“I Have A Great Center”

August 12th, 2015

Evan Diedrich Smith

Joe may not be a fan of Evan (Dietrich) Smith, but that doesn’t mean Joe won’t share love for the Bucs’ starting center.

America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, was interviewed on NFL Network with Mike Mayock last night, and Mayock asked about the challenges of the “blitz” period for a rookie QB.

Jameis talked Xs and Os and added that he gets a lot of help from Smith; “I have a great center.”

You can watch the video here.

Jameis instinctively knows where his bread is buttered — and his ass is protected — as Jason Licht explained on Saturday.

Is that crazy Winston still talking about Cam Irving??!!

  2. Bucco Brice Says:

I’m just praying that the “starting” o-lineman stay healthy. any injuries in this unit and “OH MY F***, we’re done”!!!

  3. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I am reluctantly giving a pass to last year’s Oline…..we had basically no OC…..poor/reckless QB play from McCown……plugged in parts with Mankins plugged in late and not highly motivated….that along with a lack of talent at RG.

This year is totally different….we have a truly professional OC…..a motivated Mankins….two rookies either starting or pushing for starting jobs….an exciting new rookie QB….a whole new attitude and hopefully a different result.

I ask my fellow Buc fans to join me in wishing them the best and letting the past go.

  4. P'cola Buc Says:

Bucs going way out on damage control considering what Evan Smith caused earlier this off season concerning Jameis Winston. I agree with them doing this. The team nor both players don’t need the negative media attention. Both players will notably give accolades to each other throughout the year. For Winston it will be natural, because he is just that kind of guy. It seems to me that Evan was sat down and explained the reality of the situation from management. Still….it’s the right thing to do.

  5. Buccfan37 Says:

I have to let the past go, at least the bad parts, which amounts to most of it. I agree with all the changes that the usual excitement is up another level to the point of expecting notable improvement in the win column. i can smell it in the air that something special is brewing. No that wasn’t the septic tank pumper driving by.

  6. Bucsfanman Says:

^? Damage control? We’re still talking about a quote pulled from the context it was intended? There’s no bad blood there. Smith, like most veterans, merely expressed what everybody knows in that a rookie has to earn respect. Look at Geno Smith. You think he’s earned respect in that locker room. Nobody lets their “respected” starting QB get in that kind of dust-up without intervening.
    Koom-ba-ya!

  7. BucTrooper Says:

Jameis should nickname EDS “Whole Wheat” because he loves to “loaf.”

  8. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I agree….I don’t think there ever was bad blood…..perhaps simply a difference in personality…..not between EDS & Winston but EDS & others…….I think much of this has been ginned up…..makes for good conjecture.

That’s my mind frame but I doubt guys like Realist will be like that. Even if he says he is approaching this year anew; the anger & bias lives within and will likely taint his perspective unless the team flat out dominates every single opponent. I can already seen posts about games we should have lost because of Lovie; or how any accomplishment is tainted for this or that reason.

Every year is a new year in the NFL with a new story to be written. Hanging on the past is a waste of time and depressing if you are a Bucs fan.

  10. DallasBuc Says:

What quality pro bowl center does Winston have to compare him to? Wouldn’t expect Winston to say anything negative about his lousy center because it isn’t a smart or productive thing to do. But make no mistake, the EDS film in 2014 was lousy at best. Thanks incompetent Lovie Smith for overpaying a lousy EDS instead of just keeping a quality, consistent Zuttah. Just doing what you do best…being incompetent!

  11. Bucsfanman Says:

    Preach it Lord Cornelius!!!
It’s a shame that we still see the same tired references on this site to past regimes, seasons, and players. At times I question the legitimacy of some of these poster’s fandom. I’ll admit to it being a little trying at times, but to be so negative all the time is tiresome. After all, last time I checked, the Bucs don’t pay my bills! I can’t afford to be angry at something that has ZERO bearing on my life.

  12. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

Good day Animosity Amigos team leader dallasbuc. Still obsessing over America’s Head coach Lovie Smith I see.

  13. CreamsicleBananaHammock Says:

Joe, really surprised you’ve ignored Mayock’s comment last night that the Bucs think Marpet is an All-Pro in waiting….if he turns out to just be above avg we’ll be vastly improved

Put me in the corner of someone who thought he’d need a redshirt yr, but everything I’ve seen, read and heard about the way he’s playing….he could be your starter in week 1

  14. The Buc Realist Says:

Where is Buc1987??? Is he on vacation or is he already tailgating in the RJS parking lot and cannot get to JBF.com because RJS does not have the wireless hooked up yet???

  15. Capt.Tim Says:

Dallas%uc was part of the Lovie “slapping balls” teami

  16. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @ Lord Cornelius

Thanks for joining me…..I am saddened by fans who constanly hemmohrage negativity….and the Realist is one of them. One can’t help but think their entire outlook on other things is the same.

Sure…especially for Buc fans….it’s disappointing to lose….and lose often…and we have much to be skeptical about…..but we are not sheep….blindly following the shepherd.

Suck it up & Buc it up!!!

  17. Tampabaybucfan Says:

87 is having breast reduction surgery so that he can fit into that XXXL Winston jersey he recieved from Erik….

  18. Idontwannahearitanymore Says:

    The Realist: America’s naysayer!

  19. Lord Cornelius Says:

I just don’t get being that negative before anything has even happened about something that should provide joy for you lol. It’s one thing to temper expectations to avoid disappointment but jesus some people must have really stressful lives over this stuff I guess. Like how can someone like Realist think the way they do AND be excited for the season lol. If I truly felt the way he did I wouldn’t give a sh1t about the regular season because he basically assumes the worst things are going to happen.

I was born in 1987 oddly enough and have always been a huge bucs fan. I have never wasted an off-season being obsessed with the team through some sort of negative pessimistic attitude.

During a lot of the bad years where I thought the team was not being managed well I simply just tuned out a bit. They’ve made a ton of moves over the years that I thought were stupid but I don’t go on message boards wasting my life feeling angry about it while trying to drag others into a pit of negativity.

But we’re all different. I’m technically wasting my life talking positive camp nonsense with strangers. So I can’t really even criticize lol.

  20. celly Says:

Looking forward to seeing improved play along the whole O-line this year.

I am saddened by fans who constanly hemmohrage negativity

Exhibit A as to why i rarely post around here these days.

  21. Love and Warrick Dunn Says:

If people want to be negative, so be it. I just don’t have the energy to be that down on the team, perpetually.

It actually takes work to be that negative all the time, especially when the discussion has nothing to do with Lovie/Licht. I just can’t do it.

After Freeman and Dominik were jettisoned, I have tried to approach it from the positive, or just not say anything.

Joe keeps trying to drag me back in with the Dom posts….. 😛

  22. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Speaking for Pablo

“Pablo agrees with TBBF…..Pablo always seems to agree with TBBF”

  23. Dougy balls Says:

Well the good News is that it seems like the Joe’s got rid of Ray Rice and ws99. Or at least one can only hope

  24. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

Lol at P cola. The joes have a tendency to take harmless quotes and hype them up. The only person saying there was some bad blood there was joe. Most of us knew this and ignored it. Trust the Bucs brass was unaware of any bad blood because there never was. There is a lot of good info on this site but you need to be able to figure when one of the Joes is way off the mark.

  25. Joe Says:

So you talk to Bucs brass? So Koetter’s words mean nothing? So Bruce Carter’s words mean nothing?
