. Pickgrin Says:

Sounds like Lovie wants Jameis to play the whole 1st half of the 1st pre-season game.

Agree that your anti-all-things-Lovie schtick is getting old “Realist”. Get some new material if you want to be taken seriously. That goes for your Amigos tmax and Dallas as well

  8. Buccfan37 Says:

Well at least MG8 will get some of the mop up duty. A chance to impress.

  9. Abdominal Snowman Says:

Competition brings out the best in people, especially competitive athletes. As a football coach I’m sure lovie does WANT competition across every position. Although he didn’t say there IS a definite competition across all positions. I think we can use our common sense and figure out who has a job locked in…well some of us can.

  10. DavidbigBucsFan Says:

Exactly right BF37! Unlike the MG bashers up here I think he is a pretty decent qb. The one play that gives him merit is the 80 yard bomb he launched to TiQuan Underwood 2 years ago. He hung in the pocket even as it collapsing and as he had a lineman barreling down on him he never took his eyes off the prize……..waiting for HighTopFade to get a step on coverage and as soon as he did he launched a beautifully perfect pass right into his hands then got crushed. I hope he gets that chance to show teams he can start for them.

I remember the QB position competition between Luke McCown and Byron Leftwich. All that did is delay the inevitable start of Josh Freeman’s career as a Buc. Obviously things didnt materialize for Freeman, but it doesnt negate the fact that it was a pointless competition that took reps away from Freeman.
Glennon will never be what Winston already is and it’s pointless to put on that charade. Numer one picks don’t sit and learn from third round picks and beyond at any position. Too big of an investment to sit and wait, especially considering what the second contract will look like if your QB pans out. Russel Wilson and soon to be Andrew Luck are prime examples.

BucRealist everybody and I mean everybody knows about your hatred of all things Lovie and the sinister reasons behind it.
Your limited hate game has been exposed.
As for Glennon, although I’d like to keep him here, the Bills, Jets and Texans appear to be desperate for a QB.
If we could get a 2 for him I might say goodbye.

  13. CoolStoryBro Says:

BucRealist you need help man… or maybe a new team. Excited to see some competitive games this year! Lets go TB

  14. Buchead407 Says:

You guys still on the Glennon train are in denile it’s getting sad quit honestly

  15. Bucsfanman Says:

Reps, reps, and more reps. History has shown that you don’t get better by watching from the sidelines. This does not surprise me, after all, we want to win games this year, right?
By the way, Glennon is a very serviceable back-up. Unless someone gets real desperate, expect him behind Jameis.

I also remember MG8 throwing three “would be” first down throws at Cleveland last year behind open receivers on slant routes that would have kept drives alive, but led to punts instead!! And throwing a pick in the end zone in the same game that cost at least three points as we were in chip shot FG range!! Watch the missed chances in games, people!! MG8 does that crap all the time!! They seem like little plays at the time, but they add up to time of possession, defense resting, and team morale going down when it should go up!!

Seth Lobato might be the sleeper QB, I watch him last preseason when he was with the Dolphins. He looked good against the Atlanta Falcons,he made it to the final cuts. Was then placed on the practice squad, he’s a big kid with a cannon. He’s 6’6 230, i’m looking forward to watching him this preseason. I wouldn’t sleep on him.
